Oh, I guess my goals are the same as they are every year. Get more sleep and be on time for all of my classes. So far, I am doing well with the 'be on time' thing, but 'get more sleep' just doesn't seem to happen.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Susy, so glad you survived the peanut butter and cracker incident!

We got to talk to both our kids on Christmas. Mike called as we were going in for dinner. Michelle called that evening. I think it was the next morning there. She is about 12 hours ahead of us.

Hope everyone has a happy new year! emoticon

emoticon SUSY, I am glad that you survived the incident.

I have certainly had a lot of 'alone time' during the holidays. My youngest son has always been one to be 'out and about.' He is very social, and always wants to be 'doing something.' My oldest son is the exact opposite, or he WAS, UNTIL, he got a girlfriend. Now HE is always 'out and about.'

HMMMMM...maybe it is time that I gave a little thought to this 'out and about' thing, and tried it for myself! emoticon

Okay, this is embarrassing... I thought I was going to choke to death tonight on PEANUT BUTTER!

Yep... stuck too much on a small piece of stale cracker, then shoved it in my mouth. (Hubby ate almost a whole package of crackers but didn't want the last three; so I thought I'd eat them instead of throw them away.)

Even the off-brand of peanut butter was dry; not moist.

Choke! Cough! Choke! Grabbed a glass of water to drink and was wondering if that would make things worse. A possible, EMBARRASSING obituary flashed before my eyes: "She expired unexpectedly from swallowing stale crackers and (too much) peanut butter in one bite!"

Silly! I know. But I'm so glad to be ALIVE and typing this! LOL

Sue, I think this is just one of the many reasons that we DEEPLY value the time that we do get to have with our families at other times of the year!

I did get to text with my son this afternoon; so I'm content with that.

And we'll talk on the phone with our two granddaughters tomorrow.

In the meantime, I've got Christmas music playing and pumpkin pound cake (delicious!) baking in the oven!

Oh! One more thing... I really enjoy going to the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving or Christmas. Why? Because there's a joyous sense of camaraderie. People are picking up last minute items---or doing their entire shopping. And for the most part, there seems to be a sense of "we" in the air! It's not there (that I can detect) any other time.

It's just my husband and I for the holiday also. I am fixed our holiday dinner tonight. Tomorrow we are going to big buffet at the Jefferson, a big old hotel downtown. To have Christmas dinner there, you have to get your reservations in June!

Our son is deployed. His family is visiting his wife's relatives in Asia, and our daughter who is a FedEx pilot in Hong Kong never gets home during the holidays since that's their busy season. No one can take vacation between Thanksgiving and Christmas;

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! emoticon

Our celebration won't be traditional since we're away from home and family. (FYI: We already celebrated Christmas with them while we were still back home at Thanksgiving.)

Anyway, I'm fixing my husband one of his favorite meals: lasagna! I also plan to play Christmas movies while I'm in the kitchen cooking! Looking forward to it!!!

I am 'popping' in again. I have so much to do before tomorrow, but I keep taking breaks and getting online. Oh yeah, I hear ya, SUSY about habits. I wish I could just go do what I need to do and be done with it, but NOOOOOOOOOOO, I keep stopping to get online. I am alone now, and that is my best time to get online. However, that is also, my best time to do everything else that I need to be doing. So I will just be here a few minutes and get back to doing what I need to be doing, even though it is NO FUN at all. So, I am in the habit of getting online a lot, and I have the bad habit of letting things around the house GO! I guess I will try to work on that in the new year!

Hi Sue and Pam!

Boy, Pam! You really blew me away with your back-to-back activities! It -did- sound fun! And that was a very well-deserved nap, once you finally got one!!!

Sue, I do need to get back into the habit of dropping in. Regretfully, it's so easy to stop a GOOD habit... while keeping our bad ones! LOL

DH and I just got home from some friends' house and playing cards. We played Phase 10. I learned the game a little over a year ago and don't get to play it as frequently as I'd like, but it sure is a fun game!

Yes Sue, it was a lot of fun and both events were held for a good cause. The Friday night 'thing' was to collect canned goods and gifts for those in need, and the Saturday Zumbathon was for "Toys for Tots." Both events had a very good turnout, and I am guessing a lot of canned goods and gifts were received on Friday night and I saw the huge pile of toys collected at the Zumbathon. So it was all very nice.

