I went to my local Walmart yesterday and I did see the Nutrisystem D stuff by the diabetic things. They had shakes that were 160 calories each (I left those on the shelf!), and 4 packs of blueberry muffins, cinnamon buns, and chocolate chip cookies. I got some blueberry muffins. I looked for the red boxes to get the chocolate muffins but I didn't see them. This Walmart didn't have the 7 day packs out, either. When I go to another location - there are about 5 nearby - I'll check to see what else they have.

I saw that posted on the NS boards but no one had a picture. I'm glad you did! I've nearly run out of breakfasts because I flex the other meals more. Good to know I can get some muffins. I read there were shakes there, too, but they're more calories than the packets of shake mix NS sends. I'm going to check this out this weekend. Thanks for the pic!

Yup, sticking to it retry much 95% today eas my sisters birthday so I just had a light breakfast and then a small piece of chicken, green beans cooked in tomatoes, and sautéed peppers onions and mushrooms. Then I had a sliver of cake. I have all my NS meals planned and packed for tomorrow. As of today I was down 8 lbs. so far this has been fairly easy after struggling for many months.

Thanks everyone! Serious, you guys are already so helpful!

So far I am liking everything in my kit except the beans and rice - man oh man! My mom really liked that one though so go figure. I'm going to do 1-2 more kits through Walmart before I commit to buying a bigger order through NS or QVC.

My add in, as suggested, are clean fruits and veggies with a little cheese and yogurt. I do feel a little better that I'm eating some whole food each day. I might even be eating more veggies than when I was eating clean if that is possible. it surely seems that way.

I really like the portions and I have not felt hungry except once late Monday night and it passed after drinking a glass of Crystal Light Iced Tea. I think I am going to opt to continue through the weekend and just have one regular home cooked meal a weekend night. I feel like right now I need this structure, portion control, and eating schedule more than I need to eat regular food on the weekends. Anyone else going day to day versus just mon- fri?

Thanks again for all your help so far. I'm looking forward to spending more time with you all.

:)

ChunkyMonkey, just stick to clean add ins. When you flex using the NS guidelines but your own food you can eat clean. The food isn't any more preserved than canned foods, since it's a soft canning process. The results are worth it. Would I prefer my own homemade sauce and whole wheat pasta to the spaghetti with meat sauce? Definitely! BUT I would eat too much, even if I plated myself the appropriate amount. The pan is there.

If you guys decide to order from Nutrisystem, sparkmail someone on the team to give your email address and we can send you a buddy buck coupon code for $30 off your first order as long as you use the same email address you send us to set up your NS account.

Good luck to you and your mom!

We were eating clean before I started NS and It was hard. I don't find Nutrisystem's plan nearly as difficult and I feel GREAT when I stick to it. I'm going slow since I took the summer off for maintenance, but still down to 213 from 227. I'm back on 100% today. Keep up the good progress amigas! Enjoy the remainder of your summer as well.

Thanks everyone! Francesca, I'm willing to eat unclean to get over this hump that I am stuck on. Even though everything is processed I was impressed that when I put all my meals plus all the required fruit and veggies it still adds up to a pretty balanced diet - meeting requirements for fiber, calcium, and the sodium is not as bad as I thout it would ranging from 1500-2300. Not what I was expecting.

Best of success to you and your mom ChunkyMonkey. Nutrisystem is really quite the opposite of eating clean since all of the meals are processed foods. It does work though, if you follow the program to the T.

Hey ladies, I'm new to NS - trying it for the first time. I am getting married next October and Im having a hard time losing weight. My mom really wanted to try NS but wanted a buddy to do it with. I was hesitant because I prefer to eat clean more but I wanted to support her and thought it might be interesting. So we purchased the kits at Walmart but we are going to buy 2 and do them back to back. I don't want to take weekends off since that is one of my biggest issues. if things go well we will continue and may buy from NS to get more options. I work out regularly so that is not an issue for me. I would like to lose 40 lbs in the next 4-5 months prior to dress shopping. Overall I would like to lose about 100 lbs and then when I get to that point I will set a smaller goal.

How was everyone's weekend? And how has today been?

I splurged this weekend as usual and gained .8 lbs. Could have been worse I suppose. I've been doing well today. Lots of water intake. I had a chewy chocolate chip granola bar for breakfast and haven't had lunch yet. I'm thinking maybe a trail mix bar or chicken noodle soup. I'm cooking a porkchop casserole for the family tonight, probably chicken parmesan pasta for me.

Oh, no, Francesca! Try to watch food intake closely so the gain won't be too bad. I have back issues and wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Good news ladies, I just came from Walmart with 4 boxes of the NS 5 day kit. Two for me and two for my husband. Bough them with the $5 off coupon each. So ready to challenge myself for the next two weeks.

