@ VIVIANB7:

1) Your FB provides you with the number of calories your body is burning up to the point in the day. A better gauge as to how many calories you are burning while doing cardio work is to create a a RECORDING. First, this is only possible on the One and not on the Zip. If you own the One then hold down the button on your device until the stopwatch starts, do your cardio work, when done hold the same button down until the stopwatch stops. Once your FB syncs with the FB site click on the ACTIVITIES tab and there you will see a snapshot of your completed cardio session. You can edit the time and add notes by clicking on the EDIT icon located on the top right hand corner of the graph.
2) If you make a change to a tracked food on the SP site that change will not transfer to the FB site. If you are talking about days then you can "force" a sync by clicking on the SEND FOOD TO FITBIT button at the bottom of the Food Tracker page. Be careful because it will send ALL of your foods for the day. A better solution would be to manually enter the missing food directly to the FB site.
3) Your Sleep Efficiency is based on how much movement took place during your sleep period. If you tend to move a lot then your sleep efficiency will be lower.
4) FB will sycn only FAIRLY ACTIVE and VERY ACTIVE minutes with SP. While you may not consider these minutes to be "exercise" they are significant body movement and thus show up on your SP Fitness Tracker page as Fitness Activity. You may consider entering your 'actual" exercise in the NOTES section of this page.
5) Finally your FB will not do a credible job when you are performing non-stepping movements. You may consider entering these activities separately on your SP Fitness Page. FYI: Entries made on your FB page will NOT transfer to your SP page.

BTW, regarding the "warning" from SP you may want to review your FITNESS SET UP and make the necessary adjustments to match what FB is transferring to SP OR you can just ignore the warning!

Lastly, welcome to our team!

Oh, forgot to ask. Will the FB track calories on a stationary rowing machine? Because I'm not "stepping" how can I get it to track those calories? Thanks.

Hi I'm new to FB. Got it yesterday & put it on in the afternoon before a one hour walk which was 6.59km which is just over 4 miles. Problems so far:
1. It synced with SP & registered 662 calories for a one hour walk!!! I got a warning from SP saying that I was eating too little & burning too much.
2. It didn't transfer all my tracked foods from SP to FB
3. It told me my sleep efficiency was 49% even though I was in bed for 9 hours.
4. Is there any way just to track the exercise calories on the device, or does it only give you the total calories for the day?
looking forward to any hints. Thanks.

I got my fitbit zip a couple weeks ago. I've still not made 10,000 steps in one day but am working up to it. Going to Walmart this afternoon so am curious as to how many steps I take walking around looking for things. They move things around all the time like Costco does. The only thing I am not too keen about it that it doesn't come with a charger as far as I know. It says the batteries only last about four months and there is no way to turn it off.

Welcome to the group, and Spark people.

Watch out for that fitbit. If you are any sort of data geek, you will love it.

@ HOLLY255255:

Your Ultra will register a step for every 10' increase in elevation but that 10' has to be continuous. So if you go up five stairs and then go up another five stairs minutes later you will not receive credit for a floor. Also, your Ultra will not credit you with floors when using the Stair Climber machine. The FB has to sense a change in altitude in order to credit you with the floor. Sometimes you do get credit for floors for no apparent reason. I recently received credit for 25 floors for a path I take daily and usually receive none. Thankfully these quirky floor credit are far and few in between.

HOLLY255255; emoticon to the team. The fitbit registers a stair for every ten feet up in elevation. When I was visiting my parents south of Dallas (which I thought was pretty flat), I would go out and walk the neighborhood and up and down the main road and my fitbit would register 3 stairs one day and 10 stairs the next day. If that main road had an elevation it was a very gradual one. I have also read on some of the postings that people are attaching the fitbit to their socks or shoes when then are on an elliptical, stair climber, etc. Hope that helps

New to Fitbit and have a silly question. Is there anyway to get stairs/flight without stairs? I live on the plains of Texas come across zero stairs. I was walking on my step last night and it doesn't register as stairs. My gym does not have a stair stepper. Seems silly that I want to move this activity on my fitbit but I do!! LOL

Holly/Texas. Time Zone: CST; Don't do anything today you can't maintain for the rest of your life; Studies show a mere 11 minutes of weight training 3 times a week is enough to reduce your body fat and raise your metabolism.

JOANNELYNN11; emoticon to the team. Some of us have the One and the Ultra which has the sleep mode, and we use it to track our sleep to see how often we are awake during the night. Some nights I am in bed 7-8 hours but am awake 10+ time during that time.
Hope that helps you understand the difference.

I'm getting my fitbit zip tomorrow! Can't wait to put it to work! I am so curious as to how many steps I take in a day and how many calories I burn. I see some of you keep it on all the time; what's the purpose to keeping it on while sleeping? I don't know a lot about them, need to do more research.

I have had mine for over a year now and feel naked without it.

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Buckets of wasted time that could be an exquisite lace shawl. ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much

One of my biggest hopes is that it does become an addiction for me, and in turn, keep me from overeating or binging. I need all the help I can get in that department. :)

Thank you! :-) I'm pretty darn excited about it! :-) I'm anxious to see how many steps I take while I'm at work (I'm on my feet for 8 1/2 hours a day) combined with my daily exercise!

I ordered my FitBit, and cannot wait until it arrives. It will be another 5 days before it gets here! I did a whole lot of research on them and other devices like them, and never found a bad review about the FitBit. I had already made up my mind, when I learned that FitBit now syncs to SparkPeople!! This is exciting news!! Cannot wait to get mine in!
