Thanks for you reply, Karen. I'll be exactly 2 months post-op next Sunday. I would get up several times a night for the bathroom, but could always sleep in between. Not since I left the hospital. I'm going to ask him Thursday if this is normal. It's as if with your leg relaxed, there is more pull or movement inside the knee when you adjust your position or something....Take a pain pill an hour before bedtime and see if it helps you like it does me....

Joan :)

Joan, I get those pains at night. I'm not quite 2 weeks post op, so I was hoping they'd eventually go away. I dread going to bed at night. I actually slept from 3:30-6:45 this morning, the longest stretch of sleep I've had. I'm normally up at least once every one or two hours.

Had a fairly good sleep last night. Only because of the few pain pills I have left. I'm going to be up a creek when I run out. I see the surgeon this Thursday for routine post op x-rays. I pray I can get a refill. It's like a "stabbing knee cramp" I keep getting in my post-op knee but only at night when I'm laying in bed. . I wonder, Irene, if you get them off and on too? Wonder if anyone else has experienced them as well?? I'd like to know how long they go on after the surgery.

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Joan :)

Had an awesome sleep last night and feel so good this morning. The sun will be shining today and possibly I will be able to wear shorts. WHOO HOO!! I know some of you are in hot weather but it is slow coming here. We have had some nice days but then the rain showed up again. Off to the gym this morning, then I think we will go visit a friend who had a TKR'S on Wednesday and see how he is doing. Our nephew gets in around 9 tonight so we will be out around our bedtime!!!!
Have a good day everyone!

Carolyn, yes I take PT twice a week. Yesterday when I went out to get my hair fixed my knee felt so good I left the walker in the car. In the night both knees started paining me very bad. I think it might be the humidity. The weather is crazy here.
How are you doing. I am so proud of you and your service in Africa. Now it is time to take care of Carolyn. Sometimes we take care of others and forget about ourselves

Irene... how's your knee. Are you still taking PT? You are definitely not an orphan. You're a child of the KING!

I'm headed to church this morning at the small town of Kanda. I had been alternating between church in Kanda and church in Nzoundou but the road to Nzoundou is very bad and I'll not be making that trip until they get that road fixed. I did have someone else driving to Nzoundou but she's going to the States for five months and the bad road is too hard for me to drive with my left knee that does not bend well and since my truck is not an automatic and I need to use the clutch. The road is a dirt/mud road (I live on the equator in Africa).

Have a good day everyone.

Got a new icon ~ maybe we can get a new thread started? Please?

Took them all morning, but the guys finally got the brakes fixed on Nick's 'new' car. He got frustrated more than once, but I finally told him that I will NOT be driving him to school on Monday, as I have been doing all week, so he needs to get the work done. All the extra driving has wrecked havoc on my right knee, and now I can barely walk. The pain woke me up more than once last night...

Karen: I'm not a back sleeper, either, but I had to do it when I had my reduction surgery a few years ago. You do eventually get used to it.

Lynn: your dogs sound like MY kids! LOL!!

Good afternoon!

Karen - so good to hear from you!! It does take awhile to learn a comfortable spot in which to sleep! I am a left side sleeper mostly and so when it was my left knee I had a harder time but I kind of did a 'split' in bed - with pillow where I had my right knee behind me with a pillow under it and then over the left knee to protect it -- kind of 'weaved'....And yes my dh too said I moaned alot when I tried to turn or move.

Maryann - glad to hear you're better! You have had a time of it!

Laurie -- you are the busiest bee!! The only thing I know about San Antonio - other than my dh used to live there years ago after he got out of the service -- is that they have a canal walk! We have a canal walk in Indianapolis and I LOVE it. In the spring/summer it has the prettiest blooms of flowers and is just gorgeous. You can rent paddleboats and you could even get a gondola ride if you wanted. Might have to make a trip there this summer!! Hmmm, wonder what letter of the alphabet I could use for that trip? "C" perhaps for canal??

Becca - thanks for sharing your adventure trip idea...that is a good idea!

Hey Cheryl -- you'll have to post pics of that kitty!!! I love kittens....but then they grow up to be cats! You're lucky the older one accepted the young one so well. I've told you all before we have 2 dogs - one mine and one dh....well they DON"T get along --- at least as far as my dh dog is concerned. She is used to having just him and being a 'loner' and she still hasn't accepted Biscuits as her 'brother'.....she's bitten him twice - once enough to draw blood and just last week she went after him when I wasn't watching who was where......but just scared him to death -- not biting him. So yes we DO play traffic cop all day long when they are in the house. She gets to stay in the kitchen mostly with a gate up....and then Biscuits roams thru the rest of the house (small at that) In the early evening the gate comes down and Smokey can go in the kitchen or living room to be with dh....and then mine stays in my TV room or office with me. (told you guys we don't sit in the same room very often!!)

Well dh wants to walk the dogs.

Have a great evening!!

