I wanted an accurate count too. Know it's off as I will add my other pedometer I bought from SP and the count is way off.

Water is very important for us. We may, and I do, require more than the 8 glasses a day. The link goes to a water calculator I use to see what I need for my current weight. Mt requirement has dropped 9 ounces due to weight loss. Yipee!

I find the calorie counts on FB accurate as the display factors in my RMR and FB activity based on the step count and the exercise I manually add. It comes out to the same calorie range as spark and My Net Diary, which is where I track food, recommend.

I also find the step count very accurate as I keep compulsively checking it. I've had my Zip since October and it is much better than any pedometer I've had.

That said, every time they do anything to the phone app it gets messed up as to synching. After the past two updates (in two days) it hasn't been synching the calorie numbers to the phone, although it seems to be updating correctly on the web dashboard.

When I contact CS they just say reinstall the app, which I have done countless times lol.

But I still love the motivating factor of the FB and have seen no tracker that was as good.

JAMBABY0: I use it specifically to count footsteps - and I bought it because I wanted something that was accurate.

Not everyone uses it for the same purpose - however, I have found many that have found it quite motivating and useful.

I'm having issues too. Even replaced the battery and it still loses up to 2,000 steps a day emoticon

Are you kidding? Why would anyone pay to buy it if it doesn't work? What is the point to having it if its not used for calories, I mean I had a step counter that I use to use and it cost 5 bucks!!! Not 80.00

As far as the calorie burning part of the FitBit - I don't believe it and I don't use it. Since people have been advocating 10,000 steps - I am just trying to reach that goal as well as doing cardio activities during the day. Even SparkPeople doesn't use the FitBit's calorie burning numbers - they use their own.

One day I woke up - my FitBit had 0 steps and it already said I had burned around 400 or so calories.

So, as long as you don't depend on that part of the FitBit - you should be fine.

By the way - I was able to not show calories burned on my FitBit - it is an option inside the software.

Okay - they finally replied and asked me to count to 100 and see how accurate the Zip is. It wildly varies. Sometimes it is over by a few - other times it is under by a few (and these are okay) but other times for 100 steps it only counts 16 and one time it even did not count any steps for 100 steps.

So - I know that we have people who walk, run, jog - etc. using the FitBit. Are there any people out there that actually try to make purposeful movements to be more active? The count wildly varies, by the way - whether I do cardio or step in place. However - any "pacers" out there - that step from side to side - make jogging in place movements while working - anything like that?

Just wondering if it isn't cut out for what I am doing. If not - any suggestions on what I should use?

I replied to their original email 2 days ago - not sure if I was expected to write it up again on their website. Heard nothing. So, today I put it on their website - guess another 2 days?

Sumay, be persistent. I think they suggest resetting as a first response because it does fix some issues. Your fitbit might be faulty and most likely after that is established they will replace it. So keep after them. I never had this issue or any that required replacing a fitbit but I did notice a new bug several months ago where it wasn't replacing fitbit calories with those for logged exercise and was crediting me with both (and very high calorie burns). It took a few emails before they realized what I observed was correct and something had went wrong with how they were calculating. They did fix the issue. This was effecting other users too so it wasn't just me--but they were pretty quick to suggest resetting the fitbit, reinstalling the software and some other things before considering that there was actually a change in the way it was functioning and I wasn't doing anything different from when it was working correctly. If you are persistent I think they will somehow fix it for you. They just seem to go through the standard things that are easy to try first. I think there intention is to give good service.

So far it hasn't been impressive. Essentially - after 2 days of waiting - they respond with "reset the FitBit." Sorry buddy - but I have already done that 3 times and it did nothing to fix the problem. I am usually impatient anyway - but as I am "waiting" - my energy level is waning because I know it isn't going to be counted anyway.

Have pretty much decided to give up and just buy a pedometer instead. Since that is what I mostly use it for - that should work for me.

I don't hate the FitBit - and I'm glad I had mine. It has truly motivated me and that's why I'm not going to give up on moving - I'm just going to find another way to measure it. I don't necessarily want to say it is a bad product at all - wish their customer service was a bit more resourceful - I just think I got a dud.

I'd be interesting in finding out what FitBit customer service tells you. They seem to be pretty good most of the time, so hopefully there's a solution for you.

You ought to take this up with Fitbit. They seem like a company that is very responsive to its customers.

well to answer your question, I tried out the Zip and it does not seem as accurate/sensitive as the One or Ultra. That's why it can't track sleep, it doesn't pick those movements. It gave me a lot more Very active, and less lightly and fairly. My guess is that it can't distinguish well, so throws more into the VAM range.
But it should be showing steps! Hope you hear from customer service soon! They won't replace it with a One, since a One is more expensive, but maybe they'd upgrade you for the 40$ difference.

every piece has its own quirks. a one does a bit more than the zip does , like measuring sleep, but i am on my second one which had it's own issues. so it is hard to say

if there is something wrong and customer service can't get it to work, they will replace it for you. if they do, you could ask if they would change it to a one for you

Yes - already did that - it didn't change anything at all. In fact, dh did it a couple of times. Still the same. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Does anyone know if the FitBit One is better than the Zip in terms of accuracy?

I have the Zip, too---had an issue a few weeks back with it not syncing at all---try removing the back, taking the battery out, then putting it back in---at least that is something you can do while waiting to hear from customer service.

I hope not - I've only had it for 2 weeks. It is brand spankin' new. Also, on both Spark and FitBit.com - it shows the battery as full.

In case I forgot to mention it earlier - I wear it clipped onto my pants (not in my bra).

Do you need the change the battery. That might be a good place to start

Let me just start off by saying that I love my FitBit - seriously - I am addicted and I'm not ashamed to say it. Aside from that though - it is not tracking properly lately and I wondered if anyone else has had problems?

I have a FitBit Zip. I have worn it since I have gotten it - have not dropped it - have not washed it - there have been no incidents of mishandling at all. I've said before that I homeschool 3 kiddos and have an active toddler - so I am quite busy. I have an adjustable desk in our schoolroom so that I can stand while teaching instead of sitting all day. Essentially, I make step aerobics type movements while standing without actually using a raised step. I also make movements while washing dishes and other housework. Aside from that - I hate using the treadmill and use it sparingly but love to do step aerobics for cardio.

When I first bought the Zip - it calculated all my steps (even the side to side movements). Recently, though, it has stopped counting anything as a step - even vigorous movements side to side unless I go forward or backward. This is hard because I can't just go off walking.

It doesn't even count marching type movements - just forward or backwards. And - at some times it even fails to calculate any steps when I walk. I have tested it - and even wore it on my pants and had dh watch it while I marched in place. After quite a long while - it still never calculated ANY steps.

Any ideas? I've already sent in a msg to customer service - but haven't heard anything yet and I'm wondering should I return it and get a FitBit One instead? Is it more accurate? The Zip essentially does all that I need it to do - so I don't necessarily need another type - but wondered what was going one.
