Okay - There are 28 chapters in this book. (Bright Young Things by Anna Godberson) Let's plan on reading the prologue and the first couple chapters over the weekend. We'll follow last month's schedule of shooting to read a chapter a day. We will not discuss any chapter until that day of the month. For instance, questions or comments about Chapter 3 would not be discussed until October 3, does that sound good to everyone else?

Let's plan on discussing the prologue and the first three chapters on Monday. I'll post some discussion questions over the weekend so we can get started.

Jewell, should we start a new thread?

I look forward to reading this book and talking with you all. Please feel free to email or post on my wall if you have questions or comments for me!

Thanks, Debbi

Oh my goodness Owen. What a horrible thing, for your debit card info to be out is a serious thing. But your Nook crashed? You DO have some sorting to do. Be blessed. If you are not able to get up and running, I'll handle it. No pressure.

I've got some fires to put out at work and home this week (my nook crashed last week and I'm still not all the back up on that, and someone stole my credit/debit card number!) I plan to look at the book this weekend and try to break it into even sections so we can have set discussion questions each week.

NO it would be that we start together and read a certain amount of chapters the first week and so forth. That's how book clubs generally work. You have to complete a certain amount in a week and then you discuss it. But this decision will be for Owensaunt1. We can do it however she wants.

Yes, definitely Bright Young Things for October. I'm so excited about that one. I'm not reading Jesus at Walmart because I had a couple of other ebooks waiting in the wings from the library that I need to read before my checkout time expires.

And, of course, everyone is welcome!

I hope you all do not mind if I join in on the October reading, (or the end of September for that matter! :-))

So far I have gathered that "Jesus at Walmart" is on the list for the end of this month? And "Bright Young Things" for October?

Just trying to clarify so I can jump in on the next book! :-) Thank you all!

Good news! The book takes a different direction than the one I feared. The drug situation is not the focus. Don't want to say more to spoil it for anyone.

Just to make sure, we're talking about the book by Rick Leland? I did not find it to be coarse or offensive, but somewhat unrealistic. The book I'm reading starts with the local Police trying to search Pastor Neil's home for marijuana. He is refusing to let them search so they call Pastor Malachi, the youth pastor. The police seem to be reacting as if Pastor Neil was dealing drugs and had a stash worth going after. Pastor Malachi acts as if the guy was doing heroin. If you're wondering where I'm coming from. I have worked with people with drug problems and the fallout drugs cause for their kids for the last twenty years. By the time they come to the attention of my agency things are pretty serious. Also i live in a large city as opposed to a small town. The police here are usually too busy with murders and hard core drugs. Anyway, I will continue reading it because I want to see where this all goes.

I've only read a few pages, but am going to read it to see if I can gain some insight. My friend's husband is/was a pastor and she a praise team leader. With no warning he left the family (4 kids) back in March. It turned out he had an affair but his problems go deeper. He has hidden whatever it is for a long time and they are still working through which direction to take for their future. This was a complete shock since they would not even have made the list of people this could happen to. Anyway I asked some friends for prayer on their behalf. Beverly ran across this book recently and suggested it. With the preface that it is poorly written and sold as fiction but probably a true story. She thought it may shed some light on a dark situation. So I know the subject matter must be coarse and offensive, as the sin of man is ugly. So I apologize for that.

I'm reading several other books, but would love discussion on one in particular. Beaverleaf told me about it, because it may be helpful to my friend who is going through marital difficulties. It is called "Jesus at Walmart". If we all finish Brides then we can do that one for the end of Sept. Or just begin the new one.

I just ordered "Bright Young Things". I did not know about Free Fridays and mentioned this to my husband. He said they are mainly "girly books". Well guess what?.... I am one. :)

Even though some of us are finished with 16 Brides, others have a busier life and are going slower. Maybe keep this book for October and suggest another book from the same author and a sub discussion. Just a thought. - Hugs, Laurel

maybe my link didn't work. The book was called Bright Young Things by Anna Godberson.

The overview provided by bn.com says it's like Gossip Girl Meets the Great Gatsby. They describe it as:

For a limited time, the first book in New York Times bestselling author Anna Godbersen’s epic new series Bright Young Things is available for free. Also includes an excerpt from the forthcoming sequel Beautiful Days and fashion tips on how to achieve the perfect flapper look.

The year is 1929. New York is ruled by the Bright Young Things: flappers and socialites seeking thrills and chasing dreams in the anything-goes era of the Roaring Twenties.

Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey escaped their small Midwestern town for New York's glittering metropolis. All Letty wants is to see her name in lights, but she quickly discovers Manhattan is filled with pretty girls who will do anything to be a star. . . .

Cordelia is searching for the father she's never known, a man as infamous for his wild parties as he is for his shadowy schemes. Overnight, she enters a world more thrilling and glamorous than she ever could have imagined—and more dangerous. It's a life anyone would kill for . . . and someone will.

The only person Cordelia can trust is ¬Astrid Donal, a flapper who seems to have it all: money, looks, and the love of Cordelia's brother, Charlie. But Astrid's perfect veneer hides a score of family secrets.

Across the vast lawns of Long Island, in the ¬illicit speakeasies of Manhattan, and on the blindingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girls' fortunes will rise and fall—together and apart. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Luxe comes an epic new series set in the dizzying last summer of the Jazz Age. "

I would be happy to lead the October discussion if you'd like.

I don't have much of a suggestion on how to pace this month, though. I'm more than halfway through 16 Brides and I plan on finishing tomorrow as I have down time between my niece's 9:00 a.m. soccer game and her 2:30 p.m. soccer game - ugh!

I looked on Amazon and can't find the book. Can you send me the link for kindle? All I saw was an advertisement for free kindle books on fridays. But not for the book Free Friday by JeremyCesarec.

I am happy to do it, if everyone agrees. What chapter are you on in 16 Brides? I think it is going to be hard to stretch this out for a month. Then the problem becomes that everyone reads the selection prior to the month beginning. How can we keep everyone at a somewhat same pace? Any ideas? Do you want to run the October club discussion?
