It's Nat'l Cherry Cheesecake Day! What a lovely thought! Was a time when we were much younger, and had fewer ideas on what a good meal contists of, when Ed ordered cherry cheesecake for dessert EVERY time we went out to eat! Boy, the memories that come flickering back, seemingly out of nowhere!

Lynn: good for Katie! I love hearing 'drama' that empowers women!

Karen: prayers for your mom emoticon

Lynn, so sorry about all the bad news. Will definitely keep your friend in my prayers, as well as your daughter. When my daughter and I were living in NC, our rental house got broken into while I was job hunting in KY. I felt so violated. After the first time I went in and found out someone had been in there, I couldn't bear to go back. My son packed us up and we moved. Fortunately I had loaned my son my computer, so we still had that. The most painful thing was losing my VCR collection (it was about 14 years ago lol). I lost all the Disney movies I had been collecting since my kids were babies.
The weather here has been absolutely beautiful. My lilac bush is blooming, and my little apple tree is absolutely covered in blooms. The pollen is so bad the car is covered in yellow - not good for allergies, but I love this time of year.
Please keep my mom in your prayers. She has to go on kidney dialysis. She is looking into the peritoneal kind that she can do at home at night. Her kidneys have been failing slowly over the years and it's to the point the doctor said she needs dialysis.

Lynn, I'm so sorry to hear about Katie. That has to be so scarey. Especially how violently they broke down the door!!! Stuff can always be replaced - and of course - I'm thankful that they weren't home, but I'm sure they feel very uneasy after something like that. I pray that the police find out who did it - and soon! Kuddo's to her for moving. I don't blame her - I would too!

When Don and I were first married and living in St. Louis, we lived in a condo. He was out of town and I had just gotten home from work. We didn't have a screen door - just the front door. There was a knock and instead of ignoring it, I answered the door. This man was selling peep holes and before I knew what happened, he pushed me into the house - pulled out his drill and put the thing in and then told me it was $10. I paid him - locked the door, set the dead bolt, put a chair in front of the door and didn't sleep a wink until Don got back!!I

So sorry to hear the news Lynn. So very sad. You know you are always in my prayers ....

Jane - "No more candy for a year" WOW - wished I had that willpower (as she sat here and ate her 5th mint of the day!!)

Ladies - I won't be on for a day or so....(perhaps more like 3 or 4) Yesterday was my dd news...and then today my best teaching friends' son passed away this morning. He was only 37 but had several medical things going on since being dismissed from the Navy for having diabetes. He didn't take good care of himself with it and then he got MRSA (sp?) and then I don't know what happened after all that....so even tho he'd been very ill in recent weeks his death is still a shock. I'm just in shock for her....and also my dd called and they ARE moving and she wants to start packing stuff up tomorrow and Thurs so she's taking off from school and I am going down to help her. Then I'm sure the visitation and funeral will be after that so it's going to be quite a time. Back to my dd - they can't move til May 12 or so - and back to their OLD apt complex so mom's a happier camper for them!! Bless her heart she wrote a note to the 'robbers' today and put it on their front door and said that she was praying for them and that apparently they hadn't been raised up by someone who taught them to respect others belongings and there was much more but you get the gist. She said she felt much better after writing it and putting it on their door was 'empowering'. Sorry I've had so much 'drama' lately but guess it can't be helped but I DO appreciate any and all of your prayers for them as well as my dear friend and her dh. (who has Parkinson's and is not in the best health either) Thank you everyone - I'll be back soon -- (now is that a threat or a promise??? :)))))))) ) LOL...

Beautiful day out! A bit windy, but I'm not complaining... emoticon

Lynn: sorry to hear about what happened to your daughter. You never can tell, no matter how good of a neighborhood you live in. The folks in the apt next door to my son got hit last week. They had left the slider unlocked, which we always caution Andy about not doing. They live in a complex, but behind the buildings, so nobody would notice someone checking all the doors.

Jane: you timed it right ~ today is Nat'l jelly bean day!

Nothing blooming here yet tho' the willows are turning a bit green. It was almost 80 yesterday, today we'll be lucky to hit the mid-50s. Soup weather!! Good thing as I have leftover ham that I don't want to waste. We'll have bean soup tonight & probably potato soup on Thursday as it's still going to be chilly.

Everything seems to be hurting today - right leg, lower back, neck & shoulders. Debating whether or not to take a pain pill.

I got out & about yesterday. First time at my knit/crochet group since early January due to the horrible winter weather & then Tom fracturing his ankle. Made the best of it by running errands either on the way there or the way back.

Just placed an order from Herrschners for yarn for our knit/crochet group. The company is offering free shipping today on orders over $35 and this order was WAY over. For the past 4 or 5 years, we've relied on Tom's garage sale-ing for yarn but not sure how much he'll be able to get out and about this year. Herrschners has their own brand of worsted weight at $2.99 for an 8 oz skein which is a good deal compared to what Bernat & Red Heart want for smaller skeins these days.

I think I will take a pain pill and then tackle the stack of dishes in the sink - will need the biggest pot to make soup and the rest are left over from sending the ham bone through the pressure cooker to make stock & get the last of the meat off the bones.

Also had my yearly sugar splurge - a bag of jelly beans which are usually on markdown the day after Easter. Now no more candy until next year..

50 points....WHOOHOO Shirley....
We have lots blooming here but it is cool and windy. At least today there is no rain but it is coming tonight through to the weekend. It will probably ruin my golf again on Thursday. Today DH and I are doing doentown to see if we can get bedding for our bed. He likes to have an opinion so he is coming. It takes about 50 minutes to get there so it is a trip. I sure hope we get something as I am so tired of what we have now.
So sorry to hear about the break I . Pretty scary stuff. I would be worried about them coming back too. You can't do much more than have a deadbolt lock.
Gotta run...have a good day.

Hi all!

