Hey Dennis way to go on the swimming! I hate to admit it, especially being a diver but I’m a lousy swimmer – never could get the whole overhead stroke thing down and find an “air-pocket” big enough to catch a breath.
Mich, sounds like the new place is coming together and you know it will be more than worth it in the end. Just hang in there!
Tina, Kinch, anyone else I may have missed; sounds like you’re busy but well.
I’ve been plenty busy myself but took last Thursday off work so the DD and I could get in a couple dives before she gets busy with school. Just spending time together was good but doing something together we’re both so passionate about was wonderful. Funny how relationships with our children change with time and age: When they’re little we’re hero’s; during the teens we’re dumber than a rock; as they progress into adulthood we start getting smart again! It's nice to be thought of as somewhat smart again. She watched me descend a line in perfect trim, managing my dry suit, turning on camera and flash, clearing ears etc and a dozen other tasks all while watching out for her. We get to the bottom and I have my buoyancy under control and settle into a motionless hover 3 feet off the bottom while she crashes down raising a cloud of muck and debris. I loved showing her that the old guy’s got some “skills”! Now if only I could do that everytime - but don't tell her I cant ;) BTW, we saw 8 wolf eels along with one “old man” with a head as big as a basketball! Awesome!
Hope your all having a great week!
Ron

I finally got down to LaJolla Cove today and found a friend to swim with. We only swam for 35 min, but it was great getting out in the Ocean again. That was the only fun Ocean swim I've done this year, I really miss swimming in the Ocean, even if it's almost 20 degrees colder than our pool.

Little steps - in all things! The kitchen is coming along, you're back to home cooking, soon you'll be back to little Mich.

Last week was HECTIC but I think I'm handling the stress better because I'm doing more OA telephone meetings and asking God to take what I call "this false hunger" away. Also, the DD and I, at the same time, decided that we were going to stay after work/school and work out at the our respective gyms. The gym for the students are free and there's a separate free one for staff, which isn't anywhere near as nice, but I'll take it. I'm also journaling and drinking more water -- in the morning, that way I'm not getting up so much at night.

Chem and I are also increasing our dancing, so even though I didn't see any changes this week and truly BELIEVE it's coming soon.

Hey Kinch happy to hear the weekend was bang on! emoticon

Well, porcelain floor tiles are in and they looked awesome! Electrician coming tonight, then some plasterwork scheduled for tomorrow so we postponed our cabinet installation to Monday. T will install a temporary sink for the weekend and with the outdoor grill we will be able to eat decent again. Not sure I want to weigh in tomorrow. I am UP big time!

Gotta say, I don't envy you, Mich. It's hard enough for me to lose with the kitchen intact! And doing dishes in the tub?!?!? OY. Good luck, Mich, I know you'll succeed.

Michela, several years ago I was without a kitchen while I was remodeling (in a home in the past) for a couple of weeks, and, did rather well at preparing food with only a microwave and a toaster oven. I did dishes in the bathtub! I know you can do just fine through this!

Dennis, I'm so impressed that you did so well! What were the ages of the ones that finished before you?? I'm betting they were all a lot younger, and I'm glad you gave them a run for their money! I know you will do better next time! I think you are awesome!

Please don't feel bad aqua man, you completed it, and I'm a person who couldn't even get started! I can't swim the narrow side of a standard pool without stopping. Congrats on your near 5th place -- they better watch out for you next year!!!

Meanwhile, in Maryland, canast-- I mean, the hotel stay was really great. DH was very liberal in his praise, and he talked about coming back when it's NOT on the house,

Hi, Gang,

I leave you guys alone for a few weeks and look at all that's happening! Glad to see it! Congratulations to all those reaching big goals and milestones! My thoughts and prayers still go out to those who need it (which is pretty much everyone, because if we're not the one with the health issue, we're helping the one with the health issue).

I'm getting back to the monthly challenges and plan to stick it out to the end of the year. (oh, yeah, and beyond, of course). I've been "attending" Overeaters Anon TELEPHONE mtgs., journaling more and writing down what I plan to eat for the day and that seems to be working. I started doing this in earnest on Labor Day and I'm happy to report I pretty much stuck to what I wrote down. Next, back to "training" for my next 5K.

