i have donated most of them except for the ones that are one size up simply because we all have fluctuations. however... I have saved a number of my original starting clothes just so that I NEVER forget what it was like to be so big in the first place. nothing is more satifying than to stand in one leg of your old pants!!

Jeans and dress pants generally are kept as they are too expensive to throw out. Shirts it depends but most of them I continue to wear as I do not mind them a little baggy.

I really like the idea of giving them to a friend who is on the same journey and can use them. Also giving to charities that actually give them to those in need along with the womans working closet and womans shelters.
I recently heard that the charities are also in need of small household and kitchen items, so let's not limit ourselves to clothes only. I for one have things in the kitchen that I never use, like an electric wok that is just taking up valuable space.
You guys gave me some great ideas and encouragement to give to those that need them, plus make room in my own closet and home.
Sounds like a win-win to me !

Give them to charity.
I did make rags out of some of my old t-shirts.

I saved a couple things from when I was at my heaviest as a reminder of where I don't want to go back to.

I've donated most of my too big clothes, but I'm altering a couple of the nicest outfits. I donated some of the good work suits that couldn't be altered to an organization that helps women who have been on welfare re-enter the work force; they really needed plus sizes

Most of them are worn and stained so I have thrown them away one by one to make room for new clothes. As I bring a new item in the house I throw away something old.

Have not yet dealt with all of them. Some have gone to the rag bag. Some of the biggest I handed over to my husband - my sweatpants and larger T-shirts, which I buy from the men''s store, because of the pockets & heavier weight material. It gets COLD here. But I'm hanging on to some, for use gardening and painting, and will eventually donate the better quality and condition ones to our church summer rummage sale, along with my fat girl cookbooks, an overstuffed shelf of books!.

Fortunately I have been able to lose some poundage before I joined SP, so I was actually able to buy some new clothes. (Yay!) But I didn't throw away my old clothes. I know a few people who, like me, struggle with their weight. And since I know what it is like to find clothes for the "plus size" woman and how those clothes usually cost more, I gave my clothes to a co-worker. There are also a few pieces that I kept as a reminder of where I don't want to be again. Hopefully, I'll be giving away more of my clothes in the near futureemoticon

Continue to wear them until they fall off... I work at home. Give them to charity if they are in good shape. I kept one top and bottom from when I started SP almost a year ago to "remind me"emoticon

I have come to the conclusion that keeping larger clothes Just-In-Case is a defeatists' attitude and I am a winner (this is a new attitude for meemoticon) so out with the old Linda and in with a couple pairs of pants and tops that make me feel like a million bucks but only cost a fewemoticonemoticon

If they're in wearable shape I give them to charity. If not, some get torn up and go into the rag bag, others just get trashed. I have only a very small closet so I can't keep anything I can't wear. Most of the time I just go by how things look to tell exactly when I'm ready to get rid of them. Anything literally falling off my body goes; stuff with a little stretch that doesn't look or feel too bad I'm keeping for a while, because I'm still hoping to go down several sizes before I'm altogether finished.

A lot of my "big clothes" were almost new and up to 8 sizes too big for me - so I sent them to a friend in USA. I thought I might keep some "just in case" but was told this is not a good thing to do - but with the cost of good clothes so high I still wonder - and here I can't get "big clothes" in the op shops!!
I still wear some of the intermediate sized clothes, particularly the thicker winter clothes, round the house!!

Since I bloat a lot I keep one size up. Like right now I'm in 14's, but I kept my 16's for bad days and I put the 18's in the attic with all of the other stuff to go in my yard sale next year.

Yes to all but the last of the possible answers in the question: when I save them, it's not for "just in case" reasons: because of my fibromyalgia, I like having some baggy clothes to wear around the house and often buy muumuu's or size-too-large lightweight tops and pants for that reason.... Baggy casuaul clothes are great to wear when cooking messy splattering foods or to wear when doing housework, yardwork....

I spent last year in a warm climate and was two sizes smaller when I left in December than when I'd arrived in January. While packing to leave, I donated all clothes that were too big to a local charity which GIVES the clothes to people who need them. As it was I arrived back in upstate NY on a cold day.... and had NO winter clothes that fit. A wonderful problem!

Smaller clothes I keep in the attic, many different sizes. I can not buy clothes my size here on the equator. I'll get rid of all of them in three years when I retire back in the States.

I put them in bags for Purple Heart, they come by to pick up donations every 6 weeks or so. As soon as I start wondering if my pants are going to fall down, i.e. the waist gets loose & I can almost take them off without unbuttoning...they go in the bag.

I am keeping only 1 pair of slacks from my starting point, a size 16. I intend to use them for my "after" picture once I hit my goal, to measure my journey. Then into the donation bin they go!

I have always saved them in the past, and it was good that I did since I yo-yoed right back up in weight. But this time, I have a friend a few sizes bigger than me who is on the same journey so they will be going to her as soon as she gets down to that size.

I wait until the clothes really shouldn't be worn, when they don't hang right. Pants take longer because I can belt them and frankly because I don't own as many and need to have them for work.

I want to give them away. I have a closet full of clothes that I don't like. I never seem to refresh my wardrobe because I always told myself that I wasn't the right size yet to spend money on. I am going to change that way of thinking. If I give my bigger clothes to charity, I am forced to buy myself things that fit. And, God forbid, if I get bigger again, I can tell myself that I still deserve to look good, so I will buy something new again. I don't spend much money on clothes at all, but once every month or so something new isn't going to kill my budget. It might even make me feel better.

This is something I am just having to consider. I've lost weight before, and then gained it back, so I think I'm going to hang onto the nicer things, give away the stuff I don't like or is too old.

Most of my clothing I have had for years, so I give those to charity. Even if I do gain weight, I really need something new. So having spent money for smaller sizes is a help when temptation strikes.

Most have been donated to charity. I've kept a couple things as just in case items, but I don't want to hang onto too many. I'm motivated to not have to spend money again on larger sizes since I just spent a small fortune on smaller ones!!

I too hang onto my big clothes (just in case). When I do buy a item, I then give one item away to Good Will.

I always kept my bigger clothes because i always regained the weight. But i think this time i'll get rid of them because i'm confident that this is my final time to lose weight!

I'm giving mine away or throwing them out. One or the other! Maybe donate them to Goodwill.

I have kept the expensive dresses etc, just in case.

The rest I donate to charity. Everytime I put something on the either is too big, or doesn't look right anymore I put in a basket. We get phone calls every few months from the Diabetes association and the 'hospital for sick children' to see if we have clothing or household items to donate. They come to my house, I just have to leave the bag on my door step labeld for them.

Do you give them away, recycle them, throw them away or hang onto them (just incase) ?

Also how soon after they become too loose to wear do you do it?

I have usually kept the better things just incase! Wondering now if that is not trusting myself to not go back to the heavier me.....Your thoughts please.
