Thanks for explaining this and letting us know how much fun this is!
I have to clear something up by saying 'virtual' exercise' has been around for quite sometime...it wasn't my creation.
I know 'virtual' walking and /or running has been around for a few years now...
ingusa.htm is where I first stumbled across the initial idea..
Not being able to walk too steady these days, I simply used the same concept as the 'virtual' walkers were doing and kinda tweaked it from there...using a bike & the Google Maps website to help me map out my route. maps.google.com/
I go by actual miles that I'm riding on my bike, (it's just easier for me to do that)
but you can tweak it any way you want..it's your adventure.
20 mins of exercise = 5 miles
10 mins = 1 mile
1000 steps = 1 mile
You can really tweak it any way you want to...
lastly...you gotta make it fun. Ya gotta think outside of the box, lol....be creative.
I could just bike to NM, fart around in Albuquerque for a day or so and then keep going ...
OR I could bike to Roswell, NM to find the 'mother ship' and have 'virtual' slurpees with my rambling friends..ROFL!
I would much prefer to do that, haha...
Either way you do it, it's a lot of fun..and it really does take the 'boring' out of exercise.
What a great idea. I might steal your idea and use it for a run/walk on the treadmill. I love traveling so it would be motivation.
“Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles…. it empties today of its strength.”
That little green monster with his purple slippers and cup of coffee... he's been with me for a few years now...everywhere I go. Can't remember where I originally snagged him from...(he has been my Facebook profile image for years, lol)
oh yeah...plus I look just like that first thing in the mornings, except my hair is grey, hahahahaha.
In addition to all the inspiration, my favorite thing about your comments in your icon pic........
totally cracks me up!!!!! is best medicine....LOLROG

"If you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Lisa, I visited your blog and you have a wonderful sense of humor. Thanks for the laughs. I love your idea of making your miles count on the stationary bike. Why didn't I think of that?
I think I will pedal to the New Jersey shore. Well, maybe not that far to begin with.
Slow & steady makes a winner of us. Even if we hit pitfalls, get up. Know that a new day is right around the corner.
Try to be all that you can be. Work at it a day at a time.

You are an inspiration....keep up the great work.
One giant leap toward Onederland....
I reached my first 'virtual' destination.. Searchlight, NV this morning.
61 miles and counting...
This is the first stop and/or goal on my journey and it feels great to have accomplished this.
I'm riding 'actual' miles using a recumbent bike and then using the Google Map website, I'm keeping track of where these miles are taking me.....picking and choosing different destinations along the way,
It has been very cool to add 'virtual' pictures to my website..makes it feel more 'real' and I found an old picture of Searchlight from 1910 today so I included that on my slideshow.
From Searchlight, NV..my next destination is Bull Head City, AZ. which is 40.4 miles from Searchlight, NV.
I'm hoping to get there by next weekend
hope your all having a wonderful weekend..
