emoticon Maybe again today? We have had 2 days of much needed rain this week but back into the high eighties low nineties for heat again. I did get all my gardens weed in between the rain days. Been off again on the eating emoticon but have been better with exercise, using the treadmill and my l little weights.

So glad you are back on track Desi! Not sure what you meant about the "big D" but gathered it was a negative. Well kick that in the butt lol and go girl go. By the way-I went shopping one day forgetting I had put eggs on to boil. When I cam back and opened the door to the kitchen my Irish Setter, who had been curled beside the door, came tumbling out as did all the smoke. I was so so lucky not to lose my girl or the house. A ruined pot was a small price. Glad you caught your egg much sooner.

Boxing Rhonda? You are always stepping it up!

emoticon Rhonda. I have done that, sad to say, more than once. I will hear the coffee and suddenly go oh s*** and try to get the cup under to catch at least some of it.

Just finished breakfast with the intention to get on the treadmill again and do another half hour-making myself go easy on myself. I also dug out my 5 lb. hand weights and will do a couple of small routines with them.

So it is Friday-any plans ladies?

emoticon emoticon emoticon Here too Rhonda. It was already near 90 before 9 a.m. this morning. And still dry dry dry. A bit of exercise virtually every day is dragging a 100 feet of hose as I water all the dumb gardens we put in. And I am with you Rhonda-Bring on the Fall!

BUT today I finally reintroduced myself to my treadmill. emoticon Been a long time buddy so despite the creaking and groaning from both of us I did walk 30 minutes. I cured my usual do more, faster more incline self reminding me I was almost 4 years older than the last time I was on it and really out of shape so kept the speed, time and incline less. Still, feeling very happy and hope I can keep at it.

Desi it sounds like things are really working for you. I am going to look into the keto. I had sort of been moving in that direction, less carbs and more proteins and natural fats. I too recall the Krebs cycle from school, funny how things that seemed so what at one time can come back to haunt.

Coconut oil and inflammation? Will look into that too.

Glad you are both doing well.

Well I am just learning about all of this keto lifestyle it is something I learned about back in the day when I was in college and never understood it then known also as the Krebs cycle .... A lot of body builders use it as well.
So I'm doing both at the same time intermittent fasting and keto ...so as for the fasting part I'm stopping my eating about 9:00pm and then my first meal would be at 12:30 or 1:00 so we're looking at a window of 14-16 hours. There are things you do to help you last the window, the first one I have tried is by eating a tablespoon of fat in my coffee, coconut oil!!! It WORKS! I AM not thinking about food I am satisfied, and I'm finding I have tons of energy.

Desi what is your eating window? Are you doing IF every day or a several times a week. How long have you been doing keto?

Hi Desi-so glad to see you posting emoticon

Fatty Liver is fairly complex but yes, I would say it is bad. www.liver.ca/liver-disease/types/fat

has some information on it.

I get up in the morning and look at myself and wonder how the H I ever got as fat as I did back in 2004-2006. That weight is about 40 pounds more than I am now. And now is about 60 pounds heavier than I was when I lost the weight back in 2006-2008. So I hear you when you say 'crazy' I am going to look up keto lifestyle but know I could never do fasting but if it is healthy and it works for you...

Laundry day-yuck. because we pay a horrible amount for hydro, you would be shocked what we pay, and they give a wee tiny break for doing it during specific days/hours I am stuck doing it on weekends.

Have a happy weekend

That is sad to hear that people who have the surgery are not changing their eating habits. Katrina does eat healthy, she loves fruits and veg but she is the same as me, she also loves snacks. She cooks too and loves her own cooking, high fat and sweets. So I can only hope that it works for her. She is 5'4" and close to 250 lbs and is already experiencing health issues and she is not yet 30. Hopefully, by the time the education phase is over she will be more firmly on the correct track.

Do you have weekend plans?

Good Morning Elizabeth emoticon I think the process for weight loss surgery use to be that way here, wow it has changed, now they are in and out in a hurry. I do think there is some education based on the type of weight loss surgery people choose. I know several people that have had various forms of the surgery and not any of the eat healthy. Glad you had a nice day at the casino. I don't think much beats a beautiful sunset.

