Hi all. 2 Saturdays ago we had a shakey shakey time when there was a 7.2 earthquake off of Haidi Gwaii (BC). Where I live it was around a 3, enough that everything swung - the blinds, the lights and we felt very disorientated. Haidi Gwaii continues to be hit with lots of after-shocks and new smaller earthquakes since the "big one." It was 19 miles down and sideways, which apparently was the saving grace. The plates didn't shift one above the other, rather they shifted sideways. Apparently the plates are 8 metres apart now.

Then the cold hit, it broke weather records from 1971 and the snow fell. From that it started to climb and today, we are at 6C. It is something to go from -29C to +6C in a week!

Oh and I live in the exact centre of BC.

Winter has arrived here on the Wet coast, but thankfully it is staying between 5,000 and 6.000 feet while my house is at 200 feet. It the meantime it is wet, dreary, wet and, . . . well . . . wet. Hopefully the snow will stay out of the valley until at least December ;-)

We (Manitoba) had some snow a few times but it faded away and what a chill in the air. I can still enjoy looking at my perennials until the snow hits and lingers until spring.

Similar here in BC, winter finally decided to arrive and personally I'd take the cold any time over the freezing rain we had earlier. I live in north-central BC and freezing rain only occurs normally mid-October. Then it melts off, goes away and it snows. The past few years though we've had to deal with mild winters and it becomes like the coast - freezing rain and ice. Sunday was gorgeous, around -15C with the wind chill and made for okay walking weather. It was wonderful when you walked with the wind on your back and face to the sun, that's for sure. Today it's -22C with wind chill around -30C. It's supposed to go down to -45C with the wind chill this week and I hope that it doesn't do that. Not so much that it's cold, more that I just started working in a distant office and the first groups for children start on Thursday. If it dips down that cold the school buses shut down (they won't travel from -35C and below). I am looking forward to starting up in the schools and hope that it stays reasonable. Sure gotta love this sun though, even with the cold. It's been too long without it!

Winter has definitely arrived in NS! We have been very luck so far, but as Mollie said, it's very chilly here today. I had a nice weekend in the city visiting family & friends. So glad it was just cold and not snowing so I could go visit. emoticon

Hi everyone! We moved into our house on Nov. 10, our furniture arrived from storage one week later- we had a mattress on the floor, two camp chairs and a table made from a sheet of plywood and two boxes. Since then we have been unpacking, painting, hanging lights and enjoying our new digs. Without trying I have lost 8 pounds and aim to keep it off. Now it's time to get ready for Christmas- where to start ? :-). Thanks to all of you who left messages on my page- we just got connected last Wednesday, I really have been out of the loop. Have a wonderful week and enjoy the season...MJ

After lunch today that will be it for left-overs from Thanksgiving Dinner. We had a lovely dinner with all the trimmings.

Putting that a side, once again it it time to crack the whip and get on with the business of losing weight.

Have a great week.

Yes, it is a great time to reflect, to take time with significant people, to replenish. Yom Kippur is certainly an intense moment to reaffirm one's relationship to a higher power -- I am grateful that there is enough religious tolerance in many parts of Canada to permit individuals and families to practice their chosen beliefs with respect.

The sun is out here in Wolfville but other areas are still facing tidal surges due to the very stiff northeast winds blowing onshore. And if that's not enough check this out:

We are totally drenched and the rain keeps on pouring down. We're safe here inland but I feel for everyone living along the coastlines, with the wind and surges there will be a lot of flooding and shoreline washouts. Stay safe. Later in the year this would be the blizzard of the century- I wonder what the snow equivalent of 100mm rain is? emoticon emoticon

Wow, we are suddenly a very quiet bunch! Maybe talk of bears scared everyone away?:-)
We are finally having summer here in NS, beautiful warm sunshine at last. Unfortunately it won't last much longer. Our house building is progressing but it won't be ready before we have to leave our rental on the 15th so we are now in plan B having rented a big 5th wheeler to tide us over. It will be interesting sharing that space with one very energetic 70 lb. dog but we will be on site and will be able to work on the house after the carpenters are finished each day. What an adventure!

No mosquitos is right but there is always a trade off. The ground is cracking everywhere with the the lack of rain.

How awesome to live in the mosquito capital of Canada without the little buggers.

Exciting time for you MJ - I'm glad you're happy in your new 'temporary' place. Everyone is so busy - great summer weather here - dare I say it, it's a little dry. Lots of watering to do and just not the same as a nice gentle rain. Added bonus of almost no mosquitoes!! Still giggling about the calories in a bug story!!! Have a great weekend everyone!

