What has helped my consistency the most has been a reward system as well as tracking. Before SparkPeople, I used a small calendar with a bingo marker. Every day I exercised a specific minimum time (for most years 30 min), I marked the calendar with a bingo marker. If I had enough marks in a week (most years four or more), I counted it toward a streak. Now on SparkPeople, I use the Quick Tracking and use the Daily Summary under Reports menu.

REWARDS have been key especially in the beginning of streaks. At first, it was if I made 4 weeks, then 8, then 16, then 20. After that it was months. Now its the six month interval. I personally chose rewards of exercise or fitness equipment. For example, when I made two years, I got a pair of padded bicycle shorts. At three years my husband talked me into getting both the reward items I was debating. When I make 3-1/2 years (182 weeks). I'm going to pre-order the new FitBit Alta.

I have noticed that once I make 20+ weeks, the streak becomes it's own incentive. I make time to exercise even when it's very less than convenient. Right now, I SO don't want to loose the streak. I'm almost 69 years old and the odds of getting a new long streak aren't good. As a person gets older, health can become it's own issue.

Being in my 60's has been it's own incentive for exercising. I keep on reminding myself "USE IT OR LOOSE IT". How fit I am will affect the quality of my retirement and mental health.

Hope this helps --- but PLEASE FOCUS ON YOUR DIRECTION NOT EACH STEP. YOU'VE BEEN DOING GREAT!

Thanks, I could do better, for sure, but I'm making a consistent effort to move more often. I need to do more aerobics, but the walking is definitely helping some.

You, on the other hand, are so impressive. I love seeing how busy and active you are. Keep up the good work!

Last Saturday, I did a 10k Volkswalk at Bok Tower Gardens. After the walk and lunch, I did some sketching. It's been a few years since I've done some sketching at Bok Tower or other gardens. Made mistake of not brining a jacket with me. I had to stop when I got too cold.

Yesterday I set a priority list of my overall To Do list at work, broke it into smaller goals and reached the first goal.

I've also been tracking my food all week for the 5% challenge, getting my water in, and moving more.

My exercise streak is 156 weeks in a row or THREE YEARS! There have been some weeks that it was a struggle but I have been determined not to lose my streak. I'm over 65 (getting way over) and know my health can change quickly (one fall and you can down for awhile). I feel that whenever something happens that I lose my streak, I doubt I'll be able to get one this long again. Each week of the streak I had an at least four exercise sessions with at least 30 minutes per session. emoticon emoticon

My weight hit a current new low this week. emoticon emoticon My diet has been consistent since February with some notable exceptions. One of them was this past weekend when I went to a Florida Trail Skills Workshop weekend. They fed us AND the food was so not on my diet & didn't taste that great either. Luckily I wasn't paying for the session. At least I got some great exercise, learned some great stuff, and met some great people.

My weight is at a good point. I do need to lose some fat around my middle. If I can tone up my thighs and arms, the weight loss will look better. Lost the weight but my skin didn't shrink. Didn't expect it to but it makes me not crazy about my look in the mirror with shorts. Living in Florida, if I don't want to get overheated, it will be shorts. Oh, well. emoticon

On week #147 of my exercise streak. That's 2 years, 5 months, and 3 weeks.

Re exercise, I have some challenging weeks coming up with some trips. Having the streak gives me extra incentive to fit exercise in -- somehow.

I have been following a diet based on blood type (Dr. D'Adamo's books and other). Since the transition to the diet, I've lost close to 20 pounds.

Yesterday was a challenging day food wise; I had a family reunion at noon and a wedding couples shower BBQ in the evening. So, I did a 45 minute workout first thing in the morning. I still ate some things I shouldn't have, but it would have been worse had I not exercised. Back on track today!

Celebrated exercise streak of 136 weeks by leading a bike ride for local chapter of Florida Trail Association. Because of heat issues, I cut the ride short. Dropped off two miles of biking in full sun at high 70's to low 80's.

After bike ride, most of group had lunch at a local pizza shop. If I was still doing dairy, I would have had the gluten free pizza or pasta. I had a good salad with romaine lettuce, beef, and really good tomatoes. I used two packets of Real Lemon with some olive oil. Besides being on my diet, it was VERY GOOD.

I have been losing weight slowly but steadily since I started changing my diet to one based on blood type. My exercise streak is at 132 weeks (two weeks more than 2-1/2 years). Most weeks I have a nice variety of exercise. Life is Good!! emoticon

Working on week 125 of my exercise streak. That would be two years, 4 months, and one week if I figured it correctly. Of all that I do or have done for my health, exercise is the most important to me.

