Here's the story of the 4 Thieves from Eden's Garden. Other companies have the same blend but call it something different.

'A healing and restorative blend rooted in history. In France during the 17th Century, four unknown thieves discovered a curative blend that protected them against the deadly black plague. By mixing cloves, rosemary and other aromatics, the four thieves remained unharmed while many perished. When authorities eventually captured them, the thieves were given a shorter sentence for their secret. Centuries later, the Four Thieves mixture is known to be highly effective against airborne bacteria.

Four Thieves is a remedial mixture of Clove, Cinnamon Leaf, Rosemary, Lemon and Eucalyptus and has been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense. Made with care from our top quality oils and, as always, Edens Garden essential oils are never diluted or mixed with additives.'

I diffused some lemon and lemon eucalyptus yesterday and then a blend called 'Breathe Easier' in the bedroom last night. I'm using the 4 Thieves blend on the bottoms of my feet each morning.
Sinuses are feeling much better this morning. Maybe the oils will prevent if from coming back a 3rd time.

LLREED, I too am interested in hearing more about your experiences with your essential oils. The boyfriend bough some air wick plug in things and they really bugged my allergies. The first one he bought was a little strong and bothersome, but really wasn't that bad. But then the next time he bought a different fragrance of the same brand and it just sent me over the deep end, lol. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath with it, as the fumes just over powered my breathing. It bothered my sinus, I felt it stinging, it made my nose itch and sneeze like mad. My throat started to sting and feel really irritated too. Then next thing I know I am waking up with a sinus infection that turned into a chest infection. And of course he didn't really want to believe me that it was bothering me at first. Then he didn't want to believe that it was what made me sick. I finally got him to take it down. But now he just came home today with a different fragrance of the same brand and wanted me to agree to let him put it up. I will admit we need something as the dogs keep peeing in the house since I went to a college class that one week and week to work again. But I think there has to be some thing better than strong chemical smells that just mask the dog smell with there own over powering smell that isn't all that pleasant to me either. I would rather him go back to burning some incense once in a while or use some essential oils. I have a relative that sells essential oils that is suppose to be sending me some samples of stuff to help me keep healthy. I was thinking about seeing if maybe some thing in that package when I get it might be better than what he keeps buying. Luckily I talked him in to not putting his new stuff up until after I take my life insurance test Thursday. I told him I don't want to take a chance getting sick again before my test. I was thinking maybe some lavender, or vanilla, or lemon oil, as I like those smells and I know they didn't bother me before when I use to use them long ago to freshen up places I lived in long ago. But I was never trying to hide animal smells then, so not sure how that is going to work? I we have tried lots of different sprays to try to clean up after the dogs the last few yrs each time we got a new pup. And never had such a hard time dealing with it until this time. Almost makes me want to tear the carpet up in the hall way and not worry about what the hard wood floor under neath it looks like and just leave it that way. But I am sure he won't want it torn up with out the hard wood floor refinished, and when we had that done in the living room that was another chemical mess that also made me really sick until the smell finally wore off, but then I was still really sick from it for a long time after that. Or rent a steam cleaner, but until the pup gets over this peeing in the house that would just be a waste of money. I would have to keep cleaning it almost every day.

Hubby finished cleaning out our flower beds today and we had some stumps ground out. Hoping to be able to get started on outdoor preps for spring flower beds soon. We need some rain, though.

Glad to have you back, DADDYS_GIRL6! Missed you the last couple days.

Had a good Sun. Got some stuff planted in the house to replant outside when the garden is ready. Also did some time on the elliptical and 15 min. of ST.

Got a shipment of essential oils yesterday so I've been playing around with them. Lavender is too strong to diffuse in the bedroom at night! Trying to get rid of the bad bugs with lemon, lemon eucalyptus, and a blend called 4 Thieves. Interesting story behind the blend.

Thanks, I went to Co-dependent meetings and other 12 step meeting for a long while long ago. And have read a lot about it too. You are right you can not change anyone but yourself, and everyone has to want to change for themselves. If they don't want it, don't think they need it, or just don't want to have to work for the change then it probably won't work. And some times people have to hit rock bottom before they are ready. And others can really want it and try, but for what ever reason they have problems keeping up with the change and doing the work. Could be fear, insecurities, or lots of things.

