thanks Jen. I get tons of e-mails from SP so I don't know why I didn't get the ones for the challenges. Lin

If you didn't get the emails (sometimes they get caught in spam folders), at the top of our team page you'll see links to each week's action steps. Click on those, and it's the same info you would have received in the email.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen

Jen - I remember joining this Team, I've contributed to some of the discussions, and have some of the goals in my Other Goals page but It stays there week after week after week and I don't ever remember receiving an e-mail outlining what is to be done in any of the weeks. What am I missing so I can actually participate?

Hi Maggie

Yep, the group is ongoing. We have people joining and leaving the challenge all the time depending on their needs and interests.

I had a message that I hadn't set any goals. I clicked on that and got a little menu of possible goals. I read and checked the first one and got directed to another page congratulating me for setting that goal. I wanted to read the others and see if there were any more I wanted to pick, but I can't find my way back to the menu of goals. Any advice?

The challenge is ongoing, so you can just complete the 4 weeks on your own schedule if that works for you.

I joined the challenge and then, due to family issues, had to leave town for a week. Can I just start today with Week 1 and complete the 4 weeks on my new time? Or should I wait for this challenge to begin again another time?

In the meantime I have begun to reorganized my kitchen.

Thanks.

Sometimes those emails get caught in junk folders. If you go to our Team page and look at the top where it says "action steps", those are the emails. You can click on each one to read them.

What am I missing? I don't know what is referred to by "checking them off at the top of the Team page". Where should I be seeing this? I guess I don't know what you call the Team Page.

I think those are technically legumes. Personally, I wouldn't count them as veggies.

I have built a routine of shopping daily to build in my regular walk each day. It is working well and saves me a weekly drive to the grocery store which also fits my environmental goals of using the car less overall. My backpack limits what I can purchase and keeps my impulse buying in check :)
I do use lists and have a meal plan (mostly day by day) but just thought I'd share that for some of us the weekly grocery list may not be as effective. I shop more by what I can carry that day and then hopefully shop only once every 3-4 weeks for the larger items that are just too unwieldy for the back pack.
I am going to challenge myself to develop a week's worth of meals as outlined in the challenge and meter out the grocery list for each day. Will that suffice for the first challenge of the week?

If you look at the top of our team page, you'll see a link to the Action Steps for each week. You should see Week 1 highlighted , which is the Week 1 email. If you don't receive the email, you can access all of the info from there.

Hope that helps,

If you want to restart, you can either click the button at the bottom of the Team page that says "Leave This Team", and then rejoin again to get the emails again. Otherwise, all of the emails are linked at the top of our team page, so you can access them there.

If you click on my Trackers at the top of the page and go to My Nutrition, you'll see a button that says "Tracker Options". Click there and you can select to use the meal plans.

Hope that helps,

I would like to restart the challenge from the beginning. Mainly because I never have figured out where I start?? Can you tell me how to restart the challenge and I need some input as to how I get started with week one. Where do I go to do the meal plans? Sorry I am technically challenged.

Can challenges like this one ever be put on hold? What I mean is, this challenge is very important and I joined it to get me back on track as well as to become a better cook & menu planner. I knew I couldn't achieve the trophy in 4 weeks, and I didn't want to, that isn't my goal truly. It's the cooking tips I'm wanting above all else from this challenge. But, I'd like to freeze a week or re-start the whole challenge until I catch up to e-mails, is this possible in the future? 4 weeks isn't long enough for some challenges and I think this one takes longer than 4 weeks to achieve long term success.

This seems like a dumb question...but maybe others have it, too. When cooking a casserole "batch" such as lasagna, is it best to cook completely (including oven time), then cool and freeze? Or just do all the prep, including sautéing veges or browning meats, but then freeze BEFORE baking?

I have been trying several big batch recipes and am loving it. But recipes do not include directions for freezing and then later cooking the recipe. So far I have been winging it and nothing has over or under cooked yet, but when making and freezing a family size portion (and I usually set my oven to cook while I'm at work so I can't watch it), it would be a disaster to ruin something!

On the bacon fat question, I found something called ham "base" it's kinda like a boullion, in a big jar,it lasts forever and use a lil olive oil for the "mouth" feel. It's good in greens and beans. Bacon fat is not good for you!! I used to use it, I grew up on it, it tastes GREAT!
I don't even eat pork bacon anymore, my favorite food in the whole wide world!! If you don't eat bacon, you won't have bacon fat.
I read the label on the ham base it is FULL of salt, so don't use it either! emoticon

You might want to start a new thread in our Team to ask for suggestions. More people are likely to see it that way :)

Hello All!!! I was doing pretty good, losing almost 20lbs in the past few months- Actually fitting into shorts I haven't worn in two years simply by planning and tracking my meals... However I have been on a two week binge, eating everything that is not labeled with a skull and crossbones. I joined this team in hopes it will get me back on track, Any suggestions? I know portion control is paramount, but some days I just have NO WILLPOWER
emoticon
I should also add I am 51 years old and am starting to get the old lady belly-bulge and I HATE IT!!!!!