I'm glad to hear everyone had such a nice Easter. Ours didn't go quite as planned but it turned out okay. We were going to go up to the mountains and hang out in this cute little tourist town with my ds, his fiance and her parents. Well apparently after their Sat. outing to a big festival and having to put brakes on the car they had no money left so ended up meeting them for lunch at the mall and going to see Heaven is Real (sorry if that isn't the right name)! I had read the book and I was wanting to go see it, it was pretty good. Made me cry. Easter Sunday was beautiful here though, lots of sunshine and warm temps. So it was good. I was so excited to see my ds.

Oh Lynn I'm so sorry to hear about the break in at your dd's apartment. That's sad. Our apt. complex here is supposed to be a gated community but the gates never ever work. So anyone can just drive in and yesterday we got a note in our door that a car had been stolen on Easter Sunday and again to caution us to keep our doors locked and not go out alone. Yep makes me feel real secure. It isn't the first time. I guess I'm glad they tell us, I would feel so much better though if the gates would work. Another reason I want to move!!!!!

I'm done with Drs. appts. and dentists for awhile I hope. I think my next appt. is in August for a follow up, the physical went well and that's over with. She wants me to come back in 6 months for follow up blood work, she was having me come back every 3 months. That's not going to happen with the new insurance for sure. Had my dental cleaning this morning and that's done for another 6 months as well. Yippee!! It was worth taking yesterday off of work to get all of those appts. done with.

Laurie, I know what you mean about family problems. My family lives 1200 miles away from me, none of them get along with each other. I made the bad mistake of getting in the middle of it recently and I missed a lot of sleep and it caused a lot of heartache. I have decided to just stay out of it. Life is too short for all of this bickering and not talking to each other in my opinion though.

I finally made our vacation reservations. My dh is taking an entire weeks vacation, that's unheard of for him, all vacations have to evolve around production days at work, but he is finally seeing that everyone else takes a whole week off and they manage just fine without that person, so he has finally decided to do it. Like pulling teeth with him! Our vacations usually go from Wed. through Sunday. This will be strange. We are going to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and hopefully to Dollywood and to Gatlinburg for a few days, on the way home we are stopping in Knoxville that's where he went to college at. Then home to look for a new apt. to move to in Sept. when our lease is up. Keep us in your prayers please. The thought of packing all of this up and moving is so overwhelming.

The weather here was cold and rainy on Friday and Sat. I just ache so bad when the weather is wet and cold and I had a hard time going to sleep. Sunday was just beautiful and so was yesterday. Today is starting out nice but it's supposed to rain this afternoon and then be beautiful the rest of the week. Easter Sunday was so beautiful with all the Dogwoods and Azaleas and everything else blooming. I love Spring and thankfully I'm not too allergic to the pollen.

Still having ant problems, the exterminator is supposed to come out again today, had to take everything out from under the kitchen cabinets again. UGH! Hope this will get rid of them once and for all!

Need to go and get some work done I guess.
Have a nice day everyone.
Shirley

Aw gee, Lynn, that's too bad about your daughter. When our shed was broken in to and things stolen we felt bad enough. The financial loss was minimal, but it did give us a creepy feeling that someone was in our place.

We have a couple more rose bushes that are showing color so they should burst into bloom soon. I SO wanted to work in the yard this morning instead of coming in to work. It's a lovely morning.

I'll chime in here too and say we had a nice Easter - we were invited to my dd (and her brother was going to be there too) as well as their dad (my ex) and her dh side of the family. We opted out of going for the lunch and just went to visit in the afternoon for awhile. So it was nice.

Today was a quiet day til she (the same daughter above) called about 6:30 -- their apt had been broken into while they were at work and their 2 computers, TV, her camera, money and a few other things were taken. They left the Gamestation and Wii but they were moved so perhaps they intended to take them but got scared off.....so now she's worried they might come back. They knocked the entire door off the hinges when they broke the deadlock in...Neighbors must not have been home or just weren't paying any attention b/c no one said they saw anything. Police did dust for fingerprints and she has the serial #s for her camera and computer so they're going to give those to the area pawn shops. I just feel so bad for them. Of course they had no renter's insurance......and it's just so scary - I know it can happen 'anywhere' but I have never liked this apt. complex they moved to in September ....ahhh well, enough of that. Just keep them in your prayers.

I agree I think spring is coming too!!! The tree across the street has just started to bloom and it's always so pretty. Leaves still aren't out much and our 6 or 7 butterfly bushes show NO sign of life (unlike my lilac bush and some others) but the grass is green and dh even cut some of the tall places yesterday so it's a'comin'!!!

Hi you guys. Sounds like many had a good Easter. We had a nice Easter dinner with friends yesterday. The scale tattled on me this morning--I'm hoping some of that is the sodium from the ham. But I'm thinking the baked beans, deviled eggs, and cherry turnovers might have something to do with it, too. It was worth every bite...now back to the grindstone. The weather is still nice enough to go walking at lunch and we got a good walk in. It looked like rain but it managed to hold off until later in the afternoon.

I'm pretty pooped, haven't been sleeping well--family upheaval that I can't do a thing about. But that doesn't stop me from mulling things over in the middle of the night. Ugh.

I'm hoping to be back online more consistently.

Right now it's 30* and foggy, but it's supposed to get up to 65* later on. It's Patriot's Day here, so no work for me. We've planned on a girls day out: long walk and frozen yogurt!

Good Monday morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. We always have an orchestra for Easter. It's a lot of fun to be able to play with them and I had a great time. After church we spent the afternoon with my DIL's family. It was a little bittersweet- we've been going to their house every Easter since Abby and Jake got together. They will be moving up towards Indianapolis this summer so it was the last time celebrating Easter at their home in Floyd's Knobs. It was a fun afternoon though. Josie is walking all over the place now, and had fun looking for eggs (filled with the puffs she likes rather than candy).
The weather here has been absolutely beautiful. Cool overnight with highs reaching around 80 in the afternoon. We had a hard frost last Wed. I'm hoping that was the last of the freezes. I'd like to get some flowers going.
I had to laugh at the story of the baby ducks all lined up at the door. I guess Mama duck feels safe having her babies in the yard.

