There is a list on ICHelp.com. Go to patient Information, then treatment options, then brochures, then IC and Diet. That's what I try to follow. Your doctor also should have a list of what to eat and not to eat. If you drink soda, drink it flat. That's what I always did. Also I read on the same page that if you go in the resource materials guide there is an IC cookbook for sale. I know Nicole was looking for one. And I hate to tell you, Laurie is right, alcohol is a big no no. You must have a very mild case like she said if you don't have pain. I go out once in a great while (I have to find rides since I can't drive b/c of all this) and if I have a couple of drinks, I'll be bed ridden for a couple days after. I think I've mentioned it before, there is an over the counter thing called Prelief. I've only seen it at Walgreens, but it helps with the acid. Like if you eat pizza, take 2-3 tablets and it helps a lot. There is no medications in it so you can take as many as you need as many times you need. It's also got calcium in it.

you haven't!!! OMG!!!
I had half a bottle of wine last night!
It was SSSSOOOOO GOOOODDDDD
I almost did not share with my husband. The poor guy, I was drinking out of my glass and his glass!
I have never had a wine so sweet, so fruity!
We picked it up at a Champagne tasting this past winter.
I am going out on the 31st for a bachorelette party, so let me know what you like. I will have one for you! :)
I think I should look into what I should not eat with IC, it sounds like my whole daily diet is a no no.
Do you have the list? Or is there a site with the list somewhere?

Last time I was in day surgery, some had compiled
a list of things that irritate I.C. patients..
bananas was one of the things..it is high in
potasium and it is the potassium that makes the
bladder worse..I used to love it with cereal..but
I am carefull... yikes..somedays I would love to
get drunk and forget all of this, but alas I have
not had a drink in l5 years...lol

I just read an article about bananas and how they are really good for regulating. And for giving energy when exercising.
Please tell me that they are part of the safe diet! :)

Well ladies, thank you very much..that internal
massage love thing sounds like a great idea and
I will ask my pharmacist about some of those other
over the counter medications.. i am not sure if
the senna is irritating it and making it worse and
I definitely don't want that... I found that the
heat rub and heat does help the inflammation some.
Does any here take any anti-inflamatory drugs..do
they help keep the inflammation down..please let
me know.

Thank you guys..appreciate all the lovely comments.

Morphine does that to me also. The doctor gave me Doc-Q-Lace or something like that which didn't help. Also, he suggested Mirelax which is over the counter. You just put it in your drinks and you can't taste it. The only thing is, it takes a day or two for it to work. I've have good results with Benefiber which is the same concept. You put it in any drink. I would have to take it 2-3 times a day, where my fiance only took it once. (he had chemo) Other then that, I have to take laxatives if nothing else works. My doctor said that you should make sure you are keeping your bowls clear b/c being constipated makes the I.C. pain worse. It's a huge pain but I need the medications. Also, if you want to try this: Lay down and put some lotion on your belly. With your hands, massage up on the right side of your belly button 10 times. (hand over hand) then massage up and across your belly 10 times. Then masage up, across then down the left side 10 times. It's called the ILU (I love you) massage. You can do it yourself, or have someone do it for you. It helps your digestive system move. Whatever you do, DO NOT go the other way. You can get blocked up. I learned this from my PT. She said any massage you do on your stomach/pelvic area should be clockwise (your clockwise) or it will block you up. Hope it helps!

Hi Laurie,
I take Colace, with stimulate, twice a day and have been taking that for awhile, years.
I also eat a high fiber cereal in the morning ( whole grain cheerios, in the purple box), also, I eat a couple prunes if I find I am having issues and drink some juice and drink more water than usual.
I also, for awhile, was eating a lot of fruit for lunch, that was all I ate. I made sure that I had my 6 servings of fruit everyday! I was using the dole fruit cups, as I was constantly on the road, so they worked for me.
I have not done that in awhile, since I got it all under control, but now I think I will have to go back to that. And after lucnh everyday, I took one of those chewable fiber tablets. But I stopped those, because I noticed a lot of gas.
But yes, since I have been on the Vesicare, this month, I have had issues. I am back to where I was two years ago, where I worked so hard to get out of.

Hope some of those ideas help!

Hi///well one of the symptoms is overactive bladder
and sometimes I go very little but I go even with
pain meds probably 35-40 times a day..but you said
something that interests me..you see I have bowel
problems..because of the dilaudid..I just cannot
and I mean cannot go..I did not go for almost two
months..scary..Sept. and Oct. of last year...so
they put me on the senna laxative which works..twice
a week I take 8 and it cleans me out, but now, my
gut hurts...my insides are always swollen..do you
think it could be making my I.C. worse..and I take
Vesicare.. I was just glad to get rid of the sharp
shooting pain..but what you said made sence. Are
you o.k. now... Did they say you have I.C. Eeks,
nope dilaudid (hydromorphone) is an opiod for pain,
like morphine..and when I say hold the drug..that
was when they froze me with a nerve block..a big
needle like you get frozen with when you have an
epidural during delivery..and you feel nothing so
you can hold the meds forever..very unpleasant..and
hurts like H E L L ... I know what you mean..my
motivation sucks..tried to change my weight on Sparks
I was doing so good until last May and put the weight
back on cause the pain was just ridiculous.

