Hi there,

It is summer break. I have been working harder than I did during the school year and it doesn't seem right. I am supposed to be tutoring during the summer park program in our school and they have turned the job into a paperwork nightmare. I am not happy because I didn't sign up for all of that. I haven't even gotten to work with kids yet.

I have also been working like crazy on my house and my yard. Our yard is looking pretty nice and I have some other plans for it yet. I have added an entire section to my hosta garden--and we added new little hostas and then put coleus around them so it will look balanced. I have been mulching like crazy and made a purple colored flower gardena and finished all of the mulching there too. It's work, but our youngest daughter actually complimented our yard and said that it looks "better than it ever has." WooHoo--that's the fruit of my labor.

It's been over 90 degrees all week and people are complaining. There are thunderstorms predicted for tonight and that is supposed to bring the temps down. At the very least, it will help out with the water the plants.

Keep on taking care of yourself!!
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Hi all

I have been away for a couple of months and am in the process of getting 'reaquainted'. I just wanted to drop by quickly and say hello for right now, I don't have much time on the computer, my husband is entertaining the kids for me for awhile, but it will soon be time to start baths and bedtime routines.

Sylvia, I was sorry to read that your school had been closed. They just closed one down here too. The teachers had to start packing up their classrooms 2 months before school let out. I could understand this a little more if the school were going to be renovated over the summer and there were construction deadlines in order to reopen for the beginning of the next school year. However, if the school is just being closed down, what's the hurry to get everyone out? Why not let the kids have the benefit of the educational materials they need to learn?......

Hi everyone,

I just got home from a kind of bittersweet event. It was a retirement party for the best principal I ever worked with. I am sorry he is retiring and I really missed the people I worked with when we were together. It is a long story, but the gist of it is that the district decided to up and close our school for no apparent good reason. IT was an inner city school that we had turned around. Test scores were improving and it was due to a hard working staff that always put kids first. I sure miss them and those days in my career. Maybe some day, I will find that kind of a group to work with in a place that needs adn appreciates each of us and the gifts we bring to the kids.

There was a bright spot in all of this--he told us that he was looking for another job and all of the places he had already applied that were looking for a principal. I sure hope he gets another job nearby, soon. He is a great guy to work for and with and it is not time for him to leave education.

Anyway, it left me in a fairly pensive mood and I thought I stop by and see who was around--but it is quiet here (as usual.) Please somebody, let me know that I am not talking to myself here!!

Take care of yourselves,
Sylvia

Happy May Day!!
It is the first day that it has been a cool, clear, and beautiful day around here--we had a couple of days with temps in the 80s and a lot of cold and rainy days--but today was one of those pretty spring days.

I am happy to announce that I finished my National Boards and got them int he mail yesterday. That is the culmination of 5 months of work--covering the past ten years of my professional efforts. Whew... Now I get to focus on me. I had 8 (maybe 9) injections in my back on Thursday---it was too tough to lie on my tummy and count them. I have one big one left in my hip on Tuesday and then with my workouts and PT, we are going to get me strong enough to walk again, yay.

My son is wanting to take us to dinner--so I had better get going. I just got home from the pool, and left from church to get there. It has been a busy enough day.

Anyway, I wish you all well and a wonderful month of May with lots of successes!!

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Happy Easter to the SP Class of 6/27, 2010!!

If you don't celebrate this day, I wish you a loving and wonderful day.
If you do celebrate--I hope that you feel the breathtaking love of the Resurrection in your heart and in the others around you. I am so full of feelings about this special day that I just wanted to share them with everyone I know and care about.

Have a wonderful day--be careful around a lot of sweets that might be at your fingertips. Try to substitute a piece of fruit or some veggies if you can, you will feel so happy that you made that choice. Mt fitness center is closed today, so I am going to try and get in a walk and my "floor" exercises that I have to do on the bed because I cannot get to the floor. Every little bit will help--but if you have a bit of a goof on your eating plan, remember that one food isn't bad and that the worst thing you can do is give up and start eating anything. You can come back to your plan right away. emoticon

Again, Happy Easter!! Christ is Risen!!
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Hi there,

I'm taking a few minutes out of my writing and DVD making for National Boards to stop by before I go to the pool and exercise. This project is coming along, but with the deadline looming by the end of the month, I am feeling pretty nervous.

