Plateaus

I keep going in circles.... I hit a plateau... then get frustrated... then tend to put on some weight... then I loose it again... then the cycle begins again....

I am confident... things will be better this year now that I am aware of what is happening

two things - snacking on left overs (I try to put things straight into the fridge to avoid cutting off just a tiny second bit of that quiche/spoon of that stew etc and another and another etc), and working time in for exercise around mine and my daughter's schedule (lifting etc)

Hi there!
I have recently recommitted to following a healthy lifestyle, and I am working hard to get at my goal. I joined Spark Coach about 2 weeks ago, and it is really helping.

My biggest obstacle is at work, and in my car. I work 3rd shift, and my co-workers are always bringing in high calorie snacks. The doc we work with loves ice cream, and treats us often, I try to bring healthy snacks, but all too often, I give into what looks so good. I will continue to take good and healthy snacks to work, and I am really trying to resist the temptations of the food they bring.

In my car, I tend to like to get a fast food breakfast. I know this is not good. I need to have a good breakfast with me, so I'm not feeling hungry.

I am serious about my goals, and I am working hard to get there. This looks like a good team for me, and I'm glad I joined!

Thanks, Spark People for all your wonderful resources!
Linda

Working the program because the program works.

I have two major hurdles: time management, and bad knees. Both interfere with my life in insidious ways, generally right when I don't want them to. But I'm still making progress, if slowly!

I have enablers in my home but the worse of it all is that I have lost my appetite and have been having trouble eating. Last night we went to a restaurant and all I ordered was a salad and only ate 1/4 of it. This is the 5th day in a row that I have been like this. I think that it is stress but I know it isn't healthy...

My biggest obstacle right now is motivation. I am definitely motivated to get healthier, but the motivation to exercise is the hardest thing.

As of today I am bribing myself by allowing myself to watch a movie or dvd AFTER or DURING exercise. Hopefully that will get me off my backsideemoticon

Emotional eating is my biggest battle! Even though I've been doing this for a year and a half, I struggle with it from time to time. My jobs get sooo stressful, and I have to look for other ways to handle that other than eating! It's a tough one! One day I will fully overcome it! :)

I am a big snacker, mostly after 6pm. I crave sweets, crunchy foods. I have been better, I dont ring the food I like to snack on in the house. But my husband does and I try to avoid it. But sometimes I just have to have chocolate or ice cream. It's like I cant stop myself.

I read everyone's on this whole page and I have to agree with so many of you...
Mine is I'm home alone in this new town... my husband is out of town alot with his job.. I HATE winter and love to walk...worry about money even when I don't have to... didn't get our house we tried to buy... and I have Vertigo which is HE** ... so I have gained 3 pounds back...if I get up to do anything, I get dizzy and have to lay down, which has made my eating habits horible... sorry for all this but there is more than one and I'm feeling it.. maybe if spring sprung.. it would change my blues to happier thoughts and ambitions!!!..

Try adding a slice of cucumber to your water. You will be surprised by the taste, I start craving it that way and more often than not will end up drinking 12 glasses of water. I also add lemon on occasion. Another thing I did was I got a 32oz. water bottle and tell myself I can drink two of these. I hope this helps emoticon.

try to cut back on things that are not supposed to be in your diet . if you want something then by all means have a small serving of that "thing "rather then eating everything else and then eating the whole pie .

My biggest obstacle is my delightfully comfortable loveseat. I love to exercise, and I love the way I feel when I do, but I also love to sit in this chair, especially if I have a pet sitting next to me who is also relaxed. For me, it's not a matter of finishing what I start, it's a matter of starting!

Right now my 2 biggest obstacles are an injury and a heavy work load - but my injury will heal and my project and hopefully the heavy work load will change in the near future too. At the moment I just need to be creative with the types of exercise I can do and be mindful that I tend to eat when stressed and not exercising... I'm thinking of trying daily meditation re stress and over eating.