Woot! Our house sale has finally closed today, our move to our rental went well yesterday and the rest of our belongings are safely in storage. Our rental is incredibly QUIET and private- we slept like logs last night. And we have a yard to care for while the owner is away, lots of weeding and mowing to do. Framing starts first thing Monday morning on our new home, can't wait! Have a super weekend everyone...MJ

Hey, hope this note finds everyone well. The humidity seems to be much better and I hope everyone is able to get outside moving in the gardens again. The weather is so up and down, but you know we have to try to be creative in finding places to exercise when the bad weather comes. I love to check out the new exercises that spark sends us. They are quick interval ones that keeps the heart rate going and you can kill alot of calories in just 20 minutes. Thanks Spark! Well, here's hoping everyone has a productive week. :)

Hey, you forgot to calculate the protein as well as the calories- bugs are a huge source of protein for many folks in our world. Hope you had fun picking it out of your teeth!
It's sunny and warm here after a deluge yesterday- tomorrow we hope desperately that our concrete pad is finally poured. On the home front we are into our last week- Thursday the moving van comes, tomorrow our 2 cats go to boarding for two months and on Friday this old place is closed. Am I sad?- NO! On Thursday night last a large branch was torn from a tree on the boulevard in front of our of house- we are not even into university season and the noise and vandalism has already started. There is no respect for property and privacy anymore. It will be such a joy to be living in a rural community again- we have already been welcomed by new neighbours, what a joy!

Hello Everyone!
It's kind of an "iffy" weather day here.... it can't decide whether to be warm and sunny, cloudy and cool or cloudy with dark ominous clouds and muggy!
I had to share with everyone something that happened earlier today!
I've been trying to get out on my bike as much as I can this past week!
So this morning I hopped onto my bike began to ride into town and then promptly swallowed a bug!
As I was riding, gagging and trying to spit the darn thing out a thought rolled through my head...
Ready?
Obviously a self defense mechanism....my brain throws this one through my thought process
"I wonder how many calories a bug has??"
Well I must say that immediately I forgot about gagging and spitting and ended up smiling at how ludicrous my mind is working over the calorie scene currently!
I knew only others that are on this same path of weight loss would appreciate it!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Everyone......it's been quite sometime since I posted on this Team...but I'm back now at least twice a week to weigh-in...I've gained my 40 pounds I lost just before Xmas last year and I have very little energy with this extra weight....I'm sooo depressed that I have to do it all again!! and my son is getting married in a few months too so want to lose at least 20 pounds by then...they haven't set a date yet but will likely be shortly after Xmas...

Were having great weather here in Vancouver now...tho some days are a bit to warm for me 75-76 is about all I can barley stand in the heat...Yes. I know your all having a heat wave back east..I hope it's getting cooler for you now..

I found 2 very nice long jacket dresses in pale blue for the Wedding and had to order them in two different sizes..I have to bring them home to see which one fits me now as it was such a very good sale price on both of them...the sale was only on for 5 days...so now with my diet and losing weight by the time the Wedding arrives I'll have to have the dress adjusted I guess....I hope that won't cost to much!!

I did start my diet up to a point on Monday....(I tried to watch what I ate) I had to wait to get my diet food and do my end of the month shopping on Wednesday when I got paid..tho I have been drinking water...so we'll see how it goes now...I'll weigh myself on Monday and I hope I'm down at least a pound or two...

I hope all of you have a great weekend and the weather has cooled down for you...

Take care and will see you all later this week emoticon

It's such a hot summer. I would love to get a new summer wardrobe now that everything is on sale............but who knows, what size I will be next year. That's more or less the story of my life. My fluctuating weight is always a concern when it comes to purchases for down the road.

Thankfully cooler today! 10 days until we move, only a few things left to pack. Then it's cleaning, weed the garden and say good bye to this old house. We should have our first walls at the new place this week- finally after some weather delays, the carpenters are very keen to get at it. My exercise is multiple trips up and down all three flights of stairs carrying heavy boxes, food wise is not the best as we just don't feel like cooking.
Have a good week everyone...MJ

Hi Gang!

the weather sure has been from one extreme to the other this month.
I'm doing allright. Keeping busy. Not doing wonderful with the food and exercise, but I'm trying to be mindful. One day at a time...

Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.

No walls but the well gets drilled on Monday, also the base for the concrete pad and in floor heat lines will be foam insulated.
It is COLD here- think having to wear a fleece jacket in mid July cold. At least the sun is shining. Packing continues, just 3 weeks until our closing date.
Have a super weekend everyone...MJ

Hi all,
I'm busy enjoying the good weather we're having - lots of gardening and outdoor projects on the go. Mel, that is awesome news about hubby's job - I hope he enjoys it!
MJ, are you seeing any walls go up yet? It is so exciting to watch your new home being built.

emoticon Mel, you must be ecstatic! It is so encouraging that you and yours waited patiently, for months, for suitable employment. It is never right when a setback occurs, but oh, how sweet it is to experience the turn around.
Best wishes to all! Gail