Oh, I also hope everyone has a very MERRY CHRISTMAS, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR filled with MANY BLESSINGS!

I was at a Charity Dance on Friday evening, and boy did I dance! emoticon I went with my youngest son (over 21) and we did not get home until around 2:30 AM. OK...so THEN, I didn't get to bed until around 4:30 BECAUSE I had to be at a Zumbathon on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM, and I had a lot of stuff to get together for that. There I danced for almost two hours. Where I am going with this is when I got home from the zumbathon, I took a three hour nap and I would have loved to have napped longer. I was worn out! I guess all of that dancing caught up with me. emoticon

Checking in from Gulf Shores, AL... where it's hot and humid!!!

We had our windows (and front door) open earlier, but now that it's night, I've shut the windows and door and turned on the AC.

After a quick shower, I'll be retiring to clean sheets---that makes for a very restful night!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to ALL, too!

Same weather here, SUE. Warm today, but cloudy, dreary, and muggy. Right now it is raining very hard...I mean REALLY hard. Hope it clears up soon because I had planned to go shopping today or tonight. Of course, since I am an extreme procrastinator, I can always go TOMORROW! emoticon

70's today and tomorrow! I love this warm weather. We should be able to finish raking our yard. We have a few trees that drop late. So we always have to do a late rake or the leaves from those trees are still there in the spring!

Happy holidays to everyone!

The bad weather is coming our way. My car said it was 76 degrees when I left my house at 2 p.m. I went in to teach a class, and when I came out at 3:30 p.m. the car said I was 59 degrees. We are supposed to have a high tomorrow of 45 and ice Sunday a.m. emoticon

CONGRATS Rachel! How exciting to get off to such a positive start!

Sue, I have quickly become spoiled to this great weather!!!

DH & I went to a Christmas musical this evening. I do have to admit that it's been an adjustment to try to "get in the holiday mood" when I'm used to the much colder temperatures. Somehow sand, surf and sun don't mesh with my internal feelings about Christmas!

Rachael: Glad to hear your classes are going well.

Suzy: Your weather sounds good. We've been in the 60's the last couple days and are supposed to get 2 days in the 70's here in Virginia before we get cold again.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Yeah, I'm really LIKING the thought of ending 2013 S-T-R-O-N-G!!! Thanks Carol!

Decorating:
Here in my RV, I've learned to not put out too much or it makes me feel claustrophobic. So I just put out a few holiday things...

Black Friday:
I didn't go shopping since I was traveling. But I did make an online purchase on Friday so that I could get a Black Friday special price!

Arrived in Gulf Shores, AL SAFELY today!
Took three long days of driving... but there wasn't any problems along the way---for that I am THANKFUL. When we arrived here around 3-ish, lots of people were outside; either visiting with one another and/or walking their dogs. They were in short sleeves and some in capris. Also, many RVs had their windows and doors open! Temp was about 65 degrees. All I've got to say is: REALLY LOVING THIS OVER MIDWEST WINTERS!!!! LOL

Christmas decorating today. Not as much as usual because we are leaving Dec. 26 and not having company for Christmas. So no need to get too decorated. emoticon

No black Friday for me. Its too crazy and I think its just awful some stores are now opening on thanksgiving, I'd rather not support that. Internet shopping is so much easier.
Today started of with a good hard insanity class and I'll be taking kiddo swimming here in about an hour. Its shaping up to be a very nice Saturday!

No black Friday for me either. I used to do it back when stores first started opening early and almost no one got up early. I was done shopping by 10 when things got crowded back then. Now I let my fingers do the walking on the internet and have gifts shipped direct. It saves a lot of trouble!

No Way, Jose. No Black Friday shopping for me. However, I don't really do much shopping for anything that most people are looking for on sale. We have no little children in our family now, and big items are too expensive even on sale for me to give as gifts. I know people were out there though, even camping out. I don't think there was ever anything that I wanted that would cause me to camp out or even wait in a very long line to buy. That's just me, though. I know a lot people really enjoy the Black Friday thing. I hope they got all they were waiting for.

emoticon emoticon Happy turkey day! Hope everyone had a nice day.