I am happy with my new doctor and will see how she does when I have this first injection on Thursday. I will probably take a day off of work for this event--and then it is the beginning of evening Holy Week services at our church. Maundy Thursday services always move me--they strip dow the alter wearing black, in complete silence and everyone leaves in silence after they place the black net shroud on the Cross. It is like that on Friday when we return for Good Friday services--and I guess that makes the flowers and colors of Easter even more uplifting. My kids will go on the Cross Walk, but I cannot yet do that. It has been a long time--the last time I was able to do the walk, I was pushing Marshall and Miles in a stroller. They are now ages 20 and almost 22.

Have a great week, one and all,
Sylvia

Hi there,

It has been a busy world around me... but things are certainly not boring, lol.

A spring-summer challenge would be fun (if I can do it.) I'd love to take part.

My son had his hand surgery today, I think he is doing okay, he has kind of kept to himself tonight. It was a big procedure for what seemed so simple. They got the pellet out f his hand and he will be fine. He has such a big bandage that covers his entire hand.

I have lab work in the morning and have to fast after midnight. It's for my annual physical next week. I also see my new back doctor next week. I told my physical therapist today that the guy I had been seeing was a jack@$$ and she told me that that is what everybody said about him. We have been together for years and this is the first time she has ever said anything that was even a little bit negative about a doctor. It was almost a confirmation of my thoughts--and when I told her what he had said to me last week about my problem being "back pain" and that I was "normal," she was as flabbergasted as I was. Her answer was that "normal" doesn't look like the pain I deal with or the lack of strength and endurance in my back.

I wish you all a great week.

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Yay for summer being right around the corner! :o)

We're still in the process of unpacking & settling in to our new apartment. This place has less storage space, so we're going through & donating about half our stuff. I've got nearly an entire wardrobe that no longer fits me due to the weight I've lost so far.

I've got some catching up to do in my classes since I've missed a few in the last week due to the move.

We really like this place & I'm looking forward to some of my rewards revolving around doing some minor decorating around here :o)

Would anyone be up for a Spring - Summer challenge(s)? If so we can all throw out some ideas to get the ball rolling...

Welcome (back) Jazzy...

I keep thinking--and realizing--that when it is warmer, we do better with eating and exercise. I am as tired of this cold weather as I know how to be--but I realize that I start out weary of it and stay that way year after year. There is something to be said for looking at last year's blogs, journals and comments, lol.

I wish you all well this week--it is a good time to get focused on your goals and get ready for the coming summer dress. It really will get here, I just know it.

Best wishes to everyone!

Hi all...

With daylight savings time here to mix up our worlds, it is also a strong statement that spring is on the way. I hope that everyone is thinking about the changes they want to put into place in spring and what we can accomplish before summer gets here. This is a time of birth and rebirth in nature--and I think it is the same for ourselves.

I am looking forward to shirt sleeve weather and no coats and sunshine with natural vitamin D!! I am looking forward to the coming of budded trees and green grass--and being out doors for fun. I am looking forward to not needing to warm up the car. WooHoo!!

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Sylvia, I do not think it's anything to do with you or your leadership of the group. I think with the spark classes it just sort of happens because it's people who sign up within the same week... and although it might be 10,000 people on the team, some people who sign up for websites aren't necessarily serious or follow through with their original intent. So again, I wouldn't take it personal emoticon quiet a few people probably just fell off the wagon and haven't gotten back on (& sadly, some might not) but it has to do with each individual's life and their circumstances and decisions, so you didn't scare anyone away or let anyone down. I think you do an amazing job!!! Especially considering you're a mom of EIGHT! I'm only a mom of one, and that's plenty for me right now... and most days it is difficult enough, I have no idea how you have managed to raise 8 kids, but it's motivating to know you've handled being a mom to 7 more children than me emoticon it helps to keep me going when my daughter is fussy and I've got a headache and need a nap emoticon

I think you've been doing a great job!