Not sure how it works in the US but it is a bit complicated here in Ontario to get the surgery. She first was referred from her primary care doctor and is now going through a process, minimum one year, meeting with doctors and attending education seminars. I am not fully cognizant of the entire process but she is still waiting to hear from the surgeon and has another education seminar first.

Oh yes, a/c is a God send, especially this summer.

Good Morning Rhonda emoticon Your wish is also mine but that support may not be there. Al seems to think, no matter what is going on that he is the invulnerable exception.

I did pass this message along to my niece who is in the process of being approved for Bariatric surgery. She said she knew about the risk with the rapid weight loss but that the doctors have told her the supplements etc should prevent that.

That sounds like a fun day you have planned. I stay away from casinos-too tempted into my all-or-nothing attitude. Al likes the cards, the few times we went, and I had my container of coins to feed the slots with strict rules of no more once those coins were gone. Enjoy your Saturday!

Oh, you like cucumber-last night I did a sort of cucumber salad, very easy. just sliced cucumbers, greek plain yogurt and dill. We loved it.

Good afternoon Ladies.

Desi if you don't have a mandolin you should have one. I went without one for the majority of my life. When I went to my s-i-l to learn the family recipe for sauerkraut she mentioned how tedious slicing and chopping the cabbage was. I went out and bought her a mandolin and then saw what a great job it did. I use it now for the sauerkraut and anytime I make scalloped potatoes. I will use it later today to slice cucumbers and onion for a cucumber salad. We could not use it for the sweet potato treats as they are so hard. However, Al has an electric meat slicer and that works a treat on those suckers.

Rhonda, yes, HEAT and humidity. Today feels like Florida did last season so any time outside is limited. We have already smashed the record for number of days above 30 (86F) and it only continues. Today is the most humid so far but still no sign of rain at all.

So Ladies, I was with Al on Wednesday when he had his first visit with a gastroenterologist. They are concerned he may have Fatty Liver and the ultrasounds were inconclusive. The reason I bring this up is that I learned not only are you at risk, being obese, for Fatty Liver but that risk percentage is very very high. We came home with a pamphlet and I am in a cold sweat. Of course I have gained back so much weight I am firmly back in the obese category. I also love my sweets and my wine which are also risk factors. Also I was shocked when we learned FRUCTOSE and diet sodas also greatly increase the risk. So, just passing that info along as I process it and try to get my weight loss mojo going. Oh-and just to make a complete shambles of everything, losing TOO fast is another risk factor.

Cheers Elizabeth

Desi the mushrooms are kind of chewy. the taste depends on what spices you use. I have been putting lemon pepper on them. The best batch of cucumber chips took 18 hours. I'm going to do another batch this week and put cinnamon on them. emoticon

Elizabeth is the heat wave headed your way? emoticon We had a brief burst of rain yesterday with a lot of thunder. All it did was make the humidity go even higher! The over cast sky was nice.

Good Morning emoticon emoticon I agree with Elizabeth a dehydrator with a temperature control is key. I think you can keep the chips for a long time as long as they are in an air tight container. I like starting the dehydrator late in the afternoon and running it all night. Designed you are going to need a mandolin to make the slices uniform and it takes time to slice all the food. I have been cheating with the mushrooms and buying pre sliced ones. Elizabeth I have thought about doing zucchini chips, I have not found any good zucchini.

What a great idea with the temp control ! I use to have one with several trays but don't remember a temp control, I think my dad, sold it on at a garage sale because it is nowhere to be found! I will look for a square as well. I forgot how much I love to dehydrate things,, lol....great never thought of herbs either !!!
Have you two heard of pickle ball?

emoticon I agree with Rhonda Desi awesome on the Pickleball.

We have a round dehydrator, did not even know you could get a square one. I plan to dehydrate some herbs today and would recommend, if that interests you to make sure you get one that you can regulate the heat on. Our first one was either on or off and this one is much better. It also came with a tray special for herbs.

I think I will look at doing zucchini chips Rhonda. Al planted them in his garden and we have already had two and I think that they always produce in abundance. Can you store the chips for awhile?

Cheers Elizabeth

Way to go Desi, you are rocking pickle ball! emoticon When it comes to dehydrator, I went with one that was on sale emoticon I also bought it because it was square, which means you can put more stuff on it. I made red paperclips last night, pretty yummy.
