I know they are great. I wasn't doing this, unless I felt something coming on. Now that I had this repeat thing I already mentioned, I will at least for awhile. It has to do with cost, of the stuff my husband takes.

I don't take them daily as for the cost since I am not working. But I do take them when ever I am feeling like some thing is coming on. And I especially take them several times a day when ever I am on antibiotics as the antibiotics always give me yeast problems.

I think little things count as R&R, such as a haircut, manicure and church. I love how I feel after my head has been shampooed and massaged by my stylist. Also how my hands look and feel after a manicure, and nothing can compare to the peace and comfort I get from being in God's house.

We managed to go for a 3 day weekend in 09 to the Bf's brother's house for Thanksgiving. And then I think it was in 10 or 11 we managed to go to Utah for a week to visit more relatives of his. That is the last vacation we took together. His son has gone on vacations with his mom every yr at least one a yr. The guys have gone on several expensive over night fishing trips during the summer the last several yrs. But I get sea sick really bad, so I didn't bother to go on those with them. So my time off from work besides those two trips were spent at home watching the boy.

I think any season is a great time for some R&R. Our anniversary is in Feb. and we like to go away for a couple of days then and usually a beach trip in the summer. I get 3 weeks vacation at work and I like to spread them out throughout the year.

Even when I worked I usually didn't take off at a certain time for R&R. I have been out of the work force for a couple of yrs now. Before and now, I just seemed to take my vacation time when something came up and I needed it. Like if family members were in the hospital, or I was really sick and didn't have the sick time available, they would have me use my vacation time. The last few yrs that I did work I ended up taking off when ever the kid was out of school so that I could help with taking care of him instead of him going to "summer school" or an "after school" program or any of that stuff that he hates going to. He hates being in school and doesn't like getting stuck in a school like program during any of his school breaks during the year. So the last five yrs I have tried to help out so that he has to attend them as little as possible. It saves a lot of money that way too as they are all so expensive. I am sure when I go back to work it will be the same way.

Good Morning team!

Thank you Dorothy! Debby has messaged me and also reminded me of a 7 month period where I lost 3 people very close to my heart. And then over the summer I lost 2 pets as well. So you could say the last year has been very hard on me. Starting right now I am going to have a much better year. emoticon

What season (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) is your favorite to take off and get away for a little R&R.??? Could be a weekend, over night, or a long vacation.

I have both but today I could not use the land line because I lost power and my land line it with the cable company and with not power I had no phone or anything else to do and at least it was not a hot day. It was 82 today and not humid so that was good because I would of been sweating like crazy if it was any other time. Don't do hot weather real good.

As for the nutrients that help you get better I think that is a good idea and I think when that was put up is when you(EJ) had a loss in your family and friends.

I have a corded phone and 2 corless phones, all on the same home number.

If the power ever goes out, the corded phone will continue to work, although all the extra features will not. The cordless phones would be useless, so when my sister bought me a phone for Christmas one year, she made sure to find a system that included a corded phone.

I have a cell phone that I only use for emergencies. Now that I no longer work, I don't use it nearly as much as I used to. It is a pay as you go......

As for the new threads / title, I am ok either starting a new thread, or using the existing one.... Depending on how old that existing one is, maybe it needs to be bumped up to the top so it is visable again, at least until we have a chance to get used to it.... Just my 2 cents.... lol

Ok, if this is so, we can continue this conversation. I'm just trying to get rid of these things repeating, and my old standby's weren't doing it right now.

I changed my Dr. because of getting Kaiser. We had to because of cost. I got an osteopath. I thought he would be holistically minded

. So far he is willing to monitor me with my cholesterol ( and the things I'm trying. So far he hasn't recommended anything other than the standard stuff. It may be the Kaiser won't allow him to prescribe other treatments.

To be fair, I only saw him once, so he might tell me things to curb not keep getting these type of things like yeast and bladder and certain things.

I'm not against taking the meds for short term just to get rid of it. I am trying to work on it, so it doesn't get chronic again.

I like the idea of the new thread and the title!