We did the going out thing too. For a long time now, whenever we don't have company coming for a holiday, we go out for dinner. Since our son is deployed and our daughter is a fedex pilot in Asia (never gets home for the holidays), it was just my husband and I. So we went out for a nice meal.

We really like left over turkey though, so I will smoke a turkey over the weekend!

Teaching classes both tomorrow and Saturday!

Hello Everyone,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to ALL! I hope you all have a great day! We decided not to do the party thing this year and to meet at a restaurant instead. All of my immediate family is here, and we see each other all of the time. We put our heads together and decided to do the 'restaurant' thing this year. No one has to cook, clean up, or spend a lot of money. All we have to do is show up. It works for me! emoticon

Gulf Shores will be GREAT, SUSY! How nice to spend the winter there. I am envious.

Goodness gracious! I've been MIA again from this thread!

Welcome back Leah!

Carol, thank you for the holiday wishes! Turkey day is tomorrow and I've got so much to start on TODAY!

Sue, thank you for the "unbirthday" wishes! LOL (That was cute!)

Pam, I had the best chuckle on 11/12 when you started my early birthday greetings! It was great to keep smiling about that all that day as other bday wishes trickled in!

Dr. Oz said, "A smile will trigger the release of serotonin, the feel-good brain chemical that will instantly perk up your mood."

See?! With all that smiling I did that day, you (and everyone that sent me greetings) gave me a gift!

Okay, as mentioned, I have a zillion things to do in prep for tomorrow. PLUS, we are expecting to leave the Kansas City area on Friday. So there's even MORE to get done! I will definitely be MIA (or very spotty) on being present for the next week while we travel down to Gulf Shores.

Love & kisses!

THANKS, SUE...Yes, only one more COLD Saturday night unless it rains us out. Since the track is a dirt (gumbo) track, rain cancels the races. I hope you will enjoy your trip to Florida. That sounds like a GREAT time.

SUSY, I am glad you got back to your exercising today. When I was off 5 weeks when I had my last baby (who will be 29 on Sunday) for exercise, I danced. Of course, I love to dance, so that was a fun workout for me. It worked too, when I returned to the gyms when he was 5 weeks old, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I was supposed to go back at 6 weeks, but an instructor who was subbing for me broke her toe, so they called me back at 5 weeks. I was ready to get back with my normal routine.

No, I probably won't see Gulf Shores again. I am not a traveler, but for about two years many years ago, we lived in Gulf Port. It was when we were living there that we went to Gulf Shores, and we went again a few years later after we'd moved back to Memphis. I loved living in Gulf Port because it was on the beach, but the beach at Gulf Shores is better. Actually, I was in Gulf Port during Hurricane Camille which was sometime in the late 60's. It really tore up the cities along the beach, but I went back there later, and it was all rebuilt and better than before.

I hope you all have a GREAT DAY!

HUGS

Yes! Yes, Sue, I did get back to it today! And thanks, Pam, for your encouragement! However, I -thought- I was going to follow a 6-week Biggest Loser Challenge, but...

I sat down and watched it (level 1) for the entire 30 minutes. I just felt it's more than I can do right now. So...

I pulled out my three Jillian Michael's dvds: 30 Day Shred, Banish Fat/Boost Metabolism, and No More Trouble Zones. No! I did not do those routines! Not exactly, anyway. I did the warm-ups from all three of them!

Right off the bat, when she has you do the jumping jacks, even with my athletic shoes on, I hurt my ankle... the very first jump. So I did a substitute for the jumping and kept going. (Note: Stupid ankle is the one that I had polio in as a child; so it doesn't cooperate with high intensity. Pooh!)

Sue: Wow! A second house! I met so many people in Gulf Shores last year who have a second house down there! And I also saw a TON of empty beach houses, so I was guessing that lots of people might HAVE a second house, but they aren't using them much. Maybe your DH is hoping to retire soon???

Pam: Do you ever foresee yourself getting back to Gulf Shores for another visit? I was quite charmed last year by the friendliness and hospitality of the locals! We made friends very easily last year and have kept in touch. However, my DH is ready to try Florida the following winter. We will see...

Tomorrow I plan to do Leslie Sansone's Muscle Mile. But I am NEEDING something long term that excites me and challenges me without hurting my foot! I did so well with Leslie Sansone's 30 Day Walk Challenge. But I'm now bored with that since finishing it.

