My latest attempt at cooking is finally here! I decided to make the charbroiled tuna with oregano oil, beans and peas. It turned out really light and fresh, and perfect for a hot summer night.

Thanks for being patient with me as I took my sweet time getting my cooking groove back.

Yeah, I am, I'm just taking my sweet time! LOL

I did make one thing a couple of nights ago from the cookbook! But it was super easy.

You see, I had a friend stop by completely last minute, and she was all stressed out. So she just wanted to talk but it was pretty much dinner time for me. So since she hadn't eaten either I decided we could talk while I threw together a salad.

I mixed up some homegrown lettuce a friend had just given me, radish slices, cut up some steak I had grilled the night before, green pepper pieces, feta cheese and some chickpeas that were leftover in the fridge. It looked super fancy! BUT then I realized I was completely out of my balsalmic vinegerette that I absolutely love. It tastes soooo good with the feta. So I grabbed my Jamie O cookbook and sure enough there was a basic recipe. When you cut the recipe in half, all you do is add 5 tablespoons olive oil to 1.75 tablespoons of balsalmic vinegar, and a little salt and pepper. All of which I had on hand! Woohoo!

So needless to say, my friend was amazed that I just whipped that up.

Well, I tried my first Cooking with Jamie recipe. I saw on Cheryl's Sparkpage that she had made a salad of beets, pears, and feta cheese! It was really quite tasty, but I have to say that I was surprised to see that pears have a higher calorie count than most fruits!

Since I'm so bored with cooking chicken on the Foreman grill, I decided I needed a much better go-to chicken dish, and "Roasted chicken breast with cherry tomatoes and asparagus" definitely qualifies as beautiful, tasty, fast, and easy.

I hate when I do things like that. Look at the positive side. When you are done with the book you will know the metric system very well

Oh crap. The Cooking with Jamie book that I ordered from Amazon for only $11 including the shipping? Yeah, it's the British version of the book. Meaning that everything is in metric.

Epic, epic, fail.

This is going to complicate things a bit.

I'm cooking Jamie's Banoffee Pie today for a friend's birthday. Rather than pastry, I'm using a graham crust and am adding a small layer of organic coconut pudding before the toffee, bananas, and whip cream. erm, not the sparkiest recipe, but 100% food and I'll probably only have two or three bites.

SexyMama, I find the easiest thing to do is to run recipes through a calorie counter. You can do it at SparkRecipes.com, but we're not really supposed to put up other people's recipes.

I use this one:
http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_
analysis.php

You can just copy and paste your ingredient list. Sometimes it takes a little tweaking, but I've found it to be a very helpful tool. Then I just enter the dish manually and mark it to go in my Favorites.

I am just wondering but have you figured out the calorie counts for any of the recipes. I can't wait to get the book but I am afraid I am going to die when I do the nutritional analysis and see the calories.

Cheryl,

It happens to everyone! A few years ago, in a different house, I left a pan of water to boil on the stove. I went back to my study while it heated and got absorbed in what I was doing until I saw smoke coming past my window, issuing from the kitchen.

I dashed out to find the pan completely dry. I yanked it off the burner and flames leapt out. It felt very light, but only because the bottom of the pan had melded to the burner and I was holding a handle attached to pan-sides.

Moral of the story: If smoke comes out of the kitchen and there's a pan on the stove, turn the burner off and walk away until it cools. Your pan and burner will still be ruined, but there will be no flames and you won't burn the enamel off your stove. I'm just sayin'.

And just so everyone is aware, I'm by far not the great cook that I like to pretend that I am. I was making some chocolate chip cookies last night... from scratch, not a mix!... and I had some in the over, and some on top of the stove in the pan, cooling. Went back to my computer room to finish whatever I was working on, and then a few minutes late, the smoke alarm started going off. Well, I ran over to the kitchen, and there was a TON of black smoke coming up from the cookies... I had somehow turned the burner on the stove on that was just underneath the sheet of cookies that were cooking! I threw that sheet into the sink under some water to stop the smoke, but my entire apartment was already filled of smoke! It was CRAZY!!

I have no recollection of turning that burner on and I am sure that if I would have waited a few minutes there would have been a fire!

I'm so not a good cook yet. I'm a scatterbrained idiot lol!

Thanks ladies, I'm definitely having a lot of fun with it so far! I had borrowed the book from the library and I decided that I need to just order myself one because I'm going to use it a lot longer than just 3 weeks. So I found a used copy on Amazon for only $8.74, plus like $4 shipping! Not bad at all!

I love a food blog with pics, so I say go for it. I've seen other teams do what you said - write a post with a link to their blog - and it seems to work just fine.

I made a dish from his Food Revolution cookbook the other night, but didn't have the foresight to take photos. Sorry!

I made Shrimp and Sweet Corn Chowder which was really yummy and a big hit with the kids, too. I changed it slightly to make it a bit healthier - I substituted nonfat milk for the heavy cream. To thicken it up a bit, I first added 1/4 cup flour to the leek/potato/corn/shrimp mix to make a roux, then I added the milk. It was still a bit thinner than I would have preferred, but the last step involves blending up the whole thing anyway, so it ended up with a nice consistency after all. 5 stars!

Nutritional info per serving (with my changes): 196g cal, 4g fat, 33mg chol, 912mg sodium, 29 carbs, 3g fiber, 12g protein. 6 servings.

I'm having a hard time getting my head around this. The first reason I wanted to start this team was because I wanted to share all of the great things I was finding out about JO's food revolution. But the second reason was because I decided I was going to cook every single recipe in the Cook with Jamie cookbook and share my experiences. Like Julie and Julia but with a much sexier twist because there's a hot guy with an accent... mmmm... lol!

Anyway, I wanted to share those experiences.

So I have pictures and stories. But the message boards don't allow you to include pictures, and while I could put it all in a blog, there is no real easy way to share that with the team.

Hmmm... I'm in a pickle as Jamie would say. Or maybe I just imagine that would be something he'd say.

I guess I'll just post a short description of the meal and the experience making it here in the boards, with a link to the blog so you can see all of the pictures too. I love food pictures... can't really tell the story without them.

Alright, hopefully, I'll start posting them here this afternoon. I've made two things so far, with one being fantastic, and one just so-so.
