I wish I could but I live in an apartment with no balcony. We do have wide window sills but they way we have our furniture arranged, we wouldn't be able to get to the sill to water.

I was JUST talking about this with a friend! I have never grown anything and I've killed any plant brought into my home BUT, Mike and I have decided to attempt to grow a few things in pots this year (we live in an apartment but we have a balcony) We want to do peppers since we eat a ton of them. Not sure what else though, I've heard zucchini are good for growing in pots...

Any suggestions?

Do you plan on planting any fresh veggies this season?

We've done tomatoes and peppers in the past in a container garden. I think we're going to try to do something this year too. We're pretty spoiled with the local organic farm we go to. Their prices are so reasonable it's a better value to buy from them. I would love my own salad garden though.

Ill have to wait on any new wardrobe unless its on a clearance rack or goodwill bc all extra money is going towards house ..as soon as we get it finished I plan on making extra payment to get a few bills paid off sooner

That is a good question and one that I have been thinking about. I have a ways to go before these clothes are ridiculously too big but I have a family reunion coming in August that I'm going to have to have some new clothes for. I'm not sure what I'm going to do because money is beyond tight. I guess it's going to be Walmart t-shirts and pants.

I love to find stuff at goodwill since I am still trying to reduce in size. I have been getting rid of anything that gets too big. Once I move down in size I never intend to go back!

I'm trying to wait it out as long as possible, due to money issues. I do however work nights at Maurice's and get a hefty discount lol. I also own a few different sizes so I have wiggle room.

How are you handling your wardrobe as you change sizes?

I resisted buying new clothes at first, but then I was forced because my old things were comically baggy. Even after more than a year of going down in size I still find myself looking at and trying on clothes that are too big. It's still sometimes hard to believe I can fit the sizes I do I guess. No matter what size though, bra shopping is the worst!! lol

I used to take any new diet pill that come on the market . I did lose weight but I was very emotional and irrational emoticon plus I gained all the weight back when I quit taking them emoticon now I realize its not about a quick fix its about healthy and happy emoticon

When I was in my early 20s I took Ripped Fuel, that was back when they still put ephedrine in it and at the time I LOVED it, it gave me a ton of energy an I lost weight on it. Then they found out all the dangers associated with it and I stopped. I've taken others too, like Hydroxycut but didn't notice anything, not even an energy boost. It's been a long time now since I messed with anything like that, they don't work and they're expensive. Now I get my energy from exercise...ok and the occasional 5 hour energy lol every once in a while my husband and I will split one

Do you take or have you ever tried supplements for weight loss? If so, was/is it effective?

I don't take anything and it seems like most things I see have very mixed reviews. I take a few medications so I'm pretty hesitant to take anything for fear it will interfere with my meds. At the same time if there was something that would help boost my hard work I would love that!

Great question!!

During the week water is easy, but on the weekends I slack off. Exercise comes and goes honestly, some weeks it's effortless and some...not so much lol. Eating healthy isn't too bad because I genuinly LOVE fruits & veggies.

it's hard to stick to the "light" menu but worth it when you don't feel overstuffed and guilty at the end of the meal lol Even out McDonalds has the calorie count for EVEYTHING right on the drive through menu...gotta wonder how accurate that is though.

I wish we had a Red Lobster near us. The closest one is in New York state near my Mom. We always go when we visit her. I haven't been to a real restaurant since I started eating lighter. I've always been aware that they had lighter choices but always ignored them. Not any more!

I like the Bar Harbor Salad at Red Lobster with shrimp and blueberry balsamic dressing. I get the dressing on the side and only use half and I skip the blue cheese. I always ask for restaurants to skip the seasoning on any meat I order and if they come with sauce I ask for it on the side. Sadly, most chain restaurant dishes are loaded in sodium so those two requests helps reduce that. It's nice to see more restaurants offering lower calorie choices. Even Cracker Barrel does it now!

Applebee's has a steak on their low cal menu that's good too, can't remember the name of it. So much salt though. We have a locally owned place just down the street from us that makes a grilled veggie panini that is supper good, I get it with cottage cheese

What new food/activity/habit have you added to your program lately?

I'm always on the lookout for new food and/or recipes. After doing some reading I'm trying out lowering my carbs a bit a few days a week and adding in more healthy fats. I also dug out my old power 90 tapes and added those workouts 4 days a week.

Did some shopping today and a hockey game tonight. Our local team just signed the first girl goalie for this region ever and she is a gold medal olympian from these past olympics. Was a pretty fun night. Tomorrow is a fundraiser and concert for the youth orchestra my daughter is in. I'm really looking forward to it!

Today I will spend some time with my daughter and mother. Mom has recently been moved to a nursing home. On Sundays, we like to bring her a special lunch treat. Today it is beef stew and cornbread. She sees me three times a week, but she really lights up when she gets to see her grandaughter! Afterwards, my daughter and I will shop for groceries. We are both on a journey to better health and we find it helps shop together; more encouragement to pick healthy options and steer away from temptation. the rest of the day I plan on being extra lazy!

Tonight is a spagetti dinner and dessert auction at Church. It will be our first experience going out. We plan to have very small portions and if we bid and win something, we'll give it to another family.

What is going on this weekend??

Tonight I'm working. Tomorrow Mike is working then we are going out with friends, for "grown-up cocktails" lol I think this just means not beer. Sunday is lazy day. We are planning a trip to a newly remodeled local grocery store, primarily produce & deli. Does it show my age that this is the part of the weekend I'm really looking forward too?

What are a couple of healthy changes you've made that have really stuck?


For me getting up in the morning to exercise is second nature now, I feel weird if I don't. Another one I notice this week was my breakfast routine. I usually have a hard boiled egg and a banana for breakfast (fast & easy) yesterday my egg had a crack in it so when I peeled it it was weird, I threw it out but them was like, "gotta find a protein" and grabbed a few slices of turkey. For some reason this really tickled me lol.

I like Mrs. Dash seasoning also. I have tried them on my salads and they taste just great.

Melba toast also goes good with the salad. It gives me the crunchiness that I miss.

I've learned so much in the last year about cutting out salt, I'd love to share some basics.
First of all, give yourself time to get used to not using it. It took me a good month or two, but it's so worth it!
Mrs Dash makes all kinds of seasonings. I use the table blend in place of my salt shaker. Invest in as many of them as you think you'd like to try.
If you don't already have one, get a fresh pepper grinder. The pepper taste so much better freshly ground on your food.
Last basic tip is read labels on food and the nutrition guides for restaurants. This is just one more reason it's better to avoid processed food. I've learned to make my own dressings, marinades and sauces. Restaurant food, especially chains is LOADED with sodium. I am not shy about asking for my food to be prepared with no salt, sauces and dressings on the side.