I will come up with another routine soon. It just needs to be REALLY soon! LOL

Pam, I hate cold too. Glad your outside work is aboiut done!

We are getting ready to go south, but only for a week. DH wants to look for a second house down there, but I don't see the point. He is always working, and we even have trouble using up our time share weeks!

Susy--Did you get back in the exercise groove today? I really miss it when I don't exercise.

After my very productive day yesterday, I was really tired today. Not nearly as much energy as yesterday!

Have a great day everyone! --Sue

Hello Everyone,

SUSY, I am so totally envious of you for spending the winter in Gulf Shores. I have not traveled much in my life, but I have been to Gulf Shores twice, and I love it there. What a wonderful place to be during the winter months! I can understand your mixed emotions about leaving Kansas City though since your family is there. Don't you wish you could take them all with you!

I've never tried ginger tea or hardly any kind of tea. I only have one more weekend at the race track, and other than that I won't be outside during the winter months other than jumping out of my truck and running into the gyms where I work and the stores where I shop. I am NOT into winter at all. That is why I am so envious of your winter in Gulf Shores.

Oh yeah, Monday is a GREAT time to get back into your exercise routine.

Eek! I've been MIA over on this thread!

I've enjoyed reading each of your posts since the last one I wrote!

One quick reference to your post, Pam: I've heard that ginger tea will warm a person up on the inside. I can't vouch for it myself. But I think that it increases one's blood circulation. I've heard that it can make you sweat! I personally love the taste of ginger!

Well, my news is that we are only here in Kansas City for another three and half weeks before we take off for Gulf Shores, AL for the winter. I'm both looking forward to it (warmer weather and seeing the friends we made last winter) and dreading leaving here (leaving my family and friends).

Anyway, my OTHER news is that I seem to have fallen off my exercise streak for almost a whole week... I keep telling myself that I'm getting back started "tomorrow." And that's what I'm telling myself right now: Tomorrow is Monday; a great time to start back up!

Night!

emoticon SUE! You really DID have a productive day. All I have accomplished is I taught two afternoon classes at the YMCA. When I got home, I jumped online and I have been here since. I have to get busy in a few minutes and also head out to the grocery store, but only to pick up a few things. I don't do BIG grocery shopping like I did when we all ate all of our meals here. Those were the days when I used to cook a lot. Those days are no more.

Last night it was FREEZING at the race track after the sun went down. My hands were like icicles. When I got home, I put on tons of clothing and went to bed under tons of blankets. I was chilled through and through. They were over at the race track again today at 9:30 AM, but I had already given notice that I could NOT work on Sundays because I teach classes. NO ONE wants to sub on Sunday, PLUS, I did NOT want to go back over there and FREEZE again. However, the races today were mostly taking place during the day time when it would be sunny. We have one more race next Saturday night, and I am taking my portable heater to avoid another night of FREEZING.

Have a GREAT WEEK, ALL!

Made good use of the extra hour! Went to early breakfast! Came home and did yard work (raking, mowing, and bush trimming. Showered and went to see new dance studio. (We are opening a second location.) Came home and did some baking and cooking. Started packing for vacation. Very productive day! emoticon

Our backyard has a lot of woods which back up to even more woods, and I love it when the deer wander up to our yard. I think they are beautiful. I guess they have been in those woods a long time, and they do not seem afraid when they see us looking at them. This is a big deer hunting area, but NOT in the woods around my house, so I hope these deer continue to stay in THESE woods where they will be safe from hunters.

Have a GREAT WEEKEND, ALL!

We have lots of deer. I'm sure they have been here longer than the houses. There are woods all around all the houses, and we back up to a wooded state park. I have to be sure I have a good hold on their leashes when I take the dogs out. Quite often there are several deer in the yard when I open the door. They usually just stand there and look at me and don't even run!

YIKES! SUE, that was a pretty 'close encounter' with the snake! We live in the country, and when we first moved here, we saw a snake every now and then, and lots of frogs. However, we've been here 21 years, and I haven't seen a snake in a long time, and thank goodness, there aren't that many frogs here either. Lots more houses on the street than were here when we first moved. Our lot was mostly woods when it was selected, and we moved in on THEIR territory. We still see deer, raccoons, squirrels, possums, and I once saw a fox. I'll take any of those any day over a FROG!