All my best to you too.
Janette

well you do have a good understanding to much of this. I have some friends who have done a program called, Celebrate Recovery.

The thing that is also challenging for some who struggle with such things is not to try and control those who they see repeating these patterns.

Some books that I have appreciated with also address some of these things are: Battlefield of the Mind, Power Thoughts, Approval Addiction, all by Joyce Meyer. On changing thinking, Praying God's Word and Freedom In Christ ( I think it is), by Beth Moore.

Wishing you peace and hope.

I, myself see Co-dependence in myself and my relationships. Probably from my up bringing and even with lots of self work, and some counseling on it, it is still a big issue that I am working on today.

Yes, some times there is an underlying issue that needs dealt with to try to break the pattern, but also if you are going to replace one bad thing with another thing, make sure it is not something that could cause another problem down the line that could interfere with your life, your lively hood, your relationships.

My dad gave up drinking for my mom cold turkey before they got married, but started smoking cigarettes more and more instead. He tried several times to break that as it was causing problems with his health, and also causing problems for my mom's, my sister's and my allergies and with my asthma I was born with. He didn't give it up until he couldn't walk to the store or drive to the store and we refused per doctor's orders to buy them for him any more. We put him on a stop smoking plan of patches and such to help him kick it a few yrs before he died of a heart attack. Each time that he started to try to stop smoking before and then he would start to binge on candy instead of smoking, which wasn't healthy. I see no problem to the sunflower seeds.

My boyfriend gave up drinking long ago too, but like my dad, he smokes too much, binges on junk food too much, especially late at night. Drinks too much soda just like my dad to the point it isn't healthy. My boyfriend also does the sunflower seeds, and other seeds and nuts, but has candy way too much. He has addictive behaviors to TV, especially sports and to computer games. And he is teaching his son these same things, so already at a very young age his son was to me showing signs to the addictive behavior of video games, TV, junk food and candy all the time.

So not only should we watch out for what we eat and drink and do, but what examples are we showing to young children that are around us a lot.

Some times it is out of loneliness, or sadness, or feeling insecure, or out of place, or a way to escape a bad situation you are in what stuff like that. So some times until we realize what is helping to cause the issue and work on that, the problem can continue and even move on too other addictive behaviors, even if what started it in the first place has stopped or left our lives. Like people that have been abused, and don't work on that issue can develop addictive habits to help them withdraw from their reality, and some of those things can be healthy or risky. And then if they don't work on the first issue, even if they never see the person(s) that abused them again, and even if it only happened once, they can have addictive behaviors from it that could cause problems in their lives, like drinking, drugs, obsessive compulsive disorder, hoarding issues, or lots of things that are very hard even with professional help to over come.

I do see these patterns. I think some of these replacements aren't as serious. When my husband stopped smoking, he would eat a pile of sunflower seeds. He doesn't anymore.

So basically you are saying that the underlying issue isn't deal with.

I think just like alcoholism, a lot of addictive behaviors can be passed down in families. And if the person isn't aware of the possible issue they can easily become addictive to lots of things in life, not just alcohol. And if they don't try to seek some help, or guidance, or self-help for it, it could cause other problems in their lives. And even with help it can be hard to break, and some never can seem to manage it. Some people will try to stop drinking alcohol, or smoking, or some other bad habit. And then later that addiction can just get switched to something else that they can't stop. Like some that try to stop smoking, start chewing gum or eating hard candy or such and that starts a new addiction for them. Or to stop drinking alcohol maybe they will start drinking a lot of caffeinated drinks, soda or what ever and that starts a new problem for them. Some people trying to lose weight can get too carried away and not eat enough or become bulimic. So people get addicted to playing games on the computer, trying to take their minds off of drinking, or eating or smoking, etc. And it can be just as hard to break that habit.

I haven't seen anything in regards to binge eating but I'd be tempted to think that would be something that they could consider a medical problem that the pharmaceutical companies could start benefitting from in regards to a new medical condition that requires pharmaceutical intervention.

Good morning! Hope everyone has a great day and is ready for the weekend!

Any thoughts from anyone on the idea that binge eating is a medical disorder? I've been seeing a lot of ads popping up here and there regarding this. Is it really, or is this just a new way for drug companies to make more money?