@FRANCESCANAZ You are doing fantastic! Delaying the shipment was a good idea - it will also give you a chance to adjust to your new eating habits.

I finally weighed in and have gained a pound. I did have a few leftovers that I worked into the Nutrisystem diet last week 3 glasses of wine which I substituted for fruit, 4 portions of Green Beans Almondine and some green leaf lettuce which was a vegetable with Dinner, 4 portions of cheese and crackers as snacks, some pecans eatten while shelling a large bowl of pecans, and 8 small Gheridelli choclates - the squares with the white chocolate Easter Bunnnies which I substituted for Dessert (2 each evening for 4 days) - all accounted for in the tracker -- must have been the green beans and lettuce HaHa! I did not eat out Friday Night but had a Nutrisystem meal and was very good over the weekend.

This week I will be extremely vigillant and we will see what happens next Monday. I still feel really great!

Great job on sending all that food out of the house Susan! emoticon I just postponed my 3rd NS shipment for a month, cuz I have so much left over. Still, I am losing weight! The program is really good! I've gone from 227 to 218 since March first!!!!! The NS plan is good! I think I am really going to succeed this time. emoticon

Easter was tough and I have certainly paid the price this week but I am hanging in there.

Some things I did that worked were that I reduced the amount of cooking by purchasing the Ham, turkey, sweet potato souffle, green beans almondine, artichoke dip, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy and cheese cake sampler from the Honey Baked Ham store and Dinner rolls from a local bakery. All I made was my Mother's raisin cider sauce for the ham, a large bowl of ambrosia, deviled eggs and an eclair cake for my neice's sister who had a birthday the week before and is allergic to nuts ( I sent it home with her dish and all).

The other thing I did that worked was having a plan and doing some preparation for getting the leftovers out of my house. My guest list represented three households, I purchase square alluminum cake pans with lids (4 per household - meats, hot sides, cold sides, dessert), small glad containers ( 3 per Household - gravy, sauce, dip, deviled eggs), ziplock bags (crackers), plastic bags from the bakery (1 per household) - rolls, crackes) and some large festive easter gift bags (2 per Household - one for hot one for cold) to use as to go bags and I asked my family to pack up the left overs and take them home which they happily did - I even sent the remaining sticks of butter and carton of cream home with my nephew. I froze the ham bone for beans when we start barbequeing. So there were no remaining temptations in my fridge, only half a bottle of a very good wine and some green beans and mashed potatoes - I disposed of the mashed potatoes and had the green beans and wine with dinner this week, counting the wine as a fruit.

What I did that did not work was simply eating out too much with family and friends and and not watching my portions when eating out and on Easter Day. I also missed tracking my food for an entire day and a couple of meals here and there but I am back on track and hoping to see some the scale move down next weigh in.

I had doubled my Easter Dinner budget in anticipation but the final tally was less than 20% more than the cost of doing everything my self from scratch and the meal was really good.
This really really helped

I gotta say, I'm not doin my 30 every day. I have been doing 90 minutes three times a week in the pool. I wonder if this is going to make me lose slower?

I mowed my yard for the first time in almost 20 years! Not the whole thing but most of it - the front and side yards - it started getting dark so I will do the back tomorrow. (My back yard is really small - large front yard with a slope!) I took a while - used an my old electric mower. (Mr Pugsley is in shock!)

Outstanding FRANCESCANAZ!
You are doing fantastic and I hope your son's birthday was a happy one and you all had a grest time.

Being able to enjoy family celebrations on the weekends without "breaking" my diet is one of the things I love about the week end off aspect of this program. My nephew's 4th anniversary was last weekend and as you say - cake! or in this case cannoli and I enjoyed one modest portion without a second thought (or seconds!) - I did put it in the tracker but that was it.

The weekends are a time to practice new lifetime eating habits - being mindful of what I eat - eating what I really want in satisfying portions and enjoying it fully. Feeling satisfied not stuffed or hungry at the end of a meal is wonderful and while I still miss the mark sometimes I am getting better at it. Looking back I can see that I did consistently overeat on the weekends for the first 5 weeks. SInce then, with one exception involving mexican food -- which I dearly love, my calorie/fat/carb ranges have been the same on the weekends as the weekdays.

I have noticed that my sweet and fat meters have been dialed back - restaurant and prepared deserts don't taste that great to me now - they taste too sweet and greasy reather than yummy and creamy. Now I appreciate a desert with a more intense or complex flavor profile - the dominant flavor being a fruit, citrus, chocolate, coffee, spicy, vanilla flavor - instead of just sweet, that is creamy, tender, flakey or crisp without being greasy.

Now if I can only figure out the mexican food thing...

Putting so much online is a very legitimate concern. I have used Mint for more than 3 years and so far so good --- no issues with fraud and their privacy policy is acceptable.