Welcome back Mzryann. Happy to hear from you again and be careful with the yard work. Don't want to overdue it!
Ah, sleeping after TKR'S. I too am a side sleeper and it is very hard to get comfortable. I did sleep on my side but it was so hard to move. DH said I moaned a lot Nd kept him awake. Years ago that did not bother him!!!!! emoticon

Today we are doing a little reorganizing as our nephew is coming to stay with us for 10 days. He has meetings in downtown Vancouver. We need to make space in the spare bedroom for him. This is not so easy when you live in a condo. When we were in our house we had a very comfortable guest room with lots of space. I guess I will just have to put some of our clothes that are now in the closet and drawers in a box and store it in our closet. We will make it work somehow. It will be wonderful to have him here for awhile.
The weather is suppose to get nicer all week so I am looking forward to the rain to be gone.
Have a good day everyone!

Karen--I have a big body pillow that I hoisted my unoperated leg up on--operated leg on the bottom. I positioned myself fairly far from the edge of the bed that I was turning to. I had placed the body pillow at the edge of the bed. Then carefully rolled over on my side and swung my top (unoperated) leg over the bottom one and positioned it on the body pillow. That gave my back some relief. When I did sleep on my back, I had another body pillow at the head of my bed and piled regular pillows on top of it, so I wasn't sleeping flat on my back.

Hope therapy goes well!

Hello team .... Happy June!!! Yes - I'm still alive, and actually awake - lol.

Don't know what bug decided to visit and unpack in my system, but I'm glad he checked out!

Haven't had a chance to read all that's going on with everyone -- have a lot to catch up on. Hope you're all doing well.

Have a full day of yard work ahead of me --- before another round of rain gets us.

Have a great Saturday!

BLUESTARMOM Sorry, I'm not a back sleeper either but after my knee break had to (try) to sleep on my back for six months. Finally after having my knee replaced I had to wait until I had full extension of my knee before I could sleep on my side. I still sleep with a pillow between my legs and it's been almost 15 months since the TKR.

The physical therapist is coming today (let the fun times begin), but I'm wondering- what's the best way to sleep? I have a lot of trouble getting comfortable. I am not a back sleeper and it seems like I'm stuck in one position.
Rain and thunderstorms today. At least my flowers are getting watered.

Back home again, jiggity, jig. I'm happy to be home, looking forward to getting some of this stiffness out of my knee. I sat down in my recliner- bad idea. I had to have my son come over and help me up. So I've taken over the couch. I even managed to wash my hair in the kitchen sink, so I feel halfway normal. All of the vacations sound lovely. Now I want to do an alphabet one too.

My adventure for today was to visit another meal site for work. I went to a complex in Quincy, which does 180 meals per day, compared to my 45 or so. It was a real eye-opener. They take up half a room, whereas I only use a couple of tables. On the other hand, I don't have kitchen help and do 90% of the work myself, whereas she as 4 people who come in every day, not counting the drivers. So it was an interesting morning.

Lynn: the alphabet was for different things to do, from amusement part to zoo. It just gives me a bit of focus, so we're not doing the same things over and over. And it makes the summers seem longer. Ed would be just as happy to spend every weekend sitting in front of the TV, flipping thru' channels, but I figure the summer goes by so fast here, I want to make the most of it.

Good Friday morning to you all! It's been a busy week. My brother is starting south tomorrow and they will be here sometime on Sunday. Then we are heading to San Antonio for a few days. So it's time to start packing again! I'm taking the laptop with us so I can do some work in the evenings--so I won't feel like I'm shirking. It didn't help that I had to take Tues. a.m. off to deal with the tree. We have the trip north in July and I feel like I'm never home!

Well...speaking of work...

Cheryl I chuckled when i read your story about the kittens. Sounds like fun. Oh to have the house to yourself for two weeks. Being retired we are here together 99% of the time. I am not complaining but having the place to yourself is like a holiday for you too. Especially not having to cook the same kind of meals. I would be happy with just salads a lot of the time. I still laugh when I see your profile picture!
I am off to the gym the morning then a little shopping and I think we might just see the sun today! Yeah!!!!!

Ahhhh..... finally, the weekend! I made it 8 hrs. 3 days this week ( not really intended every day, but ended up toughing it out). It probably helped that we only had to work 4 days this week, due to the holiday.
Lynn, I use extra sharp shredded cheddar, gives it a little zing. The kitties name is Smudge (but my daughter and I call her Smudgiebutt), and yes, my poor legs are shredded from those super sharp kitten claws. But, she is a lot of fun. She goes from 0 to 1000 in an instant..... and then collapses and naps, only to repeat again. Our other cat has accepted her pretty well (he's almost 16) and they are now following each other around. I'll try to post a picture.
My husband should be taking off next week to go home to see his family in the Czech Republic so I'll have the house to myself (and the cats) for two weeks.
Time to take a shower and a nap. It was a real hot one at work last night.
Catch you all later!

Good evening!

Been a busy day here too...went to my best friends retirement luncheon. We both ended up with 42 years of teaching....she had 41 at our school and one other year elsewhere. She's worried about being 'bored'.....I told her that has been your 'normal' for all those years and now you just find a NEW normal!!!

Becca - I love your way of doing adventures!! So did the alphabet idea have to be a letter of the town, activity there, or something you saw? I think that's really neat and I might have to think of a way of coming up with a theme! Thanks for sharing...
And it isn't hard to spend those kinds of bucks in a short amount of time is it? We've done that a couple of times too and it makes my head spin!!