Tomorrow, the DH and I will be taking an overnight trip to a nearby hotel. He'll be there for the hell of it, I'll be there to work on a short story I'm writing. Canasta may work its way in there somewhere.

It's a beautiful day for walking on campus so I'm going to do that soon.

May everyone have a superfantastic weekend!

TGIF gang!

Congrats Tina & Ron on your 200th dive! emoticon
Ron I also averaged apx 50 dives a year and would have been close to 300 this year if it wasn't for the house and my mom being ill. All I got was the one! Come to think of it I lost a lot of dives 2 yrs ago when I had surgery so it would have been closer to 350. emoticon I have a lot of catching up to do. Hope next year will be a better year.
So cool you both going away before and after TG! Make some bubbles for me.

Tina, Coz is SO safe! No worries there doll and a great place for an affordable dive vaca. Go for it!

Ron, awesome news on your son doing so well and you getting away for some diving!

Dennis good luck with the race Go get em! emoticon

Shout to Kinch! emoticon

We will be demolishing the kitchen this weekend! Fun time ahead! NOT!! emoticon
Tina it is slave work BUT I know you are right and it will all be worth it. The cabinets will be installed next Friday if all goes to plan.
I am looking forward to a nice brand new kitchen. The one there is not bad but not functional. The previous owners did a band aid job with their reno a few yrs back.
We will be putting in new porcelain floor tiles, wood cabinets in a modern shaker style, granite counter tops and ceramic backsplash. It will take a 2 months before it is all in as my backsplash is backordered till Nov 1. I have not even shopped for light fixtures or the hardware for my cabinets yet and have to find time to do that this weekend.

So that my weekend guys, hope you will all be having fun! emoticon

Wow Tina, that is a coincident! - True, I do dive a fair amount but remember I started diving the same time I became active on this board which was less than 4 years ago, so a little over 50 dives a year.

We're talking about Bonaire in 2014.

Hey Ron! We have something in common besides just diving...I just did my #200 dive this past week, too! Cool!!! I was a bit surprised because I thought you had lots more dives than that, since it seems you are always diving somewhere! Seems like such a big number, 200, doesn't it?! Wow. Are we good, or what?!!??!

I'm glad your son is doing so well. I'm sure you had a wonderful time away, but still worried a little bit about him.

Cool about you going to Cozumel the week before Thanksgiving. I hope you have a marvelous time! Todd and I are going to Bonaire the day after Thanksgiving for a week. We're both going to have fun around Thanksgiving!

Dennis, Don't worry about the time for your swim...I'm sure it will be faster the day of the race! I'm rooting for you!

Hi Mich, Tina, Kinch, Dennis and anyone else I may have missed. I'm hoping and praying for all of you and or your family members who are going through issues. Speaking of which my son seems to be doing pretty well - well enough that Mary and I was able to leave him for a couple days this past weekend for the Puget Sound. We rented a house with 2 other couples and had a great time. Also on this trip, I celebrated dive #200 and yesterday, Mary and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. Cool!

Also yesterday morning, before leaving, we did a bottle dive in front of an old cannery and I found a couple of really cool 1/2 pint canning jars. These are the old type that used the hinged wire closures. My buddy found a prohibition era whiskey bottle that was cool too. The only down side is the bottle field starts at about 125 fsw and continues on down. I turned at 140, got really narced (and it was the anxious kind of narced too - I hate that) and had to spend about 20 minutes in deco with nothing to do but stare at mud! Oh well - it was fun.

Good luck on the swim Dennis - take no prisoners! ;)

Did someone mention Cozumel?!? This same group of us who dive the PUget Sound have a house rented, dive operator reserved, and airline tickets booked. Departure in: 72 days, 18 hours, 37 minutes! Yep, week before the US Thanksgiving!
Have a great week all!

Cheer's!

I'm preparing for my annual Gator Man race this Sunday so I swam 3 mile today in 96 min. The trouble is, that's 2 min slower than I swam it in the ocean last year. I hope the race give me the motivation to swim even faster.

Michela, don't think of it as slaving away on the house, think of it as an investment for your future!

I'm sorry to hear things aren't going so well with your mom. I pray for you all every day.

