2009 was pretty ok....
From the scuba point of view, I got certified and completed a few dives.. all cold water though and inland- so for 2010 I am looking forward to a trip in April where I'll have a day to go diving in Honduras, so my first warm water and first ocean dive all in one!

2009 sucked. 2010 is going to rock, because I am going to change my life forever.

emoticon Duddah and congrats on your certification! I agree, I would much rather dive in warm water too. Hope to see you in the lounge where we hang out!

2009 was the year I got certified as an open water diver...then as an advanced OW. We dive in the Pacific Northwest in drysuits. I had completed a total of 10 dives when we went to Cozumel. Wow! Warm water diving rocks! We are already planning another trip to Cozumel in April! Can't wait! We stay at Hotel Cozumel (which is decent but not spectacular) but because we are out diving so much don't spend a lot of time at the hotel). We use Dive Paradise and the DM's we used last year were so great and attentive to a newbie like me! Can't wait to get back there this year.

We stayed at the Occidental Grand all 3 times we have been there. It just feels like home now. It is a ways from town but they have a nice beach there. Last trip we did not leave the resort at all anyway!
We ran into people form the previous years too so it was fun. If we can get a decent rate and we do decide to go back we would most likely go there again. We could have stayed at the Hotel Cozumel for a fraction of the price last year but still ended up paying more to go the the Occidental.

That is alot of diving in 5.5 days doll! Wow you pack it in. If we are both there at the same time we must get together. Would be so nice to meet you too.

We stayed at the Wyndham all inclusive the last 2 times (used to be Reef Club). Great location, but the place is just OK. We spend very little time at the resort because we dive a lot(2008, we dove 22 dives in 5 1/2 days). I've also stayed up north at the Cozumelano, which is a better place, but not as convenient to the reefs. I want to look into renting a condo or house next time. The all inclusives are hard to beat for great deals and convenience, so I just don't know. We use DiveEco (aka Roberta's place/Blue Bubble/Scuba Shack). Great dive masters

Where do you like to stay? Would love to meet you down there in July.

Becky, sounds like quite an adventure! What a great trip! How long will you be there?

If we go anywhere it will be mid July b4 we can get away. I also love Palancar horsehoe! Love those swimthroughs! We never went to Hobox. They were there when we went 2 yrs ago but it was expensive so we passed on that. Where do you stay when you go to Coz?

Hi Michela - No diving in Peru, but lots of land activities. We're flying over the Nasca lines, hiking a good chunk of the Inca trail, Cusco, Lima, Sacred Valley, and of course Machu Picchu. Wish I had time/money to hit the Amazon too, but not this trip. None of my close female friends dive, but I keep hoping a couple will get certified.

When are you thinking about heading to Cozumel? We're looking at late Feb or mid-July if we can find a good deal. I'm dreaming of Palancar Horseshoe. Have you ever gone over to Hobox to see the whale sharks? I hear June/July is the best time for that and it's on my Yucatan wish list. Cheaper to fly into Cancun than Cozumel too.

Ron - Welcome to the scuba addiction! Ain't it great?

Ron, you are like the rest of us Scuba junky's! lol!

Becky, for the time we are able to get away, looks like Cozumel is the easiest & cheapest dive destintation for us to get to so chances are good that we will be back there this year. Awesome about going to Peru! Will it be a dive vacation?

Yes, nitrox is definitely on my to-do-list for 2010! Scuba, wow! I feel like a kid in a candy store; I have so many things I want to do and places I want to go. I know, I have to pace myself! :)

Cheer's!

Ron

Ron - thanks for posting this topic. 2009 was a good year personally and diving-wise, not so good professionally. I didn't meet my weight loss goals, although I worked hard to become more fit.

Highlights were diving the Blue Hole and Turneffe Atoll in Belize and finding the nerve and energy to shore dive in Bonaire.

No dive trips planned for 2010 (YET). Hope to make it back to Cozumel. Looking forward to 10 days in Peru in May with my girl pals. I will continue to work on my aerobic endurance, so I'll be fit enough to hike the Inca trail.

Tina - AWESOME work on the divemaster course. I am so proud of you.

Ron - I recommend getting your enriched air(nitrox) certification too. It makes a big difference when doing repetitive diving and increases bottom time.

Mich - Hope you can make it back to Cozumel in 2010 too. I so missed it last year.

That's great Tina! You are going all the way with your diving! We also did not get around to do much local diving last year and am happy we had the 2 weeks in Cozumel to make up for it. Wish we could take time off 4 July to get in a weeks dive trip but does not look like it will ahppen so I have a long wait b4 I get wet again!

Ok, I'll go next...
I've signed up to take the Divemaster course at my dive center. I've taken the first two tests (of eight) and in two weeks I will do the swim tests. After the swim tests and a third test, I will be able to start helping with classes.

I'm also hoping that the house sale goes through and put that part of my life behind me.

I want to do more diving this year. I was kinda lazy about it last year because our summer here in Wisconsin was on the cool side. So, whatever the weather this summer, I'm gonna get wet!!!!

Besides that, I can't really make too many plans unless i know if the house is sold or not. I'm hoping I'm NOT moving back into the house in May cuz that will mean the sale won't go through! I NEED it to happen so I can move on with my life!!!!

I am a person of infinite possibilities and dreams.

Hey Ron! Sounds like an awesome plan for 2010! emoticon You are all set and best of luck with your advanced cert!

You are not the only one hanging their head in shame about gaining a few over the holidays but not to fret. We will get them off again!

Happy New Year to you too!

Ok, I'll go first since I asked the question.

2009 was a great year of which I enjoyed so much success! Started SP in March and by September had lost 40 pounds and reached my goal, yahoo! November I took scuba lessons and received my open-water certification. Again, yahoo! I’ve been collecting scuba equipment for most of 2009, some of you on this board even gave me advice and helped me select my equipment, thank you! This Christmas my darling wife bought a BCD for me (DiveRite backplate w/deluxe harness, 45# lift wing). What a sweetie eh? How about another round of yahoo!

So what devious plans do I have for 2010? First, loose the 6 pounds I gained between Thanksgiving and Christmas (picture me, head hung with shame but holding a steely-eyed-determined-resolve to loose it!). Next?
Dive – Dive – Dive!
Now owning all my scuba equipment (except tanks, I’ll rent those for awhile) I’m ready to blow bubbles. I’ve already signed up for my advanced open water-course for January and will start working on advanced skills and certifications. I’m looking at night diving, deep water, navigation, search and rescue and not totally sure beyond that but wrecks appeal to me (I’m right in the middle of the book “Shadow Divers”, a must read if wrecks interests you).

So, I’m very glad to have met this bunch of great people in 2009, and looking forward to 2010!
You people rock!!!
Happy New Years one and all!

Cheers!

Ron
