Hi all! I've got the book and I'm ready to dole out the assignments! First I want to tell you that there's a new thread for these challenges which is now called "Tuesdays with Jamie: Food Rev Weekly Challenge" and is the second topic down in the General Team Discussion Forum. After today I'm going to post assignments there, so please go check it out and subscribe to that thread for updates and ask any questions/ give us wonderful ideas over there now, too.

So without further adieu, here is your recipe challenges for next Tuesday, 18 May!

Main recipe: Crunchy Garlic Chicken from page 241

Veggie: Minted Peas on page 220-ish (for some reason there aren't page numbers in the veggie section...)

Side: Open! Maybe something in the book, maybe your mom's secret mashed potato recipe, maybe something you have been inspired to make for ages-- the choice is yours (though if you need suggestions, by all means post to the forum and ask. I made this last night with whole wheat spaghetti tossed with olive oil, roasted garlic, and fresh basil. A worthy side!)

Master chefs: Jamie's Food Revolution is a bit of a beginner's cookbook, so if you want more of a challenge, here is a link for a goat-cheese and thyme stuffed chicken recipe you might try:
traceysculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/200
9/12/breaded-chicken-breasts-with-goat
.html

For those without the book, here is a link to someone's blog with good step-by-step instructions on making breaded chicken (though not exactly Jamie's recipe): adoringlyapril.blogspot.com/2010/04/swimsu
its-katsu.html

Enjoy and I look forward to hearing from you guys on Tuesday!

I am one of the vegetarians, and I agree it would be interesting to try to adapt his recipes, but I am not really excited about spending money on a cookbook that the majority of the recipes I have to figure out how to cook/substitute things for...though I like to support Jamie. I am only getting paid half-time right now and my funding is about to run out so, like many of you, money is really tight.

I think I will wait to read the blogs before I decide if I can join in - I think it is a great idea, though!

Love, love this idea and I'm so going to do it with you guys. I'm so in, I just have to order this new book!

I also see that there are a few vegetarians as well. I think it would be very interesting how you could change and adapt some of his recipes to be vegetarian and I'd love to read some blogs on how we were able to do that but it doesn't seem to me that very many of his recipes in my book are vegetarian. I mean there are chapters on meat and just one on pasta and one on veggies. But I'm sure they could be changed quite easily, so maybe we could all start from the same recipe and then the vegetarians just change it to suit their needs? That would be interesting to me!

I think since we're going through the entire book it's a no-no, but maybe I'll give a ballpark description of what we'll be cooking and you might be able to find the recipes online somewhere as well. If so, I'll link to them.

Sounds like fun. Could we do something like post the recipe on SP? Or is that a no-no?

Ok everyone! Let's do Jamie's Food Revolution! To give people enough time to buy the book, how about we start Tuesday, May 18th. About a week before that I'll post here what recipes we'll be doing (probably a main and a side) and give ideas for a vegetarian substitution/include one of his veggie recipes if the main is a straight meat dish (but don't worry! It won't be for the first time round). Then we'll each make the recipe anytime over the week, spark it up if we feel keen, and then each post a blog entry, ideally with some pics, about cooking the dish on Tuesday May 18th. Tell others about the challenge and let The Revolution Begin!

Maybe we could have two challenges, one for vegetarian recipes as well? If there is enough interest...I think this would be fun!

I'm like alot of the other posts, I'm vegetarian & don't have any of his cookbooks, I tend to get my recipes online these days. Maybe, we could get recipes off of his website, I've checked & he does have vegetarian recipes. Here's the link his website & recipes: www.jamieoliver.com/recipes

That does sound like a great idea. Just let me know in plenty of time so I can pick up his cookbook. I live in a SMALL town so will have to order online or drive to civilization ;o) to get the book.

**I too LOVE Mark Bittman. I have his How to Cook Everything book (not vegetarian, although I would love to get it too) and even though not everything is super healthy, I can generally adjust the recipes.

I would love to do this, but unfortunately I am too busy with my course at this time. Maybe another time would be great (around August?).

Ooh, I do like this idea, but I am a vegetarian and I have a feeling most of his recipes aren't vegetarian. I haven't bought any of his cookbooks, but if someone out there has one they'd like to suggest for the cooking challenge can let me know if they think it would be doable to adapt his recipes for a vegetarian, please let me know. I really would love to do this!

Sounds like fun. I'm working on Mark Bittman's *How to Cook Everything Vegetarian" right now. I'm not a vegetarian, but I love his approach to veggies. I don't have a Jamie Oliver cookbook, so I wish you all well.

I propose a team challenge where we work our way through one of Jamie's cookbooks together, each week making the same recipe as each other and then blog about it. I think it would be a great way to pick-up some good cooking tricks, especially on adjusting recipes for diet and budget. It's also a great way to get to know each other! This is not a new idea; a huge community of food bloggers participate in a project called "Tuesdays with Dorie" where they are slowly and surely working through Dorie Greenspan's book "Baking From My Home to Yours". It's so interesting to see different people's takes on the recipes and how and who they end up enjoying them with.

We would need to pick a cookbook and then once per week we make the same recipe or combination of recipes (ie- a main and a side). Then on a specific day we blog about our meal, how we liked it, how we changed it, and maybe take a picture or two. Any hurdles you find with the recipe will probably be tackled by someone else, so you end up learning a lot! I think it's perfect for our group, since one of Jamie's big things is getting people comfortable in the kitchen.

Thoughts? Suggestions on which book? Lemme know!