Still getting over this sinus infection/bronchitis thing. Thought I was done, but last Fri. it hit me again. Spent all day Mon. annoying my co-workers with my cough and all that night in the recliner trying to stay at enough of an incline to sleep. Yesterday was much better but ended up with a sinus headache and last night I used a pillow in bed to sit up a little rather than sleeping in the chair. Hoping for a good night tonight.
Off work tomorrow to go with my SO to an appt. with the eye dr. (a 2 1/2 hr. drive). He had cataract surgery last week and this is the follow up.
Have a great rest of the week!

LOL Grass is a big topic here this fine Spring morning. My sweet DD has decided she will take over the lawn mowing since it upsets my allergies so badly. I am very thankful since we have such a large yard. I will miss the exercise and the enjoyment of being outside.

Got rain today and that should help get the grass growing again. Not that I want it to because I mow all year long, but it does look nice when it is greener.

Good morning. I am beyond words at the sight I see out there! Wrong colour, I want to see green! We were having such a good run of good weather, I know it's coming but... Anyway, have a great day.

sounds good and will try it

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

THANKS! That is quite a large egg to flour ratio but it sounds really good!

1/4 cup sifted coconut flour
1/2 cup coconut flakes
2 eggs
1/2 Tbls honey (optional)
1/4 /c butter, melted
1/4 tsp salt

mix ingredients, putting flour in last.
knead 1 full minute. roll using two wax paper sheets. One on top and make 1/8 inch thick.
hard part is getting it into pan. use a thin flat object that's stiff like piece of cardboard, or cookie sheet and slip under the bottom wax paper. place other hand on top. gently but quickly flipover on top of pan you will use.

Bake 400o 12 to 15 minutes.

I'm not worried about the eggs, I eat a lot anyway, but some of the recipes I've seen call for 6 or 8 eggs in a recipe and I just thought that was a bit much. I read somewhere also that you need to use an egg for ever ounce of coconut flour. I would like that recipe for coconut flour pie crust.

I'm interested in finding out about yeast and GMO, though. It sounds like an interesting thing to research.

Have not baked yet and want to try it with the gluten free flours. As for the beer not get loss since I don't like beer but want to find an alternative to using yeast in breads.

2 eggs - I think you could substitute it but would have to do some research. Maybe use coconut oil. I have a whole wheat pie crust that is just flour, olive oil and salt and it is pressed into the pie plate. Might be the same way with out the eggs but if 2 eggs are too many then there has to be another way. ;-)

LIVELYGIRL2, do you think that would work? I have a pretty good blender emoticon

DADDYS_GIRL6, do you have to add a lot of eggs to your pie crust? I've been looking at some recipes and they all call for A LOT of eggs.

Warmer weather can't come soon enough around here; we need rain and the wind just keeps blowing. I still haven't kicked this crap that I got earlier this month and it's moved from my sinuses back into my chest so I'm coughing again. Don't want to spend more nights in the recliner . I really hate being sick; I feel completely out of control.

I bet we could make this coconut flour way cheaper than purchasing it. Just throw some coconut in the blender.

I have a coconut flour pie crust recipe and it was delicious. I do wonder about our children. What is all the change in our food going to do to them as they will never get nutritious foods as we did.

Have a great day Everyone!

I bought a gluten-free mix of flour for baking when my Aunt was visiting. She is gluten-intolerant and I found a recipe for some muffins that I took to a cookout. They were pumpkin spice - yummy! After reading about all the ingredients you need to add to your gluten-free flour mixture I decided it would be easier to just buy a pre-mixed flour combination.

It's by King Arthur Flour and is called gluten free multi-purpose flour.

It measured the same as regular flour and worked great.

Easy!

My sister makes a nice gluten free chocolate cake with quinoa. She has also bought several kinds of flours --- rice and coconut flours are just two, but I can't remember the others off the top of my head. She combines them in different amounts depending on what she is making.... Whenever she makes a birthday cake, this her "go to" now so that she can also have a piece of the cake.....

I don't have a problem with gluten but I've enjoyed trying some of the noodles that are made with Quinoa. I really can't tell a big difference in the two.
