Congrats on the 30 year DiveDiva! That will be a great way to celebrate. We are talking of trying to get to Bonaire for a week just after Christmas.

Peterborough ON Canada. Did my open water cert dives in the Trent and Crowe Rivers. Vastly different from the Carribean. I think I like the warm water much better thank you. Planning a special dive vacation with DH this winter to celebrate 30 years of marriage! We are thinking of Bonaire or Curacao or...

I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico...just down the road from the world famous Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, NM...where the water never gets over 62 degrees...makes it a bit tough for newbies who are forced to get their certification there.

Yes, I am afraid that I have been away doing a lot of pre-deployment training lately for my upcoming tour in Afghanistan(and I'm heading out in two weeks for another 7 weeks training in Germany and Kingston). I have been good about weightlifting and running though, and last night my wife and I started Yoga classes together which was great.

ATHENAMUM - that is so funny! I went to high school in Edmonton (Sherwood Park, actually), and can remember going to West Edmonton Mall shortly after it opened. We went on the submarines, and one came off the track! "Mr Diver" had to come and rescue us! I guess that is the kind of thing you did. I also remember the dolphins - it was pretty amazing when it first opened.

Hello Everyone,

Just joined the team and haven't introduced myself or said hello...

I'm in Toronto but had the great fortune of growing up in Curacao, so every visit to me family has a dive vacation built-in...

I'm what PADI calls a 'Master Scuba Diver' - not ot be confused with a Dive Master. I've completed the AOW + Rescue Diver + 5 specialties.

Hoping to head down to Curacao in July.

I am in Edmonton Alberta. I haven't done much open water diving, only enough to be advanced certified. I did all those dives in the Jasper lakes. Nice dives but very lame. The most interesting fish are the trout. lol

I did work as underwater maintenance at West Edmonton Mall several years ago and on the submarines as a captain. The lake there is about the size of a football field surrounded by fish tanks, including the big dolphin pool. Though since I quit all the dolphins have past on... very sad but all died of old age. They have sea lions there now. We also cleaned the wave pool and the splash down pools in the water park.
So though I have more than 500 dives in my log, only 8 have been in open water lol.

You are SO lucky to be based on Victoria Island. I did some diving off Quadra Island with DynaMike a couple of years ago. It was some of the best and most memorable diving I've ever done. Everything underwater was huge, plentiful and very colourful, even the visibility was excellent.

I intend to go back there one day, although next time, I'll take my drysuit. One of the most vivid memories I have is someone pouring hot water down the front of my wetsuit! The other was lolling around in a hot tub after the dive emoticon (hot tubs are NOT the norm in the UK)

We took the ferry over to the mainland on Thursday, and I had my daughters out with my on the bow of the ship as we transited Active Passage, a beautiful narrow channel that passes between two islands - lots of bald eagles out, and we spotted tow big seals swimming just near the ship, which was a treat for my girls.

Victoria, Vancouver Island, on the West Coast of British Columbia. Some nice diving out here - Giant Pacific Octopus, ling cod, wolf eels, even the odd six-gill shark. And on boat trips you can often catch sight of orcas swimming nearby, while gazing out at the Pacific rainforest and mountains. Yeah, provided you don't mind cold water, it is pretty sweet.... :)

DIVEBUNNY - you are on Andros Island? I did some work down there, years ago, at AUTEC, and went out on all my days off spearfishing with the U.S. divers there. I thought they were kidding me when they said we would see lots of sharks while we were spearing (you know, "scare the Canadian"). No, they weren't kidding - we saw scads of sharks, including a huge (probably 11ft) archead hammerhead - absolutely amazing!

I'm in Northern Virginia. Local diving is in a quarry. Quarry closed for the winter, so the only diving I'm doing is pool sessions for students, and I am a diver at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, so I get to swim and feed the fishies on a regular basis! emoticon

A 2 pc 7mm is the minimum for us here in Montreal! Alot of people do dive dry in early spring and fall and of course those insane ice divers! YIKES!!!

When I go south I always wear a 3mm and feel very comfortable with it. I tend to get cold on my 2nd dive even in 84 degree water. I guess I am just as bad as you are with cold temps Mandy

I'm at Small Hope Bay, Andros Island in the Bahamas.

It's "cold" here right now (about 68 F) and the water is "freezing" (about 72 F). Yeah, yeah, I am a baby. I'm wearing jeans, a hoodie and my Uggs right now and I have been wearing two 3mm shorties and a 3mm Farmer John in the water.

I think I'll go eat a WHAAAAAAmburger and some french Cries. emoticon

Well, I live in the UK, Wales - and we went diving a couple of weeks ago in a quarry, it was so, so cold 5C BRRR!!! in the water which means to you imperial guys 41F. On exit - my feet and hands were so numb I couldn't move them! I think that was the coldest dive I've ever done. Has anyone out there been diving in water colder than that?

