I would have to say more than one of the above. I will go on Sparkpeople and just start reading articles and stuff to earn points. Then if I am starting to get lazy, I'll start playing a Wii dance game to see if it helps make me want to stay up and do things. :)

I also tend to read motivating blgs and posts on Sparkpeople. But I like your way, SurlyGirl, getting up and moving seems like it would be the ultimate motivator!

I am just the opposite. For me, reading or Sparking on the computer make me feel lazy and sluggish. I need to get up and "Just Do It" I need people and music and movement. I put on my gym clothes and promise myself that I can stop after 10 minutes if I'm still feeling unmotivated - that has NEVER happened though.

I read inspirational quotes/passages
I listen to motivational music
I look at inspiring images
I get a pep talk from a friend/family member

I like the Mini Challenge idea as well. I also think that if it's a daily challenge we could then "add on" each day. So if Day 1 is Drink 64+ oz of water and Day 2 is get 30 Fitness minutes - then Day 2 is drinking water and fitness minutes and so on - or we could add on 1x a week so it's not overwhelming for anyone who is new.

Accountability is a good one too.

I think if we do those 2 things, we should see weight loss with or without a weight loss challenge.

Personally, I'd prefer a daily mini challenge. I could possibly do the accountability one, but I don't think I like the idea of the Biggest Loser one unless we make it a lot more realistic than the tv show. The way they lose weight isn't really healthy. Just a thought.

emoticon What kind of challenge would you participate in as a team.

1. A biggest loser challenge, modeled after the tv show with two teams to run a total of 6 weeks

2. A Accountability Challenge

3. Daily Mini Challenges

4. All of the above... to be rolled out going forward..

It depends, if I am starving I will only be able to get a low impact workout and then be even hungrier when finished. If I am a little hungry and just not ready to eat yet, I normally don’t feel hungry afterwards

I do mine with my toes on the top of a BOSU and my elbows on a Stability Ball - for 2 minutes.
Side Planks w/Feet on Stab Ball for 1 minute each side. There are others if anyone is interested.

I take the 50 / 50 approach. I do my best to eat as well as possible and get in some intense exercise, but I allow myself a few splurges here and there.

I think it is a good idea in schools especially at the youngest ages. I think the school should be able to do more to find ways for kids to like exercise. To introduce more things. I never found some form of exercise I liked in school so I hated PE because we always did things I hated. Maybe more variety would be the answer.

I'm with STHAX10! There are way to many overweight kids and making PE optional communicates that fitness and good health aren't important enough to be a priority. And, when all is said and done, what do we have if we don't have our health?

I never liked ST till recently. I "accidentally" tried the ST circuit at the gym and now I'm really enjoying the challenge.

If you haven't started strength training yet, what's holding you back?

I'm afraid of injuring myself
I don't want to make a fool of myself in the weight room
I lack access to strength training equipment
I don't want to get bulky muscles
I'd rather spend my limited time burning more calories with cardio exercise
Strength training is overwhelming and I don't know where to start
Other
Not applicable-- I already incorporate strength training into my routine

FOR ME......I'd rather spend my limited time burning more calories with cardio exercise

No, instead, I have assembled my own home gym. Home gym system, inversion table, stability balls, yoga mats, hand weights and resistance bands in my office. I can play videos on my computer monitor to add to my focus. I have a mountain bike instead of a stationary. No excuses for me to not go to the gym emoticon

Not really…I don’t have too much trouble in this area. I am normally in range, every once in a while I am above my daily level.

Which meal typically makes up the bulk of your calories for the day?

Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Snack(s)
None of these-- I tend to eat the same amount of calories at every meal

I would have to say my dinner meal emoticon
