Lexxiwitch,

Thank You for that, but over the years I have tried to explain to other how the pain can be, so I have had lots of practice trying to explain that the pain is different than what one gets from working out or things like that. What really keys me in on this was when my doctor started me on Lyrica. It was right after the FDA had approved it for treatment of Fibro and he told me it had been developed to treat people with nerve damage. Now I was able to understand the pain and why it was different than other pain. It was a big help to me.

Take Care,

Susan

My right wrist (I'm right handed) still hurting. But not as bad today. Going without the splint but still had to have the school secretary open a bottle of pills for me to give to one of the kiddos. Bad when the school nurse can't open a child-proof bottle. :o(. I also found out last night from my most recent lab reports that I am severely Vitamin D deficient. Looked up some stuff on internet...hmmm, says chronic pain sometimes can be attributed to not enough Vit. D. So, just a thought...some of you may want to have your Vit. D levels tested. I have a new very sharp endo. doctor (Dr. Gaddam) You'll see her name if you do too many searches on thyroid etc.
Here's hoping the new RX of Vit. D will help.

I have gotten to the point that I can easily tell the difference between the two. Fibro pain has a different kind of pain than back pain or pain from working out in that is has no source. When I work out or exercise a muscle the I can feel the pain in the muscle it's self, but fibro pain started in the nerve endings and not in the muscle tissue.

My back..sometimes can get it confused with muscle pain after working out. It can feel liked I'm bruised and so sensitive!

I'm still hurting in my right wrist. Wearing a splint today. Helps some but not a lot. Strange, the tops of my feet where hurting last week. I chalked it up to my diabetes. Could be the fibro.... I currently don't take any meds for my fibro other than Ibuprofen, heat, ice, splints. But seriously thinking about going back to the doctor. I already take so many meds for diabetes and asthma..I've tried to handle the pain for over 10 years but lately it's getting less manageable. My RX bill every month is unbelievable and of course there's always the wonderful side effect. :o(

OMG YES!! I've had that for years! It's been a long time since I could wear my good tie sneakers, so I've reverted to slip-on shoes. The brand I started buying is Ryka...It's available from QVC in many styles and their motto is "made for women BY women". They run wider in the toebox and narrower in the heel - I LOVE 'em! A little pricey, but worth it! I also have arthritis in my feet and these help with that, too. No break-in time, just get them out of the box and wear!

Jo,

You still do not want a cold or worse yet the flu. They can make you hurt just as much as the Fibro does at times. That is one reason it is sometimes refered to as like having the Flu ALL the time.

Right wrist was hurting so bad yesterday could barely use it at work. But, thank God, today not so bad. I type a lot at work...so I need my hands. Today I have the sniffles and sore throat...not fibro :o) Yeah!! funny how I'm so grateful for something else other than... I'm hoping the cold does not take root....they stay with me FOREVER..and with my diabetes and asthma...usually end up at the doctor's office. Here's praying.... I REFuse to get a cold!!!

Can't get away from the pain, meds don't help, can't sleep even in pain then. I know I need a new mattress desperately, just can't afford it.Pain meds only causing bowel problems ,not relieving the pain any more. using epsion salt baths, muscle rubs, heating pads etc.Deperate for relief.

Does anyone else have these.

One... I can take a normal step and get a shooting pain as if I had just sprained my ankle.

Two... The soft pallet between the nose and opening of the upper mouth is so swollen I sometime feel as if it is about to close up and I'll suffocate.

Today it's my knees more than anything. I've been doing a lot of running from heated to outside on pavement so that doesn't help. I haven't taken anything so maybe it's not that bad. I drank some tea which has helped my sinuses but I am thinking about taking some ibuprophen. My back bothered me this weekend - even on waking but doesn't hurt now.

My aches are my neck and head. And some days everywhere. It get old after a while. My brothers who are in their 40s also have it. We also have headaches too. So, it really is bad. I had to quit my job last week because of my neck. Luckily, I already get a pension. But I need to find something I can do so I don't have to stay home all day.

Today is a painful day. My back and hips are sore. There is an area in the middle of my back to the left of my spine that is numb. I used to have it a lot but haven't noticed it in a long time. Just stiff and achy all over and feeling very LAZY!

Depending on how much pain medication I'm on makes a difference as to how much I hurt. I have multiple health issues. No matter what I do or try I can't get the pain in my feet to go away. In March I get a new nerve conduction test done. I need to find out if my knee replacement is still an option. It has been my motivational goal since the first knee surgery last April.Having fibro always means pain- it is the level of the pain and whether you can function?