Gave up the regular land line in 06. Went to a just a cell phone for several yrs. Then got a cordless land line too I think in 08 or 09 from my last boss that had two phones with it and an answer machine function too. So one phone could be down stairs and one up stairs in my old place. Now that same phone system is used here, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. But some how the bf managed to get it listed as a cell phone instead of a land line on with his cell phone bill. So he pays for those three phones. And I moved my cell phone off of a plan with T-Mobile to pay as I go with T-mobile. I put $100 on my cell phone and that gets me 1000 any time/any where mins. And because I put $100 on the acct long ago I am a special "Gold" member and get discounts on my mins. Off my head I am not sure, but I think I get 15 % discount when putting new mins on my acct? My mins are good for a yr. I don't use my phone much, so I can usually stretch that $100 out to the year or close to it. And as long as I call or go Online a head of that year dead line and before I run out of mins, and add at least another $10 to my acct, then any mins I had left over will roll over with the new mins and they will all be good for another year from the day I added the mins. So that has been working really good for me for several yrs now. But I don't do texting, I don't use any data plan, I don't go Online with my cell phone even though I could do all that stuff. But that would blow through my mins faster. I use it mostly for emergencies, and just to keep in touch with the bf and his ex about their boy, or my brother and his wife or my sister.

Good Morning Team!

LivelyGrl we can start a thread where people can post what they did for what ailment. Although everyone must be advised that it is not a thread that diagnoses or prescribes anything for another person. And what would you like to name this thread?
How about "What's Your Issue and How You Naturally Deal With It"
Let me know!

Today's question:
Do you have a landline or just a cell phone? Is your landline cordless or does it have a spiral cord attached to it?

LIVELYGIRL2, I get bladder and kidney problems on and off too, and Cranberry juice helps. But I found what works best for me with it is to put a cap full of apple cider vinegar in water and drink that several times a day until the problem is gone. And that usually works fast and solves the problem most of the time for me. I get yeast infections when I am on antibiotics, and yogurt and Acidophilus pills help me with it. But doesn't always stop it. Fish pills helped my cholesterol, I just take 2-3 of them a day. I eat oatmeal almost every morning though too.

If it allowed, it would be great to say some natural things each does for various everyday treatments. I know some of us use both traditional meds and alternative stuff, or to keep our immune system out.

If we say something to the effect that we tried such and such and it helps or doesn't work, this isn't an endorsement but personal experience or something we heard with a disclaimer.

For example I have had bladder infections once in awhile or yeast. I've tried the common things like yogurt, cranberry juice, C, zinc.

I used to have this stuff a lot and now not as much, but the last 3 years, more frequently. Right now I'm trying to cut down on carbs and sweets .....

I did mention it before but when the date arrives, they want to redo my cholesterol and I've been adding more exercise, and oatmeal and a ProFibe. The problem is last Christmas, I stopped that supplement when I got a cold and hadn't gone back to it, because I couldn't eat it with cold system's for 3 weeks. Because of that I would have to restart this because one has to start at a half serving and get up to 3. They came how good this is, but the texture and taste is unpleasant. It doesn't dissolve.

Great responses! Thank you! Just as with the Healthy Tip I will not post a question on Sundays. But I would love to hear from you all as to a question you would like for me to ask? I get up at 5AM to get my computer work done so sometime my brain doesn't work as efficient at that hour. Question ideas will be appreciated. emoticon

I do use fresh, frozen and or dehydrated, but I also keep some canned on hand "for those occasions....."

I used to buy the TV dinners a lot some years ago, but now I make almost everything at home so usually I can control the sodium.....

I don't do most of the cooking in the house, the bf does. And he does a mixture. I usually get a big box of just plain oats and use it for my breakfast. Lunch I prefer fresh salads, veggies and fruits. Dinner is what ever the bf decides to do usually.

DJ, There are so many different types of massages out there. But everyone I have heard that had deep tissue massages said it felt like they were beat up afterwards. The two previous PT/Chiro places I went to offered ice packs or a heating pad treatment at the end of the session. Or even offered alternating, which I heard could be really helpful to do the alternating after your sessions, or any time your back hurts. I don't really like ice packs on me unless I really injured myself severely enough that I really need it. Something like shutting a door on a finger type thing, or really getting hit hard with some thing. So when I was at the Chiro's and first PT office I always just chose to do the heating pad that really felt good. The last PT office just offered an ice pack at the end of the session, so I just skipped it and went home and used my own heating pad if I felt the need for it. But most the time I found just going home and rolling on my foam roller got out any extra kinks from my session and just resting was usually all I needed.

