I'll keep your husband in prayer. Men are just the worst at going to doctors! If he has a strong history of cancer in his family get him started on a good multi mushroom complex it increases you T cells. We read about this when my husbands prostate biopsy came back bad. We decided to wait six months to proceed and he took heavy mushroom, drank Pom each day and gave up sugar for the most part. Six months later and now two years later cancer free. Good luck and keep us posted.

I've been recovering from a miserable cold so eating for convenience rather than health, not tracking anything, not exercising. I'll see what the damages are on Friday but am ready to go back to my normal habits tomorrow.

Even during the holidays I have started having some weight losses again. I've been spending 2 to 3 1/2 hrs doing water aerobics, it seems to work better for me than treadmill and machines.

I go next Monday afternoon for a biopsy of my throat, please say a prayer that I get a good report.
Thank you, Rita

Hi Holly!! Welcome!

I weighed in today after not weighing myself for 14 days. I'm PROUD to say I'm down 1.5 lbs. Not a lot...but I'm a slow loser and proud of it (with help from my thryoid)! :) And I've watched the scale do nothing but go UP for months so seeing actually go down is amazing.
And BTW...I must say today I feel great...I bought a new outfit am rockin' it!
Have a great day!

Way to go on the weightloss. I'm sure I've put weight on since the holidays. I'm hoping I'm getting back on track though. My sugar cravings are gone. In fact, I just had leftover broccoli for breakfast. It just sounded good. I had a cinnamon roll (or 2 to be exact) yesterday and they really did a number on my system. I actually got sick to my stomach from the sweet frosting. Not good at all. Today I will get out and walk and hope that it doesn't put me back in bed again like it did last week.

Hey Everyone,

Here is my update for December:

I have lost 5 pounds so far this month. Today I weighed in at 183 which means I even lost a half pound since Christmas. I have been trying to be consistant with my food journaling. (even brought it with me for Christmas) That day I wasn't as worried with hitting my goal as I was writing all my food down.

Happy New Year's,

I had a good Christmas. Now back at the office wishing I had a couple days to lounge at home and recover. I did pretty well except yesterday I snacked a lot. Other than that, I don't think I went TOO overboard. :)

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Oh, I so know what you mean about the exercise & keeping up with Groups. Life just gets hectic & once you miss the first session, bam! It's like starting over!!! I started Curves with great intentions. I worked hard on the computerized program but got to the point where I started to injure myself. They kept telling me I was doing the moves the correct way but I ended up putting my neck out of whack, then inflamed a shoulder, then I couldn't do any upper body work at all. I got discouraged & stopped going then just never got back there again. I never actually lost much weight but I sure limbered up, lost inches & gained stamina. I'm starting the 1 Mile Walk with Leslie Sansone - there's a group here - to limber up & get started again. I checked it out from the Library for FREE. If I like it, I'll buy it. Apparently she has a half dozen WALKING CDs. I can walk at home for FREE instead of paying $46 a month & driving my car to Curves. Got nothing but fat to lose . . .

My name is Beautynsuhine real name Carrie C. When i started this journey in 2009 I was at my highest of 265 pds. Along the way i joined Jenny Craig and Curves. Both of them offered me a great opportunity to start moving forwards. Just this month I hit a huge milestone in my journey and that was when i weighed in at 187.0 pds.The last 3 months have been a complete struggle for me with wanting to put in the effort to exercise. I am also slacking about doing my food tracker, blogging and chatting with teams i have joined. I have been out of touch and unfocused I really need to get my momentum and motivation going again. Great with food and portion control not so great with keeping up on site and working out. I was doing so well for awhile there and then I am not sure what got into me after Sept

Hi everyone,
I'm just back from a trip to Texas to visit my older son and family. They eat healthy so it was easy to eat well while I was there. Had some fast food while traveling home tho'.

I notice there has been some talk about water. I refuse to buy bottled water for environmental reasons as well as cost but I keep a Brita pitcher in my fridge all the time so I have lots of good tasting cold water available. I enjoy plain water if it tastes good. The Brita pitcher does make it taste better. It takes out the chlorine taste in addition to other things that make it taste bad.

