I asked the customer service dept at FB about it and they say it is very normal for them to do it. The inclines on the roads especially when driving for long periods of times cause the fb;s to pick up the inclines (giving stair counts) as well as the steps from the vibration on the road

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Buckets of wasted time that could be an exquisite lace shawl. ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much

I still have the first Fit bit pedometer. Mine NEVER registers floors while I drive. That is very odd! It should NOT be registering ANYTHING when you drive!

one other person posted about stairs while driving and I noticed that last week when we took an 8 hour drive from SC to MD, my Fitbit registered 11 flights of stairs on each segment of the drive. I also picked up steps but I never can sit still in the seat and dance to the music and move my legs around a lot to keep from getting cramped

I don't get stairs driving.. depends on your ride I guess. I certainly would notice as I would get a lot of floors driving! However, I know floors can be off... for example in bad weather. I run on my treadmill and sometimes the activity log will show 4 floors!

If you walk on inclines outside over 10 feet in the incline, like in parking lots of up certain hills, your FB will take it as a flight of steps. Also if you are drving in your car for long periods, it will pick up those hills your car is on as flights of stairs

I just got my fitbit for my birthday yesterday. I drove to Church today, and when I came back, it said I had climbed 10 flights of stairs. Do I need to turn it off when driving?