I also would love to meet you in Bonaire some time if you get the chance. But, I have a girlfriend that I go on a trip with once a year, also, and we have talked a little about Cozumel (I haven't been there in years, but we are looking for a cheap vacation), so maybe she and I could meet you and T in Cozumel some time in the next year or so??? We've been hearing that it's not so safe to travel in Mexico lately (but hoping that doesn't include Coz). What have you heard/experienced? Where do you normally stay when in Cozumel? Is it all inclusive? What kind of prices do you pay? I would love to set something up so you and T, Todd (or my friend Sandy) and I could meet and dive together!

TGIF everyone!
It's been a quiet week here. Hope everyone is doing well.

Dennis, hope you had fun at the reunion. I also never attended any of mine.

Tina, yes we moved in July 31st. A month already and nothing is unpacked except for bare kitchen necessities because we are doing work and we have a complete kitchen renovation planned for mid Sept so it will be awhile before we are really settled in. My mom is not good. Started another round of chemo and on cortisone for her fibrosis. nothing seems to be relieving her symptoms. emoticon
So great that you will be back in Bonaire. We never made it there yet but hope to one day. It would be a blast to meet you there. We really missed being in Coz this summer but we can't even think of a vacation with the house and my mom right now.

Hope you all have a great long weekend! We will be slaving away in the house.

Dennis, that sounds like a good time! I've never been to a high school reunion. I went to three different high schools because my dad was in the military. So, I never really made any friends and never cared about going to the reunions because of that. I hope you had a wonderful time!

TGIF!!!

Ron, good to hear you had a great b-day and even better that your son is doing well! I know that is a huge relief to all of you.

Tina, sorry about your back issues doll and really hoping that you can get some solution to it. It has to be so hard to live with that day in and day out.
No diving for me this season. It got 1 dive in May any that was it. There is just so much to do at home and can't even get in the mind frame to even think about diving, unless is was in Coz, then I would drop it all and head south if I could.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey all - Thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a great day! Spent the evening with my immediate family, including my son :), along with my closest dive buddies. Fifteen of us went to Red Robin and celebrated with a burgers and brew. Couple of cool gifts I recv'd include a 40cf deco bottle and a camelback hydration pack which I'll use it for road cycling which I've really gotten into these days - love it!
The boy is doing well, had his first day of PT today and his heart has been very stable since he got out of the hospital. I think he's on the mend!
In other new's, taking the DD to the pool tonight to get her new Back/Plate/Wing adjusted to her dry suit - yuck, she's going to get hot! Then we're heading to Hoodsport this weekend so she can do her advanced open water.
Mich, Kinch, Tina, and anyone else I may have missed; I know some of you are going through some issues and I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping all of you are enjoying these last days of summer!

Ron, emoticon !!!! I hope you are having a wonderful day, and that your son is doing well.

Michela, so glad to see you peek in. I'm glad you are doing ok, even though things are a bit stressful for you at this time. I continue to keep you, your mom, and your family (T too) in my prayers.

My mom is doing ok, but is starting to have abdominal pain occasionally. It's bad pain. But the first time it happened, she went back to the doctor and they did a scan of her abdomen, but couldn't find anything wrong. Now she just tries to tough through the pain. Wish I knew what was wrong!

I'm also having more issues with my back. It never did go back to it's "normal" pain level since the bad spasms I had the week after Christmas. My "normal" pain level now is quite a bit higher than it used to be, and I'm having more "bad" days then I ever had before. I have my annual physical in October or November, so I guess I will have to see if my doc will refer me to the surgeon again. Maybe this time they will be able to do something. I'm really tired of all the pain, and of all the pain meds I have been on since Christmas.

We haven't had much action on our site lately. I guess everyone is busy with summer things (hopefully fun ones!). Has anyone been diving lately? I am going (back permitting) with my best friend next week for a couple of local dives. I'm looking forward to getting wet!

Hey gang, sorry I have been MIA, it's just so difficult to spend time here lately.
Hope things will change soon but I am missing a lot of time at work lately and then have so much to do to catch up.

Tina thank you so much for posting the Aug challenge. I lost track of my situation but will weigh myself Friday and go from my last reported weight end July. I know I did not lose and may have gained a couple of pounds back.

Kinch, happy that Otakon was a blast and thanks for the belated b-day wishes. Did not even have time to celebrate this year but was not in the mood to either.

Ron hope you are having a fantastic b-day and also hope that your son is well and on the mend.