50 points! What a great Easter surprise! Both church services were great, and I didn't cry, wuch a huge change from last year... Plus, our 'roomie', Brenda, made dinner for us. Pot roast, which I never make because I don't know how. Yum! Hope everyone is having as good a day as I am!

I have been getting a lot of headaches, too... Might be the weather, might be the stress. And I didn't get my nap today, as we were out walking most of the afternoon. Still, it was a good day.

Gods afternoon all, yes I have been thinking about my Mom today too. My first Easter without her. Even though we did not live in the same city there was still the contact....the card picked out a few weeks in advance, the phone call, her presence at a family members doe Easter dinner. Of course there are many thoughts of times gone by and my celebrations with her. They are good memories....
It is a chilly, miserable windy day here. I wanted to so some cleaning on our patio but the thoughts of turning on the hose just doesn't work. I will wait for a nicer day. No one will ne going out there tomorrow anyway with weather like this.
I hope you all have a lively Easter

25 points for the team today!

Becca, remembering the good things she did for you is the best way to thank her.

Laurie, I've had a 'cold' hanging around for a couple of weeks now - I think it's the pollen from the rapeseed in the fields around the area. Sore throat, watering eyes, sneezing etc.

Lynn--eat something cute--lol!

Becca, I think anniversaries like this one make us more introspective, especially as time passes. Thoughts of your mom will be cherished and the hard edges of grief will soften. I too grew up in a more innocent and sheltered time, tucked away in a small town in northeastern Wisconsin. Times have certainly changed and we surly do hear a lot more of the bad stuff in the media--over and over and over.

My parents had a Buick with giant fins in the early 60s. Still remember that big boat! I can't imagine what a gas hog that thing might have been (back in the days of 25 cent/gallon gas).

Woke up with a headache this morning and have been resisting taking something. Too many headaches lately, wonder if it's the pollen. I think if I'm going to be productive I'm going to have to give in, though. We have some running around to do today, then have to finish putting stuff away. I'd love to get out in the yard for a little while, but I think we'll run out of time.

If I don't get back on SP today, I' wish you all a Happy Easter celebration!

Laurie

Today is the 1-yr anniversary of my momís death. Iím not as sad about it as I thought it would be. I think Iím starting to put the anger behind me and so am able to focus more on who she was as a person and how much she did for us girls, even if we didnít realize how hard she was working for us at the time. Does that make any sense? I always tell people that I grew up a totally innocent child, in the sense that I didnít have a grasp on the horrors of the world. I didnít know that there were child molesters or men who drank away their whole paychecks instead of using the money to support their families or folks who got so mad at their spouses that they killed them. And if I did hear about someone who raped or killed, it was always put down as a Ďdifferentí class of people; normal folks didnít do stuff like that, so I never felt threatened. I know it was a more innocent time ~ news didnít spread like wildfire as it does in this day of Facebook and Instagram and 24-hr news stations. My boys are and were a lot more aware of dangers than I ever was. I know a lot of that shielding came from my mom, and it must have taken a lot for her to protect us as she did. (Boy, where did all THAT come from this lovely morning?)

Hi all. Well there were sure a lot of posts today. Thanks for the explanation Bethan. That sounds so cute......pics would be wonderful.
Becca, I use to do kickboxing classes and they were a wonderful workout. Not sure if I could do it with my new knee though.
It has been a very busy day here and this is the first chance to sit and do Spark. Glad to have a chance to just veg.....

Bethan - that is the cutest thing ever!!! Thanks for explaining and yes we would have loved to see pictures!! Guess I thought it was just 'inborn' in them to take their ducklings to the water...obviously not!!

Wow, Becca - kickboxing I am impressed!! You'd have to get the crane to get me out of bed the next day but I'm proud of you!!!

Maryann - glad to hear the job report....I think it'd be neat if you could work at the college though...but then again your dd will be done next year and moving on to something else most likely...

Yeah I think 'practical' is men's logic through and through....I mean only a woman would think the color has something to do with it!! LOL

Very tired - worked in my dd classroom all day and while it was fun it is tiring to be around a bunch of 6-7 y.o. all day!!! Plus the drive down and then home in rushhour traffic doesn't help either - it'll be an early nite to bed for me I"m sure!

Hope everyone has a great weekend - I'm excited - dh said he'd go to my A-zumba class tomorrow with me - now we'll see if he actually do it!!

Shirley - take pictures of the blooms - I'd love to see them!!

Hey Cheryl -- yep Buicks are a workhorse in my book -- so old people are not I much prefer them although I am very happy with the malibus I've had.

Well, hello! For Donna and Meme I must explain;

We live in a fairly rural area I suppose, we're near a river anyway which has hundreds of ducks. Each year we have some come and nest in our garden and, in time, the ducklings hatch and are ready to leave. Well, Mum duck is not very bright and doesn't seem to realise that while she can fly in and out of the garden over the wall, the newly hatched ducklings cannot! So she lines them all up and marches them to our back door (actually in the car port) and waits for us to open it and we show her the way to the river which is just at the back of us. If I had known you'd be interested, I'd have taken a snap! We have these ducks each year and we no longer bother to photograph them!

We're visiting friends for Easter lunch and I understand that lamb is on the menu. Yum! I shall be glad of a rest. I've been very good at all the Holy Week observances and am now exhausted and all 'churched out'!!

It's become very cold today, after weeks of sunny and warm, it's now dull and cold! Just in time for Easter day, which, we're told will bring heavy rain! Ugh. Shame. I hope you all enjoy good weather and lovely Easter visits with family.

Ironing..... NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! (Well, only when I sew)

Lynn, I have a silver Malibu Maxx! Hahaha.... First Chevy I've ever had. I bought an old Buick Century for my kids to drive many years ago. Funny thing is, they never sold it(after each got a different vehicle). My son's truck is having issues right now, so what's he driving??? The Buick! (or as they call it, the "old peoples" car.