I do think fresh and frozen is the best.

However, I do eat some of that other stuff ( I don't know if we are discussing only fruits and vegetables ) because my husband won't eat certain scratch things.

Definitely fresh and frozen. 37 years ago I joined Weight Watchers. Tried it again 3 yrs ago. The biggest difference was all the frozen, and boxed meals and treats. Way too much added sodium and, well, junk.

Fresh and frozen for me. I try to get as much as I can from the farmer's market and then frozen for what I can't get!

Good Morning Team!

Okay I see Debby is right, you all would like for me to continue the question of the day.
Thank you everyone for your response.

When you cook do you use a lot of boxed goods and canned goods or do you try to cook more from scratch using fresh and frozen foods? As for myself I am more fresh and frozen.

Debby it was sore for a whole week and I could barely move because of it. So I am not sure if that was suppose to happen. The first one did not do that and it was all over but the last one was just the back and it felt like she beat me up with that the next day. I had to take a pain pill to help with the pain and that is one thing that I don't like to do.

Debby, water/pool noodles are a lot longer and skinnier, and not as firm. Then noodles kind of bend with your body weight in the water. This is a really hard firm and think column. It doesn't bend or squish at all with your body weight.

JMAHNKEN your foam roller sounds like what we called a "water noodle" for swimming.

DJ if you were sore for a while from your massage, I'd say it was a good one!!!

EJ I don't think anyone doesn't like your question of the day!! Looks to me like they answer it, and then go onto other things too!!! It's fun.

My roller looks like the "Foam Roller" Spark Goodie that we can send to people. Mine is 3 ft long and almost 6 inches across in diameter. You can buy them different diameters and different lengths. I have very sensitive skin that welts and bruises really easy. So deep tissue and other massages can leave me with big red marks on my skin that hurt, itch and bug me for at least 30 mins or more, and can leave me feeling if not looking bruised for days or longer too. But receiving these helped me to have greater movement and flexibility back for my back, sides and shoulders. So it was worth the temporary discomfort of them. My big foam roller really helps the same way but doesn't seem to make me feel bruise or sore afterwards. It just gets the kinks and knots out of my muscles and gives me greater flexibility again. With out it I get so I can't bend or twist to the left side as much as I should be able to do. And I have problems with using my shoulders and arms with out pain also with out using my roller and doing other exercises for my arms and shoulders regularly. And I end up with constant pain in my right side, and my back, and in my shoulders also if I don't do it regularly because of my scoliosis.

now I get it about your roller, since you showed me what it looks like. I have a basket with hand help plastic and wood do dads made for ones feet or back or sore spots.

I had no idea one of these foam things would work.

These things I have works from putting pressure in the annoying spot.

Up north we used a combo of wood & coal

Here in the South, it doesn't make sense as you can't just turn off the heat. Now we have a Heat Pump which puts moisture back into the air in the winter but it doesn't work as well in the summer with the cooling.

I use gas for heat and did grow up with coal furnace too. Had electric and hated it because it was so high and did not warm the room but stopped complaining after my neighbor came over and said that my house was warmer than her's and she had her temperature set higher than mine. She had those stupid heat pumps. Never could figure out how they got heat out of cold air. I could see if you were in Florida but not in Nebraska too cold.

I had a massage twice and both felt good but can't afford to do that. One was when my husband was alive and the other one was about a year ago when my brother-in-law came down for a visit and his wife paid for it. I was very sore the for the whole week too from it.

I've had several massages in the chiropractors office and several by a massage therapist . I wish I could afford it regularly. It is rather expensive but does wonders.

Long ago, after a car accident I went to a chiro for a bit and I had some deep tissue massages with that on and off along with the spine manipulations. They also used a "Tens Unit" I think it was called that gave you little shocks that moved your muscles where they placed the trigger points too.

Then many yrs after that I had to go for physical therapy for my shoulders and they did deep tissue massages on and off with that too. Now I know it was because of Scoliosis that I had problems.

