Can a Person With an Undetectable Viral Load Transmit HIV?
Can person with undetectable viral load infect a negative person
Aug 18, 2012
I am a positive female with an undetectable viral load. My boyfriend is negative. Can he become positive from unprotected sex if my viral load is undetectable?
Response from Ms. Southall
Hi There are studies out that show when someone is positive and taking medications and has a undetectable viral load the risk of HIV transmission is decreased by up to 96%. Condom use also dramatically decreases HIV risk. HIV transmission is difficult from women to men and so with an undetectable viral load is makes it that much more difficult and again condoms reduce that even more.