I enjoy various kinds of tea and don't use any sweetener in it. I'm diabetic and don't use artifical sweeteners at all. I use small amounts of honey or sugar if I need to sweeten something. Occasionally I will use some 100% fruit juice to sweeten something. I don't drink straight juice as it is too high in sugar but it is nice to use in ice tea (my husband won't drink unsweetened tea). I gave up soda several months ago and the last time I tasted one, I actually was disappointed in that it really didn't taste that good so am not tempted to drink it anymore.

I'm on blood pressure medication so I have to watch my sodium intake which is why I make my own soups. Even with canned tomatoes & the onion soup mix, it's far lower than condensed soup. I rinse canned fruits, veggies & beans when possible before using to reduce the sodium & use fresh wherever I can. I cook my own beans most of the time - soak over night & micro wave until just about soft. So, it lowers my sodium, saves money & gets in a lot of water!! Easy, peasy!!

WOW! Such support and get suggestions. This place gives me hope for humanity (long story let's just say you guys rock socks!)

The milk in tea suggestion is a good one and I really hadn't thought of soup as a way to get water but I guess you're right there! You do add about 1 cup of water to any condensed soup you eat. Better still if you make homemade (less sodium etc)

Keep these great suggestions coming. I love it.

I'm a tea drinker too. I love ice water in the spring, summer & fall but when its cold outside & I'm not that warm in my basement, I just can't drink cold liquids. I drink a lot of tea. I've learned to put milk in my tea so I get milk because I really don't like to drink milk!! I also make a lot of soup in the winter. Nice way to get more liquid when it's hot. So don't forget to count soup!! Hot lemonade is very nice in the winter!! I put a cinnamon stick in the mug & use Crystal Lite Pink or LemonLime with hot water. Goes down verrrry nicely!!

I'm really bad about my water too. It's just not my 'drink of choice'. And I agree it is harder to drink water water water in the winter. I've had a HORRIBLE cold over the past few days and have been drinking hot tea. I'm not getting 64 oz of water that way by any means, but at least it's helping.
I find I got through 'spurts' when it comes to drinking enough water. Sometimes I'll down it like it's nothing. Then I'll get hooked on crystal light for awhile...then tea...etc. I guess that's a good thing to keep it 'mixed up'.

Welcome NTLOSE35!
I get in most of my water. The good thing about winter is our tap water gets really cold. I've gotten my kids to drink more water too. They chose it over pop as long as I have the bottles of water. Whatever it takes I guess.

One thing I have found about drinking water is that once I start drinking it I need more and more. That makes it easier to drink the quantities that I need. Soon I don't even notice that it is a habit. I really love sparkling water and my doc warned me not to drink club soda or seltzer with phosphates because he said those leach calcium out of the bones. (Doesn't everything seem to do that?) Our tap water comes from a deep well (tested regularly) and is delicious. Not all water tastes the same and it is no wonder some people find their drinking water unpleasant.

Well I could do that but why would I want to?

Such wonderful support being shown here. Kudos to all! As for water, I have more difficulty drinking it during the winter. Since summer around here is really hot, its a lot easier to get my water allotment. I really do feel a difference when I have neglected to drink water, feel sluggish and tire more easily. Lemon does help and I also like mint.

I know lots of people that hate water. By BFF is one of them. She will drink almost anything else but water. Be careful with the Crystal Light - it has aspartame and if you aren't used to drinking it, it can give you diarrhea. Personally, I love the pink grapefruit flavor. Now they are saying that anything that is artificially sweetened is bad for you. So what are diabetics supposed to do? I guess we drink water and learn to like it. I have to put fresh lemon juice in mine to get it down.

I feel you there NTLOSE35! I HATE water too. People in one of my other groups about had a freakout fest on me when I said that but the truth is that I, like many of americans, got to a point where I pretty much NEVER drank water. The city water here is crap and if I'm going to spend $1 a bottle on something it isn't going to be BLEH water, right? Heck, at work that was all we had in the machine most days. Seriously.

Some things that helped me:

+ Crystal Light is good.
+ Tea = Water... and it's good.
+ Coffee too but watch the caffine and sugar
+ Carry the bottle of water all the time. Tell yourself it makes you look sporty and hip. Even if you think you won't drink it, carry it. Amazingly, there will be moments when it's easier to sip the water than get up from what you're doing. Eventually... the water bottle will be empty.

