for the most part, I measure my food but I'm not real consistent about it

I need to reacquire this habit as I was more successful when I did, right down to the ounce and the teaspoon.

When I first started with SparkPeople I didn't measure my food & I was sure that I could just eyeball quantities. Was I ever wrong! After a few months of using the Nutrition Tracker & trying to be honest about what I was eating, it became apparent that I needed to measure stuff right down to the tablespoon and ounce.

I bought myself my own measuring utensils and a good quality heart healthy electronic scale and enjoyed a LOT of forward progress in losing weight. Then I quit doing that & most of my progress went out the window so I will be utilizing this strategy going forward.

I try to measure and weigh various foods a lot to start, Then, when I think I have a good grasp on the amounts, I eyeball it. In the beginning, I didn't weigh or measure at all (thought I knew from having cooked for so long--wrong!) Then, I started to measure things and found out that I was way off on many things...

Yes, when at home I sure do since my "eyeball" method wasn't really staying true. I did so as a healthy habit in the beginning of my SP journey but fell by the wayside using my eyeball method and realized I need to utilize my scale, cups, and measuring spoons to keep accurate and not go over or under.

about 80% of the time. If I don't measure, I always "eyeball" it and make a mental note how much is there.

at home, I measure. when I'm eating out, I guess-timate

A women is often measured by the things she cannot control.
She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn't curve, by where she is flat or straight or round.
She is measured by 36-24-36 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside.
And so if a women is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control;
by who she is and who she is trying to become.
Because as every women knows, measurement

I measure some things, but not many. I do estimate and many times I overestimate it. I log in 1 cup of cereal instead of the 3/4 cup I have really eaten, etc. I log my food every day. I try very, very hard to write it down through the day and enter it every night. (I don't have a mobile device/cell phone that allows me to do it thru the day.

When I started the Nutrition Tracker, I measured everything into my bowls and plates. I can now fill them and know that there is 3/4 cup or 3 ounces. It's close enough for me. The shocker was that bowl of breakfast cereal. I had been eating at least twice the recommended serving amounts.

Some things, especially things like salad dressing. And I measured cereal enough to learn what a cup looks like in my cereal bowl. Oh and on the rare occasion I eat chips I count them out (because they can REALLY get away from you.)

Things like nuts I tend to buy in individual packages. They cost a little more but again its a method of portion control.

Very little. When I do, I find I underestimate what I am eating. Less calories than when I measure.