Hi, Folks,

My bad, shoulda had pictures by now.

Otakon was great, mostly because Chem and I had priority passes that allowed us to get in line first for the panels and workshops we wanted to see. I saw 2 great concerts and learned some great new things about sewing, Japanese films, famous actors in the anime world, etc.

More later.

Happy belated birthday MICH, hope things become 'normal' soon.
Congrats on the Fast Metabolism Diet Tina!
Ron, hope things are continuing well for your son.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Ok, I just realized we don't have an August weight challenge chart yet, so I created an August weight topic, but somehow it didn't go to the top of the list, but, it's there. At least I can keep track of my weight this month (and you all can, too). Michela must REALLY be busy! I also forgot to put 2013 in the topic title...but maybe Michela can put it in there when she stops in...I don't know how, and, I'm not a team leader, so I don't think I can do it anyway.

I hope everyone is doing well. Todd and I are doing awesome on our Fast Metabolism Diet. I've lost quite a bit...well, except for the last couple of days. I didn't stick to the diet because my son was in town yesterday and took me out to dinner, and then today I took my Mom to the County Fair and we ate every sinful thing under the sun. So, I am anticipating a huge jump when I weigh in tomorrow... emoticon so I guess I better get back to it!

Hello everyone!

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes Tina! emoticon

Ron, happy to hear your sons surgery was a success and praying for a speedy recovery for him.

Kinch can't wait to see pics of your costumes for this years Otakon event.

Life continues to be hectic here. We are moved into the house but not unpacked. All of our stuff is in the basement as we have work still to do and no use putting everything in the way. So we are living out of boxes and only unpacked the bare minimum for the kitchen.
Work started off busy so not sure when T & I will get things done. It's insane.

Sending big hugs to all!

Ron, thank God that your son has great docs! I said a prayer that he will continue to recover well and back home making the family happy again soon.

The Chem-Kinch household is in the final stages of costume and prop construction for Otakon which takes place this weekend. 2 and a half days of pretending to be somebody else, along with 30K of my best friends makes Halloween look wimpy.

In other news the center I work for finally has a new director, though he won't start until next year. He should be a great guy to work with since he's totally into Star Trek (although he likes Picard better than Kirk -- we'll have to have a talk about that).

Hope to get pictures of my fun time at Otakon before the month is out.

Happy bubbles!

Really?!? I'm the first to post this month? Whats up with that? I guess I can't be to critical as I've not been very active here either - so I thought I'd pop in and give you guys an update on my son.

My 23 yo son had open heart surgery to correct at prolapse mitral valve on Thursday, July 25. I'm really happy to report that the surgery was a complete success and they were able to repair the valve (the alternative is replace the valve with an artificial which would condemn him to life long prescription of blood thinners). The bad new's is all the post op complications he's suffered such as racing heart (up to 150 bpm) low blood pressure, and retaining more than 50 pounds of water weight. As of today tho, his BP is good, his heart rate is returning to normal, he's peeing like a race horse (thanks to a heavy dose of diuretics) and they're talking about him getting out of the hospital in a day or 2. Yes he's still in the hospital with today being day 12.

Anyway, that's what mine and Mary's focus has been the last couple weeks - just so very thankful the end is in sight.

Have a great week all!

Ron

Cheer's!

Hey, Gang,

Hope all is as well as it can be and a little bit better.

I've taken off the first part of this week to get my out of the office life together. So far, so good. I also read yesterday that some brainiacs did a study and found that people who have a financial reward for losing wt. lose up to 7 lbs more (yep 7 lbs... whatever).

The point being that I got the go ahead from my better half and I am going for a high $ amt. to be disclosed on Dec. 31st. That's my deadline to lose 10 inches.

I'm looking at this as an experiment: is $$$ really the ultimate motivator?

Tune in to see how it all works out and root for me! emoticon

Joke day!!!

The doctor said, 'Joe, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration.

You have a very rare condition, which causes your testicles to press on your spine and the pressure creates one hell of a headache.

The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles.'

Joe was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for. He had no choice but to go under the knife.

When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself.

As he walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a different person. He could make a new beginning and live a new life.

He saw a men's clothing store and thought, 'That's what I need... A new suit...'

He entered the shop and told the salesman, 'I'd like a new suit..'

The elderly tailor eye d him briefly and said, 'Let's see... Size 44 long.'