Hi Heather,

I am hoping the work transition works well for you, sorry it is under such circumstances, but I hope that you will get to take advantage of the hours and being with your family.

Only one team member responded to my team email. I am feeling like I have let this group down in some unknown way and am going to contact Coach Jen to find out what I need to/ should do here. She wants me to be leader of a new spark class team, but I cannot consider that with the possibility that this team is having problems.

I will make any decisions I make very public for anyone who might be lurking and reading things here.

Take care all,
Sylvia

Hi everyone

Kind of a quiet thread lately. Just dropping in to say hello.

Started training my replacement at work today. Nice enough gal, but I think she would have a much easier time recalling how to do things if she took a few notes! Seriously, how does she expect to do things on her own tomorrow when there is no one there to remind her where to go or what to click on? Oh well, I guess she'll discover that soon enough.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Heather

Hi Everyone

I haven't been on much lately. DH had to take the computer in b/c it wasn't acting right. Turns out one of the cords was bad. Glad that was only a $20 fix! Seems to be working fine again!

GREENMAMA - may I officially welcome you to the team. You are right, reading the Spark is a real eye-opener.

Sylvia- sorry to hear you are still struggling with the snow and the cold. I have the opposite problem here in central Fl. Our church had a rummage sale today with the proceeds from the space rental to help fund a retreat they are planning. I very optimistically participated. I am glad to say I sold the pack n play, play yard, bouncy seat, a TON of baby clothes, toys, teethers, etc. among other things. However, I am now nursing a SERIOUS SUNBURN despite being careful to stay in the shade. I also had to endure a very stern lecture from my 4 year old about the importance of wearing sunscreen.

On the job front, several weeks ago I reluctantly requested to be transferred to another area at work namely to be separated a bit from a particular employee with a bad work ethic that I do not see eye to eye with. It's a shame because I love my current position. However, said employee consistently and knowingly makes huge errors that adversely affect my numbers and raise review. Since I have not been able to correct the problem, I needed to remove myself from it for my own sanity. New position starts in about a week and a half. I think it will work out for the best. I will be getting home by lunch time most of the days I work so I will have much more time with DH and the kiddies. I am really grateful that the general manager of the store I am in was so willing to work me into this position. I know it was not convenient for her, but she came through for me in a big way.

One of our local shopping centers is hosting a carnival that we took the kiddies to tonight along with the in-laws. My 4 year old was FINALLY big enough to ride bumper cars. She LOVED them! My NSV for the day occurred here tonight. They had this booth that deep fries everything from funnel cakes and twinkies to oreos and snickers. I am very pleased to say I successfully avoided purchasing ALL of the fried foods, cotton candy, carmel apples, etc...

Best to all. Have a great tomorrow!

Heather

Hi all,

I am worried about this team--there are over 10,000 members and I feel as if I am talking to myself more than anything. I think I'll write a team spark mail and find out if there is something else this team needs to do. Please share here or email me privately with your thoughts on the topic.

I'm sick right now--the exploration into why I've felt so yucky and out of it turns out that I'm a bit anemic and that I have pneumonia in both of my lungs. Today, I am staying in my chair and not stressing my body as I take the meds and do what the doc told me. He thought I should be admitted, but I really REALLY don't like to be int he hospital. I sure miss my exercise at the pool, but it was some of the problems I have been having breathing when I aqua jog that helped him to find out what was up with me.,

Anyway, I miss chatting with you all--I hope everyone is well and heading towards their goals with determination.

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Well, I've been checking back for any responses since I made that post, LOL, silly I know, but after reading The Spark I've been looking for people to give support and motivation to, as well as to occasionally receive motivation and support from when needed.

Welcome Val,

It is always nice to meet a fellow sparker. I agree with your comments about "The Spark." emoticon I felt like I simply "got it" far better and I understood the idea behind goals and the need to have them far better. I cannot say I took them seriously until I read the book.