Donna - being retired is just the best thing! I like having my time be MY time!! I admire you and your getting your activity in each day!! I only got the dog walked this AM - was going to go to aquazumba but got home too late to go.

Cheryl -- the bread sounds yummy! What kind of cheese do you put on it? Or do you switch it around? I love rye bread with swiss cheese but I've never really found a low calorie rye.
Ahhh a kitty -- that's fun! (except the scratches part) What did you name it?

And enjoy your "Friday"....

Have a good evening everyone...been up since 6:30....and haven't really sat much since! That's one thing I find since being retired - I hate these busy days b/c then the next day all I want to do the next day is veggie out....and I don't mean REAL veggies!! :))

I have a new favorite sandwich..... honey oatmeal bread, LOTS of baby spinach, a little cheese, and a drizzle of ranch dressing. Amazing how our tastes can change.

AND, we also have a new 2 month old kitty! (and LOTS of scratches on my legs) hahaha

Becca, that sounds really interesting travelling like that. An adventure!!! We also like to travel and not make plans so we end up doing what we want, when we want. We scraper red doing this when we were working so we did not have a schedule. Had enough restrictions with our jobs.
Today was my golf day with the ladies and I thought I was going to get wet but the weather cooperated and there was only a few showers so it was not bad. I am tired now and decided to take a few minutes before making supper. Hope you all have a great evening!!!

Didn't get my nap today, so I'm very tired, but still have a class to go to tonight. Finally got Nick a car... Good news: by next week it'll be on the road and I won't have to make the 40 minute trip to take him to school, or pick him up. Bad news: between the car, insurance and registration, we spent over $1200 in less than 24 hours! Yikes!! But he really does need a car. And he has been enjoying the classes at school so far, so that is a very good sign.

Shir: we're not sure yet. We got a travel guide from AAA, but haven't really made any big plans yet. Our trips are usually like that, by the seat of our pants. We just do things that capture our interest.

Lynn: we do day trips all summer long, go to local places we haven't been to get. Every year I try to get some sort of theme going, or find a list of stuff in the newspaper to follow. Last year it was 26 different things, one for every letter of the alphabet. It took some creativing to fill out the X and Z... This year it's going to be numbers, maybe a baker's dozen.

Have a great vacation Shirley! Hope you continue to feel better. I know where Tiffin is..... I shot photos there YEARS ago ( used to do portrait photography). I've been there a couple times. I am originally from Toledo, Ohio.

I'll check in with everyone else later.......

HI everyone, getting ready to leave soon. I haven't even thrown any clothes in the suitcase yet! I know what I'm taken just a matter of getting them there. I was going to do this last night but was hurting all over so bad! Ended up just going to bed. Feeling better today. After all I have been through these last two weeks and all the drugs I was on I figured it is just from all of that. Feeling better this morning thank goodness.

Lynn, hope they find out what is wrong with your sil soon. She's been through a lot. Very scary. I'd be freaking out too if I had two different Drs. telling me things.

Becca, where in Ohio are you going to? I am from Tiffin, Ohio, a very small town about an hour south of Toledo. Lots of farm land up there.

Need to run and finish packing.

Good evening everyone!

Shirley - I'll add my sentiments to your vacation -- have a GREAT time and just relax and enjoy!! I knew that you hadn't been married a really long time and so I guess you really are still a newlywed!!! We just had our 5th year anniversary and we can't believe it's gone that fast!

One of our newer members -- Bluestarmom (or Karen) had her surgery yesterday! Our other member LorieLP was due to have surgery then as well but it's been delayed til June. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers!

Hi Diana - so good to hear from you! I keep telling myself I"m going to come to the rally in July....but haven't made my reservation yet...something else keeps coming up.

An update on my SIL - she still is in the hospital. I went to see her yesterday and she was kind of upset b/c one dr. is telling her one thing and another is telling her something else. So THEN....they finally decide to give her solid food....(after 5 days of nothing but liquids) and then they decide to do another colonoscopy (she had one in April!!) b/c they haven't found the source of the bleeding anywhere else yet!!! Yep I think I'd be rather upset as well! So she had to go thru the prep last nite!.

Becca -- I like that "going to Ohio b/c we've never been there" I like that...Dh and I think that way about travelling...except we want to see things here in IN that we haven't seen before! So we're going to start there and we're calling them our 'one day adventures!' Mainly only one day b/c he doesn't want to board the dogs!!

Laurie - so sorry to hear about your tree. I have 2 very large maples in my front yard and they do cause havoc with the plumbing. But I love the shade they provide for the very same reason you mentioned - shade and helping with AC bills. A couple of years ago we had them 'topped' and the the guy said the one is dying.....and will have to come down at some point. Trees are expensive to take down!!! Sooooo we're going to hold onto it as long as we can and maybe we'll just keep topping it shorter and shorter each year- --- LOL....til it's almost down!!

Have a great evening everyone!!

Shirl: I got vaca news, too. I have 7 days to use up before I lose them, so I am taking a couple of days in June, and an extra week in July. No trips, as I will be by myself, but I'm OK with that. Our 'real' vacation is the last week of July, first week of August. Will be visiting Ohio, just because we've never been there before.

