For me, I think eight minutes of any consistant activity is better than zero minutes!! I've also seen where the HIIT training is a bit more targeted to elite athletes, but Tabata is the same basic idea but working within the current health constraints of a weaker sort and building up. I just need to be more consistent in even making any effort!!

It requires a powerful desire to absolutely maximize performance or other results of training for this kind of detail to be important. The repeated observation that elite athletes train a lot, generally a lot more than working folks have time for, is probably the important feature of their training program that leads to their outstanding performance.

But people who have a strong interest in anything, from dry fly fishing, to coin collecting, to stock car racing, to competitive body sculpting and including competitive lifting, these people are interested in the details and assign importance to elements of style that escapes people less involved.

Getting out, being active, avoiding injury and having fun are important and widely available. Payoff appears to include better health. What more motivation do we need?

Haven't read the study, only the article. I'm not sure that 8 is a magic number, but I'm continually amazed by how less is more when it comes to both endurance and strength exercises.
