Congrats, Dawn, on your better emoticon emoticon emoticon , feeling better overall, and the emoticon emoticon emoticon !

Doesn't it feel great?!

Quick update: Since I last posted we have moved twice. From West Yellowstone to Butte, MT. And as of yesterday afternoon we are now in Missoula, MT. I need to look up health food stores. It's so GREAT to be back in civilization! I'm guessing I'm not a complete outback country girl... LOL

I stayed mostly on plan for the first part of the week, but I have not been eating as well as I want for the last 2 days, so my weight is only down 1 pound this week instead of my goal of 2. Still, 1 is moving in the right direction! It seemed like my running yesterday went better than it has been because of the few pounds I have lost.

Ready to start a another week of moving the scale down!

Good job on the oatmeal, Susy! That's the easy part for me. I really like oatmeal, and I'm one of those people who is actually hungry 1st thing in the morning.

It's all about making changes over time - moving toward better eating. Seems like every time I do quickstart, even if I don't follow it perfectly (which I never do), some of the changes seem to "stick" and become healthy new habits.

The oatmeal was already one for me. Now, I think the apples are going to stick this time!

Exercise is still going well. I was really tired yesterday for some reason, but instead of forgetting my workout, I just made it much shorter.

Planning to follow QS eating very closely tomorrow plus I have a good workout planned, so hopefully the scale will be moving down another pound by Thurs.

Oh, Dawn! I am jealous of your daily apple eating consistency!

Once we leave this tiny little tourist town and get back to civilization, I am going to buy me some apples and I'll start eating one daily!

Just to clarify: I -had- been eating an apple daily, but fell off the wagon. BUT... as I've mentioned, I've been doing SUPER-GREAT with my daily oatmeal, walnuts, banana breakfast!

CONGRATS on your 2 lb loss!

I've felt good all week and done well exercising. I've been about half-following QS eating, and the scale has stayed steady. Today looks like I'll be 100% on plan and looking for the scale to drop tomorrow.

Love those oatmeal breakfasts! :)

Anyway, good going, Dawn!

I just finished my oatmeal, walnut, cinnamon breakfast (sweetened with a small banana).

I am just so happy to be keeping this new habit going!

Through the weekend, I was eating some QS foods but not really trying to follow the plan. This was on purpose - I'm trying to stay with this longer and lose about 2 pounds a week rather than make a big jump down/quit/then gain it back. So, I have not lost any more yet, but the next few days I'm planning to pretty much follow the plan. Hopefully, I'll be down 2 more by Friday...

Side note: Even on days I'm not really following the plan, I've been trying to eat an apple a day. So for, I've managed to do that every day. Yeah!

Sad to have to update my ticker and weight to get in line with my "real" weight. When I was using this site a while back, I was starting at 170. My weight now is over that, but at least it's down 2 already from a few days ago, which is what I used for my start weight.

My goal is to lose about 2 pounds a week, which would put me at 160 around the time I want to do my next 1/2 marathon. I'm motivating myself by not signing up for the race until I'm back to 170, so I have to get there before the race fills up!

I know I can do it if I follow QuickStart!

Susy, Thanks for the Spark goodie, and good job on those veggies! I like sugar snap peas but don't usually think to buy them. I've been eating my share of red pepper, too!

This morning (Fri) I'm down another pound (total 2 for the week). I've been following QS plus eating (drinking!) my smoothie plus usually not eating on plan exactly for dinner but still trying to make fairly good choices there. I'm happy with how I feel and how the scale is moving this week, so I'm going to try to continue my "mostly QS diet."

I started QS yesterday, but I planned to add a smoothie since it is geared toward a time of low activity and I had water aerobics to teach. I ate as planned except for a slip-up of a couple of monster cookies (which are not quite on the plan!). I probably ended up eating around 2000 calories, and still this morning I was down 1 pound. It's amazing how those QS start foods bump up your metabolism and flush out some extra water.

I'm going to see how QS + smoothie works for me. Lately, I have been using smoothies as a healthy meal and find it's the easiest way for me to get in a big serving of spinach. Most days I do a hard hour of working out, so I think that will balance out for me. If I don't see the usual QS results, I can always cut the smoothie.

On plan so far today - ready to start my workout followed by smoothie :)

Well, Dawn... as for me, all I've gotten "under control" is my breakfast!

But with that said---I also have increased my veggie intake each day.

Am I still losing weight? No.

But I am happy with myself to be (1) eating breakfast daily, and (2) adding additional veggies into my food choices.

I am also very aware of when I eat starch-type foods: i.e., potatoes or rice. I recognize that if it's at lunchtime, I'm more likely to burn it off than if I have either of those two items at supper.

So basically, it's Dr. Goglia's principles that I am keeping in mind--instead of the exact nutritional plan.

Does this help you any?

I'd love to see you do at least a few days of the QS (and track it)! I'm here to support y-o-u!

I had that exact thought this morning! We don't have a great farmer's market where I live, but this time of year I can get at least a few fresh, local items.

I'm still just thinking. I don't want to start unless I'm sure. I don't want to start QS and then quit after just a day or two.

I just thought of something... If you did the QS soon, you'll still have the opportunity of FRESH summer fruits and veggies!

Good job Susy! I just read through your posts here, and it was fun. I haven't been on this site (Sparkpeople) in a long time, but in the last year, I've gained about 10 pounds because of not eating as well as I have in the past. I've thought of trying to get back on track with quickstart. Reading this has pushed me in that direction.