Now here's the trick for the last one. By your fridge... post that visual collage or your goal weight clothing. It may look silly to visitors but they can bite your big toe, this is for your health and whatever reminds you to grab that water instead of something else is good. Grab another water and "just carry it." It's amazing how many days I hit 6-8 cups before I realize it that way.

I also make deals with myself... "If I finish this bottle of water I can have {insert low fat or calorie treat here}"

Thanks for friending me! *hugs*

Thank you so much for the inspiration and the reminder to be more positive. As for water I've slowed down on it. One reason is I hate water....my dad and my grandma were the same way. But I was drinking bottled water with the crystal light packets for awhile and was drinking what I was suposed too. So I should do that again.

ntlose35 - Chin up. The Holidays are a time of belief in the impossible, of faith in miracles and a time to love and support one another. You're here at sparkpeople which means you know where to find love and support... now let's work on that miracle!

How's your water consumption these days? I know when I cut out soda and switched to water I lost quite a bit right away. I also have some other easy to follow tips on one of my recent blogs (link below) that might help you out getting back to where you were or maybe sprinting ahead!

I don't think we're all doomed to gain weight just because it's christmas. Let's refuse to buy into the hype that this season is a pitfall. Maybe if we all believe enough, like in those holiday cartoons, it'll be a real christmas miracle! What do we have to lose other than weight?

"Dear Santa,

Make the haters wrong!

Love,

Dee."

WE CAN DO IT!

I was going to come in here and just post a little something about what's going on in my life today but I saw Gaggs' post and I just wanted to take a moment and give some emoticon HUGS!

Sweetie - no one here started out feeling like a 100% winner. Every day is a choice. Every day you wake up is another clean slate another try another go at being the person you want to be. Believe that!!!

I want you to try something - if you are willing to give something a try which a total stranger has advised... pretend. You remember when you were a kid, those games you might have played on the playground with other children, or with gi joes or whatever you had?

Well, even when you're feeling like a loser, when you're at your least successful ... pretend you're what you want to be. Pretend to be happy. Pretend you're as skinny as you yearn to be. Pretend to be the winner at the end of the race. Walk around with that water bottle in hand like you're already a sporty fun happy person. Do it every day, as you walk around the house and no one can see, in the shopping centers, at friends and family's houses. Keep that bottle of water in your hand and be sassy, be cute, be full of energy even when you feel like it's TOTALLY an act.

You know what... eventually it won't be.
Eventually you'll have walked a 1/2 mile and drank 1 bottle of watter.

Eventually you'll have walked 5k and drank more water than ever before.

Eventually you'll have done a marathon and the water could fill a pool!

And all that water, all that walk, all the fake smiles will come easier and easier and one day maybe you'll not have to try so hard and maybe the footsteps will be faster and faster until it's a jog... and then a run.

Maybe you'll make some other changes too ... after all, you look DAMN SEXY with that water bottle... imagine how cute you'll be eatting that dainty salad rather than something else. There you'll be, semi-fake smile and your salad, feeling a little better than that first day and you'll have ate some veggies too!

And in time your diet will change and you won't have even noticed that you stopped drinking the water to look cute but have been doing it without thinking! And the smiles, they are a LOT more real. And when you come to sparkpeople you won't just be telling folks about the hard times and FORCING yourself to tell that 1 happy thing or 2 encouraging things to others... you'll find more and more to say.

Pretend until it's visable.
Imagine until it's real.
You're here for a reason. Don't give up on the person inside who knows it's possible. That person who wants AND DESERVES everything you want. He's not a loser and because HE is YOU... neither are you.

Friend me on my sparkpage. We'll make the trip together. I could always use another cheerleader, I bet you could too! WE CAN DO IT!

*hugs*

Hi everyone I'm new to the team. I lost for awhile but since Thanksgiving I have gained back most of what I lost to start with. My pants were all getting lose and I was able to put on a pair of dress pants I had not had on in awhile. I went to put them on last night and they cut into my waist all evening. My belly bulge is apparently expanding and my butt may never be the same. BUT i'm working on it. Probably mostly after christmas. Not waiting to new year thats for sure.

