I also would love to goto Galapagos, but it's so far for me! By the way diverchick, I'm 2 hours away from Truk (now called Chuuk) and you have to stop by Guam to get there unless you are taking the island hopper from Hawaii so if you go to Truk, look me uphere in Guam. Truk was pretty amazing, all wreck dives. But if you are in Micronesia, you've got to go to Palau! (also 2 hours from here).
Other places I want to go are the Red Sea and the Maldives.

I really want to dive Truk and Galapagos. One of my bff dive buddies is going to Galapagos in November and it about killed me to have to say I couldn't make it. But one of these days.

I had the chance to dive Cocos Island last summer and it was AMAZING! Truly a surreal experience with the big animal action on EVERY SINGLE DIVE. It was hard to get back in the water when I got back to Florida because Cocos spoiled me! I'd go back there again in a heartbeat!

I'm going to Bali for a yoga teacher's training/retreat but I've been to Bali many times already and I've been to most of the spots already. I almost went to the Gili islands last Nov. Where do you live? How's Sulawesi for diving? I really didn't think Bali was that great, the vis was quite bad. What are the harder to get to places? I like adventure. I'll be in Bali but I want to go other places for diving. Thinking of going to Sulawesi. Any suggestions?

Yes that's where I live right now. There's lots of places to go but some are harder to get to. Bali has some good spots, Lombok (across the straright and Wallace Line) is also good. Sulawesai and Paupa are also good.

Where are you going in Indonesia?

Definitely the Galapagos. I am a little bit worried about the difficulty though, I think I'll wait 100 or so more dives before I go for it.

We had booked to do a liveaboard and learn to dive with one place. The first day, 15 minutes before they were to pick us up at the hotel, they called and said the boat was still being fix - first time we heard about that! They did get us in with another company that was okay. Our first instructor was brilliant, did Open Water with him and half our advance. The next instructor was not very interested and not very good. The boat was okay but not such a family boat. The diving was nice. There are lots of choices in Australia and it depends on where you start from. The boats only get to go to certain sites under the government rules. You can check on the Padi web site for the different places. It's nice to be out on the reef on a liveaboard instead of travelling back and forth every day.

If you go to Cairns, check and see if they still give "Reef Talk". The speaker was a marine biologist who was really informative and entertaining. It was free or really cheap and worth the time to go. Can't remember the shop that hosted it, sorry but their should be advertising around town on it.

Thanks for the insights. We are buying a boat so we can reach more of the great sights here in Cenderwashi Bay but Papua Diving is great for the resort type of diving. When you dove in the GBR did you have a company you would recommend? Have you done a live aboard there?

Jodi, I learned to dive at the Great Barrier Reef. It's nice, more western so they tend to follow the rules more if you know what I mean. The GBR has 300 different species where Indoneisa has 3000. I did like that it was clean and the water was really clear. You do get a chance to see sharks, which are one of my favourites.

We thougth Papua would be a great place to go as well. Also want to try the Komodo live aboard trip.

I would love to dive the Great Barrier Reef and in the Keys. This summer I am going to the Caymans, Mexico and Belize and I can't wait to go diving in those places either!!!

I want to go to the Great Barrier Reef, has anyone been there yet? We went to Sorong for our anniversary, it has some of the most diverse dive sites in the world. www.papua-diving.com Other divers there didn't recommend the GBR all that much and wondered what others think.

Hey Daisy--
Let me know if you're going to be anywhere near Key West. Perhaps we'll be able to meet up.

I don't believe there is a winery per se, but there is a store in Old Town Key West which calls itself a winery. I haven't been in, but have lookie loo'd in the windows and it appears it sells different sorts of tropical fruit "wines". I'll go in soon and give you a full report.

Just firmed up our plans!!! We are going to the keys in March. At least 3-4 days of diving!!!!

But I want to dive a lot of places, some I don't even know about yet. I guess the greatest I can imagine at this point is the Australia's Great Barrier Reef!!!

I want to go back to Belize and dive the Blue Hole, then Honduras. I think the local dive club is planning a trip to Bonair for the fall and I'm excited for that too.

The next time I go home to visit my family I plan on going here.

http://www.2dive.com/btm.htm

I was going to take the bf when we went last summer, but for whatever reason, there wasn't any availability for us to go. It would have been great too because all the days we were visiting it was over 100 degrees.
We did however manage to go on two different winery tours. Funny how all my posts come around to that, isn't it?
