I found a Mediterranean diet & some menus in a women's magazine, so my husband and I went on it in July 2011. I lost about 30 lbs. in 3 months & he lost 60. We've kind of stablized now, not losing as quickly. We are both retired now so go to the gym 3 times a week & have started toning-up. I guess the change in our eating habits has certainly worked.

Hi! I am an American living in Southern Italy, so I guess I pretty much eat the Mediterranean diet, but I too gained weight here. Portion control is the key I imagine. Since we have vegetables, fish/seafood, readily available it is a big help. I have switched to whole wheat pastas and bread and tried increasing the vegetables I eat and decreasing portions and condiments. Good luck to me and all of us!!!
Goal 1: get and stay under 80 kgs, through good eating and exercise. ACCOMPLISHED!
Goal 2: get and stay under 80 kgs (fully clothed). ACCOMPLISHED!
Goal 3: get down to 77 kgs on a stable basis. work in progress...
I have a very nice cookbook called "The Mediterranean Cookbook" that I like very much. The publisher is Parragon Publishing and it is filled with hundreds of recipies with full color photos of the dishes. The only drawback is that the nutrition is not listed by any of the recipies. We can track that in Sparkpeople though. I would recommend this book for you. :) Tara

Thanks for your reply. As a young woman, I lived in the south of France for a year and a half--Perpignan, Pau, Toulouse, then north to Lyon. I loved the food. It was especially fun to visit the boulangeries.

I am from the south of france so that's pretty much my everyday diet; it's really just eating some carb at every meal (since we are bread lovers) white meat and we season everything with olive oil and herbs. It did not prevent me to put on weight since I love cake and you can overload on bread but even when I was overweight I had a super healthy heart and never had cholesterol