Thanks for all the info Susan. That helps me a lot. You are right, of course, I must not get discouraged. I did decide to keep with the NS program for another month at least after this March. It has been very convenient and my sugar numbers have been steadily dropping so I am very happy about that. Tomorrow is my three week weigh in.
I love the idea of MINT. I am kind of paranoid though about putting all my finances out there on the web. I hear so much about identity theft lately emoticon
Thanks again Susan. Hope everyone else here is doing well also! emoticon

Ladies I think we are all doing great!

After reading FRANCESCANAZ comments about the cost of Nutrisystem. I decided to look back at my food and dining expenses and compare. I track my expenses and budget on MINT (www.mint.com) so it is easy for me to do this type of comparison. In recent years I have done most of the holiday entertaining in my family and I tried to exclude holiday food shopping and entertaining like the Sunday night Downton Abbey Tea Parties - a couple of which ended on a less than festive note this season (the deaths of Sybil and Matthew). Also, I am not always rigorous about seperating out non-food purchases at the grocery store - dog food, laundry detergent, vitamins etc. so the actual values are a bit higher than what I truly spend on food but that is true of both the Nutrisystem and Before Nutrisystem estimates.

My food expenses are actually less on Nutrisystem. On the QVC weekends off program each 4 week shipment of Nutrisystem foods cost about $175 a month, my grocery bill is about $115 per month and my restaurant bills are about $10.00 per month, so I am spending about $300 a month on Nutrisystem that is less than my average food & restaurant expenses for a month which ran about $400.

Everyone's expenses will be different based on their situation. I live alone and before Nutrisystem tended to eat at a drive through for Breakfast or a Snack (the McDonalds Happy Hour was often the highlight of my day) and Lunch during the work week and a meal at a real restaurant once sometimes twice on the weekends. I no longer eat out by myself and I do not miss it - my restaurant expenses are minimal - the occassional drink or snack when out and about on the weekends or evenings.

I am a little ashamed to admit this but I used to throw food out almost every week - mainly beautiful fresh produce I had purchased with the best of intentions but had allowed to spoil in the vegetable bin or fruit bowl, in favor of an Egg McMuffin or the like. Since starting Nutrisystem I am proud to say I have not let any fresh produce go to waste.

BTW - If you have not tried it I highly recommend MINT (www.mint.com) for budgeting and expense tracking. You can connect directly to your bank account, credit cards, loan accounts, and investment accounts so the transactions show up in MINT without you having to enter them. It is dead easy to set up and seeing everything in one place really helps you see where you can cut back. They also have a section where you can set and track goals for things like paying off debt or saving.

@MAUIGIRL61 Thank you for your kind words, they mean a lot to me. I appreciate the advice you gave me regarding excercise and the excercise bike. I find inspiration in your posts as well -- you inspired me to get out the health rider!

@FRANCESCANAZ I began at 206lbs. My plan was to get down to 150 lbs by July 4th and that is the goal on my tracker. After reaching 150, I planned to take 6 to 9 months to reach my ideal weight somewhere between 120 and 110 lbs. These goals were probably not all that realistic for me but I needed a target. I have to accept that a weight loss of even 1 lb a week or even every other week is something to celebrate and that this is really about regaining my health not just losing weight. on the scale.

Please don't be discouraged. It sounds like you are doing great.

Congratulations!!! emoticon You have been, and continue to be an inspiration to me. What encourages me the most is your never-give-up attitude! So many people say they will stick with something so long as they lose a certain amount of weight in a certain amount of time, but you have continually stated that you are going to keep going no matter what.......and that is inspiring to me. Being someone who can always come up with an excuse to stop, I have enjoyed everything you have written about your journey. So thanks so much!

That said, I've been chugging right along too! I've released 17 pounds in 7 weeks, and I too see changes. I recognize that I've lost weight, and see it a bit in the mirror, but not to the extent that you do. I know I feel lighter on my feet, and I am able to exercise at an intensity that I couldn't (or wouldn't!) 7 weeks ago. Like you, I've suffered with acid reflux, and am happy to report that all of those symptoms seem to be fading away. I was told from the beginning that acid reflux was weight related, and it appears it's true!

Again, congratulations on your weight loss! You have so much to be proud of!!!! emoticon

It's Friday! Today I weighed in at 221. That's a 6 pound loss in 14 days. Can I be so bold as to ask you Susan, how much your starting weight was? Please ignore the question if you prefer. I am wondering if because I am starting very heavy I can expect to lose more than 10 pound a month for the first few months. I'd love to be under 200 by summer. emoticon

My husband commented last night that it is obvious in the way I move that my health is improving...and it's only been 2 weeks! I do feel like I can move easier. My blood preassure & diabetes readings are still high, but I am not taking meds. I see that I am consuming a lot more sodium on this plan. emoticon
I still don't know if I will continue after March...it depends on my progress. The cost is high, but my health is important. I'm 54.