Have a GREAT DAY, ALL!

Yea, it's usually sometime in November before our leaves really turn. Since we had the early frost, I just thought they might be pretty. Probably in the mountain part of the state, they are already turned.

I heard on the news tonight that this was the earliest we have had a frost since 1997. We didn't move here until 2004. I thought this was really early for us to get a frost.

I don't like snakes at all either. We had one in the house once, but not here. Here we are surrounded by woods, and have a lot of English ivy. A few years ago, I was walking on a stone path in the yard and a really large snake crossed right in front of me. It had a triangle head. I looked it up and found out it was timber rattle snake and that they like English ivy. Needless to say, we got rid of the English ivy even though it was really pretty.

Enjoy the nice weather while we can. It's supposed to be back in the 70's here all week.

SUE, you were so nice to save the moth from your cat... emoticon and SUSY, a snake in the house would freak me out, too. However, the 'frog thing' is different. I don't like spiders, snakes, wasps, or bees, or anything like that, but the 'frog thing' is much more than an "I Don't Like." It is an HORRIFIC, EXTREME, FEAR and then some! We've had a lizard in the house a couple of times, and my son had two turtles which after the newness wore off, they were MY turtles. Not a problem for me, but FROGS!!!!!! are something totally different. That is the one thing that I HATE about warm weather.

SUE, your tour sounds very nice. I am glad that you enjoyed it. Around here, the leaves haven't turned pretty yet. They will do that soon though, and the sight is awesome.

Have a GREAT DAY, ALL!

It was a beautiful day here today. I had purchased a trolley tour that I thought would be nice to take today. Here in Richmond, there is a famous cemetery/park along the James River. Everyone says it is very interesting and beautiful. So we took the tour today. I thought the leaves would be pretty, but most of them haven't turned yet.

The tour was definitely worthwhile. This cemetery is second in the nation for number of visitors (Arlington is first). Since Richmond was the capital of the confederacy there are a lot of confederate generals, a couple of US presidents and of course Jeff Davis, president of the confederacy.

In our life we have toured two cemeteries: this one and the one at West Point. (The West Point one was part of a parent weekend tour). Anyway, I think between the two, we have visited the graves of most of the civil war generals for both the north and the south.

Sue, I don't like winter cold either! I hate being cold, feeling cold--I like warmth! Now that we are retired and have the option of going south for the winter, I'm much happier! (Minus missing our family and friends back home.)

Pam, I don't mean to laugh about your phobia... but it did strike me as humorous. (Even though I truly respect that you are terrified of frogs!) I don't have any stories about frogs, but I have a story about a 4ft long black snake.

We lived on a dead-end next to a wooded area, and my sister was up from Texas visiting me. She had her baby with her (my niece was maybe 8 months old and asleep on my bed in the next room). We were in the living room talking and my front door was open. (I lived in a split level house; when you came in the front door, you had to go up the stairs to get to the living room.) We could hear my boys and my husband outside and they were talking about a snake. A bit of time goes by, and the next thing I know, I see a black snake slither around the stairs and come toward us. I scream and jump up on the back of the sofa, as high as I can get. My sister immediately runs TOWARD the snake to get to her baby in the bedroom. However, the snake hears our screaming and immediately turns tail to go back down the stairs. My husband opens the screen door to see why we're screaming and the snake gets caught behind the front door and the wall. When DH goes to move the door, the snake speeds past him and back out into the front yard... to his freedom, I suppose.

Anyway, that's my nature-inside-my-house story! LOL

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Pam, your frog story is very funny. I have been bringing my plants in for years. I am very good about spraying them before I bring them in. Also, I keep them all in a patio room. The door to the main part of the house is closed most of the time unless we are out there.

My strangest plant stow away occurred a number of years ago when I brought the plants into all parts of the house. One day I saw our cat sitting and really starring at a plant. I walked over to see what had his interest. It was a beautiful moth that had just come out of its cocoon. It was too cold to put the moth outside. So I put him in the patio room (not the one here. We lived somewhere else then.) Not sure how long he lived, but at least I saved him from our cat.

