I bought a kindle and now have a kindle fire - still use both. Bought the first when I was starting to downsize and move. Just no room for all my books. I like the kindle because for downloading books they have their own network. One of my friends just bought a nook and you have to have wifi to download.

I have kindle.....bought when several hundreds $, but loved the large print feature which ment I could read without glasses while on the treadmill......then could easily walk 60 minutes or more after I retired and hurt my knee and could no longer walk in the wilderness'Today I would buy the kindle fire for less than $200

In GOD We Trust Choose To Lose "If you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired." -General George S Patton, U.S.Army, 1912 Olympian

I have a Sony eReader. I got it in 2010 because it was in my price range (i.e. cheap compared to the Kindle which was still several hundred $$ at that time, right before they started dropping the prices).
It works OK for what it is but doesn't have all the bells & whistles - no light for when it is dark, no color, possibly doesn't support magazines (never tried but I doubt it would), etc. I'll keep using it while it works but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're OK with bare bones cheap.

even if you use a library e book it sends you to amazon.
when you use amazon just click on the book to make sure it is still free. it will be highlighted. generally when there is a price it will be shown. my library had a nook and after they showed me how to use it (5 minutes) it was easy. i chose kindle because i know people who have one. if you buy a nook from barnes and nobles i am sure they will help you.