When it's cold out, and it is....I don't want to do much as the cold seems to fire up every old muscle I have. And on top of forcing myself to exercise, the cold weather changes my taste, and I want to eat something warm and gooey instead of a salad. It's a daily struggle for me during the winter.

My biggest obstacle with be for some time to come. I LOVE working out at home year round and due to a joint condition/disease, I need to workout at the gym now. I need the water/pool classes and therapies that are offered there along with specific trainers that hold both Phys Therapy and Pers Training Degrees. I will also need to use certain cardio machines to build up the lower body.

Even when I lived 5 minutes from te Gym, it was still a pain in the butt. but now I'm 25 minutes away, living in very-small-town USA. I know I need to do it, my body's health and long term mobility depends on it. However, it doesn't make it any easier.

I have 2 difficult obstacles:

1. Finishing what I start. Staying motivated in spite of minor setbacks.

my biggest obstacle is me. I eat well all day and then blow it at night, every night. Before I go to bed I am determined to get up and exercise and eat right and have all the movtivation and can do attitude and "tomorrow is the start, this time I can do it, etc.... Somehow I lose all that by the next morning and don't have to get up and go and before I know it it is night time again and I just ate another cookie and I'm planning to start again tomorrow. WHY????

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted here on the team. My biggest challenge is putting myself and my health first. I have been starting up a ceramic business that is suppose to be me and my sister and a flea market booth also. Between pouring molds, cleaning and firing the greenware I have just stopped taking care of myself. I haven't even been logging on here like I had been. So I am turning over a new leaf (or a really old one) and starting tomorrow am going to get back on track. I am going set aside time for me!

My biggest challenge is being consistent (aka laziness). I do great for a couple of days and then slack off until I get mad enough at myself to start over again. I need to do a little everyday instead of a lot every now and again to make up for the times when I don't exercise/eat right.

My obstacle is laziness! I would rather not prepare food, I would rather not exercise, I would rather not clean, I would rather sit on the couch and watch a movie or play on the computer or something! However I know I need to lose weight and sitting around doing nothing isn't going to help. I feel GREAT after I work out and prepare food and stay in my calorie range, but I don't do it as often as I should!

Like Krystald76, my obstacle is depression. It's not so much sadness as a lack of energy and an overwhelming sense of "what's the point?" which makes getting out of the house and/or moving difficult. Also, I find I want to eat sweets in order to get more energy...it's a viscious cycle, because that makes me more depressed. I love the idea about putting a sign up that says, "I'm not depressed, I'm mad!"

will write about two obstacles:
First is doing cardio. Because of working hours etc safer and easier to go to the gym. Love yoga, pilates, callanetics etc classes but get so bored with treadmills, ellipticals, etc so have to force myself to do cardio and often skip out on this.

Second obstacles is making sure get all nutrients in. I am vegetarian and get bored with eating beans etc so sometimes find it hard to get in enough protein. Also find it hard to measure magnesium and potassium as very few products list these. I have though become more conscious of what am missing out on through tracking my food and therefore try to make up for it (but don't always succeed as easier just to make a quick omelette sometimes than balance the meal)

I have to fully admit in order to change. My obstacle is run by depression...I beat myself down, get lazy, lose desire and motivation. Hoping starting Insanity will break me of that as it will kick my tail in my living room. Does not require the energy to get out of the house and see people. Once I'm healthier, depression will begin to lift.

Time...when I hired a personal trainer, I spent 10 months, 4/5 days a week in the gym. Economics played the part in letting her go, so now I'm filling my life w/things I let go during the 10 months. By 7/8 in the evening, I'm not willing to drive out to the gym as bedtime is 9:30. So, inspite of rainy weather, today I will go out for a long walk w/Lucky. Maybe we could dodge the raindrops... :)

Last night I prepared a huge heart healthy salad full of a variety of veggies and greens, with a little meat, and a few slivered almonds. We ate our fill and had a few crackers with it. Trouble is I'm never satisfied with a salad. Always want something more and I get upset with myself because of it, but have to figure out another way to eat low carb, low cal, low fat and still not want to eat a ton of stuff before bed.