Better get it taen care of soon. It doesn't get any better waiting. My 2 boys both had it and they are not that old and the 1 waited too long and now has a colostomy. He will be reconnected this spring. In the mean time he has lost around 35#, the hard way. He is starting to come around, but will not be able to work for several months. So don't wait

Lower back and left leg achillies tendon/heel. I have been sick with Bronchitis, so this does not help matters because I have been less active.
Congrats on your daughters wedding, I am so jealous of the beautiful weather you all experienced. We have had nothing but a whole lot of rain and storms here, so getting out for a walk is even a bigger challange.

Well... I kinda hurt all over. My mid back hurts and my feet and up the front of my legs to my knees - CAUSE I WAS DANCING AT MY DAUGHTER'S WEDDING!!!! Yes siree!

The weekend was totally awesome! My stomach settled down and I was able to eat everything but the soup that was served because it was a bit spicy!

The weather was great! Everything was perfect. The Ceremony was beautiful. There was so much wonderful food, it being a Portuguese Wedding. The speeches were amazing. It couldn't have been any better.

Of course I am still very tired but it is a good kind of tired. I keep replaying different parts of the day through my head. It is so wonderful to see my "little girl" so happy! Now they are in Cuba.

It'll probably take me a week to get unpacked and everything but what does it matter? :)

My pain is all over, the worst area is right along the spine. I don't know how it holds me up anymore. My pain is constant, with varying degrees on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being the lest amount of pain 10 being the greatest. Mine ranges mostly from 5 to 10.

I to try to manage my pain holistically. Some time though I can't take anymore and have to reach for a big gun.

I have been able to Identify some of the foods that seem to exacerbate my pain.

We all have a journey of mountains and valley's with this condition.

Hope you all do well with your journey.

Good News People! I hurt most in the wallet. I am not working. I am bankrupt. I only use pharmaceutical grade supplements only because the standard over-the-counter supplies: pain relievers, vitamins, etc… harm me. I eat clean food that took my years to unravel my no-no’s and my desires to them. I take a complete panel of vitamins and minerals recommended by Dr Murphree and other orthomolecular medicine minded doctors. I cure with vitamins and kill pain with amino acids. My support team of doctors and advisers encourage healing and energy recharging. Wish my wallet could absorb the hits as the system is does not socially support us in the winning ways we need. They just keep us attached to their prescription plan that does not promote deep healing. I found my groove! I hope you can recover with strong hope as I am doing. Thanks to others with Fibro, who took the time to share their stories, have guided and shared their hope for me.

Here is an example of being unsupported. In 2008, I cried at the Fibromyalgia support group meetings sponsored by the local hospital. I attended a few sessions and to my detriment, I was kicked off the group. I believe it was for not being a patient of a certain doctor and for sharing winning ways to overcome pain without added chemicals found in foods and drugs. Oh, it was done in a politically correct way. I was not told of the next meeting time and location! She promoted her drugs I refused to take ie. Lyrica, Cytomel, anti-depressants, etc…On top of that she found out I had lost my insurance.

Find your true healing! Other people recover from Fibro/CFS to live productive lives with a few set backs. I want to be one of them.

BB...I don't know what you've tried.
Aloe vera heals the inside the way it heals the outside. Many stomach remedies are made of aloe.
The full spectrum probiotics will rebalance the flora and fauna.
Much of what you listed as a bland diet is aggravating to the stomach lining. Most contain chemicals and food color along with synthetic vitamins that make many ppl nauseated.
If your stomach burns, try alkaline foods. If you feel you aren't digesting, try acid foods.

So far today, I am not hurting badly! My knees are a little stiff but I'm in a fantastic mood for some reason, I haven't taken any meds so far (mine are PRN) and I'm not really sore - not enough to complain about!

I think the neck is the worst. When it flares then a bad headache is usually close behind.

BB2693, I hope this helps you. I have problems with olive oil and I would leave out the herbal teas, they can cause upset because the blend is not consistant. My Dr Rx Zantac for the first two week of meds to help ease my stomach into them as it is very subject to problems. It is over the counter however, talk to your Dr as it may react with a med you are taking. I also find a probiotic pudding or activia will settle a problem quick and I carry bland animal crackers with me in a pinch. They are quick, easy, small and about six can be effective.

I need some suggestions! I am posting this on a few of the forums because I know different people use different ones.

Okay... so - I think I have had a major allergic reaction to something I have eaten along with an already agitated stomach due to having tried Celebrex (for less than a month). It is due mostly to the combination of medications I am on reacting badly together and affecting my stomach.

My daughter is getting married January 23 and I HAVE TO get my stomach settled down.