Hi everyone,
Thought I better check in so you didn't think I had fallen off the face of the earth! Still here!

Finally feeling like myself again! Now the bills are starting to roll in for the Emergency Room and Drs. visits. Oh my! I will be paying medical bills forever it looks like! Insurance didn't cover as much as I had hoped. Oh well! I'm still coughing but finally got through a whole night without waking up coughing. I've been sick for two weeks now, about time I started feeling better. Spent most of the weekend lying around resting. I did manage the grocery store and thanks to my dh he helped me get the house clean. Starting to get my strength back finally. Still coughing during the day but not like I was. Amazing what two rounds of steroids will do.

Am ready for this day to be over with. We are leaving on vacation in the morning! We are going to Memphis where my dh grew up. I've never been there and it has been a long time since he's been there too. I also have a very dear old friend that has moved there from here. I haven't seen her in several years so I am looking forward to having dinner with her. Just looking forward to spending some time with my dh away from computers, phones, work, household chores etc. We both are in need of a vacation. Plus our wedding anniversary is Sat. we are celebrating 2 blissful years together. So glad that I am 6 months out having knee replacement surgery and will feel like doing some walking on this vacation. Hope we have nice weather. Most everything we want to do is outdoors.

When I come back to work on Monday Argh! it will be working 10 hour days. We did this last year. So not looking forward to this! I guess everyone in my office is going to bring a sandwich for lunch and eat at their desks so that we can leave 30 mins. earlier. So I will leave my house at 7 am and get home at 6 pm. UGH! Last year I wasn't getting home until 6:30. I'm used to working until 4:30 and having an hour for lunch and being able to leave the property. During the summer we don't get to do that. It's a big adjustment. Everyone thinks having a 3 day weekend off every week makes up for it, but it doesn't. It takes me all day Friday just to recuperate from the week. The only advantage is I get my laundry and housework done. I sure don't feel like coming home and spending time making healthy meals and exercising. Will do the best I can. I sure don't want to gain back everything I just lost! None of my co-workers like the 10 hour days during the summer, we would all rather work 5 days a week. I know we're odd! There sure has been a lot of grumbling about this since we found out. Thank goodness it's only for 8 weeks!

Will catch up with you all later when I get back!
Shirley

Sorry Dianna for your pain and swelling.

My right knee doesn't hurt anymore since I pulled that ligament. I know it was because people prayed for me. I walk carefully though so as to not rotate my knee outward and pull that ligament again.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi all, looks like everyone is keeping busy.
I just lost a large limb out of my cherry tree and was sad about that. Fortunately, now that the leaves are out, you can't really tell where it was-and hopefully next year, there will be blooms there!

I finally got into the doctor and after looking at the swelling and my complaint about pain, she sent me for a stat ultrasound of that leg. Fortunately no blood clot. Since it is my TKR leg, she's now thinking the swelling is the TKR, and the pain is from my back (I have also had back surgery). So now back to the ortho doc after 2 years off. She did juggle meds so I can sleep at night and the swelling is less. But hot and humid weather is coming and that is not going to help.

Memorial day was a nice weekend. Didn't do alot, but did get ready for my garage sale. Didn't make it through all the closets, but there will be another one in the fall :-)

Take care everyone, Diana

Donna, our yard is really small. We might just let the roses get big. Who am I kidding? We never got around to pruning them in winter, so they are already too big emoticon The sun really pours in the windows in late afternoon. Wonder if I could get the homeowners association to plant something fast growing just outside our fence???

Lynn, I haven't forgotten to post cruise photos. Just haven't had time. I'll get them in a blog sometime...soon...-ish.

I'm SO GLAD to be feeling better! Still have a little cough, but overall I'm getting some energy back. emoticon

Donna, good thing to have some objective criteria that you can use to overrule Mr. I'm-Just-Fine.

Becca, I miss lilacs!

Laurie, you can plant another one and before you know it, it will be big enough to provide shade. Things grow a lot faster in the south than in Wisconsin I would think.
Dr appointment went well. I now have some parameters to follow in case we have to call 911 and DH is saying not to. He has an appointment for a ECG then another one with the cardiologist so we will have more info soon.
Becca, that is a lot of driving every day. I am sorry you have to do this. It is like a job isn't it?

Made it thru' Nick's first day of school, my first day of driving him to and fro. I don't really mind highway driving, but don't do it often, so I get very nervous.

Donna: our weather will be beautiful this week. Need to get some yard work done, as soon as I find the time. Driving to UTI will take over two hours out of my day...

Laurie: we have a huge lilac tree in our front yard. I know I will be sad when it goes. Sorry for your loss.

Sad day at our house. The desert willow in our yard split in the wind overnight. The guys are here right now cutting it down. It sure makes the yard look naked. It gave us shade in front of the northwest-facing bank of windows. I think our a/c bill may be higher this year.

Hi guys. Just a quick catch-up note. My brother and SIL are coming next weekend for a week or so, and we are heading down to San Antonio for a few days with them. We've been pretty busy catching up from being gone and getting ready for them to come. Had company over for dinner yesterday afternoon. Today just spent the day catching up on some things. (Whisper, "and booking next year's cruise" Shhh).