Good for you, Becca... doing kickboxing. I used to teach and study karate. Absolutely loved it! Best workouts I ever had, without it feeling like a workout. I used to train 6 days a week, and was in the best shape of my life... but then life/work got in the way. Don't think it would work so well with my knee replacement, but prior to that it kept my knee strong and gave me a few extra years on it.

Maryann, that sounds like great news on the job front. Hope it all works out for you.

Shirley, hope you are able to move this summer. I don't know how you cope with all the water shut offs. I don't think I could handle it. I really give you a lot of credit! They put us on that 10 hr. 4 day week before ( I hated it!). It really wore us out, and then they usually threw in an extra 8 hour day on top of it. I certainly don't envy you...... Working 8 hrs. a day after that seemed like a really short day (but not anymore).

Laurie, glad you got your painting done... now to put everything back together. I'm the one that does all the painting in my house. I worked for the county for a couple summers during college, painting (and doing other building maintenance). I learned some useful things at that job!

I don't think there will be any Easter dinner at our house this year. My daughter is moving into a new apt., so she won't be coming home.... my husband will be working, and I have to work that night. Oh well.... means no extra cooking for me. I good with that! I might have to be naughty though, and pick up a little Easter chocolate... just to get me through the night at work. Hahaha! At least it will be dark chocolate.

Well, it's supposed to be nice this weekend, so maybe I'll get out in the yard and get started on some of the clean up. I didn't get it all done before the snow started falling....... once it started, it never stopped. My hyacinths are poking out, working on trying to bloom. Maybe spring is really a possibility?

Hi everyone!

Kickboxing Becca! Wow, I'm impressed. Wish I had your energy. I just spent $200.00 on new walking shoes and I am not happy with them. Thankfully they told me to take them home and wear them for a couple of weeks and if I don't like them I can take them back. Knowing how uncomfortable they are and they also make my knees hurt doesn't motivate me in the least to put them on. I have such hard to fit feet, it's just so frustrating.

What great news Maryann on your offer of a job! I'm so happy for you, what a relief you don't have to start over from scratch - applying, interviewing and waiting. Been there, done that and I don't want to do it again. I was RIFed (reduction in force) from this job a few years back for 14 months. Then they called and told me two people were retiring and did I want my job back? I was like are you kidding me? Anyway, I had to reapply, re-interview and start over like I had never worked in this department before. I know why they did it but it was just crazy to have to interview for the job that was mine. Thankfully the county gave me back all my years. I'm happy to be back and although I don't like the 10 hour days in the summer or the 7 furlough days every year and the reduction in my pay, I'm happy to be back in this job where there is little stress and none of the office drama like most places. Over 400 applications were turned in for my job. I was shocked. But it was during the time that everyone was without a job. I don't take my job for granted anymore that's for sure.

As for the 10 hour days, first they said we were, then the rumor was going around that the new superintendent didn't like it and we weren't and then on Tuesday it was announced that we were. This is 3 summers in a row. My usual hours are from 7:30 to 4:30 with an hour for lunch. During the summer we get 30 mins. but then that adds on 30 mins. to my day. I'm thinking if my boss will allow it working from 7:00 to 5:00 and not taking a lunch break. The other two secretaries are coming in at 6:30 to 4:30. They are not required to give us breaks in the state of Georgia. So no breaks, although our boss doesn't believe in that. She lets us take breaks, get up and walk around. Last year I started going out and walking around in the parking lot for 10 mins. just to wake up and get the circulation moving. The problem with during the summer is I have nothing to do. Most of my day revolves around teacher needs and when they're not here there's nothing to do. So it's a pretty boring 10 very long hours! I have vacation days and plan on leaving early two days a week, I think we all are. Thankfully it's only for 8 weeks and the first week I will be on vacation. I think the week of the Fourth of July we work normal hours which is really nice!

Ironing, I hate to iron! My mom loves to iron, she finds it relaxing. I think she's crazy. I do have an ironing board. I have a few pairs of capris and a blouse during the summer that have to be pressed, but that's it. My dh takes his dress shirts to the cleaners and I'm grateful for that. I'm thankful for wash and wear clothes.

Jane, glad your dh is doing well and I hope this antibiotic takes care of that infection. My dh's name is Tom too!

My boss is out today with the same stomach bug I had. Plus she has a really bad cold. I guess her boss wasn't feeling so great yesterday either. That's what happens when people come to work sick. We decided it wasn't such a bad thing for her to be off today, she works 10-12 hour days everyday. If she stays home we know she's really sick!

Yes, Laurie we are going to Helen on Sunday. I'm looking forward to it plus I don't have to cook dinner which I really didn't want to do. Just not fun cooking for 2 people! Everything is blooming in Georgia right now, all the dogwoods and azaleas and everything else. Last week everything was that lovely shade of yellow, this week has been much better. We had some major rain on Monday and expecting more today and tomorrow. Easter Sunday is supposed to be beautiful for once! I was trying to remember if I have ever been to Helen in the spring before. I can't remember. I'm excited to see my son again!

Guess I should be moving on and seeing what I can get done. Fridays are our quiet days. This has been a long week with long days we decided. I didn't think yesterday was ever going to end.

Have a great Easter everyone! emoticon

A bit sore from the kickboxing yesterday, but it's Friday, the sun is shining, and I know I won't have a problem getting in my 6K steps today...

Donna: I don't own anything that needs to be ironed. We do have one, which we bought when the boys were in Scouts and needed the wrinkles taken out of the shirts they tossed onto the floor when they took them off. But I'm not even sure where the iron is anymore ~ probably somewhere in the basement!

Jane: thanks for the heads-up on gray cars. I've never had one before, as all my others were green (my fave!) or blue.

Laurie: we're having lamb if I can find some on sale. We're both tired of ham, as we had it at Christmas, and sometime in January.

Maryann: sounds like it's good news on the job front! Wish you luck...

Lynn: your hubby sounds like mine: always looking at the practical.