Where is everybody else? I've been feeling a bit like I've been talking to myself lately and that is a bit disconcerting. I hope that I haven't chased anybody away. I've been asked to help lead another Spark Class team sometime and I need to know that I am doing things "right."

Take care of yourselves. I miss our regular chatting and hope everyone comes back soon.

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Hi everyone, I don't think I've ever introduced myself to the team emoticon I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and I hope I stick with being an active and consistent member this time around!

I FINALLY just bought The Spark this past Saturday and I'm roughly 1/3 done reading it. It has really opened my eyes and helped me understand more about the SparkPeople website, program, etc. In the past I was overwhelmed by all the tracking (food, exercise, streaks, etc.), all the information on here, teams, etc. etc. etc. I'm sure you all understand! But now that I know WHY all this stuff is so important, and to take baby steps, I'm feeling a spark getting started and finding new motivation emoticon Hopefully we can all work together to support one another on each of our's continued journey.

OK--is everybody else snowed in too? LOL I'm missing my friends here and hope that this is a case of everyone is busy and that there aren't any problems in your world.

We broke some records and had the second largest snowfall ever here on Wednesday, 16.7 inches which was followed by another 3 inches of snow. We will have snow around here for a long time to come--it is still pretty and they are scurrying to find places to dump some of the stuff. The snow was followed by some really nasty frigid temps-- 13 below with gusting winds making a 45 below wind chill factor, so nobody has really been able to play in this snow or wintery weather. Our school district gave in and took Wednesday off, but that was it when everyone else except our little 3 district consortium took Thursday off as well. I was pretty irritated by the lack of sensitivity towards our safety and the safety of children in their being so pigheaded to not take the second day off. I guess it causes some administrator a lot of work to change the schedule and that would be what is really important (yes, grumble, grumble, grumble.) I am glad that our parents had more sense than our decision makers, I am guessing about half of the school was out anyway. If it had been my children, my common sense would have overridden their decisions to hold school as well.

I've been struggling with my back issues and after a very unsatisfying visit to my back doctor who has ordered tests after telling me that there is "nothing surgical he can do for my back," I put my issues out in a blog and on a thread of my OA of the lower back team. I was led to the idea that I need a new doc and I figured out how I am going to find one. Next month when I have my physical, I am going to ask my PCP for a referral. I am thinking it might be time to get out of this area and go to University Hospitals or Mayo or somewhere in Peoria or Chicago. I have been counting steps and collecting data and after I have been sitting and am at rest for a decent period of time (over a half an hour,) it takes about 16 steps before my back pain is upon me. That is not fair and I think I should be able to do better. I also think that there may be something non-surgical out there, because that is the only thing this doc wants to try. I certainly can ask in a few weeks.

I need to get going, this is my special day--the first Saturday of the month--when I go out to lunch with my best friend. It is such a wonderful idea. We both schedule it like everything else so the time is guarded from interruptions.

Have a warm and safe weekend!!

Good Morning,

It has been quite a week--and it is only Tuesday. I know the thought for today is the weather--our stores here were all out of bread last night. Really people? We have wintery weather here this time each year and this is not worth hoardng food items over. They have predicted up to 16 inches, but that isn't going to lock anyone in the midwest in their homes for more than maybe a day. As of now, things don't look so awful outside--it was slippery when I left school after my late parent night activities, but it was also snowing!! I think we might hear too many predictions sometimes.

My day is full of my own medical appointments and I am hoping not to be deterred from getting to them. It is my plan to go to work for at least part of the day and then play it by ear. My back is in trouble again and this appointment my ortho helped me to get for today couldn't have come at a better time. I struggled with spasms in a part of my back where I have never had them before last night and finally let the pain meds put me to sleep. I hope he has an answer that isn't more of the same old tests with no helpful information to go along with them.

Stay warm and safe today everyone--maybe we could even enjoy some winter beauty if stuff gets closed for a day or two. It is hard to believe that snow is beautiful the way we all react to news of it coming anymore.