Karen, hope all goes well for you tomorrow! After all the anticipation, it's good to get the show on road.

Hope everyone is doing well. Time to call it a day!

Carolyn, thank goodness your knee is doing better.
Today I did ndt go to the gym and instead went golfing with a friend. We got sprinkled on but not bad. It was so nice to get out and also to get some exercise. Still need to walk a little more today.

Good workout on the bike, but I didn't do as much as I wanted, as my knee started cramping up. I may need to get cortisone shots again...

Got Nick some new uniform pants and socks, as he's starting school tomorrow. The commute will be tough on me, back and forth twice a day. But it will be worth it.

Karen: yes, God bless our troops and God bless your son!

Joan, I'm glad to know that. I'll go get a cheapo shower chair today. Ack, I can't believe that tomorrow is the day! I'm so glad, I haven't slept since I've been off the arthritis meds.
Carolyn, great news on your knee. I'm glad you are able to get around some with minimal pain.
Last night I got to babysit the new grand daughter for a couple of hours. Of course Uncle Jason was there, as well as my grandson Bryan, which made me feel better because I wasn't sure if I could get up with her. She's such a sweetie - about 8 pounds now, and 1 month old. My short term rehab goal is to be able to walk next door so I can rock the baby lol.
So happy to have my soldier son here on this holiday. God bless our Troops, past and present!

My right knee that had the stretched ligament and pain is doing much better. Thanks for praying for it. I was able to take a walk outside yesterday and did not have any pain. I only took Ibuprfen once yesterday. I'm so thankful.

Quiet day here, and will have another tomorrow. Tuesday is when all the 'fun' starts again.

Karen: I'll send some rain your way. We've had it for five days in a row now. The sun looks like it's trying to come out, but the clouds are still in the sky.

Donna: prayers for your hubby! emoticon

Karen, been where you are 7 weeks ago. I know it's not much but they did say I could take Tylenol up to the day of surgery. My house is still a wreck, I'm just concentrating on getting better. I picked up a used shower chair at Salvation Army. It didn't have arms but I was able to push up from the seat which is extended out to the sides somewhat. Only used it for 3 weeks, back to the baths now...

Hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day weekend....

Good morning! Jason came in yesterday afternoon. We had a nice barbecue and visit. Between cleaning house, grocery shopping, and the airport, I was in a world of hurt last night. Being off my arthritis meds really stinks. At least I managed to get my freezer and household stuff stocked up, so I feel a little more prepared for Tuesday.
We got a little rain overnight. I wish we'd get one good soaking so everything would get watered. It's supposed to get hot by the end of the week. I've been enjoying the milder temperatures.

Karen - I don't think you're having anything but pre-surgery jitters and that's fine but I"m sure very unsettling to you. I'm a firm believer in whatever you do for you is the best you can do and that's all that matters. Things may not be perfectly done but they're done or else they'll wait til they are done. Try not to fret -- I know easy for me to say - I'm not the one having surgery but know that if you have done what you can --- then that's good enough.

Donna - hope you have had a good day - and hope to hear more about dh!. I learned tonite that my SIL is in the hospital. We were to meet her and my BIL for supper and as we were waiting...they were late which was unusual. So I called my BIL cell and he was on his way to the restaurant. When he got there he was alone......and so his wife my SIL is in the hospital due to internal bleeding. Of course it's weekend/and a holiday to boot so not sure when they'll do anything....but they've had to give her blood already and she's quite anemic. She's on coumadin (blood thinner) due to a heart valve replacement and so now they're wondering if after when she had a colonoscopy in April -- perhaps they perforated something ....will find out more tomorrow hopefully. They were planning on hosting a cookout on Monday for my 3 kids and spouses and us and a few others. Those plans are now on hold.
Please keep her in your prayers.

So today I am feeling completely overwhelmed. I'm really not sure what's wrong, but I've had to force myself to get things done. I feel like my life is completely out of control, but I'm too tired to deal with it. I was looking at things for post surgery- I did manage to get a high toilet seat and a grab bar for the shower, but I couldn't decide what kind of shower chair to get. I'm thinking I really need to get one with arms so I can get up. My shower isn't very big and it has glass doors- that worries me as well. We have another bathroom with a tub and shower, but I don't like using that one- arrrrg.
I went to Walmart to stock up on groceries, but I don't think I picked the healthiest choices. I feel like my house is a mess, and I should be cleaning it, but I don't feel like it. I hate this feeling. I think its partly because I'm off my arthritis meds so I hurt, and maybe partly unconscious apprehension about the upcoming surgery. It was easier to think about when it was in the future.
Does anyone have any fun plans for the holiday weekend? We will probably barbecue tomorrow after Jason gets here. I'll have both my boys here, but missing my girls.

Donna I am glad they could find out what your husband's problem was and you are right emergency rooms are no fun.
I don't blame you for not wanting to be far from him today.
God bless.