Lynn, I knew there was a reason I liked you so much --- a gal after my own heart ..... I hate ironing as well. As a matter of fact - I think I'm the only person that can put wrinkles into a garment!!! John may be right --- maybe Malibu is your car!

Becca, good luck with the car!!! We only buy used vehicles - mostly because brand new cars are so costly.

Laurie, glad your sister arrived home safely. Sounds like you had a great visit!!

Snow - yup we got it to. About an inch. I'm watching the news and someone sent in a picture of their neighbor cutting the snow covered grass! Gotta love his attitude - lol!

Shirley, I wish you luck on your new summer work schedule. Will you get a couple of breaks plus lunch? I'd need it just to take a power nap - lol! I have to do the split visits for my physicals as well. It is really annoying - I live 40 minutes from my doctor. Such a hassle.

I haven't even thought about Easter!!! I better get myself in gear or we may be having hot dogs!!

Bethan, so how is it that you had 14 ducklings? Do you live on a farm or in a rural area? Love to hear the story about the ducklings!

Donna, hope you had a nice visit with your friend. A co-worker just went to the hospital to see her friend who just had a double mastectomy. The woman had a bag of rose colored wrist bands made up that say "Save the Rack" and she's selling them to make money to help get more awareness about breast cancer out there. What a sense of humor!

Jane, glad Tom's infection isn't more serious. Hope he's feeling better. You got a great deal on the green beans an asparagus. I had a silver Neon and I loved it so much. I tended to zip around a lot more than I do in my jeep - LOL, which is red by the way!

So .... you all know the drama that exists with me and my job. Well, I applied for a job at the local community college and I had to take a three hour test consisting of 8 individual timed tests. Holy smokes!!!! I was exhausted after that - lol. Haven't heard anything as of yet. I was approached today to work for another department within our organization. I about fell out of my chair! Good thing I worked from home today --- nasty sore throat --- cause I was blown away. One of the woman (Leslie) accepted a a position with the company near her home and another woman (Lydia) from that department suggested I fill in a part time basis -- learning the job -- and then when it's posted - I can apply and will have a full time gig WITH benefits!!! They are a great group of ladies and it feels wonderful knowing I'll have a job and won't have to stress over interviews!

Well, time for bed. Take care everyone!!

Maryann

Good evening --

Ironing - oh my what decade was it I last did that??!! I hate ironing. I ironed alot for my mom way back when - dad's boxers, sheets, dishtowels, clothes everything that wasn't nailed down I think....so now it is far and few between before I take on that task! Don't even own an ironing board anymore - just the iron and a table! So kudos to you Donna!!

Car sounds really nice Becca - but I kind of have to agree w/ Jane - I had a Chevy Malibu - silver - for 6 weeks b/f a city truck pulled right out in front of me and wham....that totaled that car!! Then I got a champagne gold malibu and 5 years later my carpool mate and I went sliding down an icy patch of snow and that car was also totaled.....so then I debated whether to get another Malibu (b/c I'd always been a Buick girl too) But as dh said to me "You've been in 2 bad car wrecks are you're still here...maybe it's BECAUSE they were malibus!" ...Hmmm, good male-thinking hubby! SOOooo in my female mind I thought "OK they were both light colored cars - so I'll look for another malibu - only this time it will be a DARK colored one!!" So my car is navy blue!! Works for me anyway - but we still laugh about our male/female logic!

Going down to my dd classroom tomorrow to spend the day helping....then home. She's invited us down for Easter but I"m almost inclined just to stay home...

I love dogwood trees and azaleas....bet they are very pretty there now.I have a late blooming dogwood in my backyard (white blossoms) but it doesn't bloom til June - which is late for a dogwood.

Shirley I hope you get to move too....I'd not having to put up with all the stuff you've had to in your apt. I kind of agree w/ Donna - having a 3 day weekend is almost worth the longer day. But I"m not in your shoes so what do I know?? I thought they'd decided NOT to do that but then wait they're a school corp....change their minds w/ the wind!, don't they??!!!

I have a room I'd like to paint Laurie but it's that moving stuff around and putting it back that I hate....so for now it'll just stay apple green! Glad you could have your sister come help you - makes the job more interesting and fun to do it with someone. Years ago my late dh and I had a 'painting party" Good idea - it was fun...I fixed supper and all....BUT we should probably not have served liquor too -- Those darned switchplates and plugin plates got painted as well!!! LOL.....But hey we got 4 rooms done in one nite though anyway!

Well I'd better head to bed....and yes Bethan I want to hear about the ducklings as well...

Well, my sister is back in Michigan and we sure do miss having her here. It's awfully quiet. We still have to put the house back together. Maybe tomorrow we can get the stuff back up on the walls.

Donna, I bet you are glad to be home, but it sure takes a while to get settled back in, doesn't it?

Shirley, heading to Helen? Hope it's pretty up there. Dogwoods should be in bloom now, right? Azaleas, too, maybe. I missed watching the Masters last weekend so I don't know how the azalea bloom is in Georgia right now.

Becca--400 days! emoticon

Jane, my friend is bringing the ham and a broccoli salad with them on Sunday so we don't need to do that, anyway. We've already done the baked beans (have to get them out of the freezer tomorrow) and I have to make the cherry filling for the cherry turnovers. Mom is making deviled eggs on Sunday. Need to come up with potatoes. Maybe baked wedges with herbs. That sounds good to me!

Well, gotta shut down and veg out for a while. I feel like I'm going to start drooling on my keyboard.

Easter ham is in the oven - why wait when it's just the two of us & three cats? This way, I shouldn't have to worry about dinner for a while as it will be some version of ham.

I went to Kroger about 4:30 to turn in Tom's antibiotic prescription. The sample from the infected spot came back as negative for anything really nasty so it's the same antibiotic as he's been taking. I wandered around the store until it was ready to pick up and found green beans at 99Ę a lb and one nice bunch of asparagus at $1.99 a lb.