Transitioning back to a diet based on my blood type using the books by Dr. D'Adamo. I've had a few totally compliant days. For me the major "avoids" are wheat & dairy. Had my last cup of coffee with milk last week. I've lost some weight!! I was the lowest I've been on the scale this morning. Realize that could fluctuate up & down. emoticon

After doing a six mile hike in the morning, I FINALLY did a drawing. Have posted picture on my page and even posted to Facebook. I'm not necessarily proud of way the picture came out BUT I am proud that I did it. It was hard to start as well as keep on going. PERFECTIONISM was raging full bore. Knowing how it was affecting me as I worked, I am so very proud of myself for finishing.

Did my third Volksmarch today. It was a 10k. That's about 6.2 miles. Used my Nordic poles for about 50% of the time. Had a good time. I did it with a Meetup.com group. There were nine of us plus one dog. We walked at the Dade Battlefield in Bushnell.

Had an intense three days. I kayaked for over four hours on Saturday. Yesterday, I did a 10k Volkswalk. We ended doing closer to 7 miles than 6.2. According to the Fitbit, I walked over nine miles yesterday. Today, I hiked for at least four hours - pace was slow as we were dealing with a lot of wet (several inches deep wet) trails. We hiked over seven miles and as of this moment, I have again walked seven miles.

Tuesday will be a slower day re fitness but Wednesday, I'll be doing trail work. That will a couple of hours of walking & painting blazes.

Next weekend, if my husband is up to it, we're camping with a group of people. Should be an active weekend.

My legs are tired but I'm feeling very happy. Not sure what my back will be like tomorrow morning.

I finally chose my reward for two years of exercise. I have been trying to use a pair of trekking aka hiking poles with Nordic tips. However, they don't have the right handle and wrist strap to do Nordic walking correctly. Nordic poles have a wrist strap system that is easier An wrists. With all the wrist & tendonitis problems I have had in the past, I decided to get a pair of Nordic poles.
Years ago, I had a chance to do a 10+ mile walk with a pair of Nordic poles. They had a quick release system for the straps. After researching, I decided on a particular pair of Leki poles. Problem is, they are out of stock until next year. What I am proud of myself for (and lucky I could afford to do), is that I allowed myself to buy a more expensive pair. They will be lighter than the ones I wanted to order. That is a very good thing.
Now, I have to wait to get them in.
Still on exercise streak; I've got too much time in it to even consider dropping it.

Exercise streak at 100 weeks. Only four weeks to a two year streak. emoticon

Bougainvilleas were stressed by bugs but now are looking a lot better and flowering again. I had to stop gardening awhile and then left for three weeks. They are looking a lot better than before I left. emoticon

WaysOfGrace - I like that I've gotten 2,000 fitness minutes; however, I've only gotten them since I retired.

Re the activity streaks, I have exercised more in the past few years than for most of my life. So wherever you are now, there is time to change. Sometimes there is a mental shift that makes it easier. For me, it HAS been the exercise streak. If I can make it past 25 weeks, a certain momentum and pride takes over. No way do I want to lose it at that point. The week I lost my previous 78 weeks streak was a mentally funky week for me. I lost focus for a lot of things that week.

You'll be fine.

got another month of 2,000 fitness minutes. Working on week 78 of exercise streak. Believe that will tie my all time record. Will CELEBRATE week 80. Actually week 80 & 81 will be challenge weeks. But unless medical issues come up -- will not let streak go.

Hiked six miles @ Tenorac section of Saddle Creek in company of friends who are fairly fast hikers. We did some water, snack, and talk stops. Still did in less than 2-1/2 hours. Given the "hilly" terrain--not a bad time. Note-most Florida trails are flat. The area I was in is an old phosphate mine section. Where they dug are nice lakes for fishing & kayaking. The tailings became a series of mounds that twist & turn in a beautiful wooded area. There are views of lakes on the trail. Part of the trail leads to an observation tower overlooking a lake. I'll be leading a group there next Sat., pace will be a lot slower.

Exercise streak @ 65 weeks. Finished 2013 with four months of over 1,500 fitness minutes.
Tracking calories today for first time in FOREVER. Need to. My weight is now highest in my life. I have finally starting weighting myself & acknowledging my current weight on SparkPeople.

I togged up and went for my usual 60 minute walk. Nice going some directions, pretty windy-cool on the way home! Then I upped my doorknob exercise routine from 3 sets of 15 reps to 4 sets.