Joe laughed, 'That's right, how did you know?'

'Been in the business 60 years!' the tailor said.

Joe tried on the suit it fit perfectly.

As Joe admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, 'How about a new shirt?'

Joe thought for a moment and then said, 'Sure.'

The salesman eyed Joe and said, 'Let's see, 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck.'

Joe was surprised, 'That's right, how did you know?'

'Been in the business 60 years.'

Joe tried on the shirt and it fit perfectly.

Joe walked comfortably around the shop and the salesman asked, 'How about some new underwear?'

Joe thought for a moment and said, 'Sure.'

The salesman said, 'Let's see... Size 36.

Joe laughed, 'Ah ha! I got you! I've worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old.'

The salesman shook his head, 'You can't wear a size 34.

A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a headache.'

New suit - $400
New shirt - $36
New underwear - $6
Second Opinion – PRICELESS emoticon

Hey all, good to see all of your posts and hear all of your good new's and lament with you on the bad. Speaking of the bad - The next couple weeks are going to be really hard for my Son and our family as he is scheduled to undergo open heart surgery next Thursday, July 25th. He was diagnosed with a heart murmur at 18 and it his progresively gotten worse to the point surgery is required. His condition is called mitrel valve prolapse. So please, all of my SP friends, I'd appreciate a prayer for him!

Other new's. Diving has been good and often - I'll hit 200 before summers end. My daughter is scheduled to do her AOW in August and will be going with my dive group to Cozumel in November.

Have a great rest of the week!

Ron

Hello everyone!

Yes I am still alive and missing you guys. Hope you are all having a great summer so far.

Q8, great to see you back and I am relieved that I passed that test!

Tina, awesome on the diving and all that work around the house. Looks I will be doing that soon when we get in our house.

Kinch, no canasta sucks but happy you had a great time anyway.

Dennis, miss being on the fitness thread with you. Will have to drop by.

So not much new here other than life as I knew it is no longer and will never be so carefree again or for a long while.
We close on our house on the 24th and possession afternoon of the 26th. After that we have 4 days to work on it before we move in on the 31st. We will most likely be camping out in our own house for awhile before all is done. There is so much we want to do first and we are getting the whole kitchen redone and that will be most likely mid to end Sept.
We ended up with sellers from hell. The woman is a nutcase let me tell you. Can't wait to get the key and be done with her. Right now I am praying that she respects our occupancy day & time.

Wish I can get here more but I know the next few weeks will be next to impossible. Good news is we will be on vacation the next 2 weeks. So sad that Coz in not in the plans but can't have it all.
My mom is not doing well and is having a really hard time of it. That weights heavy on my heart on top of everything else I am stressing about these days.

Tina how is your mom doing?

Take care everyone and will try to pop in if I can before the move.

Good morning, divers! Hopefully you are enjoying your day at work, or, are out getting narced!

I went diving on Saturday with my friend. We did two one-hour dives in a quarry. It was not as clear as usual, only 30 feet of vis instead of the usual 60 feet. It was also very cold. At 35 feet it was 50 degrees F. Brrr.

Our diet is going well. We are starting our fourth week, and I have lost eight pounds, or a little more. Todd is about the same, which surprised me because he has so much more to lose. Oh well. It's a neat diet, because I am never hungry...in fact, I have a hard time eating everything I'm supposed to for some meals!

How is everyone else doing? Hey Kinch, are you off to Hollywood or something that we aren't hearing from you? And how about Ron? Are you diving so much that you don't have time for your buddies here? Dennis, it's really great to see you here and getting your updates. I could never do the swim thing like you. I can barely swim. I had a heck of a time getting my swim times in for my Dive Master rating. Q8, good to see you here when you are, too! Michela, I hope all is going well with your move into your new home. And I still remember your Mom and your family in my prayers. Let's see, who am I missing...we have so many that haven't been here in a while. Has anyone heard from Jen?

I am a person of infinite possibilities and dreams.

Thanks for the test. I usually can't find anything, but I found them all pretty quick.
By the way I'll be swimming in the Nationals this year. It's close and I can enter 3 races without having qualifying times. I'm doing the 1500 freestyle, the 50 free and the 50 breast, I'll give it everything I have, but I don't have high expectations, those guys are really fast.
