@Changethegards I know what you mean by the funny looks. But I keep going anyway.

All: Yes I enjoy coming back to the SparkTeam for inspiring ways to get those steps in. I especially like how the FitBit One is so "low" maintenance. It is great!

When I watch a movie I jump on my trampoline and get steps in that way, plus it puts your calorie burn higher doing jumping jacks, leg lifts ect on the trampoline .

I can easily jump on it for a whole 1.5 --2 hour movie!!!

Love all the ideas folks are adding here!
And PinkHairedMom, I hope you're back up and taking tons of steps in no time!

I created a mental "track" in my office, and every time I get up for a restroom break or to fill my water, I also decide how many laps I'm going to do, and I just do them. My track is a square around the elevator bay. Sure, I get funny looks and a lot of "are you going to do any work today?", but I tell people (truthfully) that I think better when my blood is flowing.

And hey, I'm a size down from the start of the year, so all the non-believers can take a hike!

Well up until I screwed up a ligament in my foot, I was walking 3 miles on the treadmill on my non-gym days. Now, I'm in a surgical boot and barely getting 3000 steps a day!

LOL MATALYNN you're cracking me up!

Thanks so much for all of the wonderful ideas, keep them coming! I normally park as far away as possible when I get to work, but today I had to park close because there weren't any other spots. To make up for it, I went the long way and walked in a big loop through the parking lot. My coworkers probably think I'm nuts :)

How about this...

I was cooking dinner last night and standing at the stove, so I was like oh ill just start doing side steps here while I was cooking cause i couldn't leave the stove ( was browning ground turkey ) well my BF walked in to the kitchen and was like what r you doing and I was like "I'm adding more steps to my fitbit" he just started laughing but I said I bet you would be doing the same thing if you had your fitbit!!! My bf want to get one also.

I go to work a little early and walk around each floor using the stairs to go from one floor to another.

STEPH057, I also have a desk job, I walk during my 2-15 minute breaks and my 30 minute lunch break (eat lunch at my desk). I then have 5 minutes scheduled on my calendar (reminder pop ups) to walk in place at 9, 11, 2 and 4. I schedule my breaks at 10, 3 and my lunch walk at 1230pm. So this way I am walking almost every hour while at work. I am an empty nester, so when I get home in the evening, I never sit down. I go for a walk (now that the time has changed) before or after dinner, and walk in place or laps around the house after dark while I am listening/watching to the TV.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I just got my fitbit yesterday but this morning the first thing I did was zoom up and down are stairs just to see the flight steps go up but now I have done it a few times and I'll probably try to do that every hour.

I am not sure if by doing the stairs if that increases the steps too or not. Just got mine yesterday so still learning about it .

emoticon

Oh and I have done that too just zooming though the house for no reason just to add steps on it that way too.

Sometimes I walk in place while watching TV in the evening. Even just doing it during commercials, it can add a lot of steps.

I park far away from everything! Also, if I have to sit at the computer, I use the stability ball part of the time and bounce instead of sitting still. Works the core!

Can you walk on your lunch break? do you get "coffee" Breaks? a great time to get extra steps. Also, going to another person's desk to relay a message instead of emailing. It is hard when confined to a desk---but if you are looking at a computer screen all day, it would do your eyes and your health good to get up every hour and take a short 5 minute walk somewhere and come back.

When shopping, attending a meeting going to church or the library, I park as far away from my destination as possible to get the extra steps going to and from the building.

When grocery shopping, I wander from one end of the store to the other on purpose. I know the store's layout so could be much more efficient, but want the extra steps.

Doing chores at home, I get as much mileage out of each chore as possible so that the steps continue to add up.

I am retired. I sit at my sewing machine a great part of each day, so have to find ways to accumulated steps.

When putting away laundry- I will take it upstairs 1 or 2 pieces at a time. Figure if I took it all up at once in a basket I would only get about 40-50 steps. But p robably get 400-500 doing it a couple pieces at a time.

What are your "tricks" for getting in extra steps throughout the day? On my non-gym days, I usually only get about 5,000 steps. I'm looking for ways to increase this. I work for an Internet company and I'm at my desk most of the day. If I have to reset a server, I walk around the data center while I'm waiting. When I have to use the restroom, I walk to the one on the opposite side of the office building. I'm looking for more ideas like these.

What do you do?