I'll think about it...

STILL eating oatmeal every morning! (With the walnuts and banana and cinnamon)

I have to admit: I've always said I hated oatmeal... then I said I could tolerate steel cut oatmeal on the day that it was cooked (leftovers go in the fridge and cold leftover oatmeal is just AWFUL)!

But I'm on a roll since about mid-June with daily oatmeal breakfasts!

Pretty proud of myself!

Still eating my oatmeal almost daily!

And... remember when I couldn't eat but half an apple as Meal 2?

I'm now eating the whole apple! (They're small though.)

So maybe I'm not doing the entire nutrition plan as Dr. Goglia lays out, but I can say that I've gotten my morning meal(s) under control---and that's a START!

Okay, so I did NOT get back on the wagon.

But here are a few observations:

emoticon Despite it being a full two weeks off the eating plan, I weigh 165.0. (NOT BAD!) My original start weight was 166.4, and my lowest weight was 164.2. That was from doing the eating plan 85% for about five days.

emoticon I have sporadically kept eating my oatmeal breakfast. That's good because... I don't usually eat ANY breakfast---and definitely NOT oatmeal!

Yes, I have gotten off track.

If I figure out WHY then maybe I can get BACK on track...

1. I don't like to eat anything for the first couple of hours I'm awake.
2. Immediately after eating breakfast, it seems like it's already time to eat Meal 2 (even though it's just an apple). And THEN it's time to eat Meal 3 right after that!
3. I don't want to eat *all* those veggies at lunch or dinner.

Yikes! No wonder I'm falling off the wagon!

But... to be fair, I -do- feel better overall when I eat like the plan requires. And my stomach (gut) DOES shrink!

What to do... What to do...

Now why did I -not- write my beginning weight last week when I started this?!

Here's what I -have- tracked (weight-wise):

6/24: 164.2
6/23: 164.2
6/21: 164.2
6/20: 164.6
6/17: -???- ...editing... I must have weighed 165.4 when I started.
6/04: 166.4

But I started on 6/17 and I don't see where I entered my starting weight anywhere! Argghh!

Well, I maintain that I'm feeling better and my fat rolls at my waist have slimmed down.

I did go back to drinking coffee first thing in the morning...

Also, I'm slipping on my drinking LOTS of water...

Gotta get back to business!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
P.S. See my post on 6/20. I said that I had lost 0.8. Since I recorded my weight on 6/20, all I did was add 0.8 back to that recorded weight and came up with a starting weight on 6/17 of 165.4.
...s..i..g..h... It would have been so much easier had I written it down! LOL

Morning of Day 4:

Yay! I've lost 0.8 of a pound. Maybe not much to many, but considering that I really didn't have a lot of water weight to lose--plus this is ONLY the start of Day 4--I feel really successful! Oh, and the fact that mentally I'm still "into" doing this!

Call me crazy, but it looks like my 'love handles' are not so pronounced today.

Tomorrow I'm going out to lunch and shopping with a girlfriend. We "usually" have a salad and then split a decadent chocolate dessert. That's going to be a challenge, but... I'll eat my QS breakfast and Meal 2 beforehand.

Exercise for me has been sporadic this week. I'm not a major player when it comes to exercise anyway. Yesterday I bounced on my rebounder for 15 minutes, and took two 10-minute walks. But, I have several Jillian Michael exercise dvds loaded, and I like to do her 5-minute warm-ups. Today I went to a free exercise class at Humana. It was a Kinect Your Shape video that only lasted 13 minutes, but it was fun to do with other people, and it did have me huffing and puffing!

The morning of Day 3:

On target all the way up to dinner last night... and then went out to eat with the family. No, I didn't order the right foods. But I'm not going to beat myself up. I'm going to just go back to the program today and do better.

I -am- feeling better overall! Probably the consistently healthier choices, plus eating regularly. It's funny how frequently we just eat according to how we FEEL.

Oh, and I did turn down ice cream after dinner last night. Yay for me!

One thing I want to take note of: I've gone off coffee, and have had caffeine withdrawals; i.e., headaches, low energy. But I know this will pass. In place of coffee, I've been having hot dandelion tea.

And I'm working on consistent, short bouts of exercise. Another Yay for me!!! I even got my rebounder out! That hasn't seen the light of day for.... um, way too long.

Yep, I'm trying the QuickStart again! I need to!!!

Had my annual doctor visit, complete with lipid panel last week. The numbers were poor. This is the first time I've ever had my fasting glucose out of range. (And considering that I had a maternal grandmother, and have a mother plus two sisters who are diabetic, I NEED to do something to put me back in healthy ranges.) My cholesterol was also poor--granted, it's always been high, but this time my LDL was way higher.

And then there's my weight... (enough said)

I'm not UNhappy to be going back to a healthier eating pattern. I felt tremendously better when I followed the TUTH way in the past. What I do find is that I don't enjoy eating so much. Even though the average calorie count during the QS is about 1,300-1,400 calories, I just don't want to eat.

With all that said, today is actually Day 2 for me! I ate "on target" yesterday minus two small diversions. And, as my doctor suggested, I took a 10-minute walk after each of my three main meals (to bring my insulin levels down).

All in all, I'm not fighting this; I'm actually looking forward to feeling good again!
