For parties that are not family i usually start with the fruits and veggies so I can slowly graze and not fill up too fast. I also plan extra activity those days and for the sweets i take a small container to take some home with me in or volunteer to bring food to the party so I know I have something i can eat without feeling guilty.
Family is a whole other issue if they are supportive then you should be able to work with your calories per day if not then I use the same goals as non-family
Best wishes for a safe and Happy Thanksgiving

Extra work outs on party days is a great idea. I should definitely try that. And I also like the idea of only eating "special" foods...
Concentrating on eating healthy foods like veggies is a great strategy as well!

Avoiding overeating at parties can be really difficult! I try to get in an extra workout on party days, since I know I'll go over my calorie range, and focus on the special foods that only come out this time of year.

And yes, definitely water instead of alcohol... or at least alternating glasses of water with glasses of wine.

I know the holiday season is very quickly approaching; Thanksgiving is on Thursday, and this seems to set off a storm of Holiday parties and exchanges.

My goals are these: not to overeat at parties, and not to tell myself "it's ok not to track these foods because it's the holidays!"

My problem has usually been that I overeat at parties; I like delicious food, whatever it is, and it's hard for me to stop. I decided this season to bring gum with me and sip on water instead of alcohol. It will be hardest when I go home to visit family as many of our gatherings surround food.

What are some of your goals and tips for this holiday season?