January 15 was my first day on the Nutrisystem Weekends Off Program and today is my two month anniversary. I have lost 15 lbs. The program I am subscribed two lasts 5 months so I have 3 months left on this program.

My goal was to lose 56 lbs by July 4th and then another 40 lbs in the following 6 to 9 months. My initial goal of losing 56 lbs by July 4th is proving to be a bit unrealistic and will probably take about 8 months instead of 5-1/2 months but I am going to stay the course and just be happy that I am losing weight. I am very pleased with this program, I feel better, I look better and I am losing weight.

I promised to post the positive changes I've experienced just with the loss of 15 lbs and have done so below. I would be interested to know what positive changes the rest of you have experienced on this journey.

Improved Health
Like many women my age (58) I suffer from gastric reflux and urinary urgency - both these things have improved to an astonishing degree - virtually gone. I was also starting to have breathing difficulties - my Dr was concerned that I was developing asthma or that I would need to have my tonsils and or adenoids removed and had prescribed a rescue inhaler. Those symptoms are completely gone - I now think these symptoms were actually a product of gastric reflux as the constriction was in my throat. My stamina has improved and I walk more without even thinking about it - no more circling to find a closer parking spot or leaning on the shopping cart. I am sleeping better.

Improved Appearance
There have been some positive changes in my appearance. My skin has improved dramatically, my eyes are clearer - my eyes are very dry and tend to redness, and I have been losing less hair. I look like I have lost more weight than I actually have. Most of my weight loss has been in my midsection. I have a defined waist again - larger than it should be but the curve though my midsection is now in the right direction.

More Productive
Eating on a schedule helps give more structure to my day and keeps me ontrack in other ways. I have been more productive at work and I spend more time doing things I want to do at home. I am amazed at how much time I used to spend on shopping and meal prep. I only shop once a week now and very simple Fresh, Frozen & Canned Fruits & Vegetables, Almond Milk, Greek Yogurt, Fat Free Cheese, Nature's Bounty Optimal Solutions Protein & Vitamin Shake, maybe a Salad Dressing or some Coffee or Tea and Done - in and out in 20 minutes and about $35 with one regular shopping bag and a freezer bag (no more plastic bags here in Austin.)

I highly recommend the Nature's Bounty Optimal Solutions line especially the Protein & Vitamin Shakes in either Chocolate or Vanilla and the regular Nature's Bounty Calcium supplement - available at Target, CVS (often on sale) and Walgreens or Amazon. Another product I like are the Bolthouse Farms Yogurt line of salad dressings, usually found in the produce section. More often than not I make my own salad dressing - always have - but the Bolthouse and Newman's Own (low fat) ones are really good and have a good nutrition profile.

I did not get any shakes with my QVC shipment...maybe next month. Thanks for the info. I am doing well. I love having weekends to cook for family and enjoy. SP keeps me on track since I track all my intake every day. I have lost 4 pounds the first week and 2 inches off my waist! emoticon

Nutrisystem Shakes are a new item and the five month long QVC Weekends Off program I am subscribed to included them as a bonus on the first three shipments. The first shipment came with a blender cup (wire ball type) and a box containing 7 packets of Vanilla shake mix. The second shipment was Chocolate and I received the third shipment last week with Strawberry shakes as the bonus.

The directions say to fill the blender cup with 3/4 cup (6 oz) water and 1 cup (8oz) ice, add shake mix and shake to blend. I did try that o4 oz nce but I was not very satisfied with the results - you end up with a shake with large chunks of ice in it. When I use the blender cup my favorite way to make these shakes is to fill it with 1 cup (8oz) unsweetened almond milk, the shake mix and for Chocolate and Vanilla 1 heaping teaspoon of instant coffee (Community Dark Roast) .

I tried the strawberry shake this morning and made it in the Vitamix with 3/4 cup (6oz) Unsweetened Almond Milk and 8 oz ice. It made a lovely thick frothy frozen milk shake but it took it first turned to a sorbet like consistency and I had to blend it on high using the blending stick to push the ice into the blades for over a minute to get it to a shake like consistency. Nutritional information 133 Calories 9 gm Carbohydrate 4gm Fat 16 gm protein.

The flavour is good but I wish the strawberry flavour were a bit more pronounced. For my taste there is too much ice in the recipe and I like the extra creaminess achieved by using almond milk. Next time I will try 6 oz almond milk and 4 oz frozen strawberries.

Just a note on measuring - I use my food scale to measure the ingredients - just place the blender vessel on the scale, zero it out, add the almond milk until the weight equals 6 oz, zero it out again, and add ice until it reaches 8oz or the desired weight. Much quicker and less mess than measuring cups.