Hello Everyone,

Things have settled down somewhat. My son finally got his car towed to the repair shop,
but they were closed when it was delivered there. That was on Thursday night. He works from 6:45 AM until about 2:30 PM as a school teacher. Normally, he coaches football practice for another 2 or 3 hours after school. Tonight they had a game so he was planning to get to the shop between school letting out and the game. I hope he made it so that they can start working on it (if they even work on Saturday). He has a rental car through Monday, but he may have to keep it longer if his car isn't fixed by then. I hope he has the money to get the repairs done and for the rental car. He is not too good about having emergency money stocked up, and believe me, he often has emergencies.

Sue, regarding bringing all of your plants inside. I have a funny story about that. My sister and I are both TERRIFIED emoticon of frogs. I mean we are beyond TERRFIED, I think, No I KNOW that I would have a heart attack if one got near me. It is a phobia that I've had as long as I can remember (which I am sure that I got from her because she is several years older than me). Anyway, last winter they brought in their potted plants when it was beginning to get cold. They had one sitting on the breakfast room table. One day, she and a friend was sitting at the table, and they heard a "RIBBET, RIBBET" coming from the plant. A FROG emoticon hopped out right on the table in front of them. Talk about screaming and freaking out, she did BOTH. Fortunately, her husband was there, and he took the frog outside, along with the rest of the plants.

The moral of this story is, WATCH OUT and BEWARE, because there may be FROGS bedded down in the dirt around your plants. THAT is the main reason that I do not have potted plants. It is too risky that there may be FROGS in them who will hop out once they are brought inside. Not the end of the world, of course, unless you have an extreme phobia of FROGS. emoticon

Hello all!

Glad I got my plants in. It's supposed to freeze tonight. I am not a winter person! I don't like cold. I would never get rid of them. They're like part of the family!

I didn't get on Spark until late last night (tonight too). Last night it seemed to keep crashing. I even tried two different computers too. So I definitely think it was Spark. Every time I tried to type an entry, it would crash and I'd lose it. So I just gave up!

Doing better tonight, but I'm tired and not going to finish my spark session tonight either!

Have a great weekend all!

Hi Carol!
Hi Sue!
Hi Pam!
Hi any lurkers out there reading this post! LOL

Carol, my daughter-in-law is a 1st grade teacher. She loves it when there are school holidays too! I imagine it is really taxing to always need to be attuned to EVERYTHING going on around you.

Sue, maybe there's some young teenager or college age person that would love to earn some money by helping to move your plants for you! I don't see how you can get rid of any of them once you said that you've had some of them for the past 30+ years!

Pam... yikes! I know that I can internally 'kick and scream' when my little balanced world gets out of whack. So please know that we understand that you need to just share sometimes. For some reason, telling someone seems to reduce the pressure somewhat. And hearing that others care what you're going through can make you feel better in the midst of stress. {{{Hugs}}}

Regarding the new START page: I LOVE IT!
I was already going to the old Start page every morning in order to fill in my water, veggies, exercise minutes and spin the wheel. But for comparison sakes, the old Start page is like black and white; the new Start page is like technivision color! (At least to me, it is!)

I especially like reviewing my goals (Segment 2) and then pressing the button to get 5 Spark Points for it! I didn't like sitting there for over a minute to watch the slide show (even if they were my personal goals!), so it made me pare down and really, really get succinct with what I want to accomplish! And now I am reminded of it daily so I can ask myself if I'm staying on track to attain those goals!

Okay, here's a "Did you know?" for you:
I was just on the Amazon web site and saw that NOW you have to order a minimum of $35 to get free shipping! (It was $25.)

Hello Everyone,
Thank you all for reading my post and not taking it as whining. This week has not been any better, but I am sort of getting adjusted to the "WHAT NOW" lifestyle. I am not going into any details, just more of the same 'out of the ordinary' drama. Anyway, this too shall pass, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and nothing is the end of the world. There, I feel better. emoticon

How does everyone like the new START page. I am still trying to get the hang of it, but it seems like it is OK. Cool here, but not yet cold. It was sunny today, but we had clouds for the past few days.

I hope all of your are doing OK. Take care, and keep in touch.

Pam, I didn't take it as whining! It sounded like a week that would get to anyone!

It's supposed to get cold here at the end of this week. I have a lot of large house plants that I put outside in the summer and have to bring in before the first frost. That was the project for today. My husband helped a lot! He always does!

