I was on vacation last week, so I couldn't sign on or post much. No internet connection! One of my goals in losing weight and changing my life was to be able to right a sailboat (a Sunfish), and then get back in it. I learned to sail last year, but couldn't right the boat if I "turtled" it (turned it over, sail submerged), and once my husband, or one of my daughters, righted it for me, I couldn't pull myself back into the boat. It was horrible. I was just far too heavy.
My girls were attending sail camp last week. It's a yearly tradition their grandfather started. They love it. This year, on a particularly windy day after sail camp, we decided it was a good afternoon for sailing. We rigged our boats, and off we went. I'm not very good at heading where I want to go, yet, and the wind was 10 to 15 knots. Once I finally got out in the deep water, my boat went over -- three times! Every time, I was able to right the boat by myself AND climb back in it! In fact, my ten-year-old turtled her boat, and couldn't get it righted, so I jumped out of mine, and went to help her! I righted hers, and then swam back to my boat and got in it by myself!! It was glorious!
I have a lot of "boat bites," but every single bruise is worth it for the sense of accomplishment I gained. I have lost nearly 40 pounds since February, and I feel AWESOME!!!