And just this summer I had to go back to PT because of my scoliosis causing problems with my muscles in my sides, back and shoulders again. And again they did some deep tissue massage each time I went in for the 6 appointments I had. And they had me buy a foam roller from them so that I can massage my back, sides and shoulders and more myself with it. I think I paid about $25 for my roller and it is the best money I have ever spent to help with my issues from my scoliosis.

Linda, I think what I use to get was Gallery Glass made by Plaid? It's been a long time so I am not sure. But when I "google" that is what I come up with. And it looks like what I remember the bottles and and kits looking like. I posted two pics on the team wall of what the Outline of a kit looks like and then the finished project of a kit that has a really nice looking peacock design. I don't remember having to wear any thing protective for making these faux stain glass designs. I don't remember wearing any when helping with the real stained glass either though, except some band aids maybe?

I first used a Sports Massage Therapist. It was a miracle. Immediate improvement over going to a chiropractor for me. Later had Therapeutic massage when my shoulder froze. It was a long process, but avoided surgery, and continued to go to massage until my carpal tunnel was gone too. It's been like 14 years and the carpal tunnel (and frozen shoulder) have not returned.

Thank you for all the response! There are a lot of pros and cons to types of heating.

Have you ever gone for a massage and if so what kind of massage?? I have done lymphatic drainage and deep tissue as well as therapeutic massage.

1.)
I have so many crafts over the years, from Cross stitch and needlework, to ceramics and painting, perganamo, knitting and crochet --- just to name a few. The only thing I can still do is knitting.....

I also did Gallery Glass (made by Plaid) which is a type of faux stained glass. I don't know if it is the same as you were talking about, but it can be done on any non food surface (best done if it can be laid flat until the paint dries). I did some inserts that I hung on chains inside the front room window and the sun would reflect the colours all over the room, it was wonderful....

2.)
Heating sources. I have lived in placed heated by an oil heater, a pot belly stove,(my mother always kept a pan of water on the heaters to humidify the air) a coal furnace, an oil furnace, electric baseboards, and for the last 20 or so years, hot water base boards as that is what most apartments are heated with.... Oh yes, we also had an old fashioned wood stove that was used to heat the entire place and we had to cook / bake on/in it..... Mom also kept a large boiler of water on the back of that so we had hot water to wash dishes as we only had a hose for cold water (no other indoor plumbing....)

I have since developed asthma and cannot handle wood smoke any more, so pot belly stoves are totally out,. There are pros and cons to almost all of them, but the hot water heat is included in my rent so I won't complain.....

When I lived in the NW before, we had a pellet stove with a battery power back up. I didn't have the allergy problems that I have with wood and the smoke from woodstoves, etc. I use to like baseboard heat, because you can just turn it on in the rooms you were in. Right now, I don't know what I'll like. Wait, I guess until I see a winter bill. They have forced air here, a heat pump, and a propane stove insert.

"Google" "faux stained glass kits and you can find pricing. The peacock kit I posted is running for $24.00. I see where you can get the liquid leading $13.99 for a 5 pkg of different colors for 2 ounce bottles. Or a 4 oz bottle for $3.26. I think the color stuff was about the same price as the leading when I bought it many yrs ago. And it didn't take a lot of the stuff usually to do a design, so the bottles lasted me a long time. The glass depends on size and if it is beveled or not. I Michel's is one of the places I use to get my supplies from.

Thanks for telling me about it. it does sound nicer than the plastic kits, kids do. In these ones the black outline is already on the shape and there is liquid runny paint. I assume these look a lot better, but I couldn't access your link for some reason.

These seem as if they would make a lovely Christmas gift.

Is it expensive?

I have seen some sort of this kind of art in Michel's.

How does one protect themselves from the lead, gloves?

I saw some sort of project were one is drawing some sort of design that they peel off a plastic sheet.

We have portable heaters that I like as you only have to heat the room you want, not the whole house. And you can adjust the heat too, so like I can have the one where I sleep set to low as I run hot any ways and the boy can have his set to med or high as he runs cooler than me. We also have a gas wall heater out in the living room that we use to use, but in order to get the chill off of the back bedrooms with it, then the living room would be baking. With the portable units it is easier to control the temp in each area. And the bf said it is a lot cheaper on the house bills too.
Growing up I had been in places with wood stoves on and off, and some times the smoke from them bothered my asthma, but other times I was okay with it.

