Thanks Jan. I know you'll make it! Let us know if the scale is nice to you. We want to celebrate with you!
Today was not quite as perfect in choices. But I still did better than I would have even two weeks ago. So I'm OK with it. Its always harder when DH is home. And he's home getting the new heat pump installed so I'm not complaining one bit.
You go girl. I have a couple more days to make it a week for me.......you give me hope!!! Jan

Hey y'all. I'm so thrilled. I have had one full week back with my complete dedication of posting my food to SparkPleople and I got on the scale this morning. I lost 4 of the 13 lbs I gained in the last quarter, so I'm thrilled!!!

You are so right, Cheryl. My mom had breast cancer when she was about 48...she lived to be 82, so they caught it quickly and she never had a recurrence. I am lucky too, as no one else on either side of my family has had it, but I do get them regularly. My DH was diagnosed with prostate ca 3 years ago about Thanksgiving. He is fine and there was no spread, so some seeds and a year of feeling totally wiped out was a small price to pay considering the alternative, but those annual checkups are critical. (of course, he may feel the price was a little high, but realizes it could have been so much worse)
OK didn't mean to get into downer stuff here on Celebrations.. Maybe just celebrate the great advances in Medical science in the last 50 years........

Mammies aren't that bad if you consider the alternatives ladies. That's LOTS worse.
It's good to see you guys again too. I'll try to pop in more often. I have a plant for you all to identify anyway. I'll try and get it posted tomorrow.

I had my first mammy this spring..I started seeing a new dr and he asked if I'd ever had one..When I said no, he said he would schedule me, and said NO again..But a coward and stubborn, yes..He leaves the room after we're all done, and on my way out the nurse hands me my appt slip for the mammy..LOL He didnt preach or argue, but he ignored me..I liked that..

Cheryl and Jo, think we should celebrate having you two back......yeah, I've missed you. And I had my mammogram last week......all clear. They used a digital machine this time and it was a lot easier and quicker......liked that better, but not much. :-)

Thank you, Jan! I agree!
This being Breast Cancer Awareness month is a good time to remind all you ladies to make sure you get your "mammies" and take good care of "the girls!" I read an article about a group of ladies who schedule their mammograms on the same day, around the same time; and make a celebration out of it! They got their imaging center to let them have a "party room," and they watch chick flicks, eat snacks and bring presents for one another. Sounds like an imaginative way to make an, otherwise, unpleasant experience more palatable!

i've had a great week so far, didn't start out so pleasant but its getting ever so much better.
monday--weighed myself and i was back where i was a few weeks ago. the good thing was i went to a substitute teacher position interview and they said they would like to have me as one. i went home and got into my old clothes to wash my truck and got some heat exhaustion out of it (despite being in the shade--never woulda thunk it). but i got to spend the rest of the day working on a plan to try and help along my weight loss. Got a good night's sleep, too.
Today--i weighed myself this morning out of curiosity and i guess i lost 2.8 pounds! guess monday was just not the best day. had orientation today and learned a lot and asked a ton of questions. i'm keeping to my plan and drinking my water and dad came home with chips and donuts and pizza, and i haven't caved (i usually do in 15 minutes, its been over an hour, so i'm good!).
cross my fingers, i just pray the rest of the week goes well. i want to remember this one, and keep it in my mind when things get down. i'm on the way again, even with school starting up in a few weeks. i guess its knowing i'll be doing something most days and earning money again that's helping out.
all the best to everybody!

Donna, I didn't think you were heavy-handed at all! Your words were very kind and understanding. One of the best things about the friendships formed here is knowing that we're never alone in our stuggles to lose weight. I wanted to convey the same message to Jo concerning smoking. I know that soon we'll each have our "aha" moment and become ex smokers. Thank you Donna, you're a dear friend!

Janis, same for you... Please know that those who love you (me included) just have this deep longing for you to be free, especially those of us who have been down that road. Forgive me if I was too heavy-handed in trying to relate to you; I should know, from experience, that no one knows, any better than the one trying to give it up, how difficult it is.

Jo, we know how important it is to stop smoking and everyone here is speaking with kindness and concern. I just wanted you to know that you're not the only one battling that addiction. I'd love to be a non smoker. I'm just not tough enough to quit yet. I can't wait for the day when I'll be proud to say I'm a loser AND a quitter!

Jo, I think it's different for everyone on what turns the key on your decision to quit smoking. Mine was so weird--it was back in the early days of my marriage, and we were poor as church mice, living from paycheck to paycheck. Pete NEVER fussed about my smoking even though he's never smoked himself; and it must have been awful for him living with a smoker. Anyway, one day I ran out of cigarettes; and I was desperate, so I started searching through the house for change...I dug through drawers, even dived down between the couch cushions trying to come up with 35 cents (that's how much they cost back then...LOL). Anyway, I finally scraped up the necessary coins, jumped in the car and started down the road to a store. All of a sudden it was like a bolt of lightening from heaven! "How Stupid Can You Be," I thought as I reviewed my actions in my mind! It was like the light went on, I turned around, went home and probably only smoked two or three after that! To this day, there are times when I'd just like to feel one between my fingers--like with that cup of coffee after dinner. But I would never go back...
As I said, it's different for everyone. I have a brother dying of lung cancer. First he only had it in one lung, but he refused to give up the cigarettes. Now he has it in both... Obviously, it's too late for him; and he'll never have that moment of clarity.
I pray for you, my sweet friend, that you will have your moment soon. We love you and want you around for a long, long time; and so does someone else--that precious Mackenzie and her little brother or sister...

