There is a DVD called Gentle Fitness,by Katherine MacRae, that is great for people with physical impairment. The workout goes for 120 minutes, and I just break it down into four workouts. It saved me. There isn't any aerobic, and only seven minutes of standing leg work. The rest is sitting. Google it and see.

I know what you are going through too. There are some good DVDs for exercises in a chair. Youtube has quite a few videos and some of them are made by Sparkpeople. Some of them are yogi, using bands, stretching, etc. Anne Burrell has several DVDs that you can find on Amazon. Peggy Cappy has two yoga dvds named something like Yoga for the Rest of Us also at Amazon. One of Cappy's has some standing exercises and the other is all on your back or side. I can do most of them except the child's pose where you get on your knees. You may find something that you like doing when you don't make it to the pool.

There is a team on Sparkpeople for Chair exercisers that you may want to check out. They are very encouraging and have some good ideas.

I hope you get to feeling better. I know what you are going through because I pain gets to be so bad that I have to walk with my cane from time to time.

Good for you Campbell!
I am two months recovery from hip surgery and still using a cane to walk with. I still get pretty tired after one block. I will be so glad when my gait is better. This week I have been finding that my knee on the opposite side is having some struggles. Always something! And my weight is not making any sense to me at all because I can see changes in my body size happening.
Enjoy the water - that is usually less stressful on the joints.

Another exercise to try is pole walking.

My life tomorrow will be the result of my attitudes and the choices I make today.

Sorry to hear you're dealing with this. It's great that you joined the swimming class, I hope it will be fun!

Keep it simple.

Hello,
This is really a challenge for me to try to lose weight and not being able to walk to do so. The reason being is after I engage in any type of exercise the very next day my knee joints are very tender and painful. I was not like that before. I injured in knee at work in November 2011 and had surgery on it March 2012 so it. Now I am struggling just to be able to simply walk everyday. I have decided to cut no exercise because it irritates my joints. I will be enrolling the hydro fit swimming class that will take the stress off my joint. Can't wait. emoticon
