There are a few articles and some discussions. I just did a search of "cost of healthy foods" http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutr ition_articles.asp?id=511
One thing I noticed when I shop- if you are buying junk (empty calorie foods), you tend to eat more since you really are not getting the nutrition your body needs. Yesterday at the grocery store, I noticed that you need to really watch prices, I bring a calculator with me to figure costs. (cost per pound/ ounce) to compare and find the cheapest size to buy. I could have bought a pound of baby carrots for $1.00- these were all washed and ready to eat, OR I could get 2lbs or regular carrots for the same price. Yes, I have to wash and prepare these but that also give me something to do so I am not eating out of boredom. You can do it- plan ahead before going to the store and make a list to stick to. Good Luck

I know how you feel, really I do. I too started SP over 2 years ago. I lost over 35lbs. My goal was to lose 42lbs. Well, things started slow, then picked up. I surely thought I hit my goal by one year. NOPE! I started hitting plateau at every corner. Finally a few more pounds loss after a year and a half. Surely with only 4lbs to go I could make it before or at least by my two year Sparkversay! Aahh NO! In fact, a month after my 2 yr SP I went on vacation and gained in one week 4lbs! Yep! Almost 2 yo to lose 38lbs and in one week gain 4lbs. I was hoping it would just fall off since it was overeating(even healthy foods) with a sprinkle of high calorie, high fat and most damage from more sugar eating than normal. Again, no way was the lbs coming off. I too felt discourage but than I think of the (at least) 30lbs (not 38lbs) I did lose and not gain back. It is August and the extra weight is still lingering.
I truly believe, with working out & eating right, which includes mostly portion control with all foods first, then eating mostly healthier food a close second. along with high calorie, high fat and high sugar foods kept to a minimum, will eventually pay off. This will help with my heath for sure and sooner or later with the weight loss.
Your 1.5lb weight gain is to be forgiven. It happens! You need to focused on your journey's already lost and the fact it stay lost weight. In the mean while, remember healthier foods don't have to cost more than garbage foods. A head of lettuce(under $3) is actually cheaper than a bag of chips (almost $4). Potatoes are not that expensive and cheaper than a bag of pre cut french fries. Wash a potato, place it in microwave to cook it. Once done top it with almost anything your like that is a healthier choice. Half a cup of any type of beans, steamed veggies with lemon juice, salt & pepper. Even butter if you use very little or light butter. Cheese a table spoon or a serving of low fat cheese. Soups are not expensive, especially if you make your own then freeze. But again, low sodium can of soup (broth base) are not that costly. Check for sales. And yes add, beans and veggies to the soup for a hearty meal.
You and DH need to eat so you have to budget it in. Think coupons, sales and forget that healthy foods cost more than junk food. This is not necessarily true. You need to do more research. Actual SP has a article giving the low down on cost of healthy foods vs. junk foods. Plenty of affordable option...you will be pleasantly surprised.
Search the article...I wish I could remember the title for you!
Remember you are not alone. I am a click away if you need me!

Okay.. I know I havenít posted in here for a long time, but Iím really in a discouraged state of mind right now.
I set a goal a week before July ended to lose 10 lbs by my birthday (which is in 19 days). I feel I took a step backward this morning when my scale said 1.6 gained. Oddly enough, I know what I did Ė gave into my boredom and ate/drank things I shouldnít have. I exercised this week Ė well, twice: burned 908 calories this week. I have to admit when I saw the number on the scale, I cried. Thinking Iíve done well.
Right now, my husband and I donít have the funds to get the healthy stuff or anything at all for that matter. So I have very limited food choices. This is really hard for me right now.