Lynn, Jason will be in Korea for a year- Camp Casey I think. It's only 10 miles from the North Korea border, so I'm a little apprehensive about that, but like he says, it could be worse. He's served two tours in Iraq- one for a year and one 15 months. My daughter in law and grandson will stay in Texas- they just bought a house in Copperaus Cove last summer.
I just got back from my final pre surgical check. I asked the ortho if he thinks I'll be able to start back to school on time, and he said the odds are 50/50. Not really what I wanted to hear, but I'm going to go in with a positive attitude and hope for the best. I'm the first surgery of the day Tuesday, which I'm very happy about. I'd rather get up early and get it done.
Donna, I'm glad your husband is doing better. That must have been very scary.
Shirley, I had a double hernia surgery in March- I had a really bad case of bronchitis in Jan. and I think the intense coughing caused it. My doctor told me to press a hand against my stomach any time I cough or sneeze. Glad you are finally feeling better. Steroids can really be a big help.
How soon after surgery can you go in a pool? I know it depends on the doctor, but I'm trying to get an approximate time frame. I want to join the Y because it has a pool and my son and grandson (the one who lives next door to me) started going recently. They have a free membership deal right now, but I'd hate to join and pay dues for months on end if I'm not going to be able to use it.
Cooler day today. It keeps threatening rain, but so far not more than a few sprinkles.

Oh Donna -- how scary that must have been!! I would be like you though and want to stay near 'just in case'. Glad he didn't have to stay IN the hospital .....just hope you don't have to go back! Keeping you and him in my prayers!

Karen -- I have to laugh - you 'slept in' til 5:30......!!!I know I used to get up at 5:15 w/ the alarm...now I can sleep in easily til 6:30-7:00.....occ til 8 but that's rare. The very few times I've had to set the alarm...it's like a bad dream!! But luckily being retired - there's not too many times I have to do that! I know you may have mentioned it -- I knew your son was going to Korea - but for how long?

Shirley - glad to hear from you! And glad you're doing better. I do remember when that coughing would cause such sore ribs that it got so it hurt just to breathe! Hopefully you're on the mend now!

Made it to aquasize this AM since I can't go to aquazumba tonite. Dh and I are meeting his sister (who's coming from Boston) for supper before she heads to where their aunt lives to spend a few days with her. I look forward to seeing her since we've not seen her since last Oct.

Well yesterday I golfed and when I got home DH was not Yet from his Dr, appointment. I thought it was strange and then I got a call from a friend that he was coming to pick me up as DH was in the hospital. On Sunday after we had been out we were in our underground parking . He was walking towards the elevator and all of a sudden he could not stand up. I rushed over to help him and a few minutes later he threw up. Once we got back into our condo I wanted him to go to the hospital but he said he just wanted to lay down for a few minutes. When he woke up he seemed fine and on Monday he was tired but fine. So first thing Tuesday he called the Dr. And got an appointment for yesterday afternoon. While at the Dr. He has his bp taken and it was so low that the dr. Called an ambulance and had him taken to the hospital which was only about 500 meters away. We got home around 10:30. DH wears nitro patches everyday and they have decreased the dosage on this. They also did a ct scan on his head to make sure there was no problem. So all in all it was a very scary evening. Emergency rooms are not good places to be. So now he feels fine and plans to carry on a normal day today. Me, I am worried and am sitting here wondering if I should carry on my normal day???? I am suppose to be golfing again today (this is very unusual for me to golf two days in a row but yesterday I was playing team) and I am thinking I don't want to be away from him.
I had better run and make some decisions. Will catch up,with you later!

Hi all,

Donna so sorry to hear about the trip to the ER with your dh. Hope everything is ok.

Went back to the Dr. yesterday, she said I wasn't contagious anymore, that's good news. She just thinks my lungs are so irritated from all of the coughing, so she started me back on another set of steroids. It was noon when I left there, decided I was just too tired to go back to work so went home, I tried to get some sleep but never happened. By last night I was feeling much better and finally got some decent sleep last night. Both dh and I needed that. Today is better, no more wheezing, the cough is still there but not nearly as bad as yesterday. I feel like I might live now. The pain in my chest and back from coughing so much as subsided. Just feeling weak and tried from being sick for so long. She wants me to take it easy this weekend. DH and I are supposed to be leaving on our vacation next Thurs. so I need to get over this.

Joan, I don't know how you managed to get in and out of the tub! Good for you! I'm with you Lynn someday when I win the lottery I would love to have one of those walk in tubs too! I nearly slipped getting into the tub/shower this morning again. We have a bath mat but for some reason it keeps sliding. We clean the tub every week so I don't know what the deal is. Just so thankful that I have that handle to hold onto getting in and out. Hit the side of my knee that I had done 3 years ago against the tub. Wow! That hurt! I will probably have a really nice bruise. My dh said he is ready to glue the bathmat to the bottom of the tub. I really wish we had a separate shower.

Guess I should get some work done! Have a nice day everyone.

Joan, getting in and out of a tub is a huge accomplishment. I used to love taking baths. I keep thinking that someday when I when the lottery, I'm going to get one of those walk in tubs. I think that's the only way I'll ever get in and out of one.
Donna, sending healing thoughts to you for your DH. What a night!
Lynn, I could think of all kinds of things for a pergola. What a great place to just sit and relax, or read....
Well I managed to stay in bed until 5:30. This being able to sleep in is going to take some getting used to lol. I've always been a morning person though. Today I'm planning on taking one day just to relax. Tomorrow will be some major cleaning and a stock up shopping trip. Sat. afternoon I have to go pick my son up at the airport. I'm so excited to spend some time with him before he leaves for Korea!