Becca, I'm glad to hear that you like your new car, but I learned when I had a grey/silver Chevette back in the 80s that grey cars tend to blend in with the pavement. I lost track of how many time people pulled out in front of me if I didn't have the lights on. When I got my IQ two years ago, I insisted on ordering it in Hot Lava as that's hard to miss out on the road. The other colors were dark & dingy and I was afraid that as small as the IQ is that people wouldn't see it. There's a photo of the car in the photos section - it's hard to miss.. {g}

Grey is a great colour. It never looks dirty!!! today was ironing day and I had a pile but it is done. I don't usually iron very much but I think DH saved everything from our trip. So now I still have some housework to catch up on then I should almost be back to normal.
Becca no candy for Easter is a good thing. I bought a very small egg with some chocolate in it that is just enough for a taste for the five of us on Sunday. I chocolate is about the size of a quarter so that will be fine. Lamb is on the menu and I am looking forward to that.
Hope you all have a warm weekend.

Today was Day 400 of my exercise streak!!

Due to our weight-loss competition, Andy & I have agreed to not buy any Easter candy this year. And I'll have to let Ed know, so he doesn't surprise me...

Shirley: this is the newest car I've ever owned, too. It drives so easily, I feel like I'm floating. And it's gray, which is a good color for me.

Ok Bethan, you have to explain what you meant about taking the chicks to the river......!!!!
Shirley, you sure are not alone as far as the weather is concerned. I think the whole world is cool except the south west US. We have a rainy cool day here today. I was suppose to golf but I think I will pass. I am just not ready for that yet. I don't even have my golf stuff organized since our trip home.
Shirley I know you dislike your summer schedule but having three days off has to be a bonus. I agree, when you have nothing to do sitting around an office must be extremely boring. I would be thinking of all the things I could be doing that would be much more productive. I guess the plus here is they don't lay anyone off for the summer. I hope you have great success looking for a new place.
Today I am tackling a massive load of ironing, doing some housework, then hopefully off to visit a friend who has been going through chemo this winter. If I don't see her today I will go tomorrow.
I hope you all have a good day...

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope for all of you that got snow that it's gone by now. It's been cold down here in Georgia. The low yesterday was 32! That's cold for here this late in April. People in my apt. building had already turned on their air last week and then had to switch back on the heat. This is the craziest weather in the world.

Back to work, what a week! On Tuesday it was officially announced that we will be working 10 hour - 4 day workweeks this summer. You should have heard the groaning in our office! None of us are happy at all. If possible I'm thinking about coming in at 7 and leaving at 5. I think I could handle that and not take lunch (we eat at our desks) It just makes for a really really long day and especially when there is nothing to do. I decided though it may be good because if we do get to move in Sept. I will have Fridays in July to pack boxes. Thankfully we go back to a normal workday in August. I look around the apartment at all the clutter and stuff we have accumulated and just groan, this is going to be a major undertaking. I hate living in chaos. Just my scrap booking area alone is going to be a nightmare to pack. Oh Well! I just want to move somewhere where the gates all work everyday and they aren't constantly turning off our water to fix a water pipe. Yes, the water was turned off again yesterday and last week on Wed. and they still haven't finished. It didn't even look like they had done a single thing to the pipes to our buildings yesterday.

Is everyone ready for Easter? We are going to church on Sat. night, and meeting my ds, his fiancť, and her parents up in a small tourist town in the Mountains. I bet Laurie knows where I'm talking about! I'm excited to see them and get a hug from my son, I haven't seen him since Christmas Day.

Taking Monday off of work. It was just easier to take the whole day off since my Dr. has to do split appts. I will be talking to her about that. It's so inconvenient. I have a mammogram first, then run to the Dr. and get blood work done, meeting a friend for lunch, maybe I can talk her into doing some window shopping or something and goof around until 3:30 when my physical is. I really don't want to run home and then back out there again. It's at least a 30 min. drive each way from my house to her office.

Becca, congratulations on your new car! I hope you get lots of good years out of it. I have a 2010 Ford Focus. It's the newest I have ever owned and I have already had to put 4 new tires on it and a new battery! It was a leased car and had less then 20,000 miles on it when I bought it. My dh has a 2007 Toyota. Mine is black, it was not the color I wanted at all but I got it for a good price so I couldn't be choosy. Lately it has looked yellow and matches everyone else's car in Georgia right now. Wow, the pollen has been sooo bad. Thankfully it doesn't bother me too much.

Hope everyone is doing well!
Shirley

God morning. I hope all is well with you all and that you're all set for Easter! emoticon We had 14 ducklings hatch last week and took them all to the river. I don't suppose there's many of them left now :(

Becca, my mom's car is a 2002 Impala. I drive it more than she does--it's very nice (especially compared to my 97 Ford truck with broken a/c). And comfortable for long trips.

I've just been hit-and-run on SP lately. Seems like life has been flying at me at light speed lately. My sister leaves today. I have to get out of work early, eat dinner, get her out to the airport, then we have worship team practice at church. Audiologist tomorrow, play for Good Friday service on Friday, and we are hosting friends for Easter on Sunday. Whew! The house isn't all put together after painting yet, either. We have to wait a week to get things up on the walls so they don't get stuck to them. I sure hope things slow down after this weekend.

Back to work...

Can you believe I woke up to snow this morning? Ed actually called me and told me that there were trucks and cars off the road all over the place, and not to worry because it wasn't him. That was when I looked out the window and realized it had snowed overnight...

Ready to refresh my mental attitude. The taxes will be sent in late, as the preparer didn't get them done on time, even tho' she had all our paperwork. But it's out of my hands, so I need to stop stressing over it. Drove down to Carver last night and picked up my 'new' car. It rides really nice, and now we won't have to keep shuffling cars to make sure we all get where we need to go. So that is another big load off my shoulders.

I have a work meeting this afternoon, but also need to find some time to get exercise in. Haven't been to the gym in almost a week, but there are plenty of options on SP to get my body moving...

