To stay within budgets; to not go beyond my own healthy money and energy spending limits; stay away from temperature extremes by covering before opening the door to go out.
To think of others instead of my recent years of standoffish ‘I am in pain do not talk to me’ mode (I am aware it is up to me to present and create a pleasant approachable personal space);
To touch a loving base with as many people as possible;
To have a pocket full of little non-sweet pocket toys one for a child in the line each time I shop, with mother approval candidate for the little something would be a little limit hitting stranger with ‘tired of shopping’ eyes and dreams of Santa in the heart, as I hand over the little toy surprise.
For an exercise goal I plan lots of deep breaths to become an unconscious habit for next year and tons of belly shaking laughter to test my breathing practices.

The greatest love story is your own.
If you miss out of life to the fullest; they win.
You are the happiness master of your own mind.
Thought is an active dynamic energy to harmonize and corrolate good.
Clear all paths to love thru forgiveness.
I may not recognize the significance until some time later.
Is my resistance to change really that strong?
Impatience does not provide the time to learn the lesson;
Awaken new ways to approach the dissolving of a problem;

So, here's our December Challenge. Every goal begins with a small step. I want anyone who wants to participate to think of what they want to accomplish by December 31st. Then start with telling us your first, small step toward that goal.
I usually have trouble being disciplined enough to exercise independently so I joined exercise classes BUT there will be no classes for three weeks in December I need to have a exercise plan put together in the next (1st step) for those three weeks and stick with it.

My life tomorrow will be the result of my attitudes and the choices I make today.

Mine is to start back into my exercises. I have had 6 weeks where the doctor told my to rest and not exercise because my back was hurting so much. Monday is the end of that 6 weeks so I am hoping to get back to the gym.

The holidays are days like any other for me... with the exception of the company! LOL

I track, I exercise, I clean up the house... but I have help with a lot of that and enjoy the process because I'm around people I care about and who care about me!...

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL

Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called

My first step is exercise 10 minutes a day and 30 minutes 3 times a week. When I trashed my knee, I got out of the habit. When I exercise, I refuse to blow all that hard work on eating garbage!

I fell out of the nutrition tracking habit when I got sick a few weeks back. Time to get back in the habit!

Thanks for starting this thread Nancy. Maybe it will get me back in gear!

Thanksgiving was such a wake up call for me. If December is anything like last Thursday: the holidays are gonna be a really dangerous for me and my calorie intake. I ate all the time! We hosted but did not cook. The family brought the traditional dishes but they all were so tempting, I continued to go back again and again. Usually by the time I have shopped, cleaned and cooked, I am so sick of food I eat very little and want to get it in the leftover containers and out of sight. Most of it goes home with the family but this year everyone made more so we would have lots of leftovers. Well, I ate so much we didn't have to worry about having a lot sitting in the fridge.

So for all our December outings I have decided to fill my plate once, eat it and sip water and coffee. I am going to eat only at the assigned times and only what I take the first time.

If I can change my behavior and eat all day long.....I can change it back and eat just once.

Until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain to change: You won't.

My goal is to Track more consistently. I have gained 5 lb. in 2 mo. and one of the glaring factors is I stopped tracking when DH came home and we started traveling.

My first small step will be to make sure I don't eat mindlessly. My husband will bring home donuts & pastries & usually I will eat them without thinking or just to get rid of them. He bought donuts last night & so far today I haven't eaten a one. Yay!

Patti2255 wrote a message to several of us a few days ago asking if we had suggestions for games or goals for December. Many of you replied that December is a stressful time for you and it is difficult to keep up with your healthy eating or healthy exercising, etc.

So, here's our December Challenge. Every goal begins with a small step. I want anyone who wants to participate to think of what they want to accomplish by December 31st. Then start with telling us your first, small step toward that goal.

Here's mine. I know I overeat during the holidays because that's when the tastiest food is available. For me, it's egg nog, fruitcake, baklava, potato pancakes, etc. So, my first step is to allow myself to have a taste of these things. It will be half of a portion. And no more that day.

What's your goal and your first, small step?