Good evening --

Joan -congratulations - that IS good news!! And getting into (and out of) a tub - that's even better. I don't do baths anymore b/c it is too much of a hassle. Yeah unfortunately the arthritis doesn't go too far away and the aches of that are still evident but I can handle that now that the knee pain is gone for the most part.

Shirley - hope you got something from your dr. today that helped!! Keep us posted how you are. I'm sure the humidity outside doesn't help!! AWWW...they took away your gazebo?? That stinks -- I sit out on the patio now and dh comes out and says "what are you doing" And I always tell him "Sitting in my pergola!!! :))) Well the pergola-to-be!!!! I just sit and day dream what I"d LIKE to put in it ....which I'm sure won't fly but I can dream!!

LOL@ Laurie -- yep those maids really must know how to treat their guests...I may have to re-think cruising....

Karen -- freedom is coming SOON!!!

Just thought I'd drop in after my PT today. I think Friday may be my last day. I've only gone 7 times, my doc wanted 12. My knee (angle) is supposed to get to 110 to "graduate", and it's there already. My therapist is so impressed at how good my ortho guy was she wants her knee done by him....( and this surgeon is a "hottie" too...lol)

Shirley, I hope you got some relief and better drugs from the doc today.

I thought that I would regain my lost youth after surgery but the arthritis is still there, along with the broken down everything else. I did get in and out of the bathtub last Saturday which was really great!! I missed my bubble baths, and now I can soak my joints for greater relief.
Have a great evening everyone...!!!

Joan :)

Well, the quest for a car for Nick is continuing. We did look at one car within our price range, a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, but the dealer said it didn't have a warranty. I may not know much about cars, but that raised a huge red flag...

Laurie: sounds like someone got spoiled a bit! emoticon

Well, I was doing better, now I feel like I took 2 steps forward and then took a step backward. I come to work and then go home and crash on the couch, then I fall into bed. Unfortunately I haven't slept very well in over a week from all the coughing and I am just totally wore out.
I finally gave in and decided enough is enough, I really can't afford to go to the Dr. or spend another $75.00 on more drugs but something has to be done. I have an appt. to see the Dr. again this morning. This bronchitis just won't leave me be. I'm running out of sick days so I need to be at work. Everyone at work was urging me to go back to the Dr. this morning. I guess I need to go!

Hmm, maid service, I need a maid about now at my house. Thankful for my dh he has been doing all the errand running, dishes etc. I have only managed to cook the last 2 days. But my house could use a good cleaning, that's what I was planning on doing next Monday while dh is at work. Hoping I feel better by then!

Lynn, you are just a busy little bee! So much going on at your house! A pergalo sounds wonderful. I am so upset because right behind my apartment there was a beautiful gazebo, when we moved in there was a swing in it, then they took the swing down, a few weeks ago I got home from work and found them tearing down the gazebo. I was so upset. I guess it was rotted. When we had snow a few years ago it was just so beautiful!

Guess I should go and get some work done.

Shirley

Lots to do today. May be getting a car for Nick. We really don't have the money ~ will have to use the tax refund we were saving for siding the 3 side of the house. But if he doesn't have a car, I will have to take him to and from school, which would mean at least 3 extra hours of driving for me each day...

Good morning! I'm doing the happy dance- today is our last day of school! Probably a good thing since I have to go off my arthritis meds in preparation for surgery. I had to go off them in March for hernia surgery, and by the time the surgery rolled around I was just about crippled. I could barely unscrew the lid off a jar. And I'm planning on steam cleaning my bedroom carpet Friday- wonder how well that will go? Today I have to finish packing up my room- we have to take everything off bookshelves, the floors, etc. AND they expect us to move all the furniture over to one side of the room, but I've already told them it's not going to happen. I'll stack chairs and move the tables, but I'm not stacking the tables, nor am I moving book cases. I'm trying to put things where it will be easier to unpack since I know I'm not going to be up to doing a lot in July.
I would love to have a pergola! My yard is teeny tiny - not enough room to do the things I'd like. One of these days I'm going to have a big back patio put in. Right now we have a small concrete area and then it's all downhill. Mike can't take his wheelchair out there, and it would be nice if he could get out back.
I'll sign up for maid service too! And if I have to take a cruise to get it, well gee, that would be a hardship but I guess I could force myself lol. Have a great day, everyone!

Good evening all --

Been a busy day and this was my 1st chance to check in here! Lots of projects in progress - the pergola guy will be here sometime next week to begin that project, the landscapers will be here to bring dirt and level the front yard from the dig of the plumbers digging up the plumbing a month or so ago. Plus had to make insurance calls b/c a guy backed into us in Lowe's parking lot last week - he took full responsibility. Not alot of damage (or at least not til the bill comes!) But the back bumper is loose. So his insurance adjuster is coming on Thurs to look at my car

Carolyn - glad you found the brace. I was just picturing the other one falling down your leg -- created quite an image!! :))

Karen - that's pretty neat that your own dr. will be there for you as well That has to make you feel better! For those of you who know Lorraine . (LORIELP) She posted on another thread here that her surgery may have to be postponed - if you want to read about it - it's under the General Discussion topic -- under the thread of "Latest bump in the road to knee surgery" Hope you had a good day at school today too!!