Lynn: it's a grey 2003 Chevy Impala, and it's in great condition. My last 3 cars were Buicks, so I figured I would stay with them forever as I'm very comfortable with the way they handle. But sometimes, minor emergencies, like Nick's car kicking the bucket, makes us pave the way for new things. The old guy who owned it took very good care of it, and it came to us at just the right time. This guy is a neighbor of my BFF's mother, and didn't decide until recently that he didn't need this 2nd vehicle, just when we were starting to get desparate about finding a car we could afford.

Donna - I agree - we don't need to break any of those kinds of records (for snow!) We just had a dusting this morning but the temps were very cold here too as well.Tomorrow is supposed to be even worse than today (early AM) but then we start slowly going back up.

Made it to A-zumba tonite -- always feels good and more people are starting to come out for it. I ordered an elevated raised garden veg-truk -today....Have no idea when it'll be delivered but I intend to start growing herbs in it at first....might even put my tomato plants in it this year since I had NO luck last year w/ my 2 plants. I can't bend over anymore and I want to get into cooking with more herbs so this is my answer to it. Shouldn't tell you what dh had to say about it - "OH you cook??" LOL, gotta love that man!

Becca - what kind of car did you get?? Hope you're feeling better!

I've just been overly tired the last couple of days....taken naps each day plus sleeping all nite! Guess my colonoscopy took more out of me than I thought....

Going to Indy on Friday to help in my dd classroom .I'm taking a treat for the kids - can't take homemade ones (school won't allow them) so I went to the baker and asked them to make individually wrapped Easter cookies for each child) Plus I think I"ll go to the dollar store and see if I can find any Easter pencils....then I'll be done!

Have a great evening everyone!

Jane those kind of records we don't need!!! I hope it melts fast and a real spring is just around the corner.
Becca hope you have a wonderful day!!!
I am off to some grocery shopping this morning then home to start this massive pile of laundry. I think DH saved it all up from before our trip home!!!
We decided yesterday that I would be hosting the Easter dinner. There will only be five of us but I think that is all I can handle right now. Still to much cleaning and organizing to catch up on.
So I am off to start my day. Have a good one!!!

April Fools came late this year - we had about 3" of snow overnight! Looks more like January out there than April. The temperature is only 24į with tonight's low predicted to be 16į. The total snow fall record set in 1880-81 was broken with this latest storm. The new record is 94.8"..

Glad you're getting settled in again, Donna!
Tired today... had a long (but fun) weekend. After work Friday morning, I got together with a friend I used to work with. She is now driving a semi.... I hadn't seen her in months. We spent the day running around town, taking care of errands and just having fun. Started at 8:30am and didn't stop until 7:30pm. I was tired (after working the night before... no sleep in between). I was up for about 32+ hours, but wouldn't trade it for anything. We had so much fun.... lots of silliness. Got together again on Sat. for a little more running around. Then went out to eat with my kids and husband, and then met up with some other friends for more fun (my husband only stayed for a little while... he had to work in the morning). Not enough rest on Sunday, but I'll take it... too much fun! I have to try to get some sleep this week.
They are predicting snow for us tonight......... CRAZY!

Jane, don't worry if your husband doesn't go into a cast. The boot can serve the same function, but it least it breathes...... and, you can open it up every so often. Hope his healing goes well!

Hi all. Thanks for explaining the uff da phrase......love it's,,, Jane glad to hear your DH's appointment went well. Maybe he won't even be put in a cast. Shirley glad to hear your DH is feeling better too. Poor guy was really sick. And Becca you are on the mend too. I guess we all have those down days. Maybe it is just forcing us to slow down for awhile!!!
We Re getting back to normal. I still have lots to do but at least it is a semblance of normal. Went out and got some freggies today. I sure don't like when I don't have a variety of fresh produce in the fridge. I will tell you groceries are sure a lot more expensive that in California.
Hope you all have a good evening

Shirley: maybe the change of the seasons is what affected me so badly on Saturday. Didn't get to the auto ins office to get my 'new' car insured/registered, as I realized the paperwork is still in Ed's car. That is how 'out of it' I was by the time we got home that day...

Lynn, Laurie is correct.. Uff da! is a Norwegian expression - the equivalent of Oy Vey! .. Tom is from North Dakota and his Mom taught me how useful Uff Da could be - it just depends on your tone of voice {g} Marie even sent me a plastic needlepoint bookmark with the phrase on it.

We were able to get to the surgeon's office ok. Left early because we were afraid that there might be traffic lights out along the way but the only ones we ran into were in the village which had been set up as a 4 way stop & then down by the hospital where the light was blinking red - neither delayed us. They took the stitches out & replaced them with steri-strips and left him in the boot rather than putting a cast on. We go back in two weeks to check it. Because the pin site on the instep is still oozing, they took a couple swabs to culture and he's still on antibiotics.

Becca, I hope whatever you have is not the flu. I know several people who got their shot this year and have still come down with a bug that kept them down and out for almost a week. Take good care of yourself!!

Shirley, thanks for the prayers. I'm glad that your DH is getting back to normal. I had to smile about him cracking jokes as Tom is the same way. I kid him that his come-on line before we got married was "Come with me, baby, I'll make you laugh!!"

We got a look as some of the damage here in the village on the news last night. The area over by the post-office and the strip mall with Kroger got some of the worst of it. Electric poles & trees down. There's a restaurant just north of Kroger where the electric lines came down over the customers' cars so they had to be evacuated while leaving the cars there. At least one Hummer had a electric pole on top of it. Driving down the St. Joe, there were a number of trees down here & there and places here in the village were closed for the most part. The sun is shining now but it's chilly - only 56į and snow forecast for tonight & tomorrow! If it's very heavy, we may break the record total snow fall of 93.6" as we already have 91.7".

In other news, I joined the Stress Busting Challenge yesterday as my stress level could use a little busting at the moment.

Lynn, "Uff da" comes from the land of Ole and Sven--Norway! And no uff da for you--great news from the "poop" doc!