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

This is a strange little coincidence Jan. Last night, I was at the hospital with my daughter and was trying to get a bit caught up here while she--and soon my husband napped. I was thinking a lot abut you and why I hadn't chatted with you in a while. I was wondering what I was going to need to do to catch up with you. I definitely believe in that sixth sense or karma or whatever--anyway, thank goodness you are back. Please give you friend my best wishes and let her know that I will help her out in any way I can as well. (If you want to send me her user name here, I will make her my friend and introduce myself...send me a spark mail. I am guessing positve support will give her a hand.)

As for me, I'm just punting along here. I have to leave for physical therapy in a bit. The doctor just told us that Megan will be here for 3-4 more days. I'm not sure how much more time off work i can take, but I guess I'll do what I have to do.

Take care everybody,
Sylvia

Good Morning, SparkFamily (you are more like family, than just friends). It has been way too long since I've checked in. I've allowed myself to be distracted by life and my weight loss journey has paid the price. Although, things could be worse, I am behind on my journey with nothing to blame but myself. But, the LORD is good, and sent an angel in disguise last night to remind me why I need to be here.

She is a young friend from our old house. She, too, struggles with weight issues. She saw me on Facebook last night (11 ish) and instant messaged me that she needed someone to talk to and was I available. So, we started going back and forth about what was bothering her. It has to do with a much anticipated trip to Costa Rica and the fact that at her size, many of the things she was looking forward to doing were not available due to weight limits. Needless to say, she was (is) very upset and disappointed.

So, I started to mention SP to her. She said she already is a member - since the beginning of the New Year, and was having problems with the site. So, I got her number from her, and called her up (yes, at o'dark thirty in the night). We talked for a while and it was determined that I could not help her as it was a technical issue, but sent her to the technical area of the message boards to ask her question. She told me she had thought about doing so, but chickened out.

While all of this was going on, I realized how much I've missed "seeing" my friends and having their support. So, with God's help, I am back...hopefully for good. I do know there will be a week in Feb. that will be tough, but not impossible to do. So, I am recommitting myself to finish losing the weight I started to lose in July. And I will become better at eating and living a healthy lifestyle.

I hope to talk with you all later this evening!

Blessings,
jan

Howdy,

I am part of my own problem. I'm about to blog and share how crazy my week is--and I am my hardest task master. My job is so important, and it is important to me, but I need to get back on track and not put it in the way of my well-being. There has to be some way for me to learn that.

As for kick boxing--that is beyond me and my knee replacements, but it sure looks like fun. I hope that you all are getting your workouts in.

Take care one and all!!

hi all

Thanks Sylvia - I really enjoy aerobic kickboxing - it's a great way to releive the tension from the day. I am trying not to do only kickboxing for my cardio as I suspect that was a big reason I had so much of a problem with my hip a few months ago. Live and learn. Now I just don't kick quite as high and alternate with walking.

Hope you are feeling better soon Sylvia!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi Heather and everyone,

It's good to have you back. Enjoy those exercise videos, they sound a bit intense for this body, but I'm betting you'll have fun with them.

It has been an entirely hectic week at work and home. I am doing my best to take care of things, but I am also weary of it.

I am going to the pool after a pretty painful time at physical therapy tonight. Sometimes it is my back causing all of the grief, not my shoulder. Tonight, it was everything.

Take care everybody,
Sylvia

Just dropping in to hay hello to everyone. Also, I wanted to thank everyone for their support and kind words over the last couple of weeks. I think I am mostly caught back up at work. January is one of our biggest months for registries in bridal land (everyone that got engaged over the holidays can't wait to register) and I had a whole slew of registrations come in while I was out on bereavement. It took me the whole week to get all of the paperwork done!

I decided to shake up my exercise routine a bit. It had been seriously lacking since the whole hip issue. I just never got back on track. It didn't help matters any that my DVR ate my 2 favorite workouts! I still don't know what happened. No one will cop to deleting them...I went out and bought some exercise DVD's (one aerobic walking and 2 kickboxing). Now that I have laid out money and the routines can't be erased, I have no excuse not to workout. I took a walk with Leslie tonight and was pleased to be able to do the full 3 mile workout without feeling like I would die!