It took me the better part of 15 years to stop! I wasn't a heavy smoker but when I had my wine, had to have that cigerette too. I still get the urge every once in a while when I drink. Don't be afraid to fail. It's just like weight loss. You just get back up and go again. You'll quit when you are ready.

I know Cheryl, my daughter the nurse is always telling me stories of people in the nursing home she works at who have COPD and are suffering, and I would love to quit. It sounds silly but I'm afraid to try..maybe afraid to fail I dunno. I also am terrified of gaining the weight back that I've lost. I'll get there eventually. sigh

JO,
Anything that motivates you to quit smoking would be great! I wish my husband would quit. My old boss, Joe is dying of lung cancer. I quit smoking 7 years ago but since this has happened I have turned into the worst nag in the world about smoking. I know it doesn't help, been there, done that, but I don't want anyone I know or love to ever suffer from this awful killer again. Good luck, both to running and quitting!

Wow Donna, 41 years is awesome, congrats! Yeah, sex on an anniversary would be a good thing, but you guys obviously have something special regardless. Congrats on the running too, I decided I'm gonna try again next week (after dark hehe) but I'll wear a sports bra and go without the dog so I can see how far I can actually make it. I keep thinking if I could actually show some sign of being able to do it if it werent for smoking, maybe that would motivate me to finally STOP. I'm glad to see you back too, been thinking about you! Jo

It's funny you all should be discussing "running!" There's a spot, along my walking track in the pasture, where there are a lot of trees and bushes that hide me from view; and a couple of weeks ago, when I was doing my walking, I started, jogging (well, more like a lumbering trot), along those few yards. I was amazed that I could even do it! I'm sure the rabbits and the deer got a good chuckle, if they were watching.
A little belated celebration--DH and I just passed our 41st anniversary. Unfortunately, I was in SC and he was in Georgia, so there wasn't any real celebrating. When that happens, we always "plan" to make it up later; but it almost never happens.
My DS and DIL have the same anniversary, and my son was in China on the 9th; so DIL spent the day without hubby as well. We were chatting on the 'phone that day, and she remarked that they had had a semi-celebration before he left but they didn't "have any sex!" She said, "What kind of anniversary celebration is it if you don't have sex?" I roared! Guess she's right, though...

Don't give me too much credit Jo. I only a ran a few short spurts for a total of about 2 blocks! That's too funny about the bra!!! I was thinking that I REALLY need to invest in a sports bra before I try it again! I'm a lot like your dog... old and chubby with short legs! At least you tried it too, so congratulations are in order! Way to go!!!

Oh and it didnt help matters that I went out in a t shirt and no bra..

After a few weeks of slacking, I got back on track and I'm happy to report the scale FINALLY moved. That isn't the big news though. When I went for a walk this morning, I actually RAN a little!!! I can't remember the last time I ran. It might have been when I was 12!

And I bet you did great on camera, is there a link to the news station that aired it? Maybe theres still a video on there we could see..? Donna, 46lbs, Cheryls right, thats a HUGE accomplishment! I know how you feel too, seeing myself in pictures this summer hasnt been nearly as traumatic as seeing them the past couple years..Kinda nice to have the proof right in front of you isnt it?

I don't know anything to do about the droopy skin, but I'm actually thinking about having some plastic surgery done when I've reached my goal. So far, I don't have too much loose skin; I think that's one benefit to losing it so slowly. Also, I've started taking better care of my skin, especially on my face, using night cream and moisturizer.
My upper arms are what concern me. I've lost a lot of fat there, and I'm trying to target that area for my strength training to try to keep them from getting too terribly flabby.

Prima-Donna I think you are doing great. I've lost 36 lbs, and my old clothes still fit, even the jeans-236 to 200.75 lbs I don't think my clothes were that tight that they still fit now. I know some of my pants are elastic waist, but they still fit, and don't seem baggy. I know I have that wrinkly turkey neck now-ugly. Anyone know of an exercise to help that?? I won't go clothes shopping until all the clothes in my closet don't fit, and just hang.

Cheryl, I kind of know how you feel on a much smaller scale. The other day, DH took a picture of me, standing in the garden. It was the first full picture I've had taken since I lost the 46 lbs., and when I saw it, I was amazed. I actually looked pretty good! I told Pete, "My gosh, I look skinny!" I've gone from a size 26 to an 18-20. I never thought, years ago, that I'd be happy to be in a size 18, but it's an intermediate stop to size 12, which I would be thrilled with! I'm so proud of ALL of us! Everyone on this team is making tremendous progress.

