This is wonderful, Rita. How is the decluttering coming along? We did some major decluttering and downsizing when we moved from our old house to our current one three years ago. We were moving between states, and our new house was less than half the square footage of our old one. So we had charity trucks backing into our driveway at least once a week, taking our entire dining room set, a sofa, desk, baby crib, office filing cabinets, chairs, stools, and just loads more. Then there were tons of trips to Goodwill with my car completely loaded up...trunk, backseat, etc filled to bursting. I went from a kitchen with around 20 cabinets fully packed down to a smaller kitchen with just four cabinets. Naturally just about everything had to go. There were also about 8 trips to the dump and recycling center with other items that weren't good enough to donate to charity. I admit that I looked around each day as I was loading my car up with items and I thought, "What if I need these things?? What if I get rid of them and find out that we actually need them after all!" But in the end, I have to say that once we got down to our new home and started putting things away.....we were so happy that we hadn't brought everything. In fact, we still downsized even more once we got here, and I go through all of our closets every few months to look for items that I can donate and get rid of. If we haven't used it in a year, it's gone.

It's a lot of work to clear things out and decide what stays and what goes....and there's always that sentimental pull that makes me want to keep things that I shouldn't, but there's such a sense of peace knowing that everything in the house has a place and a purpose. :)

Happy sorting and organizing! :)

My DH and I are going through our home and cleaning out any "stuff" that we don't need/use/want and giving it to charity.

I am increasing my exercise by riding my bike to work and trying to take in classes at the Y.

We are working on a more complete budget and asking ourselves if we really need whatever we are buying.

Still having trouble with emotional eating! My exercise is great, doing lots of biking (3 hrs yesterday) walking, swimming, wii fit plus etc. If only I could get my emtional eating in line! It the nighttime I have to work on. I think I will have to go back to a very strict plan of eating to stop the out of control business at night!
Anyone have any other ideas?

Ok, I admit that I am hard headed. Finally realized that the weight isn't going to fall off by itself. I have been on vacation this let everything go back to the old way of life - not eating right, no exercise except walking around the amusement park. Feeling like all is lost. Starting today I am going back to what has helped - eating right, walking everyday basically making time for myself.

I am still struggling with night time eating emotionally which is stopping my weight loss. I need to get a check on that and get more exercise in! My 35 min walk to and from work is not enough!

I'm resetting my goals, slowly, but surely. I made some good choices yesterday for exercise and am getting ready to go for an early morning walk with my sis in law who lives a block away. I am going to plan my eating before it happens today.

The last child left this AM with her husband and daughter. I am going to set some new goals and get a realistic plan. I still have 30-40 pounds to lose, so I need a plan!!

I have been eating emotionally for the past few weeks, not gaining, but not losing weight either. My son got married last weekend and we've had lots of company. It's been a great time, but I need to get control back in eating. Yesterday was pretty good until I had dessert with the family last night. (It will be good to have all of the desserts gone soon!!) I need to track my food 100% and say no to dessert!

I was the last to post. Since then a job has fallen into my lap and I just completed my first week. I LOVE the job and the hours are better than my last position, plus I still see my last client for exercise. It's better than I could have even imagined! I'm praising God and HIS provision for me, his child!

What am I going to do about it? I just learned that the man I care for will be put in an assisted living facility July 20th eliminating my job!

Even though I'm busy getting ready for #1 son's wedding, I'm going to have to go find a job! I don't want tooooooooooo!

MY "lightbulb moment" was realizing that paying a traffic ticket late tripled the fine. So I'm going through my bills and at least paying them down to reduce the amount of late fees, etc. Cutting spending and using the savings to pay down my credit card comes next.

Saturday was an interesting day. I worked hard on going through stuff that has been in storage and organizing it. I got in over my head and had to walk away from it before I was done. Our spare bedroom is a mess right now. My husband is ever patient even though he loves order and tidiness! Tomorrow I will finish this particular project and either move on with more or get other work done. Gotta work it every day but Sunday! Am I the only one who has a challenge of having too much stuff and consequently a disorganized house where I can't find what I need?

I, too have spent much time in the "rut" phase and now by God's grace, I have had success and know i"m heading in the right direction. If you're having trouble with motivation do what SP teaches, little steps in the right direction. They DO add up to great change over time. I have had some trouble this week with going through boxes that have "stuff" in them. Yesterday I had a great plan, (so I thought) and then I got a call asking if I was coming to a lunch meeting I had committed to, but had forgotten. I dropped everything and went. When I finally returned home I had lost momentum, but forced myself to go through some things anyway. I am disappointed I didn't get great things accomplished, but at least I made a small dent in my stored clutter.

The financial leg of my plan is more difficult as we have some large one time a year bills coming up and I need to be squeezing out money to pay those bills instead of saving or working on paying extra on the mortgage. To make matters worse the man that I care for will need to go to an assisted living facility soon leaving me without a job. I assured his daughter I will stay until he is settled in. He's on a waiting list right now. He could die (couldn't we all?) any day leaving me jobless. I am trying to figure out a new job when the day comes when I am unemployed. Also trying to figure out whether I can work full time and in what venue. Spark people has helped me in so many areas. I view myself as a CAN DO person more than ever before! This is a can do team! Think how you can make a difference in your plan this week! emoticon

ritarose, were we separated at birth? LOL. u r thinking exactly as i am. i want to be debt free and lose weight for health. i really should throw my scale out the window and not have one in the house, but that is a frightening thing. i typically only weigh myself once a month because i don't like the # on the scale. but i figure if i can get my spending under control, then the weight will probably start coming off easier since my debt is mostly due to food that i don't need. LMAO

My ephiphany is that being overweight, spending too much money and having too much stuff are all related in my life. I am working on all 3 things to get my life into balance. The weight loss thus far has made me feel tremendous and look so much better! If (or shall I say when) I get the other two goals working I will feel a great deal of satisfaction! Looking forward to gleaning great things from this team!

Awesome! The epiphany for me is 1rst of all-clutter.I
recently decided that I will get rid of at least a bag
of stuff each week-most of it goes to thrift stores-the
rest is trash. It gives me a great sense of control &
peace.-Linda

You are off and running. Congrats! I decided I wanted to be debt free. I don't like answering to anyone and debt means I answer to someone so it's out!

It's not about getting what you want, it's about wanting what you got.

Well, it only took me 45 years! I recently had an epiphany. I realized I was the only one who could make my life a happy one and set out on a journey to prove it right!!

I decided I was tired of being sick all the time so I became a vegan (or am in the process of becoming one).

I am tired of looking like a flattened tire so I renewed my commitment to exercise EVERY day.

I actually like getting compliments so I started dressing better, doing my makeup, nails, pedi, and hair every day.

I love to travel so I'm planning 3 trips this summer. Two road trips and a cruise in early January, 2011.

I really do want my PhD so I'm going to dig in and stop complaining and write the dang dissertation until the Dragon Lady approves it (more later).

I am tired of scrimping and barely making it to payday so I created and will live by a monthly budget (and it looks like I really do make enough money to pay bills AND have some fun).

I think I just realized that life is too short (there have been a couple of deaths in my family over the last few months). I can't afford to sit around waiting for things to get better. I've got to make things better and have a great time while I'm doing it.

What's your most recent epiphany? How are you changing your life to address it?

Don't change our worries to your body. The burden soon becomes heavy and your health will give too much of itself to pick up the extra load. (Astrid Alauda)
