I usually eat the tuna plain, no mayo, but I add a generous amount of chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and peas. All the veggies make it moist and flavorful.

I usually mix in some of my favorite veggies and then use a low calorie dressing. or greek yogurt. Sometimes I put in a boiled egg as well to change it a bit. Also a low calorie grated cheese and then put it in a sandwich maker or simply have it on a bed of lettuce.

great sub for mayo:
blend cottage cheese (I use a magic bullet) with a small amount of rice vinegar. (about 1/4 cup cottage cheese to 1 tsp rice vinegar).

It's smooth, creamy, and has that little tang like mayo.

Personally, I like to blend that with a couple of sundried tomatoes and some garlic and savory-- super tangy, awesome spread/dressing/"creamy filler" for pasta salads, etc.

I make tuna salad a lot. I use either light mayo or light miracle whip. The calorie count is very low in these. Just make sure you measure out the serving. Also, as someone mentioned below, the olive oil mayo that just came out is very good and get's your healthy fat in for the day.

Good luck!

Great topic. I love my tuna sandwiches and unfortunately I love them with mayo. I think they have some new mustard/mayo combo in a bottle. I'm going to give it a try. emoticon

Thanks to everyone! Such great ideas. I haven't went to the store yet. I decided to go Friday that way I can pick up some things for Dinner. I can't wait to try all the ideas. But I think I'm going to try the Plain Yogurt first. What I may end up doing is putting a bit of dried spices into the yogurt like oregano or sea salt and pepper. I'm not sure but it depends.

Thanks Everyone!

brown mustard is good, but to go low-cal, yellow mustard is tasty, too. dill relish always picks it up for me, and i've switched to using olive oil mayo, to get in a little dose of healthy fats...
my boyfriend has added lemon pepper, and i sometimes do it with a good squeeze of lemon, a little olive oil, and fresh basil--yum!!

good luck!

For bread check out sandwich thins also they are like skinny hamburger rolls.

I love to use a vinaigrette for tuna salad. Where I live the restaurants call it Italian tuna and they usually add a little chopped olive to it instead of the traditional relish.

I like mustard; a little goes a long way and it has practically no calories! (It's pretty much just vinegar). I agree with the Ranch salad dressing, too. That's good.

Greek yogurt would work. You might also want to try olive oil and lemon juice.

I like to use Kraft low-fat Balsamic Vinigarette...it only has a bit of fat...and is really yummy...if you want a bit of creaminess you could add just a tsp of low fat mayo...or a little bit of yogurt...Greek yogurt is thicker...Hope this has helped...oh...and I love to put pickles in my tuna salad too!

Can someone help me please?

I'm going to the store in the morning and I'm picking up some things to make Tuna Salad Sandwiches. You know, something to hold me until I can go back to the store. I'm not a big fan of Mayo but when I make Tuna Salad, I add Miracle Whip. And I'm even getting sick of that too. What can I add in place of Mayo for Tuna Salad?

Someone from I know suggested to use Lettuce Leaves instead of Bread when trying to cut down on calories. But sometimes I need Bread(I use Sara Lee Whole Wheat) to make up for calories I still need.

For my Tuna Salad I use:

~Canned Albacore Tuna in Water
~A Jar of Sweet Baby Pickels (slice them length wise then run them through the mini food processor.)
~Celery (I hand chop those)
~Boiled Eggs minus the Egg Yolk
~Sometimes Chopped Onion
~And a little bit of seasoning.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