I am eating pretty bland foods: rice pasta, olive oil, green beans, peas, organic unsweetened apple sauce, chicken, fish, soup, protein bars, Ensure Meal Replacement, Rice Krispies (with Ensure - tastes kind of funny but I am avoiding milk too as well as wheat... so all whole grain foods which I normally eat). Drinking green and herbal tea (lavender) and water. Hopefully once this settles down I will be able to go back on a Rotation Type Diet - leaving 4 days between foods that can upset me.

Does anyone know of a remedy that might speed up the healing process?

I saw my Rheumatologist on Friday and he changed the medication I am taking for my stomach but I have less than two weeks to get feeling better!!!

Would appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks,

BB

I can relate to all you wrote. I did apply for SSD in November. My husband has been unemployed since Oct 2008 and looking for a job. I had two surgeries and our part of medical bills for 2008 was over 20 thousand. I have been unemployed since leaving military Aug 2007 due to fibro pain and anxiety. It took 3 years but now as of Nov 2009 I finally received health coverage thru the veterans administration but my husb still doesn't have coverage. I am in a VA voc rehab program and they are trying to find a job I can handle with my disability. I am trying to get a federal job to get health benefits for my husband. He was an engineer for GM and Delphi Electronics. There are alot of unemployed Chrysler, GM and Delphi workers in our area (Central Indiana). Actually, I am putting applications trying to get a job in Florida. Why stay where it is cold? I no longer have to be here for the military. Husb has no reason to stay because of a job. We have no family in Indiana. It will be worth the expense to move.
Hang in there. I am new to this site also. It is nice to know others can relate to an illness friends and relatives "can't see" because we look fine on the outside of our bodies. emoticon

LULUBELE1, It is common in fibromyalgia to have TMJ and that can cause tooth pain/gum pain because you grind/clench jaw muscles tight. Ask the dentist and a night guard might give you some relief. Also if you notice that you don't have the pain when you are on antibiotics then it may be infection of the gum tissue.(also common with fibro)

RAVENCLAWSILVER, I get shoulder blade pain a lot too. The PT said it is an area that tenses up easy. I have noticed it can be aggravated when I sleep with one arm above my head, under the pillow. The PT applies heat and massage, at home use a small pool noodle cut to size or a tennis ball and stand with it between the wall and your back. Moving back and forth it can work out the knot and stabbing pain. If you can get your partner to massage it, that's good too. Good Luck

This morning my left shoulder blade is stabbing me something awful. Couldn't sleep last night due to the pain being worse when laying down. I am now working on about 7.5 hours of sleep in two days. I can't stand when it gets this out of hand.

I feel like someone else I saw posted in here. It would be easier to say where I didn't hurt! emoticon My pressure points are screaming 75% of the time. Low back feels like someone has a grab hook in the middle and is pulling on it.
I was diagnosed with Fibro in 1977 by a Rheumatologist whom I was sent to because they thought I had RA. I was having so much stiffness in my hands and arms that I couldn't open the medicine bottles at work. They sent a blood test off and it came back positive. But he said I didn't have RA because I didn't have any joint involvement. That was "back in the day" when hardly anyone knew anything about Fibro and the MD's refused to even acknowledge it. Thank Heaven my doctor was a D.O. and he treated me with Motrin and Aspirin. But I got pregnant soon after that and had a miscarriage due to the meds. I have always had to work to support my family, I had 6 children with an age span of 18 years. Over the years since then, I have learned to live with the pain, taking only Ibuprofen for the most part. I tore my lower back up transferring a patient one day and have a partially herniated disc and a pinched nerve. But I have a hyper sensitivity to many meds, so muscle relaxants and many pain meds just knocked me on my you know what. Couldn't drive, work, or take care of my kids. I can take Flexeril now if I don't have to work the next day!! Ha Ha. Tried Lyrica when it came out, but had too many side effects and made me gain even more weight.
Over the years I have also had to gradually reduce my work load, trying easier jobs (physically anyway) until I am now semi-retired, working two days a week. I am drawing Social Security, but have to work the two days in order to survive. Have no insurance and won't for 3 years until I reach 65 and can get Medicare. So, with my physical activity reduced, I have gained so much weight that I am miserable. I weigh 40 lbs more than I ever did nine months pregnant. It's a vicious circle. The more you hurt, the less you do; the less you do, the more you gain. The more you gain, the more you hurt; the more you hurt............well, you get the picture. Now I am beginning to have more serious health problems crop up. I have always had IBS since I was a teenager, due to stressful situations when I was young. Which by the way, stress was originally thought to be one of the precursors to Fibro. I have had killer indigestion 24/7, 365 days a year since then too. Was tested for GERD, but was negative. Took Nexium (GREAT STUFF!!) for about 3 years until all the damage to my esophagus was healed and now am able to take an OTC one. And of course the lovely Fibro. Now I have hypertension, high cholesterol, Shortness of breath and irregular heartbeats. My Doctor wants me to have a stress test done, but with no insurance am not sure if the hospital is going to let me do it on payments. Am still paying off bills for a MRSA infection I got in my leg a year ago, and cataract surgery I had done this summer. Had insurance for both of those, but it didn't pay near enough. Left with almost 7 thousand dollars worth of bills. Guess how long that will take at $150 a month?? LOL Lord, didn't mean to write an opus, just found this place today, thanks to a friend of mine. Have to get off now, take some pills and get to bed, have to work tomorrow unless it snows another foot tonight!!! Can't afford to miss.