I've been gradually increasing my fruit, beans, whole grains & veggies while decreasing meat, cheese, potatoes, pasta & rice. I've traded Wasa, Rye Crisp & whole grain loaf for bread in my diet. Since I don't have a scale, I'm hoping my summer clothes will be a LOT looser when I don them in April!!! I know I feel better but still have to learn to cut down my portions, sigh.

Wow good news and not so good news on this chain today. However the way I see it we are all successful slow losers if we are sticking around here. Maybe we will all be successful losers if we stick it out!

Well I could do that but why would I want to?

Wow. I just had something really interesting happen. It was a good thing. I went to buy some new pants for my husbands office party tomorrow night. I've gained like 15 to 20 lbs since the beginning of the year. I was down to a size 8 or 10 back then...and have been stuffing myself into 10's and a couple 12's since.. When I tried on clothes today, I grabbed 14's expecting that was likely what I should be wearing. They were too big! I was able to put on 10's but they were snug so went with 12's to allow a little room for shrinking. I was just so suprised that I wasn't up to a higher size than that. Good I guess!

i have had some weight set backs. i have been recording my food, but for some reason the ounces have been piling on the last few days. i am a little frustrated. i travel to my mom's and overeat (not by a lot) and don't exercise and my weight stays the same, in fact it goes down a little. but when i exercise extra- do my strenght training and some intense cardio along with watching my calories more carefully, i start to gain a little. WTF? i am a little frustrated so i am trying to work on my mental and emotional health. i also am trying to get extra sleep. i am hiping that helps pust th plateau.

It is freezing here this morning in South Florida!!! Can I count shivering as exercise? My exercise lately has been painting the exterior of the house. I do not recommend this if there is any other possible option, including faking a sprained ankle (Or any other body part that can get you out of this thankless exhausting job!) Haven't been doing much other exercise outside, as it has been really cold and with my asthma, the cold air has my lungs whistling like a canary! Ok, I like cool weather, but the 30's and 40's is rediculous!

GAGGS-small steps. You are not a loser. Are you tracking your food? I know I have to think about what I'm eating otherwise I'll stuff anything in my mouth. I talk to myself all of the time.

I had a great day yesterday. Had a nice walk. Ate much better. Here's to a good day again today.

Hi - well you've done step 1. You've identified where you are going wrong. Now you need to get the motivation together to put it right.

How about writing down the reasons why you want to lose weight? Is it for a special occasion? For health reasons? Or just for you?

You are certainly NOT a loser in the slightest, we all hit this place at one time or another. You just think why? What am I doing this? What is the point.

You are still on the site here, you are still posting, you are asking for help. That's not the signs of a loser.

Keep going.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Erin - that's what we're here for. We'll be here whenever you need somewhere to vent or just to talk about stuff. You are most definitely not alone.

Everyone else. Let's not let the dark night and weather get to us. We can all do this. Just keep at it. One step at a time.

Lou,
I feel like I am in fibro-fog half the time. The cold weather sure does add to the pain too.

Erin,
I have been praying that you would receive good news from the biopsy and am so sad to hear that the news is not good. If there is anything I can do to support you, let me know.

It's all this darkness that's depressing you! It's dark when we go to work & dark when we come home . . . Grrrr. You have to get outside even for 10 minutes - when it's light outside!! And then there's Christmas which depresses a lot of folks . . The only way I can deal with it is to get outside, even if it's sitting on my patio for 15 minutes, in the daylight. Helps. Mind you, so does a walk with a Leslie Sansone CD in the kitchen with all the lights on. I have the 1 mile, 3 mile, 5 mile walks as well as the 3 minute walk on my desktop. Get the blood circulating & you'll feel better, I promise!!!

I must apologize for posting so little of late. My dh has been under going tests and was diagnosed today with stage 4 cancer. I have no idea what the future holds but I will not have as much time to Spark. I will when I can as I need this too even though I need to be at his side. Thank you for understanding

Thanks, Pat. I'm healthy again. My computer had problems yesterday but my husband fixed it this morning.

I hope you did well in the 5K and that you don't live somewhere with a ton of snow. I'm in Mississippi so winter is mild here. I did 5Ks when I was younger but damaged my knees so can't run anymore. I do like to walk with my dogs.
