Hey team - put in your two cents!!!!

Should we continuie using the CHALLANGE page as our daily chit - chat page or create a new topic called
Daily chit-chat.

I am all for KISS!! It is easier to go to one page and preview then opening and cloing 10 different emails...

???????????????????

To be honest with ouy, I tend to only check out a few of the new topics, I get so many emails a day... I find the teams that have one main chatting topic are easier to follow. But that is just me!

Hi Daisy, we could let the topics develop as needed I guess. Everyone can weigh in! I'm cool whichever way and keep surfing our team to see whats going on everywhere.

Hi Michela,
Yesterday I had blackend tilapia and veggies for lunch. And then for second lunch (LOL) I had a chk burrito supreme from Taco Hell (my loving name for it). I didn't really eat much of my lunch, bc we were chatting the whole time, so I ate again later.
Anyway...Do you want me to set up more topics??? I did an introduce yourself one just now. But it is up to you guys. There are so few of us, that I don't know if we need it. If you want more topics I could set up:Challenges, which we have, but we could start using just for our weekly or periodic Challenges we set up, Just diving for dive talk, and Just chatting for everything else. Let me know what you think.
I head home tomorrow. But then leave again on Friday (just for the weekend). I hope I will do okay on food over the weekend. It is so tough when traveling!
Daisy

Hi Kat, or is it Kate?
Welcome aboard. We are a small group, but we have fun here. We all try hard here, but if you view our "challenge" topic, you will see, we sometimes fall off the wagon. I'm off the wagon and in a hole right now....LOL

Glad to have you in our group.

Well I am about 10-12 hours from there. We had talked about coming New years and giving it a shot. Wanted to come during Lobster season - but I am thinking that's about to end if it hasn't already.
If you have any suggestions, send them my way.
Thanks so much. Glad to have you on our team. emoticon

We live in Key West. I can see a glimpse of the Gulf of Mexico across all the ugly rooftops from my apartment. I was living on a yacht (not mine, some kooky rich guy we worked for), but for now we're landbased. Hopefully, not for much longer. It's rainy and windy and cold for Key West today, but it beats being in a lot of the rest of North America.
My bf has to dive on anchors at work, but he hasn't done any pleasure diving here. I refuse to get in the water until it reaches about 80 degrees. He just jumps right in, must be from all those winters when he lived in far northern Illinois. I'm terribly claustrophobic so wearing a wetsuit makes me too wiggy.
I've met tons of people here who have told me about some really interesting places to go diving, but it's going to have to wait until Spring.

Hi
I was just browsing through some of the teams and on a whim decided to search for divers and there you were.
I was PADI certified a few years ago on the island of St Croix. I was living on St Thomas until recently when my boyfriend (also a PADI diver--he's working on getting more certifications and I'm quite content with just being open water certified) and I moved to Key West for a job, but hopefully we'll be back in the Caribbean by next fall and running our own charter boat.
All of my diving has been in the Caribbean, but I plan on doing some diving here as soon as it warms up a little. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold water.
I'm really looking forward to reading about some of your adventures.
Cheers!
Kate

Join our challenge, if you like! Have a great weekend!

Hi, I just joined the group.
I live in Alberta and have been advanced PADI cert. for 16 years. I have only done my cert. open water dives in open water, though I have about 400 dives under my belt! lol I used to work at the mall as Aquatic maintenance. The deepest dive site is 20ft.
I would love to go to the ocean and dive. I have only dove in the Rockies. The temps are a little chilly. The one deep dive we did was nice at the serface, 17c but under the thermocline was only 8c BRR! My first dive was in June and only 13c. That is when you love your hood and gloves. We wear 13ml suits here.
My DH is NOT a diver, will never be so I never get to go anymore, though my 13 yo DS would love to be certified and go with me! Maybe this summer... though there ia obviously not much diving here.

I never thought about the river not having the thermo-cline. How deep is the river? And did you say there are wrecks? How is visibility? I like wrecks but what I really like are the fish and other underwater life. Right now I have the most inexpensive (non disposable) underwater camera. I took so many photos in mexico and the keys. I get so excited I take photos of everything. I love all the coral you see in the ocean, too.

I have a hard time with the heavy wet suits. I guess mainly the hoods. I feel so constrained, and it kind of gives me a neck/headache. Anyway, good talking to you. It is interesting to hear other peoples experiences.

There is a special going out of Ottawa to Orlando, but I will drive around. I want to bring the family to Crystal river. At the beginning of the season I wear a 7mm 1 piece with a 7mm shorty and hood on top. mid summer i just wear my 7mm 1 piece no hood.
Trouble with the quarry is you have thermal, in the river same temp all the way down.

CNDDiver,
Where in Florida will you be going? And just curious, what weight wet suit do you wear in the St. Lawrence? We own 3 mil suits, but have to rent heavier ones for diving in the local quarry. It's about 65 in the summer (if I remember correctly). I never thought about Cuba. That would be exciting.
Daisy
P.S. to all, I am purposely a little vague sometimes. I am not comfortable giving out too much info on the internet (sorry).

I was supposed to dive in central FL in December, but my husbands business schedule changed so I still went for my visit, but didn't do any diving. How did you like Crystal river? I have family near there. Where did you dive from (meaning did you go with a dive shop tour, on your own and what area of Crystal River)? Did you see Manatees? Also, where is Devils Den? I could look it up, but thought I'd ask your opinion on it. What do you see when you dive there? Lots of fish? Oh, and I was just telling my husband we should take a vacation to Destin. Because its got beautiful beaches, we could go diving, and he could go deep sea fishing.

Sounds like you both have awards over me!?!
Being new to the DIve sceen and from Ga. I have so far dove @ Devils Den - central Fl. and Crystal River; planning panhandle diving this summer - springs and the gulf. Signing up Friday to do volunteer work at a local aquarium - just for reg time and fun with the kids viewing.

What gear do you guys support?

Hi Daisy
I have been certified 5 years, I am now a PADI divemaster. I mostly dive in the St Lawerance near the mouth of lake ontario. the water temp in the summer is mid 70's, not too bad. lots of wrecks and drift diving. I have been to Cozumel once and Cuba 4 times. Canadians are allowed lol, the diving is great, Cuba is a great place, people are super friendly, the resorts top notch, and best of all CHEAP. I have met many americans in cuba who get there by leaving from Canada. I plan on going to Flrlida in March. My family all got certified last summer, wife and kids, my son is the keenest and daughter and wife occasionaly

I thought we should dicuss a bit of diving since that is what this team is based on. I was originally certified in '97 but left Florida for the midwest, within a few months of getting certifed. So...I just got re-certified this past summer. I have been diving off the coast of West Palm, Key Largo, the local quarry, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Mexico was amazing. We even got a video.