I heard Wisc. got snow today. Will your winter never end? My sister is really, really enjoying our southern weather, though today it feels more like January...cold front blasted through. But we should be back up into 60s and 70s tomorrow and beyond.

Today I'm frantically catching up with the disasters d'jour from when I was off painting. Blegh!

Jane, just wanted to let you know that I am praying for good news today for your dh. I really hope things are mending well. When I broke my leg in my 40's so bad it took forever for those bones to mend. I sure would hate to have a broken bone now.

I didn't sleep well Sat. night or last night. Having major Restless Leg Syndrome problems. I have noticed that every time the seasons change I go through a really bad time and then it settles down again. I hope it's over with soon. I hate it. I slept most of Sunday and then couldn't sleep last night, seems like I never sleep before I have to go back to work after break. Everyone in my office is talking about their wonderful spring breaks and I have my sad story.

For the first time in an entire week my dh was finally back to normal yesterday. He was cracking jokes and made me laugh so hard yesterday. I was thinking Yay! my husband is back! He was one sick guy for sure.

I actually left the house on Friday and went and got a manicure/pedicure Decided I needed to have a day to do what I wanted and a little pampering. It sure felt good. I've been going to the same shop for about 15 years. It's a mom and her sons mostly who run it and she is so busy that she has hired a few other people too. Her sons are so sweet, she has 4 or 5 sons and I think they have all worked in the shop at one time or another. I realized Friday that I have watched these boys grow up.

Back to work, no air of course. Nothing unusual for this place!

Guess I will go and see what I can find to do. Not much since the software or whatever it is I use everyday is being updated and I can't use it again until after Wednesday. I'd rather be busy.

Hope everyone has a great day.
Shirley

Good morning, all! I'm ready to start another week; lots to get done, but I'm mentally picturing keeping the pressure under control, so there won't be any endless snacking to deal with.

Nope, not the 'flu, which I don't think I can get anyway since I get the shot every year. Just every once in a while I get a day when I'm so tired, I can't function. Usually doesn't happen on a weekend, which I have a lot planned. If it's during the week, I can just do my 4 hours at work, then spend the rest of the day in bed, sleeping it off. I'm not supposed to be having hormonal changes anymore, but it does seem to run in a cycle.

Jane - and what language is "Uff da"....that just made me smile!! LOL...I agree with Donna hope your appt. goes well tomorrow. Don't need any setbacks now! I've heard the storms in Michigan were pretty strong...all we got were some sprinkles. Our warm weather is coming to an end tonite...at least til later in the week or the weekend. Hopefully nice for everyone for Easter! We might go to my youngest dd since we were invited...we usually go to my late dh family for holidays but with what my oldest dd and I are going through - I think it's best I just stay away for awhile anyway.

Hi Cheryl - 29 huh?? but that is a fun thing to do for sure!

All of you with your big spins for the team - I got 1 today!!!!!

Becca hope you feel better soon - yeah it does sound like the flu - but hopefully leaves quickly!!!

Oh I almost forgot - got a phone call from the gastroenterologist office late Friday aft....my biopsy from the colonoscopy was benign...only the 2 small polyps so now I can wait FIVE years til my next one!! WOOHOO for sure....although right after I hung up I told dh with my family history of colon cancer (4 family members) maybe that's too long!!!!! LOL...But I also know my dr. knows that and the nurse assured me it would be fine...but that if I notice any changes just to call them....now on to the next thing...whatever that is...

20 pts. on the wheel!

Went out for a really fun birthday celebration last night.... lots of dancing and giggling! It's good to be 29 again.....

Jane, I never got to go into a cast.... had to stay in the boot. The incisions looked really ugly, but there was no infection.... just "fever blisters" from all the swelling. Hope Tom heals up well!

Jane, that storm sounds scary. It is a good thing you have a generator as your power sure goes out a lot. I don't imagine it would be good for your DH to get to chilled. It is a good thing you are going to the doctor tomorrow. Janis let does. It sound good. What a terrible fracture!!!
I hope you are feeling better tomorrow. You both are having a hard time right now.
Becca, hope your headache is better today. Sounds like a touch of the flu!!!
I have spent most of the day unpacking and organizing. Trying to remember where everything goes is a challenge. Anyway it is getting done. It is so good to be home!!!
Have a good day all.....

Uff da!! What a night.. We were hit by a fast moving storm around 7:30 last night. It hailed so hard that the yard looked like it was covered with snow and the wind brought down trees in the village and took the roof off of one house. Then the power went out which isn't usually a problem because we have a natural gas generator - except it didn't come on. Finally, I went out & unlocked the end door to the controls and flipped a couple switches & circuit breakers which was enough to get it to turn on. Here it is 10:00 a.m. and the power is still out and the DTE outage map hasn't changed a bit. There are over 6600 customers in our zip code alone that don't have power. Still, it wasn't as bad as the night when Tom was in the hospital when the power here went out and when it came back, the transfer switch on the generator was stuck. First technician checked the power outside the house and left with me still in the dark. Second time, he came in & flipped a couple of the inside switches for the generator & that reset the transfer switch.

Another appointment at the surgeon's office tomorrow morning. The home nurse was here again on Friday, but when I changed the bandages on his ankle last night there was more green pus so I'm doubtful that he'll be out of the boot & into a cast for a while yet. Hopefully, while all this is going on, the bones are knitting together. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. It was a month on the 9th since he fell & fractured it.

In the meantime, I have a catch in my back (oh joy) that doesn't seem to want to work out plus, with this weather, my knees are aching tho' not as bad as pre-TKR and the IT band is doing it's thing again. Tomorrow is supposed to be stormy so I suspect that I'l ache even more.

Lynn, I don't dare have oyster crackers in the house - I nibble far too frequently if I have them.

Had a really bad day yesterday ~ low grade headache and extreme tiredness all day. I'm not sure what was going on, but I wasn't much good for anything... Hopefully, today will be better. Looking forward to church, not so much the meeting afterwards.
