I was getting upset with myself for not doing my exercise when I got home, then realized that by forgetting something on one end of the store I was getting a great workout by going to and fro. emoticon

Cut out Wheat and Gluten for almost 2 weeks now and didn't have any flare-up since. emoticon
Well, that was until I ate that stupid piece of bread... emoticon (had to eat it, otherwise my client would have been mad, sigh) Not even 4 hours later, my ankle was painfully swollen and I have those cold-sore-like blisters on my fingertips.
But the good news is, that my ankle felt much better today and for the first time in years, I was able to run for about 10 minutes (until I got a cramp). emoticon
Overall a good day!

Well, I haven't been good at going out for walks lately. But I do try to move around as much as possible every day. It is surprising how many steps I can take just by doing the errands. Walking through the grocery aisles takes a lot of steps!

Mary Beth, you are right even housework is good. Sometimes I just get upset with myself for not following a routine no matter what. It is silly and unhealthy to be that way. My only walking buddy would be a young man of 52 with a very bad heart problem. I would be walking one step to his fifteen if we tried to walk together now. Such is life. Finally!!! I feel better, and although I'm not 100%, I can do something around the house and garden. Still have my guys do the heavy lifting though. Was even able to train for a little this week: half a session, then 3/4 of the class, which is better than nothing. Feels good!

I'm with you there Linda. I do the same thing. That's when a walking buddy comes in handy - no excuse when you make plans to meet at a certain time to do a walk. My buddy and I go through spurts - we get busy and wrapped up in other things but after a while when we notice that we have not dropped any weight, then we get back into the routine again.

My philosophy is to keep on moving - if no time for a walk, then exercise in whatever way we can throughout the day. Even stretches can do a world of good!

Threw out my back last Saturday and was unable to do much of anything. For 24+ hours I am able to walk without a cane and no pain pills either! Things are looking up from here. Can't wait to get back to my normal exercise.
Will play in a duet with my son in church tomorrow: violin & guitar.

Went to my Rheumatologist last week. Besides my labwork - which was fine - she asked me to slow down even more than I already have in the past few years... sigh. Well, let's see!
My right shoulder decided to not cooperate today, so I did most of my work with my left arm. I've been doing that for years, so it just is some extra exercise for my brain as far as accuracy and coordination goes. Since I have to take my son along to work, I treated him to some bowling with his friend, who lived kinda on the way. And just for the fun of it, I was bowling with my left arm. The girl was also left-handed and quite awkward in her movements, so she enjoyed, that she beat me by a point in the first of 3 rounds. I was surprised how fast we can adapt! By the end of the 3rd game I doubled my points!
ok, ok! we had the bumpers up (usually I bowl a similar number right-handed without any bumpers. But we had fun all the same, and that's what counts!

Hi ClaraL., Welcome here!
It seems you have been reading my diary or something when I was that age, and my problems seemed to manifest themselves quite clear and painful. The (temporary) loss of wht you love and now am rarely able to do is all to familiar. It takes time to slow down and pick your priorities and your new bouindaries. After 10 years I am at a point where I try to see the good things on a rainy and gloomy day. I can't even remember the last time I was pain free for even half a day...
My work is very physical: In-home maintenance, landscaping and teaching Karate to 3-6yr olds (among other things). And often times I cry at night, because I can't afford to call in sick, and I don't want to let my friends/clients down either. They need me as much as I need them. But by calling it quits after dinner and putting my legs up, together with a good night sleep So far I didn't have to call in at all this year. I made my aching body move. slow and gingerly at first, always to the limit of where discomfort begins. And I have been granted sufficient health to perform what was REALLY important that day. I don't care if all I do is plop on the couch after work. I learned to delegate my chores onto my family in parts, and they are nice enough not holding a messy house against me for a few days.
Long story short: count your blessings, for whatever short time you are able to do what you like and need to.
My (much older) friend and I are joking at times, what a blessing it is to learn to pace yourself appropriately at a (rather) younger age. This gives us the opportunity to age gracefully and withouta grumpy attitude...

Good for you!
I worked a full shift today and sure was busy. My pedometer tells me I walked almost 11,000 steps today - WOW!! No wonder my feet are hurting.

Our bathroom project is finally coming to an end! It looks like a Million Bucks! We can already take showers and use the toilet, just the sink decided to continue leaking...

My son is finally out of school and my client cancelled work for today. SO we took the opportunity to catch up with the garden, before we enjoyed 3 rounds of bowling where we met our old friend from last year again. I was surprised that I was even able to hold the ball, after my shoulder took a break for the last 2 days. So the first game was a mere house number, by the second game I seemed to find my balance again and the 3rd one was not my best either, but better than before.

So you see, not that I really have a choice but being even more active than before.

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce myself.
I am 31 and have been suffering from an inflamed knee joint for over 2 years now, and for a while both of my elbows have also been affected. The doctors don't really know why and call it idiopathic, which is not a lot of help.

Anyway. I used to be a keen runner, loved yoga, and zumba, and kickboxing, and any kind of dancing you can think of. I get so so so frustrated and I just want my old life back. I am sure lots of you here can empathise.

On top of that I have gained a good 26 pounds (12kg) over the last year, so my overall experience in myself is... ready to be improved upon! I just don't know where to start. I do know all the principles, like, eating fresh and nonprocessed foods, drinking enough water, reducing sugar as much as possible, getting good sleep. I even lost a lot of weight with a low carb diet last year, but when I wanted to start this again, I almost fainted and my work had to call an ambulance (not a nice experience).

Sorry my first appearance here is so gloomy... I am normally quite an upbeat person I think. Just, I have days when I find it really, really difficult, and I look forward to getting some help - and giving some, too! Doing this stuff alone is insane. We have to help each other. x