Becca - our weather has been like that the past few days as well. We got a little rain during the nite but just barely. So it seems that most days you get our weather about 2 or 3 days after us. (depending on the jet stream)

Shirley -- that has sure been rough on you, hasn't it?? You and Maryann have both been sick for awhile now. Hope you feel better soon ESPECIALLY with a vaca coming up!!!

Donna and Laurie - I want a maid too...!!! So I have to go to a cruise ship to get one?? :)))
Of course if you ask dh -- he'll say HE'S the maid!!

I have been listening to the news about OK. as well....such terrible news! Prayers for those folks!!

Well about time to shut down and head to bed.....have a great nite all!!

Donna--all the maids are working on cruise ships! I'm still in cruise-pampering withdrawal!

Becca, I'm with you--I'll take heat over snow ANY DAY!

Shirley, it's not fair, hey? It comes on so suddenly and takes forever to leave. And who invited those germs, anyway? I hope you are feeling well enough to enjoy vacation time.

Our promised bad weather is starting. Hope we don't lose power. Or get the high winds.

Good afternoon everyone,
I think I am going to live! Still coughing, still some wheezing, but much better then it was. I came back to work yesterday. The day just flew by and it was so good to be back. Today I am so tired, I would really like to crawl under my desk and take a nap. The day is just crawling by. Everyday, though I see some improvement which is good! Supposed to go on vacation for part of next week with my dh so I need to get over this quickly!

Carolyn, that is good news about finding a brace that fits. Hope it does the job. I am very short and have very short legs, they could never find a brace that fit me properly, it would keep sliding down, it was more aggravation then it was worth in my opinion. After surgery this time I told the Dr. not to bother with it.

It's hot and humid here. Such devastating news out of Oklahoma! Just so so sad! Sending them lots of prayers.

Where in the world has Seni gone to? I guess she is busy making her monkeys! I miss her!

Well I guess I should get back to work. I have a bunch of stuff that needs to get back to Librarians at schools before school gets out this week, so I guess I better get at it!

Hope everyone has a great day!
Shirley

Carolyn I too am glad you found a brace that fit. I hope you feel better soon.
Becca a hot tub sounds good from here. It is very cool and rainy. We were suppose to golf today but had to cancel. So I am making soup, washing and just getting those chores done that just need doing! Where is my maid when I need her! Have a good day all and stay cool if you need too,

Hot & humid here today ~ the weather girl said it's a 'hot soupy' kind of day. I think it beats snow any time!!

Too hot for a hot tub! Maybe we can take a dip in a kiddie pool instead! Is anyone going to bring the beach ball? How about some low-sodium hot dogs?? emoticon And watermelon for dessert!

Glad you found a brace that fits properly, Carolyn. I had a cast once that kept falling on the top of my foot as my muscles atrophied. Not fun!

Today I found a knee brace that fits well. Found it in one of our hospital warehouses. The one I tried to wear yesterday was too large and kept falling to my ankle.

Good morning all. It's the last day of school for the kiddos. I'm always sad to say goodbye to them. We're supposed to have a carnival today, but it looks like storms are headed our way. Yesterday we had a field day. I took a chair with me so I could sit during events. I don't do well standing on uneven ground.
I got my surgical clearance from my regular doctor yesterday and he assured me that he would be there for my surgery. I was so happy to hear that. I hadn't really thought about it, but I must have worried subconsciously because I felt very relieved when he told me that he would be taking care of me along with my ortho.
I hope the lily survives. :) I love to garden, but it's getting harder and harder to do.
Carolyn, I hope your knee is feeling better.
Prayers going up for the victims of the tornado. It is horrific, especially the loss of so many children. It will be a nervous day at school today.

I'm sitting here in Africa watching Oklahoma's tornado news on the Satellite TV. It is just after 5am here so almost light but there will still be many hours of darkness there. Search and Rescue teams are still out there.

I finally went to see a Dr. about my right knee yesterday. That is the knee that has hurt since a chair broke from under me and I landed on the ground. The Dr. examined my knee and she found that my Medial Collateral ligament was stretched during that accident. That's why I'm having so much pain. She recommends a knee splint that will allow me to bend my knee but not rotate it to the sides. We looked for one but only found an XXL one which is way too big and keeps falling down to my ankle. I'm on Ibuprofen round the clock (and Prilosec for my stomach). I am also supposed to rest my knee.

Since my left knee never got but 85 degree bend after my knee broke and eventually needed a TKR, it's a bit tricky wearing a splint on the right knee! You can imagine the difficulty getting out of chairs and doing other activities. But.... my right knee ligament needs to heal. I've pretty much sat for three days but I really need to do some work at the hospital today.

I'm so glad to be able to be doing SP blogs again. Also, my main laptop computer that I sent back to the States for repairs has now returned to me, just yesterday. I'm busy getting it updated.

Have a nice day.

The tornados today were in Oklahoma. 51 dead at least and a lot of children injured. It is close to where a tornado went through a few years back and it looked like a war zone.

The Lord bless you
and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