Hi my name is Basia, I'm 19 years old and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in March of 2009. Although I started having real problems in July of 2008. When My problems began in July of 2008, I skyrocketed 30 lbs in that month. I have horrible pains in my knees and since then it's only gotten worse. I guess until now I was just in utter shock from all of this and just sat around being depressed about myself, not only from the fibro and weight gain but I lost my job, my home, and I couldn't attend college anymore because I was to the point of not being able to get out of bed. I'm learning to ignore the pain and work through it, but now my long journey of weight loss and getting healthy again is beginning.

I took Lyrica for a while, and it did nothing for me but put on about 10 lbs. It is very difficult to get off of once you have it in your system. I have had fibro for 17 years, and take Wellbutrin and Flexeril. Still have pain in my neck and headaches everyday. Going to the doctor in February to see if there is anything else I could try. Good luck, I hope Lyrica works for you, but it does cause weight gain. emoticon

I have neck and shoulder pain constantly. I also have a weird numb spot in the upper arm which makes it painful to initiate upward movement of the arm. I am back at the gym walking and doing light machine work. I also take a Zumba class 2x weekly that I thought I wouldn't be able to do. Most of us in the class have some form of arthritis but we do it. It has been a great experience for me.

The cold weather is killer for me, and living in ice cold Iowa is tough!! I tend to stay indoors most of the winter, ( I think last year I went out only 5 times the entire winter!!) which is tough on depression, because I spend most of my time alone as a result!
I take morphine for the pain, and used to take neurontin, but didn't notice much help from it after being on it for many many years.
I don't have any advice for you except to wish you well, and hope that the neurontin works for you!
good luck and best to you!

Does anyone hurt more and feel more fatigue when colder weather or a storm is coming? I am on pain meds and am going to start Neurontin (sp?). I get so depressed from the pain and being so tired and falling asleep and I feel as if people really just don't understand. Its awful. I try to keep my spirits up but somedays, like today, I suppose, its too difficult.

Hello my name is Michelle Singer. I have had fibromyalgia for over 10 years. I was finally diagnosed with it last year in 2008. When it acts up I hurt in my back and it hurts to walk or it is difficult to get out of bed. I can't take lyrica or effexor because they get me sick in a bad way. I am on Flexril and tramadol. I just recently had a baby so I am trying really hard not to let it get me down. I was very happy when I found a group. I would love to hear from others who understand what it means to have this illness.

Good Morning!

I have not participated in a while. Just wanted to let everyone know I am still around. I just started Lyrica about 4 weeks ago. It has taken that long to get the pressure points on my body to subside. So far it has been working. But I still have bursitis and currently working on that, the fibro fog, working on that and perhaps a little ADD. I am just taking one ailment at a time and working on it, until I can feel human again.

My neck and shoulders are the worst today. I overdid cleaning horse stalls yesterday, and the stress of the past few days is catching up with me, I think.

today I am greatful for only hurting in my lower extremities and my back. No upper body pain. I am also greatful for one of the most memorable Christmas' ever, even though I am now taking more medications, I think this was the best one I have had in many years. How is everyone else, now that the big day has come and gone for another year? I am curious as to some of your more inventive methods of coping with pain and family/friend functions? How do you get through them and enjoy yourselves?

Peacefully, Respectfully and Truely,
Shannon

This is a hard time of year, (at least for me) All the things one must do to get ready for Christmas, the shopping, baking, cooking the list seems endless!!
I think I am finally done, just need to touch up the house a bit (scrub floors) (think I'll try to bribe hubby!) then I am DONE. I have not exercised myself either! I'm so angry about how I put other things on the list ahead of exercising!! That should be one of the first things that I do!! But I promise to everyone here and myself that I will start again after all the visiting is done! I must, I want to feel better in the new year, and I have a big class reunion(35yrs) coming up this next summer so I want to lose this extra weight!
So don't be too hard on yourself Nikkipa, it happens! Just try to get back on track tomarrow, or whenever you feel like you can start!!
I am so exhausted from all the above, that I am looking forward (finally) to some down time!!
and I hurt allllll over!