We are having foggy or drizzly mornings and nights here right now. But our day time is back and forth from really warm to cooler and windy.

Good Morning team!

Well I think our rainy season has arrived. We are in the 50's now and getting colder. Time to start the wood stove!

If you had your choice, How would you heat your home??
Wood stove, pellet stove, gas stove, electric heat, gas heat, etc....

Me, I heat with a wood stove and I love the dry air. I have very tall ceilings and I need all the help I can get.

Most craft stores and even stores like Wal-mart that has a craft area probably sell the "Fake"/"Faux" Stained Glass crafts supplies or kits for it. You get bottles of liquid lead and liquid paint. The liquid lead usually comes in colors like black, silver, gold, bronze or copper. The liquid paints come in all kinds of colors, some more transparent than others. You can buy glass that is already cut and sanded on the edges so the edges are rounded and not so sharp, or even beveled edges. You can even get some with a whole cut into the top part or a hook put on the top part to make it easier to hang up some place when done. You can get a kit, or buy design books to get your design to use. Then lay the glass on top of the design and take the liquid lead and outline your design making the little areas where the different color paints will go. The liquid lead will sit up a little on the glass making a raised design that will help keep the liquid colors from running together. You make your design with the liquid lead first and let it dry and then fill in the other areas with your color liquid paints. It's a lot of fun and the designs look really neat. Plus you save you fingers of all the cuts that they get doing the real stuff. I had a friend that did the real stuff and she was always getting cuts all over her fingers. But she also did this type too and showed how to do this.

My favorite hobbies are arts and crafts.

I've tried a bunch of them. I used to do crewel and cross-stich and needlepoint.

Now my favorite is card making and paper arts.

The lady who mentioned fake stain glass, do describe what that is...

I also like to make a collection of small items to put in letters. I know letters are almost extinct. Mostly this is for encouragement, sick ones, and those who are lost someone, and when I see someone needs a boost.

Hobbies, I don't do a lot of hobby stuff right now because of money. I took a flower arranging class in high school so I know how to do the stuff a florist would do. I like embroidery and hand sewing. I have done some fake stain glass projects before and that was fun. Did a little jewelry making long ago. Doing family tree stuff, and other stuff.

But right now, my time is mostly doing house work, walking our dogs and playing with them. Walking on my own, playing on our Wii. Chatting Online on several different websites.

1.)
Favourite store --- I don't have a favourite. My BIL has to go into his office a couple of times a week and goes right by the Canada Safeway Sore, so he will drop me off, and then pick me up when he has finished at the office. It can be pricey, so I have to watch what I buy there and watch for sales. Sometimes one of the other grocery stores will have a great sale, and if he can do it, he will take me there so I can get what I need at a cheaper price.....

As for other stores (department, clothing, etc) , I don't really like shopping anymore, so I only go when there is something I really need and it is on sale.... We watch the flyers for those deals....

2.)
I grew up in a small isolated town on the Pacific Coast and we loved it. Sadly, I have a lot of medical problems now so stick close to the city with all the hospitals, diagnostic tools, etc, but if I could, I would love to go back to a small town next to the ocean.

Good Morning Team!

I as well, love the country I don't have horses but hoping next year to have beef cattle on the property. And of course my girls who are giving me 10 eggs a day now! Gotta love it!

What hobby do you have? I have several including quilting, renovation of this home, love to bake and cook, jewelry making, floral arrangements to name a few! :-)

I would love to live in the country, with plenty of acreage to have a garden and chickens, horses, etc. I would have a pool to satisfy my love of water!!!

I would loved to get back to the mountains and have some farm land to raise animals and grow a garden too. .I live in Florida and just about 10 minutes from the beach and with the hurricanes they can keep them

Right on the water. Either ocean or lake, in a semi warm area. NOT HOT.

For me it isn't just the money but health care since I am asthmatic. So since I am asthmatic I try to stay close to drs ofc and hospital. But if I didn't have to do that, then I would love to be out in the country with lots of land for gardening and animals.

You are lucky to have a Trader Joes coming to your area. I haven't been for a long time. Hopefully for you they still have good stuff! :-)

I am also very lucky to live where there are so many stores to choose from. I like to shop at the Farmer's Market and Wegman's grocery store for all organics.