I like warm water, but making my first cool water dive not really sure 58 is too cold or not but I prefer 85 to 58 but since I live in the Kansas City MO are not a lot of local dive spots worth mentioning. Though I am making my first of two trips to Bonne Terre which is south of St Louis, where the water temp is 58 all year. Had to purchase a 7MM for the trip ouch, I look like the the Michelin man!
My wife and I are trying to decide whether to go to Hawaii and dive or head back to Cozumel which we did last year. Cozumel much more cost effective but we have never been to Hawaii.

I am at the Jersey Shore. Too new to scuba to reply to most of these posts, but am definitely getting inspired by reading them!! I took my cert. in December and have to wait for warmer temps here to finish my open water dive. My "buddy" also just had foot surgery and can't get wet- otherwise we'd head somewhere a bit warmer.
I am chomping at the bit-
I am looking forward to reading more stories and learning from all your experiences!!

I agree with you there! It's great a having a regular buddy too who you can trust. Our whole summer revolves around diving and I can't imagine not sharing it with someone special. And of course he is so thrilled that I dive and love it cause now he gets to dive more than he ever did befire I was certified.

My guy & I are talking about maybe doing our rescue this summer too. I wanted to do it last summer and then decided to get more dives in first. You dove in some great places Kristina. I got my OW cert in '06 and my AOW in '07, so have not been diving to long. My bf was certified awhile ago and he got me into diving.

Northern WI. 30 miles south of the UP boarder. Very cold here. I did my open water cert in 56 degree water in 93. My husband and I are both advanced cert. but would like to do rescue diver cert this summer.

We have dove in the lakes up here, they are very clear spring fed, but cold. Lake Superior has great wreck dives as it is fresh water and cold so everything is preseved perfectly. BUT we prefer warm water diving. Most recent trip was St. Croix in BVI last winter. Great diving, not heavily traveled so coral and sea life abundant. Other places are the Keys Favorite dive is the Speigel Grove wreck off Key Largo. Antigua, Jamacia, and Bahamas.

We are going to Bora Bora this Sept to dive and celebrate our 10th anniversary. Can't wait!

I've dived in Lake Tahoe. Nothing to see down there, just lots of boulders and crawdads, but the viz is pretty good compared to Folsom Lake --which is uber-cold and essentially a big, fat mud puddle. Aw well, diving is diving.

AW has dived in the Sacramento River and the American River (work-related), but not Lake Tahoe yet.

Did you guys ever dive the river in Sacramento? Lake Tahoe?

I live in St. Louis, Missouri. I don't care for cold water diving, so we head to warm salt water whenever possible. Favorites are Cozumel and Grand Cayman.

We're headed to Tampa/St. Pete for New Year's, so hopefully I'll get a couple of tanks in.

I live in South Carolina in a small but lovely town called Turbeville. I can drive to Myrtle Beach in 80 minutes and I plan to dive on some of the artificial reefs (subway cars) that our DNR department sank a few summers ago.

Wanaka, New Zealand. I mostly dived in the North Island around Great Barrier Island, and also Goat Island where I did my training. I haven't done any altitude diving yet (we are 350 metres above sea level in this town), so I'm hoping to sit my Advanced Open Water Cert this summer (middle of winter here right now) and try some out in the summer. Not too sure if there will be much to see though.

I'm heading to Orlando/Tampa area in the morning! Live on a lake in NC where there isn't much visibility but the water is warm and it's always fun to be able to walk in from your back door.

Do what you say you will do :)

50 degrees.... Tina, you amaze me! I've been getting cold in 82 degrees, when the water temp has fallen. Of course, the first time we'd been underwater for two hours... And I'm not wearing thermal protection...

Hey, Alef, who do you dive with there - what shop? My brother got certified and does similar diving through Dolphin.
Met another diver, this week, who was certified there, too. So I'm having even more small-world experiences...

I live near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I dive in the local inland lakes and sometimes in Lake Michigan. I don't mind the cool water, but don't like it when its much below 50 F. I'm okay down to 42, but don't care for it much, since I dive wet in a 7 mil suit.

I am a person of infinite possibilities and dreams.

I'm living in the Barracuda Suite at Villa Aldora on beautiful Isla de Cozumel. For the month of July anyway!
In 10 more days reality bites, and I return to my normal home one mile outside Atlanta.
They've spoiled me incredibly, and it's going to be a tough transition!!!!

I dive some in Florida - Treasure Coast area, but I tend to head to the Caribe or Bahamas for most of my diving.

Welcome to the boat, new members! See you in the Lounge when I stop long enough to come hang out!

I live in San Francisco. I understand there is some great diving just south of me in Monterey, but I haven't checked it out yet. It's pretty darn cold! But I'll probably make my way down there sooner or later!

Great idea for a thread Nikki!

Also from Montreal,Canada! I start diving locally by end of June when the water temp is in the mid 60's. Tried a little early this year at 57 degrees but will not do that again. If I had to choose I would prefer warm water diving in the tropics anyday!

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand. But I do all my diving in warm tropical water. It definitely isn't warm enough for me around the NZ Coasts.

I am located in utah. I know ironic huh utah where there isn't a single ocean around! LOL I am just very passionate about diving, I want to be a marine biologist so a few years ago I got certified just to see what it was going to be like and I am dying to get to a place where I can dive on a regular basis!