hugs

Hi,
I really do not have the bladder pain.
I just could move into the bathroom. I go so much. And when I go, it is not that much, and I always feel that I have to go, after I have gone.
So, my dr has tried the bladder controlling meds. Or even muscle numbing meds. I guess I am just getting impatient, as I notice that it is getting worse for me. And the side effects of Vesacare for me, are making some other things that I deal with worse for me (IBS), so I do not think that this medicine is worth it for me.
What do mean by hold the medicine? Do you have to see how long you can hold your bladder? That gives me pain, eventually. And pain afterwards.
I think I have something like your pain med (dialidit)for my migraines (for nasua), I think it is in the same family. How interesting, the different uses for meds. Even my daily migraine med has two different uses for me.
I lost about 10 lbs (due to an increase in my migraine med) and have been stuck where I am since then. But it is partly my fault, as I know I should exercise,I just can never motivate myself. I am now paining for it this week, as we spent yesterday at an anitque fair and now my kneesare killing. I can not make it up or down the stairs. Well, I make it down, on my bum! :)
Sorry for the ramble!!!
have a good day! :)
Nicole

Hi:

Most definitely if they take you into day surgery
make them put you asleep and also give you somthing
for the pain before you wake up...I had over l00
of those bladder dilations with D.M.S.O. and it was
very painful..also they can give you a nerve block,
and they really do hurt so keep still but when you
wake up you can hold the medicine and you don't feel
a thing, I only found ..they thought they were putting down a horse cause it would take hours before
I could go...

I hope you are all doing o.k. please feel free to write me ...I had over 4 major surgeries as well..and
I am not sure..if at all they helped..maybe just for
a bit..of course I take pain meds all the time now,
I am on dilaudid (hydromorphone), 4 mg every 4 hours.
It makes it difficult but the alternative it just
too hard to live with... How do you ladies find the
weight loss, if you have that problem, for me it
is like my body has been under attack for 20 years.
it can be depressing.. please write.. remember that
someday...there is always a someday..I do the
heparin treatment..they say it is a good one..although I really cannot sa for sure..but you
can do it at home and it does not hurt at all...just
like putting cold water in your bladder..I agree that
the bladder dilations sting..for sure...it is awful..but usually when they used to do it I could
get two months before I would have to go in. My
new doctor is putting me into day surgery in September, he does not believe in it... what do you
do..

hugs

P.S..I have been on Vesicare now for l.5 years..give
it time, it really does help for sharp shooting pain.
that used to be just awful..so I can say it take a few months before you notice changes, sometimes even
six.... maybe you should take it with food.

hugs again

Laurie

Hi! How are you?
Thank you!
Dr did say he would put me under. I was actually under the impression that it happened in the hospital. Does it not? Good, then I do not have to see my mom! :) Wahoo! :)
I think I really scared him last time, but goodness, I was just so upset. I was more upset with myself than anything.
Oh, no, I can not be put under in an office, I have to be in the hospital due to my migraine meds. God, I hate my body. I even had to into the hospital to get my wisdom teeth out! :)
Kevin is pretty good to me, I got lucky, but yes, after surgery he is good to me. My endoscopic one, he was my nurse. He had just hurt his knee at work, so he was home too. Two weeks on the cape was the perfect recoup time! But he is mean about handing out meds. He makes me take them at the prescribed time, not when I want them. my body likes every 2 hours and he says every 4 hours. HMMMM. We will have to chat about that! :)
Have a good night! :)

I've had three of them. The reason I had three though, was b/c they were also looking inside of it. (two different doctors) When they stretch your bladder it's suppose to help relieve everything and they sometimes can last like 6 months. So they don't really lead to more, it's just based on when and how severe your symptoms are. I will tell you though, after the stretch, it was painful and I did urinate blood. It only lasted about a day or two, but if you think about it, they are taking your bladder and filling it up as far as it will go. If it works for you I say it's worth that day or two. It didn't work for me b/c my pain was so severe to begin with, I didn't notice any difference after the stretch. If my old doctors would have listened to me and tried to take care of my pain I wouldn't be in this situation I am now. Make sure they put you under. I heard some doctors don't and the patients are really uncomfortable. I know you said they didn't put you under for the other thing, so I was worried about you. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, I'm here. Don't be scared about it. It's quick. (and your husband can baby you the next few days lol)

Hi!
How is everyone?
I am just wondering if anyone has had bladder stretch and if so, has it to more? I guess what I am asking is, if I have one, am I bound to have more?
The medicine the doctor started me on (Vesacare) last month, I do not think it is working and it is messing with my tummy as well. I am not happy about the tummy part, that is something I worked hard to get in control of.
But, he did say it takes a few weeks to work and I do have permission to play with the dosage and I still have the elimoron and he said that I can add that back in if need be.
But, if this does not work, it is a bladder stretch.
I guess I need the facts.
Thank you ladies!
Have a good day! :)
Nicole