Gotta get some shut eye before my kiddies start waking me up! Have a great rest of the week everyone!

Hi there,

I am surprised to see such little traffic on our team. Does anyone have any ideas of what we might need to pick things up here? I am worried that we are not reaching everyone who needs a team. (I know that asking here is like preaching to the choir, but I am not sure who else I should ask.) I do know that my own Spark Class team is pretty quiet these days, I don't go there very often either. I think that might happen over time, but this team is pretty young. Anyway, your input on this will help me a lot.

I also know that people have had a lot going on lately. Heather is back in town after her grandmother's funeral. I think Pam is about back after the busy holiday season at her work. As for me, I am almost more of a weekend warrior with my school duties.

Please let me know what you might need here on our team.
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Hello everyone,

i just wanted to touch base with you and remind you to visit some of the other threads here on our page. Please take a moment and visit another team member's page as well. You can pick someone off of the current leader board or down at the bottom of the page on the team list. This helps the person you visit and it helps you because you might find a god spark buddy to take this journey with.

Have a great week--let's all stick to our plan so we can reach those all-important goals of fitness, weight loss, and good nutrition.

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Hi all,

It is great to have our team members coming back--I have missed several of you. I think Jan is a real asset to our group too, Denise, I am totally with you. Heather, my prayers are with you and your family during this really tough and painful time. It is an awfully snowy day to be here in IL--I guess your family will have a special time in snow they don't get to deal with in this complicated time.

I hope that everyone is getting settled into their new year in a positive and happy way. I had to call in today to take one of the guys to the doctor (my turn. my husband took another one of them yesterday) and then off to my own appointment with the cardiologist this afternoon. I did go to the pool and got my exercise in early today between these appointments. When I went to get my surgery clearance from my heart guy just over 3 weeks ago, I was chewed out a bit over missing an appointment over a year ago. Today was my "make-up." He told me that I was supposed to have come back for an angiogram due to the abnormality in my stress test back then. I am so confused. I remember an "abnormality," but I wouldn't have forgotten an angiogram. All of this goes back to the big swelling in my legs caused by Celebrex after our big trip to Florida some 4 or 5 years ago. Before all was said and done, I had a lot of trouble breathing and was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. I had a chemical stress test and it indicated some artery clogging and he put me on meds for that with follow ups. A year later we did another stress test, it was far easier than that very awful first one where I felt like I was dying. He told me that the arteries were looking okay, but he found a small portion of my heart that was "dead." He insisted that I shouldn't worry and that it wasn't serious. I went on to ... well, everything and everywhere I have been since then. This was big news to me today, in any case. Now, they have a "new" stress test that I need to do in a month when my shoulder is in better shape. It is a PET scan procedure, but the directions sure look like the previous ones. I don't know what to think. My father died at age 69 with heart disease and I certainly have a background for such a thing--but my most recent lab work and EKG and everything have been textbook perfect. This guy was pretty grim today and I am feeling like a naughty and very stupid child. I am no longer experiencing any shortness of breath, leg swelling, chest pain, anything.

Some days, doctors are just an issue--and then when I shared that stuff with my husband, his comment was that maybe I would be healthy if I didn't go to doctors. (That has always been his strange, macho point of view...) However, I feel pretty good except for all of my ortho/ arthritis related stuff. Oh my, I guess I will find out in a month, one way or another. He gave me a stern warning to call him if I felt any chest pain or related discomfort between now and my appointment in a month. (And I am worried that I won't be able to do the test in a month if it requires raising your arms like the previous ones did. I am 3 weeks post op today and my ortho says 4 months of healing. I see him in another couple of weeks, hopefully he will know.) It may always be something--maybe that is how I missed that appointment anyway... Freudian slip or something! I don't think I am going to use my energy or time worrying about this right now--and I can only do what I can do. Anyway, that is how my day has went--and now, I am home in the evening instead of putting up with the Friday crowds and crazy families at the pool.

