I intend to eat mindfully and enjoy an early Thanksgiving meal with our daughters and their children and my husband's 82 year old Dad and his wife. Grandchild #5 is due the first week of December and I'm so grateful for each and everyone of those precious little gifts.

Thank you Agi.

For me the point of any holiday is to share the time with my family or friends. I am thankful. Many of my loved ones have passed on; the others live in other States. I appreciate the time we do spend together.

My younger daughter and I make a monthly date to spend the day together - without kids. I also have the kids over for weekends - generally working on projects or hiking.

I have always believed the greatest gift is the gift of Self shared. I am also committed to bringing awareness to holiday traditions so it is not simply about the luscious food. Awareness is a key to a healthier, happier life.

Katie

Patty,thank you!

It definitely gets easier because our taste buds change. Since joining Spark people I have been keeping track of food and exercise. I follow my own simple rules.

1) SP every day as much as possible.
2)Don't bring it into the house.
3) Changing my lifestyle does not mean never eat that again.
4) I willing to add minutes to my workouts to eat that? lol
5)move.. every step counts
6) Be mindful and thankful.
7) It's ok to say "no, thanks."

I thought I would never stop using brown sugar on my oatmeal, but I have. I love cheese, but I realized that cheddar cheese no longer appeals to me - nor American cheese as much.I will make an occasional grill cheese sandwich with the kids. I do enjoy
Asiago,Romano and feta - and a little of that goes a lot further.

I am benefiting from SP so much. My lack of cardio and portion control were two of the biggest areas to work on - and still are.

However, I am feeling so much stronger, healthier and even sleeping better. Life is great! I am very thankful for Spark People and my teams.

MCKATIE2 you are already eating in the manner that I am working towards and I think that's fantastic.

Very well put Agi! Betterme!

In many ways I am very fortunate. I am the only vegetarian at our family get togethers. They are so used to me eating "differently". My daughter Jazz ( after I wrote out her menu for her first ever Thanksgiving cooking by herself day ) asked me what I was going to eat. I said a baked yam, a wee bit of fruit salad, a bite of mashed potato, spinach ...maybe try that new recipe for baked beans from here.. and a deviled egg. Then I will be bringing a plate of the same home as I have a double on Friday. It is definitely easier because I won't be cooking nor baking ( I'm working Thanksgiving ). I eat a lot of pumpkin - pancakes, crustless pumpkin pie, pumpkin oatmeal so I do not crave pumpkin pie like I would have in the past. Plus.. I do not really have traditional food... and am often satisfied with 3 bites where before I would eat seconds.. Last Christmas I made Spinach quiche.

I have noticed that the longer I eat basic foods ( garden fresh or those having no more than 5 ingredients ) the less I care for anything processed.

I will be committed to eating healthy over the holiday season. I will eat no more, nor less than what is healthy for me to remain in balance. I will continue to exercise throughout.

I shall Enjoy the company of my family and friends - time shared is the greatest gift.

Well said Agi. It's important for all of us to approach the upcoming holiday season and all its tasty temptations with an attitude of awareness of what and how much we are eating. Enjoying and participating without over-indulging. Let's all find ways to to help one another and celebrate the season.