I've never used bacon grease and I cook all the time :) Are you using it in place of oil? A much healthier option would be something like olive oil.

Does that help?

P,

If you follow the action steps in each week's email for this challenge, that should help walk you through the process of starting to cook a more healthy diet.

If you have specific questions, let us know and we'll try to help.

Thanks!

Would anyone be willing to help mentor me through this process? I have never had to plan my meals before.

I want to try and make this my goal since I notice I have a problem finding suitable healthy food if I have to eat out.

Also, I think if I get into this routine I will be able to exercise and still have time for the fun things I like to do.

The site offers meal plans in your Nutrition Tracker (available to all members, not just those in this challenge). You don't have to use them, but your shopping list is based on whatever is in the tracker in the future. So if you put in what you plan to eat for the rest of the week, your list will be based on that. Or you can use SP's meal plans and your list will be based on those.

Does that help?

I am tracking what I eat -- but not my meal plans. From your post, I am assuming I need to enter meal plans. I did not know if through this challenge we would get suggested options for meal plans, or if they are all our own design.

Do you have anything tracked on your Nutrition Tracker or are you using the meal plans? The shopping list is based on what's in your tracker.

Hello,

I was looking for the shopping list -- I found the button on my nutrition tracker page. After clicking, the page that opened had dates and an option to print the list, but there was no list. Do I need to do something to get the shopping list? Thank you

You should receive an email during Week 1 that will tell you what you'll be focusing on for the week. If you don't get it, look at the top of our Team page and you'll see a link to it.

If you scroll to the bottom of your Nutrition tracker, you'll see a link for a grocery list there.

Hope that helps,

Hi I just joined on Feb. 4. I clicked on the challenge of planning meals and making one grocery list. After I clicked on that the page went away and I didn't get to choose anything else. I can't figure out how to get back to that page. Can you help me please?

I don't think you need to start over. It's fine to move ahead to week 2.

Hello, I did everything for week one, but I'm just now getting around to checking the box today. Am I too late for week one, or should I start over. It doesn't matter if I have to. I have to make sure to track regularly.

When I joined this challenge a page came up that said that our moderator has not been active in the challenge for over 60 days? Should I click on the link that will make me the moderator now? Will the group close if someone does not click on the link? I am a bit confused by this entire thing and am wondering what does it all mean?

N,

If you go back to the main Team page and scroll to the bottom, you'll see our Team Goals there. If you click on the title of one of the threads on the Team page, then click reply, you'll be able to respond there.

Hope that helps,

Hi there,

I have a couple of questions. First, at one point I was able to get to a place in the Healthy Cooking Challenge where I could set my goals - now I can't find it????? Also, on the message board it says to post "here" instead of starting a new thread, but can't figure how it works. When I click on it there's nowhere for me to type my comment or question??

Hopefully you can explain it to me. I'm looking forward to meeting the challenge of planning a weeks' worth of menus etc.

As a leader, are you in the process of losing weight or are you maintaining??

I must say, that I took the week one challenge and wrote down my list...it is very expensive to eat really healthy and purchase fruits and veggies. Is there a way to do this cheaper? I find it sad that millions of Americans are considered "obese" and yet, the "Little Debbies" are cheap to buy and prices won't go down on foods that are considered to be healthier.K.

Hey Coach Jen,
I didn't receive an email for week 3 challenge. The 3rd week at the top of each forum wes not accessible (grey fonts instead of black). My timing may be off but it shows week 2 starting 5.18, since I completed week 2's challenges, my expectation was to start week 3 5.26. If I've missed something, either in the weeks challenge or dates, please let me know. This has been a fun challenge & I've found it reconfirms much of what I'm implementing. I also learn several new things every week. How can I lose?
Thanks for your time & attention. Happy cooking!

They are asking how many meals. So you could just put a "1" in that box.

When I click on cook one meal at home 2x week, it asks how much? Are they asking how much food I've cooked or how long it took. Sorry, a little confused here. Thanks :)

Great! Thank you. I have discovered I love using the crockpot. I'm not that good in the kitchen and using the crockpot saves cooking time and clean up time. The bonus is that my husband and my M-I-L both like the dishes I've made so far.

Thanks again. Take care and Spark On! emoticon emoticon emoticon