I have moved these plants all over with us. Some of them are about as old as our youngest son who is 38. So you can imagine how big and heavy they are. They are all in now. No causalities either human or plants. The patio room looks a lot smaller, and husband said he thinks I should hire someone to move them next year. They are too big and we are getting too old to do it ourselves! emoticon

So sorry to read about your hectic week! I hope this week goes much more smoothly:)

Oh, Pam! We all need to "let it all out" sometimes!

I know that I live a much more "secure" life than some people... and then there are those that live a MUCH more secure life than me!!!

My heart goes out to you on any type of vehicle problems. I rely on my DH, so if I didn't have him, I'd pretty much be exactly where you are.

My love to you...

No check in or chatting here in a long time. I am just dropping by to say "HI" and I hope everyone is doing well.

This was hectic week for me. In addition to my usual hectic schedule, on Tuesday, my youngest son had a flat tire on the way to work with NO SPARE. Of course, I'd reminded him probably close to 1,000 times that he MUST have a spare tire. Anyway, he called me around 6:15 AM wanting to know what to do. I said, "GET A SPARE TIRE!" Well, then we got it all figured out, he had to have his car towed to a tire shop which of course was not open at that time of day, get someone to pick him up at the tire shop and take him to work, and then get a ride back to the tire shop that afternoon. He had to buy a new tire, but he STILL HAS NO SPARE TIRE!!!!! His birthday is in November, and I am going to get him one. (It figures)

On that same day, my truck (a dinosaur) started making a banging and clanging sound when it was started, and a roaring sound when I put my foot on the gas pedal. I drove it all day like that because I had too much work to do to get it into the repair shop. I drove it again like that on Wednesday for the same reason. Although I am a faithful substitute for other instructors, and although I rarely miss a class or need a sub...when I do need one, I can never get one. That is mainly because they are all teaching their own classes.

Finally on Thursday, I could take it to a repair shop which is located right next door to the gym when I teach on Thursday mornings. (Tuesday and Thursdays are my light days). I got a ride from that gym to the next gym for my next class, and she picked me up to return me to the repair shop. Thank goodness it only cost me just a few days pay to get it repaired.

On Friday, three of my six cats were scheduled at the vet for their yearly checkups. I got home from work just 30 minutes before their appointment, but I did get them all there by that time where we waited for two hours due to an emergency. That took care of the rest of the week's pay for me. Then I noticed on the way home from the vet that the oil gage on my truck was showing LOW. I knew it had a leak, but only a slight one, but with an hour trip to work and an hour trip back from work today, I didn't want to take a chance on anything happening today due to the oil gage showing LOW. So thirty minutes before that same repair shop closed yesterday, I was back over there for them to check the oil in the truck. Fortunately, they took me in, and changed the oil, so it was back showing normal again after that.

Today, I got a call from the race track that today's races were canceled due to weather and rescheduled for tomorrow. I teach two classes on Sunday, so I tried to find someone to sub for me, but I had no luck, (NO ONE wants to teach on Sunday, but ME). so I will miss working at the race track this weekend. I am sorry about that since that is the only place that I work where I am actually there for a number of hours. I make more money there just on Saturday than I make in an entire month teaching 3x's a week at one of the gyms. (I've been there 21 years with only ONE raise, and I still make less there than I do at any of the other gyms which isn't very much either).

I love teaching fitness classes (I have been teaching for 40 years), and I know that I have played a part in helping so many people improve their lives, by being healthier and happier, BUT in my 'neck of the woods' fitness instructors certainly do not get paid much. Those who work on commission and who have a large following of course get paid more (as long as they have that large following) than the ones who work at gyms. I do most of my classes at gyms or community centers. I do a couple of commission classes but I do not have a large following because I teach at so many gyms (where the fee for classes is included in with their gym membership).

What to do? Same thing that I have been doing since I started teaching fitness classes ten years ago as a way of supporting myself...HAVE FAITH and PRAY A LOT! It has worked so far, and I have FAITH that it will continue to work!

I just hope that next week is a little less hectic, and I hope YOUR week is GREAT!

Starting to feel like fall... cooler morning weather, earlier sunsets, football games, feeling like cooking chili!

Congratulations, Carol. Sounds like you are loving your new job. I taught fitness at a Y for about 8 years where we used to live.
