diet coke is one of my weaknesses. I tell myself that as soon as I finish this case, I will buy no more. Then I see a great sale. I know....stupid!

Many months ago (before joining SparkPeople) I got tired of water and started to drink just one can of diet soda per day. The so-called common wisdom was that calories in and calories out were all we had to worry about for weight control and there were no calories in my diet drinks. Within a few months I developed a major case of belly fat that would not go away no matter what I did. I joined SparkPeople and quit the one-a-day habit, using plain herbal teas in its place and within 6 weeks the belly fat has greatly diminished, along with a few pounds. I loved the flavor but will never drink another drop of that stuff again. It's only one person's story, but I hope it helps someone else.
I am content with herbal teas where it is cold and cold water with lemon or lime where it is hot. I try to stay away from sugar and any diet drinks as well. They make me miserable so I leave them alone.

I find that anything I eat or drink using Psuedo sugars short circuits my diet just like real sugar does, leaving me hungry. I drink plain water, tea with or without caffeine, and water flavored with lemon or lime or oranges or cucumbers or pineapple or mint leaves, and count all of the above as water. Try different flavors you like in water until you find some flavors to stick with. My dh subsists on no caffeine, non sugar diet soda but his appetite is still out of control, he sneaks food all day and night. I blame the soda. Less chemical is better.

I wish I knew the answer. I have cut way back on diet sodas. Seems hubby can't drink plain water and he will have crystal lite. I do like water. My suggestion, until we get more definitive information, is to drink water with lemon and have the occasional drink with artificial sweetener.

i know that diet sodas aren't good for your diet, i'm not a big soda drinker anyway...but sometimes water can get bland and i need a lil flavor....so my question is are crystal lite add in packets just as bad as the diet sodas considering that they are made with sweet and lows as well???
