Both. Hubby has a stickshift pickup that I drive. Rarely, but I drive it. And I drive and Automatic Minivan. With 4 kids, I need my hands as free as possible while driving! :-)

Learned to drive a standard transmission car. Actually it was a 1939 truck that had holes in the floor of the cab, no gas gauge or speedometer and no key. I had to 'hot wire' it to start. I shared the truck with my Brother in Law and learned to never trust him when he would tell me there was plenty of gas in the tank. Of course, I ran out of gas at 2:00 am on my way home from work. I was young and It was a long walk home. Didn't speak to him for days. After that I would always fill it up first and then drive. Lesson learned.

Learned on a stick shift with four speeds plus overdrive, and for reverse the end of the gear shift lever was pulled out and down. Finally my own car now is a four wheel drive truck with an automatic.

I drive an automatic but I learned to drive on a stick shift. Occasionally I drive Hubby's truck just to make sure I remember how to do it.

I have never been able to get the hang of a manual transmission (despite my best efforts). Unfortunate things tend to happen. Although, I would prefer riding horseback, but seeing as that is not adequate in today's society, I will stick to my automatic.

only automatic! First husband said he would not share a stick shift vehicle with me. I am a bit of a nervous driver.

Stick. It's a 6-speed, and I'm not entirely happy with it. 4 was good, 5 okay, but 6 is a bit much.
