It is sad people have to be so careless and start fires. I agree, the summer is hot and dry. In So. Calif. anyway. DH and I would love to move to Montana some day. My Hubby bought me this rose bush today. Beautiful color, and so fragrant. The flowers open up a dark pink, then turn purple.

Sometimes I wish I was back in California, but mostly I am happy with being here. I am still fasting three days a week but not losing weight the way I would like too. I need to stop getting sweets and chips for myself. Good luck with your weather as I remember summers with no rain and lots of fires.

I live 1 1/2 hrs. north of Los Angeles. It's rare for us to get smog. I do see it at times hanging over the San Bernardino Mountains. The smog blows over there from L. A. poor people. This year our winter was unusually warm. We're always warmer then where you live, but here in the high desert we often get days that are below 32. I think this winter was odd for a lot of people. I have heard twice that El Nino might be coming back this year. if that happens then next winter shouldn't be as bad for you, and hopefully we will get caught up on rain!

We still have snow here in Mankato MN. I know your weather is much warmer there in California but we have less air pollution here so it balances out.

DH didn't want to fill the pool this year due to the expense keeping it up. Now that he has a job, next year we will be swimming. emoticon

My Aunt and Uncle had a pool when I was a kid; that was new so we just loved to swim there. My Aunt is still living in the same house so the pool is still there, just not as used as in the past.

Sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner. The fruit is a bit like a tangerine but bigger and sometimes sweeter. They grow a lot of them in the New Orleans area, I have never seem them anywhere else. It is odd to think that I was in Metairie LA last year. It is more useful to have a community pool here in Minnesota, like the one at the YMCA that my nieces here in Mankato all learned to swim in.

What does the fruit taste like? DH didn't fill our pool this year, so I am going to ask our neighbor if I can borrow his.

This summer I am in Metaire LA and we have a satsuma tree with many green fruits on it. I am looking forward to fruit fresh off the tree. Mort of the yard here is devoted to the pool; I will have to get a suit before I can use the pool. Good exercise in a pool or so I have been told.

Our first frost has come already. I still have some tomatoes that are not ripe yet from my sisters potted tomato plant. I hope you had/have good crops from your pots.

We harvested our one ripe tomato last FRIDAY. It was very nice! The variety was "Solar flare" or something like that.... a hot weather drought tolerable variety.

Santosh and I split our ONE blueberry. LOL!!

New shoots/leaves are forming. Curious to see if there will be any more fruit.

Yeah, the weird late frosts here have really screwed up the vineyards/grapes. Not sure if I'll be able to get a hold of a good batch of grapes this fall for crush/winemaking.

Beer works for slugs I know but I never heard of using it for snails. Salt will kill snails I do know. Good luck with your gardens, just think what the farmers are going through with the weather so bad all over the country.

I does seem like last year this time, I was already getting tomatoes delivered in my weekly share from our little CSA farm here in town. This is the first time I've attempted a container garden on my own, and right now, it's so sad it's funny: I have ONE tomato, ONE mini bell pepper, and ONE BLUEBERRY!! lol!!!!

Snail advice, anyone? I've tried beer: they just drink it, and move on to the leaves of my bell pepper plant. I've heard putting cayenne pepper on the leaves wards off critters.... any merit to this?

Very frustrated right now. Last year I was already picking and eating fruit and vegetables. I'll be lucky if I get tomatoes by the end of July. Don't know about the rest because my seeds are just popping through the dirt. To much cold weather!!!! emoticon