I have something else to celebrate everyone. My Miniwalk this morning was a huge success! We raised $1000 to help the fight against breast cancer! It was an awesome time. WE had so much fun doing something good. News 19 even came out and OMG! I'm going to be on TV tonight. That guy stuck his mic in my face and I just froze! I DO NOT do TV well! LOL I bet I sat and just shook for 10-15 minutes afterwards. I had no clue they were coming. I'm glad I did it but I'm glad it's over!

Thanks girls. Donna, I never thought about it being a great birthday gift to myself, just another way to motivate me, thanks. I get a $10 poker chip when I loose weight…trust me it’s in the cup, lol.
Jo, thanks for the new shoes. I’ve already walked over 5000 steps today. Destiny and I walked downtown to the Ben Franklin’s. It’s going out of business and they are at 55% off now. I stocked up on a few sewing supplies and cards but they are really picked over already.
I’ve asked Greg to take Destiny, Holly (dog) and me for another walk tonight down by the river. We have this walking path down there and it’s so beautiful. Pray the weather stays nice until after dinner.
Off to drink some water and have an afternoon apple…thanks again girls…Veeko

Oh my gosh, Veeko! 4 lbs! That's an awesome birthday gift isn't it? I think you ought to give yourself a couple of extra poker chips for that, plus some extras for your birthday!
Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Veeko, Happy birthday to you....and mannnnnnny mooooore!

I’ve lost 4 lbs this week!!! I was so shocked I had to get off the scale, check it for accuracy and get back on. I know I’ve done more walking than normal this week, lots more and it sure has inspired me to do even more. It’s working!!! My legs are still a little sore from the walk we had the other night but I’ll walk it off.
I’m so happy this morning…Veeko

Cheryl on your daughter's graduation...it really is a milestone in her life. Congrats Jo on the new little one...I know you are jumping for joy. Yep there may be a mini van in your future. Donna's toyota sounds like a good idea. Ours is a Crysler (bought for the same reason) and it uses quite a bit of gas...and the price just seems to keep going up. Way to go SusieQ on your goal reached and on the walking...keep up the good work.

Donna, I will still take care of my flower bed, but I am doing a lot more exercise by walking now. I am down to 154 and my waist is down to the 32" that the YOAD book says is what our goal should be. I am doing better on my walking and am using my pedometer and I wear it all day so when I get it up to the 10,000 step goal that I have, I will post it in my other pedometer site. Oh man, Donna I know exactly what youre talking about..When Nikki was little I was working fulltime making a whopping $4.00 an hour! I'd feed her and the dog, first, then me if there was enough..What a struggle...But now..heh heh...As you said, most of my mad money goes on Mackenzie..She's just now starting to color with crayons, of course she wants to color on everything..Daddy keeps taking them away cause she colors on the couch..So I bought her little table and chairs set, so she can sit THERE and color in peace..LOL Yeh, he told me I spoil her..As you said "Well I never"...And YES Mackenzie already loves Walmart too! What a blast this is..

When we bought our first Toyota Sienna minivan, that was the reason why....safest minivan on the road and plenty of room for car seats! I keep 3 to 4 car seats and/or boosters in mine at ALL times! LOL! Don't you just love it? It's been the best time of my life. When my kids were little, we struggled just to feed, clothe and educate them; and there was never extra money for anything. Now we have a little "mad" money, and you know where most of that gets spent... I told you about my 7-year-old granddaughter entering the picture, in the contest at school, on "Your Favorite Place," and she did a picture of herself standing in front of Wal-Mart! Do you know her mother blames little ole me for that! Why, I never.... One of the first little gifts I gave her, right after she was born, was a little "Born To Shop" magnet.

Congrats CAERYL to you and your daughter! We teach our kids by example, and obviously you have some good things to teach her, you should both be proud! Thats great that shes going on to college too, my daughter did all 4 of her years at a community college, due to cost and me not being able to help alot, but the value of education is priceless no matter where its acheived, so a big to you and your family! Caeryl, we all join with you in your "sigh of relief!" I know the feeling of getting six of them to the high school graduation milestone, and it is definitely cause for celebration. I'm sure your good parenting had something to do with the fact that she's getting her life back together. Perhaps she'll meet some young men at college that will be a better influence on her. Congratulations to her and you as well!

I have lots of celebration going on in my house right now. On memorial day my oldest daughter turned 18...
what a huge milestone for her..
also, my daughter graduates from High school next week.
We were not so certain that the graduation was going to occur. HEr years in high school have been vvery very rough.. She hooked up with a no good boy.. and her choices were very poor. Now she seems to be getting her act together... and she is graduating... Halleluia...
My daughter said she is going to spend a year or two at community college and then transfer to a regular college in a year or two...

Jan congrats on your retirement! And a standing ovation, how awesome, I got goosebumps just reading about it! Now you can take the time to focus on yourself, your family, heck, anything you want! Good luck and have a blast on your upcoming trip, it sounds like a wonderful time! Jo