Have a wonderful and active weekend!
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Hi, I am back on track after a temporary hiatus. If it were not for the support and encouragement from Jan (ROLLINGSTONEMOM), I may have given up completely. I can attest that having SP Friends truly helps your weightloss/lifestyle changing journey! Jan you are awesome!

Hi All
Just dropping by to say hello.

Sylvia, I LOVE the look of the new page. Great job.

I will not be online much over the next couple of weeks. My Nana passed away early on 01/01. We will be leaving for Illinois either tomorrow or Wednesday. I am not sure how long I will be there, but I will not have internet access while there.

I look forward to speaking to everyone when I get back.

Heather

Happy New Year, SP Class 6/27!

After a month long "small break", I think I'm back. I don't know what happened other than life got much busier than I expected it to during the holiday season. Oh well.

Although I did not lose weight, I didn't gain, either, so, I'll take it. I also was on steroids for most of the month, so, I'll really be happy with not gaining (especially since the no bake cookies seemed to know my secret code and called me all the time!).

I hope 2011 is your year to accomplish the goals you have set. Remember, although long term goals are great to set, the best way to accomplish them is to look at them in the short term - one day at a time. If you mess up today, that does NOT end your goal, it is just a road block. Start again tomorrow. Just pick yourself up and dust yourself off and begin anew.

emoticon

Here's to a new you in 2011!

Hi Everybody,

It has been a quiet day here at our house and I have done a great job staying out of the holiday goodies all over the house. As a matter of fact, I turned down the brownies that my husband made twice--and even when they brought me cookies, I gave them back. I think I have found my way back and my resolve to do things that are simply best for me and my lead will help the others around here as well. My biggest problems today were getting some activity in and I did most of that through household chores. My shoulder doesn't allow for much of that--and where it stops,my back starts. I found myself getting busy with things and then having to call somebody for some help. It was a strange way to do things, but it worked. The pool/ fitness center is open on Sunday and that helps me the most. Thank goodness for the pool.

I've been working at a new look here and in pulling people back into our team. The more support we can build, the more success that everybody will have. Please stop and visit a team member's blog if you have a moment. All of this works together for everyone's best interest.

Happy New Year to you and yours! Best wishes in 2011!
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Happy New Year to all! I haven't used these pages much - BUT have been dedicated with the nutrition and fitness trackers. Have lost 30 # since the end of June!3- 5 more to go. I've gone down 2 sizes in clothes - starting to purchase the new wardrobe. I'm 5'9'' at 150 ; had set a goal of 145 - so we'll see. The biggest help was the tracking of my nutrition to keep it all in balance, and I am doing cardio and strengthening regularly. At 63 I have a cranky back to protect.
I look forward to 2011 and maintaining my weight while strengthening my body. All to enjoy my life!
I have recommended the site to friends and even my doctors as a resource for people.
Thank you for being here! emoticon

Woo-hoo. I'm the first! Have three little grandchildren still sleeping so going to seize the moment. As I look back, I have never been more pleased than when I made the decision to come on board to SparkPeople. It was great to be placed immediately into a "class" (Class of June27-July3rd) because it gave an immediate connection to others. Interacting has been proven to be a huge factor in weight loss success. It did take a while for me to get to know people and become comfortable with communicating with "strangers" but many are no longer strangers and it definitely has made the difference. I thank Sylvia very much for her dedication and hard work in keeping things going and for all her encouragement. Wish all you Sparkers the best in 2011. For some the journey has been more difficult but remember that each day is a new day and a new chance. Keep Sparking.

Hello everyone,

We are taking on a "new look" for our new year!! Please join us here and let's talk about whatever is on your mind--from spark to people, lol!!

As we have been a team for about a half of a year, this thread is designed for all kinds of sharing. Some members are still relatively new here at SP because they joined, but haven't had the time to really dig in around this site. Others are really experts here and have gotten to know the program and all it has to offer. Most of us are somewhere in between. All are perfectly acceptable and the chat thread is designed for us to share what we have learned, what we want to learn, and our own observations and needs. Anything goes.

So here's wishing you all a great year in 2011!!
