Do you have any discount stores nearby? I find great, quality items at places like TJMaxx and Tuesday Morning (latter may be local to my central PA area, I'm not sure). You can also check places like GoodWill and the Salvation Army. Our area has a huge Salvation Army, where I found one of those set-it-and-forget-it rotisseries - brand new! My digital scale requires 2 AAA batteries, so keep that in mind as you shop. Good luck in your search.

I have a fancy food scale.I found it on sale and I'm glad I did. My family measures so many things now. It's surprising at times to see how much food you got per serving.

Just ordered one online this morning! I was hesitant, but now I think it'll be a great benefit in helping me understand just what 4-oz. of this, 2 oz- of that, actually IS. Thanks to comments here, I went for a digital model.

I couldn't live without mine. I just upgraded to a digital scale (passing on my old scale to a friend) and boy what a difference.

It seems a though you have been very successful with your weight loss from what I can see, how did you do that without using a scale? Just curious because I have never used a scale and I am like you thinking about getting one since I know for sure that I have an issue with the sizes of my portions. Congratulations on the accomplishments you have made so far.

I sure do!! I love it--so handy for measuring awkwardly-shaped pasta by the ounce (spaghetti...), and for really getting your calorie count correct!

My dad bought it for me, once I lost 5 lbs.

Yes; I probably have the same one PATJOHN has; a weight watchers. It was inexpensive and invaluable. I have(had!) a big problem with portion control so I weigh and measure everything. It is amazing what a serving should be and what I used before I weighed or measured it. If I was on limited income, I would buy a reasonably priced scale and spend the saved on a piece of exercise equipment.

I have a manual one I bought from Weight Watchers a few years back. I use it a lot. I measure one oz. of chips when I have an occassional craving. Also, I make 4 oz. 93% lean ground beef patties, weigh pasta, etc. If I dont weigh, my portions are too big.

I finally figured out why my weight loss was stalled - I had NO CLUE what a portion size was, and I was eating way more than I was logging (like pasta? 2 ounces is way less than I thought). I can't live without my scale... I couldn't afford one of those digital $40. ones, so I bought a little plastic one for $6.95 and it has done me well.

I just bought my first one today. I got it from Tuesday Morning, discounted, for only 4.99 USD. It's small but perfect for just the two of us. I really look forward to see just how off I was on my portions...I have a feeling it's by quite a bit.

I use a postal scale because we bought it years ago for some work we were doing. We stopped doing the work but when I started eating healthy it didn't make sense to buy another scale when this one worked great. It was about $35 when we got it. It's the Ultraship 75 though it costs a bit more now and hopefully I'll never have to weigh 75 lbs worth of food on it (the max limit).

It has a removable top for cleaning though I always put food in a bowl or plate; it has a zero out button and you can get pounds, pounds and ounces, grams, or just ounces. The site we got it from has a great reputation, fast service and a ton of choices. Right now they have a 24 hour special on the Biggest Loser scale for $20 but I don't know if it has the features you want.

I own one that I adore. I bought a second one for my Mom and recommended it to a co-worker who now loves hers too.

OXO Good Grips Stainless Food Scale with Pull-Out Display
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJMTNA

You can toggle between US and metric by pushing a button. It measures metric in decimal places (grams) and US in fractions (ounces/pounds). It doesn't have a part that removes for washing.. but you can put your plate or bowl on the scale and zero it, then put your food on the plate. If your plate/bowl is so big that it would hide the display, the display itself can be pulled forward, away from the scale. It's got a small, neat profile. I bought it for $50 -- more than some others, but definitely worth it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I am looking to purchase a digital food scale as my next reward. I would prefer one that has a removable piece which you weigh the food on, for easy cleaning. I am looking for one that weighs at least to one decimal place if not two places. I am also wanting one which I can change the unit of measure for various items.

If you currently own a digital food scale:
Do you love it?
What brand is it?
How much did it cost?
Would you recommend it to a friend?

Thanks so much in advance!!
